Everytime I restart my iMac I have to type in a password. I've gone into "Preferences" and then to "Security" and nothing is checked there.
I've already "repaired permissions", and "repaired disk".
So what am I doing wrong?

As for spam, I didn't give out my email per se, my account with Host Monster was accessed and from that day forward I received over 200 spam emails per day. If the enclosing folder is one used by Mac OS X itself, leave it as is.

My Norton Identity Safe won't work with the new version (4) of Firefox AND the new version isn't asking me to Remember my password info either - SO I now have to type in my password info wherever I go which is NOT a good thing. What can I do???

I have Norton Internet Security.
When I downloaded the new FF4 they said that a part of Norton wasn't compatible - and it seems that that part must have been my Identity Safe which holds all my password info & fills in all of my passwords for me.
You say this new version of FF automatically prompts me to have it save this info for me, but I sure didn't see that prompt and now every time I visit my online banking (and credit card site, etc, etc,) I have had to type in all this info myself.
This certainly is not convenient!

Hmmm, Norton extensions are broken again in Firefox 4.0.1. It seems that Norton didn't allow for Firefox 4.0 security updates when they updated their Firefox extension for Firefox 4.0. Norton says they'll have a fix in two weeks. A Norton user posted a fix in this forum thread.

Why

Apps, whether the be free or require a payment are then associated with the Apple ID that was used to download them. To make sure that the person downloading the app is the person to whom the purchase or download will be associated you are requested to enter your password. That's the way it is.
Updating previously downloaded apps no longer requires entering your password.
Downloading multiple apps in sequence will also require only entering your password once.

Since there was an overhaul a few months ago, Apple Discussion Forums no longer allows the passwords to be remembered by Firefox' password manager or by keyword access (whichever does it here for this forum)
It used to work that I could just access the forum.
Now I always have to type in my password.

A workaround. When you get to the sign in page, click in your username box then tab down to the password box. Your password should autofill.
When two big companies end up with broken features like this, they usually end up blaming each other and users are usually left finding work arounds until things are fixed.....and perhaps they never will be.

But what I need and do not yet see, is:
when a box appears with , say, an ID on top and a blank box below asking me to fill in the password - I do not want to have to type in the password, I want the password to already be in there, in text, or even in a line of dots, and then these entries to be accepted.

This has nothing to do with your pictures. As long as LR works, nothing happens. The CC app merely has lost an entry in the installer database. Would a reinstall fix it? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really (until the next version or update). So unless you have too much time to spend or something isn't working, I'm sure you can find more interesting things to do with your tiem. Otherwise use the cleaner tool and get to it:

I am trying to Upgrade my iMac running 10.6 to the latest OSX Combo upgrade... however on restart my iMAC 'panics' - crashes?... i have seen some discussion on this but no resolution so far that works for me... any ideas?

This is proving somewhat frustrating. End goal is to upgrade the iMAC to Lion. However, in order to use the downloaded version of Lion Install package, i have first to upgrade my iMAC from OSX 10.6 (i.e. I need at least 10,7 to get access to the APP store).
However, whenever I have tried to upgrade, then on restart the machine 'panics'.
At first I thought it was some form of malware and erased and repartioned the disk and then re-installed. However, this did not solve the problem.
Is there a problem with post 10.6 upgrades ?

Hi Paul,
I am using Snow Leopard 10.6 (re-installing as we speak). on an iMac.
Have verified startup disk as well as verified permissions.
Have cleared the PRAM (using option-command-P-R keys and waiting for the chimes).
Only peripherals are an apple usb keyboard and an apple usb mouse connected via keyboard usb adapter.
Machine runs fine at 10.6
problem only occurs when i try to reboot after installing the Combo upgrade.
p.s. i also have a MACBook Pro and have had no similar issues with that. So am guessing it is somethign related specifically to iMac hardware/firmware ?

Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.
