Everytime I restart Firefox, my bookmarks are lost and I lose my quick tabs to websites?

I came home today, started up Firefox, and noticed my bookmarks were gone and my quick tabs to popular sites, yahoo, etc. were missing. I went to organize bookmarks and restored them, but when I shut down Firefox and re-started it again, I AGAIN had lost my bookmarks and quick tabs. My computer is an IMac, OS X 10.5.8 and I'm running Firefox 3.6.13. Help!

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • After updating to firefox 5 all my bookmarks are lost, and I can not find an old places.sqlite file. What happened to my bookmarks?

I updated from Firefox 3 to Firefox 5 (Windows XP), and all my bookmarks are lost. Maybe I should have thought of making a backup but I did not think of this and previously after an update I could find them again. Now I can not find my bookmarks anywhere, all files in my profile have a date and time from the new installation. Is there any chance of finding my bookmarks somewhere else on my computer? If so, where are they and how can I restore them?

Thanks for the answer. I read the article but it seems that the solution to my problem is not in there. Apart from the lost bookmarks Firefox is working fine, also I can make new bookmarks and delete them without problems. When I restart Firefox I don't loose them.
Apparently after installing Firefox 5 everything of Firefox 3 was deleted including my profile. The only bookmark .json file I have is from the new installation, which means it does not contain any of my old bookmarks. It now has today's date and time.
In my profile I have three 'places' files, now all with today's date and time:
    - places.sqlite (10240 kb)
    - places.sqlite-shm (32 kb)
    - places.sqlite-wal (865 kb)
But even though places.sqlite is large, it apparently does not contain my old information. Or could it? Then how to get to it?

  • New computer, installed Firefox 11, bookmarks are there and working, on my old system Firefox bookmarks had an option to"show bookmarks" where the whole list stay up on the left side of the screen. Is there a way to do this with Firefox 11?

Cannot get the bookmarks list to stay up on the screen, it works, does go to the sites I click on but gets annoying when I have a quite a few sites I check every day having to open the menu every time.

Press the Control Key, then B. Is that the panel on the left hand side you want? If you leave that open, it will automatically open every time you restart Firefox from now on.

  • Bookmarks are lost and address/search bar is nonfunctional due to non exisistant corrupt

Firefox unexpectedly updated itself and upon doing so, lost all of my bookmarks. Also, when a new browser window opens, three windows open: the welcome window, the start page and the invisible hand page. Every time, as if I have just Firefox every time. Also, the address and search bar don't work. I can search through the Google search on the start page, but the search on the header is no longer functional.
I have tried to start the page in the safe mode to no avail. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it to no avail.

  • How do you save a change made in the about:config area so that I don't have to change it everytime I restart firefox

    Hi
I somehow d/l the extension mp3toolbar.com and I disabled it in the add ons section, however it has changed my default search engine from Google to mp3toolbar. I went into the about:config section and changed the keyword entry to google, but everytime I restart Firefox it goes back to mp3toolbar search. This is when I type something in the location bar. I want to know how to change it permanently back to google for default search engine. Please help. Thank you.

  • Please clarify the purpose of sync. I thought of it as a backup tool and reinstalled windows and now years of bookmarks are lost. This hurts!

I would like you to please verify the purpose of sync more clearly in the future. I had to reinstall windows and thought I could use sync to save my bookmarks. Now years of bookmarks are lost because the program was not specific in telling me about the recovery keys until it was too late. This put a huge dent in my productivity and really sets me back. I realize that nothing can be done at this point but please clarify this for others so that it doesn't happen again. This really sucks!

  • Acrobat bookmarks are lost when resaving the file

    Hi,
I am converting a docx to pdf using Save as --> PDF --> clicking on options and selecting create bookmarks using headings and publish.
The conversion is done perfectly. However after encrypting, or changing a name of a bookmark and saving after that, the bookmark links are lost. When I right click on any bookmark and checking there link, there is nothing.
I noticed that if I use Microsoft Word 2007 with SP2 this problem is resolved. However, I have various pdfs already converted (and don't have the original doc) which I need to encrypt. However this is not possible to do so as they lose their bookmarks.
Is there a solution for this?

I am seeing a similar bug in Acrobat, and I am seeing it in both Acrobat 7 and Acrobat 9.
If I have an open PDF, and I choose File > Save As, then rename the PDF, all bookmarks are lost.
    Gone. Poof. Bye-bye.
If I rename the file in Windows Explorer, the bookmarks are retained just fine.
This happens without exception. Every PDF file.
I simply cannot use the File > Save As command at all. Ever.
First detected it in Acrobat 7, and I am still seeing this behavior in Acrobat 9.

  • Mozilla was slow and i have reset it! Now, all my bookmarks are gone and when I try to recover it, it says not possible to process the file! WHAT NOW?

Today my Mozilla was slow and as the solution i was offered below is reset to its default settings and Mozilla would like to keep all the old data! Of course, that I did that and for a minute an unpleasant surprise!
No bookmarks, no history nor can add Bookmarks in the toolbar or the back button works (works with backspaceom) nor offers page while typing in adressbar.
I find a bunch of online tutorials recovery but nothing! Firefox is saved on the desktop folder "Firefox old data" but when I go importat says "file can not be prosecuted."
    What now?
Bookmarksi are very important to me and I am now as one eye!
Now Mozilla is not remembering browsing history neither!
    OS is W7 Pro 64
    Comp is HP8710w
    Thank you!

    Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
    # At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
    # Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
    # In the new window that appears, click OK.
    # Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.

  • My bookmarks are gone, and the awesome bar is not working anymore.

Yesterday morning I had a short problem with my internet connection. I used the qwest quick care to try and solve the issue, but it didn't really help. The internet connection was restored later in the day. Now, however, all my bookmarks are gone and the "awesome bar" no longer makes suggestions for sites when we start typing.

Did you install the Places Maintenance extension and checked the places.sqlite database file?

  • Since the FF8 update, all bookmarks were lost and none of the recommended methods for restoring lost bookmarks work; I always get "Unable to process to backup file" even though the backup .json files still exist

Since a FF8 update, all bookmarks were lost and none of the recommended restore methods work, even though I have been able to find the backup ".json" files; I continually get "Unable to process the backup file" for all methods of importing or restoring the bookmarks from the .json files. As others note, I can also no longer add any new bookmarks to my now empty bookmarks tab. My profile has not changed, so that's not the problem. This is really a pain.

Did you try to delete the file places.sqlite to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database file from a JSON backup?
