Everytime I open an attachment, a downloads tab pops up. How do I omit this tab from popping up?

Thank you but I guess I wasn't too clear. The link to the bugzilla information is about a very bad update that can NOT be trusted and if you read it the Mozilla folks hard blocked it and took legal action against whomever was sending it out.
The pop up I keep getting I can not trace who or where it is from. So on two unrelated matters I 1) have this non stop update that keeps popping up and 2) saw an article about a bad Firefox update that had been blocked. I put the two together and thought maybe my pop up was what the article was about and how can I tell if it is malice or a real FF update? Clear as mud now? lol

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It should be necessary to confirm that you want to install third-party extensions. 
This usually indicates that other software is messing with files in the profile folder and is corrupting them. 
This can either be the extensions.sqlite database file or the prefs.js that stores first run prefs (the first is the most likely cause).
Do you have any cleanup software running on a schedule that may be causing this?
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

Have you done a reboot? (holding the on/off and Home button at same time until the Apple logon appears.)
Also, have you tried closing all apps? (double click Home button and swipe up with your finger.)

Page outs going crazy for basic tasks - Mac stalls all the time - what's up?!

Hey, guys. So I have no idea what the problem is. Basically my mac is just going extremely slow and stalling sometimes for the most basic tasks. Mail, Safari, iTunes. It's a late '09 model, basic.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory. That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

File doesn't open all the time

I have created a numbers file that has several different sheets and on each sheet different tables.
There is a lot of referencing in the file from one table to another.
First it was about 307Kb (14 sheets) and then, adding some new sheets (up to 19) and tables it went up to 549 Kb, that's when the problem started. Sometimes the file opens, sometimes it doesn't, I get the colored ball and I can only force quit. When I re-start the computer it mostly opens.
What can be the reason for this? Is there a maximum of referencing (there are lots of VLOOKUP's?

(1) It seems that something is wrong in your system so First point keep a backup of a version which open.
(2) as the odd behaviour doesn't strike at every attempt, trying to open in an other user account will not be fully meaningful but try to do it.
If it fail, we will know that the oddity is not specific to your original account.
(3) If we can't know if the problem is specific to your account, quit the app and move its preference file :
<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Numbers. plist
on the desktop
Restart the app and use it this way for a period of time.
If the problem disappear, we will know that the culprit was the preferences file.
(4) save you document with an other name as a Numbers '08 one.
I guess that some formulas will be dropped in the process but don't worry.
Open the newly created '08 document with Numbers '09.
During the process, I hope that possible oddities will be dropped.
Open also the original '09 document so, you will be able to easily use copy-paste to restore thge formulas which may be gone in the process.
(5) as the oddity strike randomly, we can't exclude a material problem :
a Ram failure, a HD failure
So, running the Harware test application available on the install DVD may be a good thing to do.
(6) the problem is not linked to the number of VLOOKUPs
(7) I quite forgot to urge you to check the document memory requirement.
Before opening it or even before launching Numbers, launc "Activity Monitor" which is available in Applications:Utilities.
Then launch Numbers and at last, open the doc.
You will see how many Kbytes are required in RAM and on the HD (iWork apps make an heavy use of "virtual memory" which is HD space)
Maybe your installed RAM is a bit short or maybe your HD is too filled leaving an insufficient space for a correct behaviour.

When i close firefox and want to use it later i get a warning saying cannot open firefox close it first this keeps happening all the time any ideas to solve this problem? i have 2 mchines one on xp and one on windows 7

i have 2 pcs one with xp and the other with windows 7 heres the problem
when i close firefox and say go back to it say in 10 mins i get a error message saying to close firefox before opening!!! but firefox window is closed but the processes still say its running in task manager so to correct this i have to end process on firefox. this seems to be happening now every time in the last few days i have upgraded firefox to the latest version. any ideas on how to solve this problem.

Safari not opening all the time

Help, when I click to open Safari, many times it doesn't open and I'm told it is not responding. Usually, I have to click on Safari, then go to Force Quit about 6 -7 times before the program will open. I have the latest Safari update installed still the same poblem. Please go slow with the answers, i'm not really good at the technical side of the computer. thank you.

Ical automatically opens all the time

My ical recently crashed and all information was lost, Luckily I have everything backed up. Anyway I have decided not to use ical anymore as it is not syncing with my blackberry either. The problem is that it keeps opening not matter how many times I quit it. Can anyone please help?

It sounds like you have alarms set. Before it crashed did you have some alarms set? You might want to look for all the iCal files, and delete them. Or see if you can find why it's not syncing with your blackberry and fix that.

Search panel/tab opening all the time

Why is Search panel/tab opening at the bottom of Dreamweaver every single time I want to Search/Replace something, its very annoying when I do not need this and I need to close it every time.
I never use this Search tab at the bottom and I'm pulling my hair like crazy just to get rid of it ASAP.

This should only open when you do a find all or replace all, and opens to enable you to review the changes or search for a specific line?
Is this the behaviour you are getting?
If you do a find (or find next), then individual replace, it should not open.

I use a popup ads opener but recently it goes maximized and i wan it minimized all the time.

My problem is the auto maximize of the browser.i don't know how to disable it.
I use a site that automatically opens popups every 30 sec.it wasn't auto maximize before and i dont know what happened to it.so there must be a reason for it.

Why will my firefox not open all the time on my windows xp pro and gives me an error message instead?

I some times get this message "The instructions at "ox879ab0e3 referenced memory at "ox879ab0e3" . The memory could not be "read". Check ok to terminate the program.
And sometimes the session will simply not update since the firefox has shutdown but the then present sites are open but won't update.
If shut down my computer and restart, I have better than an 80% chance that fire fox will not open---probably less than 29% chance that it will open. I have to just repeat the shut down over and over until fire fox will open.

When I click a mailto link in Firefox, it no longer opens a window for me to write and send the email in Thunderbird (which is my default email app and is open all the time).

Not sure. Possibly since I got a new laptop with Win 7 or maybe since my last Firefox update. I usually have a very current version of Firefox and Thunderbird. My laptop is 64 bit.

Check the value under Tools -> Options -> Applications, filtering for '''mailto''', and make sure it is set to Thunderbird.

Unexpectedly goes into Sleep Mode... All the time!

I've had this Powerbook for about 2 years now, and I've got some problems. About every 5 or 10 minutes, it goes into sleep mode! It acts as if I close the screen, so I wake it up by pressing the spacebar. But sometimes... pressing the space bar doesn't wake it up, not even holding the power button turns it off! I have to remove the battery to restart it! Can someone help please?
By the way, I checked "Power Save" settings in System Prefs and everything seems to be correct.

If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
Yours would be the 10.4.7 Combo update. Others reading, download the combo update that applies to you!

Any page I open does so with the screen shifting 25% to the right meaning I can't see all the page - how do I sort this?

When I open firefox and go to any webpage (including right now as I write this) the screen has shifted to the right and runs off screen - I'm left with a huge blank gap on the left handside of the page.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, but it hs done the same thing - although mysteriously my homepage was kept?

The Babylon Toolbar 1.1.8 extension is known to cause something like that. Disable or uninstall that add-on until the developer fixes the cause of that problem.
