Everytime i open a powerpoint file on my imac it freezes and i cannot close it down or work on it...
WHy does a powerpoint file freeze everytime i open it on my imac...
Please do NOT post your question multiple times in different threads.
One possibility is that the version of Powerpoint installed on your Mac is enough older than the version of Powerpoint on the PC used to create the file that it cannot read it.

I have a MacBook Pro (purchased in 2011) with OS X Lion 10.7.4. I'm using Microsoft Office 2011 and cannot open older PowerPoint Files (non .pptx). It will always open the same .pptx file and then the machine hangs up and just keeps spinning.
Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac). -

The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

Try repairing reader once and see if that fixes the issue.

Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies. How do I reverse this?

What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
1. Decide what exactly you want to do
2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do - the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto

My pages in Foxfore are overlaying one another which is normal but you cannot get back to the previous page. An example is if I have a page opened in a program and open something totally different it replaces the first page and I cannot reduce the size to see the first page I was viewing nor go back to it. I did open a page with audio and opened another application in foxfire and the replacing went on as usual but the audio continued to play so the page is stinn there. Also the tool bar page showing icon is replaced with the newly opened page not an additional page opened being shown as a tab. It's like the newest page or site I open in Foxfire replaces the one that is currently opened.

Can Quick Look but not open a PowerPoint file
Someone sent me a power point file, and I can open it in Quick Look both in Apple Mail and in the Finder. However, Quick Look doesn't allow me to enlarge it big enough to make out the details or to print it. Text Edit won't open it. When I try to double-click the file, the finder displays the message:
The document could not be opened. The file is not in the right format.
I have no idea why Windows users blithely send people files like this in proprietary formats under the assumption that anyone and everyone will have no problem opening them. However, since Quick Look can view this, is there another default program on the Mac that can actually open it?OK, downloaded and installed NeoOffice, and it did indeed open and play the PowerPoint presentation--which, incidently, seemed to employ every single transition known to Microsoft, made me a bit queasy.
As to why Windows users are so enamored with presentations, danged if I know. And why they have to email the things to everyone they know....well, it's a mystery.
