Everything Slowed Down....Dump All Caches?

After updating my system last night, my MacBook was very slow on reboot and both Safari and Firefox are very slow as well. Another member mentioned dumping the caches in the home folder and HD folder. If this is recommended, would someone please provide me with exact instructions on which caches and how to dump each. I do not want to lose anything important. Thanks!

I'd select +Safari > Empty Cache+ from the Safari menubar.
And make sure you have at least 15% of your boot volume free.
If that doesn't help, download the (free) OnyX app, from: http://www.titanium.free.fr/index_us.html
Select the Cleaning icon in the toolbar, then select the various tabs and caches you want to delete.
(I omit +Form Values+ and cookies from the Internet tab, and most of the logs items, but your desires may be different.)
You also might want to rebuild the Launch Services database, and some or all of the other items in the +Maintenance > Rebuild+ tab.

I want to revert back to OS 10.6.!!!

  • After ripping about 75 cds everything slowed down. Help- is it cache issue?

Please help me out. I am new to this. I ripped about 100 cds into itunes and everything slowed where I couldnt rip and listen at the same time, or use other programs for that matter. Definitely a RAM issue or so it seems. I cleared my temp internet files to see if it would help, but no. I had also downloaded some updates by coincidence around the same time so i restored my puter back to yesterday thinking that was those updates. Everything went back to normal and started ripping quickly 10x, 11x while playing tunes and me surfing. Now it slowed again about 75 cds later. No reason why. i didnt do anything but rip the tunes.
Is there some play to clear the RAM or cache or something? What is stealing away my resources. Rebooting does not help.
    I hope you can!!!
    Thanks a lot !!

NOT true. Going back does not reverse all the work you have done. It simply restores settings and files to where they were. All the cds I burned remained as did every other file i created or edited.
But going back is not recommended and certainly shouldnt be done regularily.

  • Macbook Pro slowed down drastically all of a sudden, Beachball constantly there

So, this morning I left my house playing a game of League of Legends and as soon as i got to work and tried to use my mac it seemed to have slowed down by 90%. Beachball there constantly as soon as I click finder, nothing loads for about 15seconds, beach ball continues swirling. Applications load up then if I hoover over one, beach ball appears again for 10 seconds. I have done a SMC Reset and PRAM reset and nothing has worked, I have killed the com.apple.finder.plist and it didn't help. Even when i go to top left Apple sign and click it, beach ball appears and I have to wait about 15seconds before the drop down bar appears.
Ive had Maverick for a while and nothing happened, im on a 2.5GhZ i5 4GB Ram Macbook pro 13"
It had first started when I used mail and i couldn't write because the text in a new email would only appear about 5 seconds after i typed it.
Now for example if I try using Safari it gives the beach ball every time we change a website.
I can't use any other apps, for example league of legends will simply not load.

If you don't already have a current backup of all data on the startup drive, back up immediately. Then see below.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Internet running slowly, videos not playing well, everything slowing down. Wifi signal is strong, not sure what the problem is. Help please.

I have had my mac since December of this year. Suddenly it will not play video with stopping every few seconds to load, and my internet is running slower even though the connection is fine and everythiny else in the house on wifi is working well. Whats the issue?

Run this web based browser scan, it will tell you in red and provide a link to the download page.

Also another great free program is OnyX, just run everything, cleans your machine out on a system level.
You can cancel the reboot to run another cleaning section, just make sure you reboot at the end before using the computer.

Also use the Firefox web browser, it's insanely faster, the fasest of all browsers. The choice of Add-ons is numerous, personalization is just awesome. Everything can be changed, moved around etc. Persona's, themes etc. Just insane.
Not only that, Firefox is for Windows, OS X and Linux, the same browser on all.

  • Upgrade to IOS 6 has caused everything to slow down, noticeably..ANYONE ELSE SEEING THIS PARTICULARLY ON MY MAC

Is anyone else seeing this noticeable slow down?
Ever since the IOS 6 , at least since then, everything slows down and nothing is wrong, just nothing is any where near as fast as it used to be... Other friends who have macs also say the same....
Is there a fix coming or something to restore thiings back to normal.

    Allan,
Just about everything...The internet is slow and I have a very fast FIOS connection 25 up and down....
You click on something, i.e. a bookmark and it takes a while for it to do anything...Dock items seem to react slower to open, it is like it thinking about it before anything happens....
Not sure how to describe it, but several friends have said the exact same thing...even on our Ipads...
    Do you see nothing slower?

  • Editing: slows down drastically

Recently I am experiencing a problem that I did not have before. In Develop after I have made tens (or maybe hundreds) small brush corrections all of a sudden everything slows down dramatically. Feels like an overload, though I have a powerful desktop with a lot of free memory. LR5, Windows 8.

This is a known problem in Lightroom. Lots of brushing causes Lightroom to slow down. You would be better off doing the brushing in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

  • PB slow down on windows 7 and above?

So i have a PB classic application that is on 12.5 running on windows 7.  What looks like is happening is we have seen a general across the board slow down in all processes vs when it was running on XP.
It looks like the application is doing a lot of I/O to a few different registry settings:
    located in
    HKCU\control panel\international\
I don't have any place in the code that is doing this. So i am guessing that PB is doing it?
It looks like for some reason the I/O is getting interrupted every few seconds in windows 7 vs what it was doing in XP we think that is creating a slow down.
Does anyone know why this registry setting is being read? Or how to stop it?
Maybe if anyone knows why windows 7 and windows XP run the same PB process with the same data at two different speeds?

If your Windows 7 is x64 edition you have to consider that your application it's 10-15% slower than in 32bit environment. This overhead it's due to the operative system that emulate 32 bit application in 64bit environment.
    I've find that compile in W2003 32 bit it's faster than W7 64bit with a better hardware...

  • Sudden slow down after an auto-shutdown - kernel_task running hot.

    Hi,
I was playing Braid on supremely low battery, and my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011) running 10.7.2, automatically turned off. Plugged it into the charger and went to bed. Booted it up next morning and it is so incredibally slow. No warning, no gradual slow down, just all of a sudden. No peripherals attached at all.
Checked my Activity Monitor, kernal_task is running at 330mbs, from what I've seen that is pretty bad. That's the only thing I can see that is out of the ordinary.
Anyone want to take a stab at the cause of this sudden slow down? It's making using my laptop very very tedious.

Note: In Safe Mode kernal_task is running at 220mbs. Is that a clue? I don't know.

  • Major slow down after installing mountain lion

....just my bought my new Mac last Christmas ,coming from Windows was a major change, everything was fast,
then a few days ago I upgraded from OS Lion to Mountain Lion and now everything slow down a lot.
Everything a try to open from internet browsers to apps,it takes from 30 seconds up to 1 minute and a half.
Is there anything I can do to return to OS Lion and have the same speed as before?

Did you run a Time Machine back up before you updated?

  • DW CS 4 slow down

I essentially got my GL CS2 site into DW (I think they made
the wrong choice if GUI is the main consideration). So, I was
trying to set up a page for the first time, and drop in a few
pictures. Well, now, whenever I open DW all I get is a spinning
ball between every move. It's incredible. Click on a graphic... 10
second beach ball. Adjust a handle... 10 second beach ball. I can't
do anything. Application is worthless. Got any ideas?
    Thanks.

I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I knew it would
head in this direction. Regardless of what I am running or what
apps are opened, this did not change after I added the graphic, but
the performance did. That said, a few things like Mail, Safari,
iChat where opened, and of course, one would figure to edit
graphics with PS, at the same time DW is opened. The machine is a
    MacBookPro 2.4.
Note: Even with DW open, and giving me problems, as long as I
am not in DW, nothing else slows down at all. Thanks.

  • Stale Near Cache data when all Cache Server fails and are restarted

    Hi,
We are currently making use of Coherence 3.6.1. We are seeing an issue. The following is the scenario:
    - caching servers and proxy server are all restarted.
    - one of the cache say "TestCache" is bulk loaded with some data (e.g. key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3) on the caching servers.
    - near cache client connects onto the server cluster via the Extend Proxy Server.
    - near cache client is primed with all data from the cache server "TestCache". Hence, near cache client now has all key/values locally (i.e. key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3).
    - all caching servers in the cluster is down, but the extend proxy server is ok.
    - all cache server in the cluster comes back up.
    - we reload all cache data into "TestCache" on the cache server, but this time it only has key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value.
    - So the caching server's state for "TestCache" is that it should only have key1/value1, key2/value, but the near cache client still thinks it's got key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3. So in effect, it still knows about key3/value3 which no longer exists.
Is there anyway for the near cache client to invalidate the key3/value3 automatically? This scenario happens because the extend proxy server is actually not down, but all caching servers are, but the near cache client for some reason doesn't know about this and does not invalidate the cache client near cache data.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Wilson.

    Hi,
I do have the invalidation strategy as "ALL". Remember this cache client is connected via the Extend proxy server where it's connectivity is still ok, just the caching server holding the storage data in the cluster are all down.
Please let me know why else we can try.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Wilson.

  • Dock and slow down

I'm experiencing a slow down throghout all my system; the system has an especially slow response when typing with the keyboard or when moving windows. The curious thing is this: if I have a bouncing icon in my dock, the slow down is gone and my system act as normal. I checked my Activity Monitor and there is no application which is consuming my resources (more than normal that is). I also tried killing the Dock, but once restarted it keeps the same behaviour (slow system with no bouncing icon, smooth system with a bouncing icon in the dock). Does anybody have any idea what is happening? Does anybody have any idea how I could try to work this out? Thanks a lot.

    Bruce Etnyre wrote:
Does this happen with any bouncing icon or only one? If only one, what application is it?
Any bouncing icon. I tried with both the Apple System Update and MySQL Administrator.
What happens if you quit the application related to the bouncing icon?
It goes back to the same behaviour, being slow and bumpy when writing text or moving windows.

  • IPhoto is severely slowing down my computer.

iPhoto is severely slowing down my computer.  I have 46,578 photos taking up 218.9 GB on an extra 1TB hard drive.   When I have iPhoto open, everything slows down.  I get the little spinning pinwheel constantly in every program.  When iPhoto is closed, things run perfectly.
What is the best way to resolve this issue?  Should I split my iPhot library into two separarte libraries?  If so, how do I do that?   Or should I use Aperature to manage my photos?  Any other solutions?

You might want to ask this question in the iPhoto discussion here.

  • SONY DVD RW DW-D150A slows down????

I have been movie a library of drum samples onto my computer, and the first DVD of 7.81 gb of samples transfered in about 11 minutes. Every other DVD transfers in about 45 minutes. Why would it slow down? All of the DVDs are equal size and its really bothering me.

you could flash the firmware of that sad optical Sony to that of NEC which it is anyway and probably have better performance. The situation you describe is not abnormal you could just do a re-start and avoid it.
