Everytime I click an email link it opens IE instead of Firefox. I have firefox set as default browser but it doesn't seem to matter.

I don't want to delete IE altogether but I really prefer firefox. Any suggestions?

Try the option to "Force Firefox to make itself the default" as shown in this article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser
Another possibility is your email application may be hard-coded to use IE.

• Everytime I click on a link it opens up a new tab, is there a way to stop this?

I do not want a tab to open everytime i click on something on a page. I end up having 20 tabs open at once. Is there a way I can turn this off so that my page will just switch to the new page.

You can override how links are opened via the browser.link.open_newwindow pref
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow
*1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
This pref is for the behavior of links opened via JavaScript

• When I click an email link it opens a new tab but it doesn't show the website, I have to click "ALLOW" first. How do I set it to show automatically??

This started happening after a recent update, I'm running FF 16. It's very annoying when I check 10 emails at a time. Can I get it back to the way it used to be, opening websites from email links automatically. I don't need the added security as I have WOT and KIS installed.

That fixed it, thank you!

• After my windows 7 computer did automatic updates, everytime I click on a link I get a not responding message and have to wait almost a minute for the program to continue.

Last night, my computer running Windows 7 premium home edition downloaded some automatic updates. I came in this morning to find that it had done a restart after adding these updates.
Now, anytime I click a link or do something which requires a redirect to another web page, my program gives me the not responding message and I have to wait 30-55 seconds for the program to continue.
I have Firefox 4 and it was running smoothly up until this morning, so I can only assume that whatever the automatic updates were, there is something in them that is causing this error. I do not know what updates were installed.

I don't have that problem in Firefox 29 when I read Gmail or AOL (aim.com) webmail. When I click on a webpage link in an email I'm reading (example: http://www.tworivertheater.org/ ) the link opens in a separate Firefox tab.
Are you saying this doesn't happen in outlook.com webmail and the link opens in the same Firefox tab as the email itself? I don't use outlook.com webmail myself. Hopefully someone will be along who does, or see Problems with email and how to find help.
It might help if you would confirm the type of link that is opening in the same tab as the email you are reading in your outlook webmail. If I misunderstood your problem, please explain it better.
It might also help if you could furhish more troubleshooting information. Please do the following:
*For Firefox 29.0 and above: Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

• Email hyperlinks don't open an Outlook new mail window (using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 is set as Default Program, but still doesn't work).

I've read the community discussions of this issue and did try the "default program" solution, but it hasn't worked. Also noted a discussion about proxy settings (?), but couldn't find instructions and didn't understand what was posted.

Hi,
You can try to change the hyperlink option in the Windows Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program; look for .url > Change Program > select or Browse and choose Firefox. If this fails then you may have to find the cause of "There are restrictions in place on this computer" message and remedy it. Two likely possibilities are someone put the restriction (IT admin??), or a virus or malicious program did it.

• 2 issues: 1. Firefox crashes everytime I try to open QuickBooks online 2. When I click an email link on a web site, it opens a blank FF browser instead of an email program. Please advise.

2 issues:
1. Firefox crashes every time I try to open QuickBooks online. I have submitted numerous crash reports.
2. When I click an email link on a web site, it opens a blank FF browser instead of an email program. I have set the default to Microsoft Outlook and also tried changing it to Gmail. Each time I click an email link on any web site, however, it just opens up a blank page instead of one of my email programs.

I'm not clear on where you are seeing that text. When I view Google's cached page from the page found in this search
https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Asitetrail.com%2Faskearth.com
It doesn't match yours exactly. There is an iframe with a Google map in it in the "Hosting Analysis" section, which in your pasted page seems to be the "Site Server" section.
Which Google site did you search?

• When I click on an email link it opens in the email window instead of opening a new window, how to get it to open a new window instead

It's Comcast email, most links are to articles from the Wall Street Journal. Lately an email from Charles Schwab broker with a link to a pdf file has been doing the same. When I click on the link, it opens within the email frame, which is about 1/3 filled up with the toolbar, mailboxes, headings etc. If it opens with 2 bars on the right side to move down, I can see the whole article, but often it opens with only one bar on the right side which will not let me get all the way to the end of the page.
It's been happening for several weeks. I got a new computer and it's still happening. Comcast sounds like they've never heard of it. Most recently happened today. I tried the same email link with IE and it opened a new window.

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.

I just downloaded Google Chrome and use both Google Chrome and Firefox as my browsers. However, whenever I click on an email link, it opens up Chrome and I want it to open Firefox. How do I fix this?

Go into FF Preferences & set it to be your default browser.  This way when you click on an email link in Chrome, FF will open.

• Mail- I click an email link and Mail opens, but nothing happens

I dont use mail.app How can I disable it completely so that it wont bother me? Whenever I click an email link, i dont want Mail to open. It would be nice if my gmail opened though.

Hi wayner,
Thank you for your question:
In the Firefox > Options menu under Applications, search for "mailto". From there select the action drop down and select the action.
If you click on the details of the action it should have https://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?To=%s
This macro should take you to a compose mail if you are logged in.
If the above information does not resolve your issue, please consider creating a new thread containing the specific details of your issue.

Our CRM system opens a tab everytime I click on a link, is there a way to avoid this?

Hi andreamonni,
Yes there is check out the feature opening a new window in a new tab.
Firefox menu > Preferences > Tabs the first check box.
If this is happening only on this website:
In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :
# In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
# Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
browser.link.open_newwindow
2 (default in SeaMonkey and Firefox 1.5): In a new window
3 (default in Firefox 2 and above): In a new tab
1 (or anything else): In the current tab or window
or
browser. link. open_newwindow. restriction

• Everytime I click on a link, instead of loading it on the same page it opens a new tab.

Suddenly every time I click on a link, it opens it in a new tab i.e.; if I search yahoo from my home page, it opens yahoo in a new tab, then when I click on yahoo mail, it opens yahoo mail in a new tab, and then when I sign in, it opens yet another new tab, etc etc. I must have pressed something, but I don't know how to undo it.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons. <br />
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)
* You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running. <br />
Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

After installing the safari update for windows, outlook is now not opening email hyperlinks.  I have set safari to be my default browser but outlook won't open it when I click a link.  I get the following message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."  Please help.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:
