Everytime I shut down my computer, when I start it back up it opens 10 to 15 applications

What do I need to do to keep my mac from popping up 10 to 15 applications when I start it up after it has been shut down?

Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”

• Should I shut down my computer when not in use

should I shut down my computer when not in use, overnight for instance?

Hello! Leaving it on 24/7/365 is perfectly acceptable. You may save some electricity but personally I think you'll pay for it with a more troublesome system. I do however set the monitors to go to sleep. I like the no startup lag time of running 24/7/365. That said, if I lived in an area prone to electrical outages or if my location was prone to lightening strikes I'd probably shut it down and unplugged. Of course with it being unplugged the pram battery may run down. These old G4's have been running 24/7/365 for years now. I do try to restart every few weeks just for good measure! In the end it's your preference. The hardware works best when a constant temperature is maintained. Tom

• Why does my iphone shut down my computer when i have pictures on my phone

Why does my iphone shut down my computer when I plug into the USB port when I have pictures on my phone. My computer says it has found a new digital camera - then my computer shuts down.

Thank you Lawrence. I forgot I used to run a Logitech webcam several years ago and I hadn't uninstalled program when I changed the camera to a different one. I uninstalled the camera and it now seems to accept my phone with pictures onto my computer without shutting my computer down. I really appreciate your help with this problem.

• Everytime i shut down my computer my downloaded apps disappear. i have to re-download them, eg skype. what can i do to stop this?

everytime i shut down my computer my downloaded apps disappear. i have to re-download them, eg skype. what can i do to stop this? i have a mac book pro

When you download them and open the image, are you copying the app into your Applications folder or just running it from the image?
If the latter, drag them into your Applications folder and open them from there.

• I am asked repeatedly if I want to shut down my computer when I do not. How can I stop this from happening?

I am asked over and over again if I want to shut down my computer now. No matter how many times I click "cancel" the box returns with the same maddening question. I'm using Lion on a Mac Pro. How can I get this to stop?

Perhaps the problem is that your Security setting is set to log you out immediately that your Sleep mode activates. And maybe your sleep setting is quite frequent.
Otherwise you may have set a shutdown timing in Energy Saver>Schedule that keeps repeating when you cancel the Shut Down window.
I haven't tried these yet and they are rather obscure, but they may be the software problems to check before servicing your hardware (keys and power button).

• My Pavilion DMT-1000 shuts down immediately when it starts to boot up.

HP Paviliion DM4T-1000 running Windows 7 shuts down as soon as it starts to boot up. It passes the startup tests, but it shuts down after about an hour doing the hard disk test. It also shuts down from the boot menu after about an hour. The fan is running full speed at all times and the airflow is perfectly good. I have tried reinitiating the BIOS by removing the internal battery and doing a hard reboot. I have tried booting off of a CD and using the F11. Everything results in immediate shut down. Should the fan be running full speed immdediately? How can I tell if the BIOS thinks the temperature is too high? Is there a test point to monitor? What else can cause a failure to boot?

• Shut down of computer when exporting

Hey guys,
I've been reading forums for about a half day now and need some help narrowing down the problem.
Essentially, my computer turns off in the middle of an export. Usually reboots fine, but one time it would shut down after 5-10 seconds, without even booting windows (which causes me to think heat issue). After a several shut downs, it started back up
From all my reading it seems it is either heat, motherboard, or power supply.
I've found that my system goes up to 70C (158F) when exporting. It may be even getting hotter.
My CPU is running at near 100%
All my allocated ram 13GB out of 16GB is mostly being used - shows 12.7GB
This is my system build
i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4GHZ 4 cores
4x4 GB Ram Corsair 1600C9
2x1TB raid 0 blue hard drives (Western Digital Sata 6.0 32m)
GeForce GTX680
OCZ vertex 3 - 120 GB SSD 6gbps
Asus P8P67 Deluxe
Corsair TX850W
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX
This is a HW monitor screen grab on a successful export when the computer DID NOT shut down.
After the export, my cores go back down to the 30C range.
Looking at my event viewer, I get the Kernel-Power error when my computer has shut down.
I'm fine adding a cooling system (more fans or liquid cooling). I'm also fine with changing out the power supply or getting a new motherboard. What I do want to figure out is which to try first and what's the most likely cause.
Thanks in advance!
Greg

Are you using the stock Microsoft CPU cooler, or an aftermarket brand... and which one?

• Where can I download an earlier version of firefox. Version 4 does not shut down properly so when I start it again it says firefox is already running. I'm very close to going back to Internet Explorere

Firefox 4 doesn't shut down properly. If I close it and reopen it later it tells me firefox is already running and I end up restarting my computer.
This is the shits

You may still have a Croatian language pack installed if you didn't uninstall a previously installed Croatian version and checked the Firefox program folder for remnant leftover files.
* "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\chrome"
If you download the full en-US version and install that version then the language shouldn't change.

• My iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I tried a reset and it shut down. But when I turned it back on the problem persists thanks for any help

my iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I have tried a reset and it shut down. When I turned it back on, the problem persists. Thanks for any help.

If the reset doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the device to factory settings using iTunes on a computer. If you can backup the iPad first, do so and then restore to factory settings. If it all works out properly, you can restore the backup after you finish. If you didn't or can't backup, the iPad will be erased when you restore to factory settings.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
IF you can't restore that way, the next step would be to try using recovery mode.

• How to turn on and shut down Xserve RAID when G5 starts

Hello,
Finally i Put my Xsevre RAID in the Aiino ClusterMaster 12U
connected with the G5 via the two fibre channel and one ethernet to control start up and shut down.
Since I don't leave the machine always on when not on schedule, everytime I Start the G5 I have to launch RAID Admin, erase the system, add a new one, enter monitoring password (that switched back to factory default), and start the Xserve (and I have to enter management password).
Is there a Script or something like that that runs automatically when I start the G5 and when i switch it off, so I don't have to do all these steps everytime including unmouting the Xserve prior to shutting It down?
thank you in advance

• Each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer. This happened after the latest download, any suggestions?

each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer. This started happening after the latest download and my latest purchase. The latest purchase doesn't show up on my iPod and itunes freezes at synching step 2 on 2. Any suggestions?

You should Reset your iPod, by
1. Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 Secs till the Apple Logo comes ON.
2. Disconnect the sync cable.
3. Check the iPod Welcome screen, select language, go to menu (if you are lucky, your music are still on the iPod.)
if your iPod doesn't show the Welcome screen, bring it to Apple Store.
If the above is okay, (can see Menu but no Music)
4. Close iTunes and Reboot your PC.
5. Start iTunes
6. Connect the iPod to the Sync cable.
7. if iTunes ask to Restore, please do so.
8. Sync your iPod. ( I would advise you to disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program when doing this.)
Good Luck.

Everytime I tried to click something on my computer screen, this thing would jump over to the reading list. Then, after awhile, my computer was running really slow. So, I decided to shut down my computer. Then, I turned it back on. When I tried to log on, everything was on caps. But, my keyboard was not on caps lock. I thought that it might work, but then I had to put a dot. And instead it gave me a >, as if I was holding down the shift key, and I wasn't. So, I can't get on my computer, and I need it for school tomorrow. Thanks so much.

• July 18,2011 AOL toolbar update install. I cannot open Firefox to uninstall the update or the toolbar because everytime I open Firefox it freezes and jams up. I have to shut down my computer as it will not even respond to force quit command

July 18,2011 AOL toolbar update install. I cannot open Firefox to uninstall the update or the toolbar because everytime I open Firefox it freezes and jams up. I have to shut down my computer as it will not even respond to force quit command. I cannot read my mail (aol) or access my bookmarks all for work.

Try the Firefox SafeMode.
''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
# You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
# Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
You should be able to uninstall that AOL toolbar extension while running in the Firefox SafeMode.
