Everytime I try to burn an iMovie project to a DVD with iDVD, the disc is ejected during the Burning and Multiplexing phase before it's completed.

For months I have been unable to burn any iMovie project to a DVD using iDVD.  During the Burning and Multiplexing phase the disc is ejected before it's complete.  I went the Genius Bar and after many tests I was told that my disc drive was pretty much dead.  The person that helped recommended that I buy an external DVD burner from amazon.  I bought the new drive and I can now burn files, but I'm still encountering the same issue burning a movie.  Does anyone have any idea what'g going on?  I'm extremely frustrated at this point!

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

How do i burn multiple Imovie projects to one dvd with roxio toast 10? Can i add all of the projects or do i need to export them as a quicktime movie first or something?

You can share the first movie from iMovie, but all the others will need to be exported from iMovie as movies and dragged into the iMovie project.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's a iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.   https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie

Cannot burn an iMovie project to a DVD because the computer can't find iDVD.  Anyone know how to accomplish this task.

Macs don't come bundled with iDVD anymore. If you have an older Mac that came with an iLife disk, you can install iDVD from that.
If your Mac didn't come with iDVD, you can still find iLife '11 disks in some stores.
There are other programs that can create DVDs, but I've never used them. From what I've heard, they're not as good as iDVD.

  • How do I burn an iMovie project onto a DVD?

I have recently completed an iMovie project, and I want to burn the project onto a DVD. I have exported the project and burnt it, but it only opens with iTunes and Quicktime, and I was hoping to play the movie on a DVD player. I am desperate and need assistance ASAP !!

When in iMovie, click Share then iDVD. In iDVD you can customize your dvd menu. After you are done, then click File, Burn DVD or ⌘+R. And it will ask you to insert your blank disk and then it will start burning. After it has completed the burn, it will ask you if you want to make another disk (if you want multiple copies). Your movie should then be viewable on any DVD player.

  • How do you burn an iMovie project to a DVD without using iDVD themes?

I created a presentation (slide show with music) in iMovie and need to burn it to a DVD.  When I pull it into iDVD, it forces me to pick a theme which puts more music in.  I just want it the way I have it in iMovie!  How do I do that?

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to burn an iMovie project to a DVD

I have created a movie using iMovie version 10.0 6.  I have iDVD version 7.1.2.  The only "sharing" in this version of iMovie are Theater, Email, iTunes, You Tube, Facebook, Vimeo, CNN Rept, File and Image.  There is no export button, no media browser and no iDVD.  How can I get the movie project out of iMovie and into iDVD so I can burn it to a DVD?

iMovie 10 is not very good for making DVDs.  My favorite is iMovie HD 06, or iMovie 11.   With iMovie HD 06, 1 click and you are sharing with iDVD. Moreover, one click will allow you to create chapter markers that are automatically recognized by iDVD.   Apple removed the ability to create chapter markers in iMovie 10. IMovie HD 06 is readily available on Amazon as part of iLife 06. It does cost more, but worth every penny.

Share ➙ iDVD method works with older, (better) iMovie versions.
In iMovie 10:  You want to use the Share  ➙ Media Browser method and then access the movie in iDVD via the Media Browser.  But you will not be able to create chapter markers.

  • I just want to burn my imovie project to a dvd.  I have a macbook pro with retina display, the most recent update of imovie and mountain lion.

I can't seem to figure out how to burn my imovie to a dvd.  I have an external optical superdrive and blank dvds.  Is there a way to do it without downloading lots of other apps/software?  I bought a macbook instead of pc because I wanted the video/photo editing, I'll be disappointed if there isn't a convinent way to turn them into a hard copy dvd to share with family and friends.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

  • In Lion, how do I burn a iMovie project to a DVD?

I'm try to burn the project I made in iMovie to a DVD for playback on a DVD player, I have the new Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro. How do I burn a dvd from the project in iMovie?

Yes, iDVD is probably best for you.  Toast is also good, but if you are on a budget, Burn is a free download:

  • Putting multiple iMovie projects onto one DVD

I was wondering if there was a way to put multiple iMovie projects onto one DVD using iDVD?

actually none of those options worked probably since the movies were in IMOVIE2
Ah... You didn't say it was an iMovie 2 project. iMovie project is different from iMovie HD.
I want to store the image file from the dvd's off site as I don't have the space to archive the projects - it seems I can't do that as it copies over to the server but shows up as a 4kb file - any suggestions how I can do this?
I might be wrong (since I don't have iMovie 2), I assume iMovie 2 has the similar QT "reference" movie as the iMovie HD. This "reference" movie is not a "self-contained" (a QT term) movie, i.e. it only has instructions of the makeup of the "real" movies. You cannot use it to archive. If you want to offload your movie from your computer, you should copy the entire iMovie 2 project folder to an external archive.

  • How do I burn a simple iMovie project to a dvd ?

I am so frustrated every time I make an iMovie project and am ready to burn it to a dvd whether for a client or family/friends because I struggle each time to know what the steps are.  When I finally get one burnt it is just by accident it seems and I go through so many dvds it's not funny.  I don't like to use DVDR's that are printable because when they don't work I have wasted one of them, and I want to make professional looking dvds with a picture or logo printed on the dvd.  There is nothing on the iMovie Help button that leads you to the steps for burning a dvd from your project even after you have shared/saved it in the size format you will be showing it.  If I type in BURN IMOVIE DVD or anything at all like that it leads me to dead ends.  I eventually seem to burn a dvd but it seems it is only by hit and miss and a lot of wasted dvdr's.  Please, can't Apple provide simple steps to follow to burn iMovie projects to a dvd for viewing on various computers and tvs?  I REALLY need answers.

In addition to John's suggestions this is what I was referring to. Use a template such as this one:
Select the button that's on the menu and delete it
Make a simple black graphic in any basic graphics application and fill it with black. Just drag the graphic into the menu to replace the background.
In map view place your video in the first play box
