Everytime I click on a link or shortcut it opens a new tab, why doesnt it open it on the tab im on?????? it does it for everything!

Every time I press on a shortcut or a link it used to open them on the tab that I was on, but now it always opens a new tab for everything and it is making me mad.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Yes there is check out the feature opening a new window in a new tab.
Firefox menu > Preferences > Tabs the first check box.

All of a sudden I can no longer open tabs by clicking "+" or right clicking on the tool bar. To open a new page, I have to open a whole newFirefox window. How can I fix this?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox 3.6 that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

Everytime I click on a link, instead of loading it on the same page it opens a new tab.

Suddenly every time I click on a link, it opens it in a new tab i.e.; if I search yahoo from my home page, it opens yahoo in a new tab, then when I click on yahoo mail, it opens yahoo mail in a new tab, and then when I sign in, it opens yet another new tab, etc etc. I must have pressed something, but I don't know how to undo it.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Everytime I click on a link through a search engine I am diverted to another search engine, why is that? Google + Bing are doing it!

Everytime I search something in google and bing, then go to click on a link, I am directed to another search engine, something like K Direct seems to be the main one. At first I thought this was a problem with Google but now Bing has started it, is this a firefox problem, a google + bing problem or a problem with my computer? Help!

Everytime i click on a link in my email in opens in the same tab, before the update it would open in a seperate tab like i wanted it to. Can someone please help

It might help if you would confirm the type of link that is opening in the same tab as the email you are reading in your outlook webmail. If I misunderstood your problem, please explain it better.

I click on a link or start typing text in a box on a webpage, any page, and the browser window either randomly changes size, reduces & goes to the toolbar, or some other strange random thing occurs. Why is this?

Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

When I click on download link, Firefox don't pop-up window where i could select open with or to save file, it just pop-up window where to save, why?

Before update, when i clicked on download link pop-up window would come up asking me if i wnat to open file with program or just save it, but after update i dont get that pop-up window, insted i get window asking me where to save it, how can i fix this problem, because i want sertain files to be opened with a program like it was before update? Why does ctrl+Left click a link open a new window? It should open a new tab in the current window.

When I try to Ctrl+Left click to open a link in a new tab, it will open it in a new window instead. Then while in the new window if I Ctrl+Left click a link it will open a new tab in the second window. If I then go back to the first Firefox window and Ctrl+Left click a link the second firefox window will pop up and the new tab will be created there. Why won't the Ctrl+Left click work when only one window is open?

I am using Robo Form like I have for years and when I click on a website to open it goes there and puts in the username and password and opens in a new tab but Robo Form stays on top and Firefox is underneath it and it used to automatically go to Firefox and put it on top and now it doesnt do that anymore.

Clicking on a link or email brings up a new tab when it should stay on existing page

Ever since I got Firefox 6, after 1-3 days of not rebooting, Firefox will start acting squirrelly: sometimes clicking on a web-based email will bring up the email in a new tab rather than on the same page. Today 1 of 2 open Firefox sessions kept changing window size (maximized to normalized, sometimes changing the size smaller when it happens. Rebooting solves the problem, so I just run System Mechanic, fix minor problems & reboot.

Found a solution to the problem. The permissions for the firefox.app file were not set to admin - read-write. After adding this permission using the get info menu item when right clicking the file name in the applications folder, the tab now automatically opens when clicking on Email link.

After my windows 7 computer did automatic updates, everytime I click on a link I get a not responding message and have to wait almost a minute for the program to continue.

Last night, my computer running Windows 7 premium home edition downloaded some automatic updates. I came in this morning to find that it had done a restart after adding these updates.
Now, anytime I click a link or do something which requires a redirect to another web page, my program gives me the not responding message and I have to wait 30-55 seconds for the program to continue.
I have Firefox 4 and it was running smoothly up until this morning, so I can only assume that whatever the automatic updates were, there is something in them that is causing this error. I do not know what updates were installed.

Everytime I click on a link and a new tab/window opens to open the link - i get an alert that says URL is not valid and cnnot be loaded. I click ok and the page loads fine. How do I get rid of this alert?

Actually the OP is running Firefox 3.6.8, but has a user agent that is corrupted by an extension (NET_mmhpset)
You can check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the about:config page. 
You can open the '''about:config''' page via the location bar, just like you open a website. 
Filter: general.useragent 
If '''general.useragent''' prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.
