Everything Taking Forever After Mavericks Disaster
VERY long story short, I tried to update to Mavericks on my iMac -> bad unrepairable disk -> reinstalled new ML OS on an erased drive->Used Migration Assistant to move files from my 3TB Time Capsule (previous generation) backup to my iMac. Everything that was supposed to be there as of October 27th (my last TC backup) was there. Whew.
I backup three devices to TC with my iMac having about 900GB to back up but the TC disk only had 25.6GB of 3TB free. TC connected directly by Ethernet cable to iMac.
Didn't know what to do since I changed the name of the iMac, but got lots of errors (e.g. can't find backup, etc.) but eventually I changed it back to original name and clicked Start Backup (it said Last Backup: None). After churning around for hours and hours, it showed Last Backup: August 12, 2012 and said there was about 11 GB to back up. After many more hours it finally backed up about 1GB of that 11GB.
Next time I looked, it was not backing up anymore, but "Cleaning up old backups...". This went on about 12 hours, and I clicked the X stop button and put the iMac to sleep.
This morning, the oldest backup is January 4, 2013, clicked Backup Now -> "Preparing for backup" -> after an hour, back to "Cleaning up old backups.."
I'm getting pretty fed up after spending a couple of days watching it churn preparing and cleaning, and I haven't got a new backup yet. At this point I don't care about old versions of my files but since the effort was made I would tend to want to keep the versions - just the last month's versions would be OK.
Should I persist letting TC churn for days and trust it to do the right thing, or should I somehow get rid of the iMac backup and just start from scratch (for the iMac, I don't want to start from scratch from the other devices - which tooks weeks to back up via Wireless)?
Would it be any faster to just start over, and how do I do that for just one device (my iMac)?
Thanks for any wisdom.
After 16 hours the "Cleaning up old backups..." stopped and it started backing up ~900gb, which is the entire amout of disk space used by the OS and my documents on my 2TB iMac drive. At least 400gb of that are photos and documents that were not touched except perhaps when they were migrated to the drive using Migration Assistant.
The Time Capsule 3TB hard drive is full (one of my other devices only has two weeks of backup in the last year now), so I'm thinking to start fresh.

Restarting taking forever after Security Update 2014-002
I just downloaded Security Update 2014-002 and my Mac Mini is taking forever to restart after the download and installation process finished. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks and my Mac is stuck on restart! What should I do?
Need help! Thanks.Tap the space bar on your keyboard once. The dispaly may be sleeping.
The first restart after the update here was longer than usual but I restarted one more time, it was back to normal boot time.
After the restart, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu.
It should say: Verio 1.0 Installed Apr 22, 2014 -
Time Machine backup taking forever after 10.6.2
After installing 10.6.2, Time Machine is taking ages to back up 3.2GB to my USB external drive. It is taking so long, in fact, that it has not done a single backup since I installed the latest update on November 9 — my computer did not stay up and on long enough for it to complete one back up. Today, it has been running non-stop for some ten hours and has so far done 104 MB of the 3.2GB. This is crazy. It did happen in the past that backups took a long time after a major update, but never this long.
Everything worked fine before the 10.6.2 update. Is anyone else having similar problems?Ok, so here’s what happened since the last post.
I did what you recommended: had the external hard drive “repaired” (the disk utility said it was ok), and started the backup again, and again it was excruciatingly slow (it had backed up 40MB after five hours or so).
At that point I decided to erase the backup volume and start anew (after formatting etc). But again it got stuck after backing up 3.5GB out of 180GB. The Time Machine widget said “Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed” and “Waiting for index to be ready”. I again stopped the backup and did what your guide recommended. I excluded the backup volume from Spotlight and restarted the process. This time it worked. The backup was complete in reasonable time and has been working fine since.
The only problem is Spotlight. After the backup, I removed the Time Machine volume from the “do not index list”, but Spotlight does not seem to have responded. It either has not indexed the backup volume or is not admitting it: searching for anything inside Time Machine always returns “no results”.
Thanx a lot for your help. If you can give me a hint on how to get Spotlight working again, I’d be really, really grateful. -
Quick Look taking FOREVER after upgrading to Lion
Hey everyone. I have a mid-2008 24" iMac running with 4GB of memory. I recently upgraded to Lion and almost everything seems to be working great. One thing that is not working, however is Quick Look which is really not working at all. Back on Leopard or Snow Leopard, I would open up a folder full of jpgs, hit the Quick Look button and a preview of the picture would pop right up. I could then even arrow through the folder with each picture showing right up.
On Lion, this is not the case. I open a folder or picture files now, hit the Quick Look button and the picture comes up after about 30 seconds. Now, when I arrow around, the title for the Quick Look window changes but the new pictures never come up. Is anyone else having this problem? This is very frustrating and I am not sure why this feature the older OSs worked fine a but not now. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.Hi,
I got the same issue with my 2007 imac with 4gb ram, in the dowload & document folder on the dock it doesn't load the icons anymore, useto work before untill today after i upgraded my ram, dunno if that could be the issue, could it be?
Thanks.. -
After installing SP3 for BO XI R1 - Crystal Reports taking forever to run.
Hello,
We are running BO XI R1 SP3. Ever since installing SP3 a number of our scheduled Crystal Reports are taking forever to run. The Business Objects server resources are okay, CPU never really gets above 50% so I figure perhaps it's our SQL Server.
We run SQL 2005 and CPU on that hovers around 30%, we've got 4 2.6GHz CPUs with 16GB of RAM. Looking in SQL Server activity monitor the reason the reports are taking some time is that the wait types are generally CXPACKET.
For example a report used to process in a minute however after installing SP3 the report now takes several hours. Since we've 4 CPU's on our SQL Server activity monitor creates four sessions for the report to try and process it in parallel. However all of those four sessions have a wait type of CXPACKET. This I understand is related to parallelism and people have said to reduce that so nothing runs in parallel.
However I should not have to do that as things used to run just fine, there is no physical reason (i.e. RAM / CPU / HDD) that reports are locked waiting in SQL server. Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix please?
Kind regards,
Chris RutherfordXIR2 has two different redistributable MSI packages. One is compatable with 1.1 framwork applications and the other is compatable with 2.0 framework applications.
try downloading the SP3 MSIs from [here|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009656792008E/crxir2sp3_net_si.zip]
this will have both MSIs
- CrystalReports11_5_NET.msi (for 1.1fwk applications)
- CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi (for 2.0fwk applications)
rename the CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi to CrystalRedist115_x86.msi and replace the existing file in the Bootstrapper folder path
Uninstall the last install, rebuild and try your Click-Once install again. This time you should have the 11.5.3700.0 runtime.

Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro
Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro.
It started with Photoshop, then Safari, and now the Kinect sensor.
Mavericks is the worse thing that happened to me I have a thesis project to work on!
What can I do?
How can I remove Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?
ThanksHey StephSassine,
First, I would run through these steps:
Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk and then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk:
Increase disk space
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10677
If that doesn't work, you may need to repair your computer’s disk in Disk Utility:
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure you have the latest version of Mac OS X.
Software updates sometimes change a file’s permissions to improve security, so updating your software can solve some permissions problems.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select the disk you want to check.
Click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions.
via: Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5821
If that doesn't help resolve the issue, you can revert to a previous OS X version:
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14176

During startup my ipod is taking forever to connect to my wifi network. I have the corrct key and everything. Any help?
Your model MB528LL ipod is a 2G and can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. many apps now require 4.3 or later.
You said "will not use the WiFi connection that I have looged on to it continues to tell me that it can't use anything without a secure connection."
Just what are you doing when you get that message and what is the exact wording of the error message? -
My I Photo is taking forever to load my pictures. When they finally load, everything I do in I photo is super slow. Help!
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive? -
After Mavericks was introduced to my different Macs, my emails go blank - I loose my information - why? It's a disaster to my business!
I have a Brand new Mac Mini and a Power Book a few years old. It is the same problems in both machines.
The guys in the Mac shop could not answer or solve the problem with the Mail program.Do you have a backup? If Time Machine, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select that folder and go into Time Machine. Go to Mail/V2 and contol - click to get Restore options. Restore to your desktop, exit Time Machine and import into your Mail accounts.
You can also try rebuilding your mailboxes.
Rebuild mailbox
and reindexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

IPhone 4S taking forever to sync after iOS 7 update
My iPhone 4S is taking forever to completely sync the back up after updating to the new iOS 7 operating system. It's stuck in step 6 of 6 'waiting for items to copy'. Please help!
I was having this same problem with iPhone 5 with the latest version of iOS 7 and iTunes. It was just taking forever on the 'waiting for items to copy' step.
I disabled Genius on my iTunes setup, and immediately it resumed and completed that step. Seems like it was waiting for Genius results that weren't there, or weren't available.
I have a large iTunes library and still like to manually manage the music on my iPhone.
I guess I'll live without Genius until Apple can fix this.
iTunes Genius can cause manual sync of music to iPhone to hang for a long time. -
why is it taking forever to load!?
The files you are loading into the new computer are by wi-fi? If you have no other option
that may be OK but slow. A faster method would be Ethernet cable from internet router
or modem, instead of wireless. Most of the setup process can take some time.
What are these files? Where are they now?
Do you have a backup on-site, & not online?
Did you check to see if the operating system was updated as part of the setup before use?
The Software Update can locate later parts to the as-shipped system, that may be needed.
Other upgrades or new apps are through the Mac App Store, some through App Store, etc.
As part of the setup, you could use a migration assistant if you have a backup from the old
computer or have other files saved in an external hard drive to import.
Hopefully your process won't be drawn out too long...
Good luck & happy computing! -
