Everytime I try to open a PDF file the site crashes.

I've tried to uninstall and reinstall
Adobe 3 times and it's still doing the same thing.  Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?  I'm on Windows Vista.  The message that comes back says Internet Explorer has stopped working.  Then it tries a couple of times to reconnect but then it just crashes.

I don't know what's happened now.  I downloaded the windows installer clean up and it still doesn't work.  I now have Acrobat.com that is still in my programs and featers that I can't uninstall.  When I try to remove it, it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."  I've now tried to remove and reinstall Adobe 3 times and I've tried to download Adobe 8 and that doesn't work either.  I'm stuck.

  • When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes

When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes. I have to open the reader, then search for the pdf file through the reader. I'm using Adobe Reader 11.0.5 with windows 7 service pack 1 home premium. Is there any way I can just click on a PDF file and the reader automaticaly opens? I purchased the upgrade so I can convert PDF to Word but it didnt make any difference.

    Some things to try...
    Update Reader to version 11.0.06
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

Something is definitely wrong with your install of Reader.
A PDF consists of only the number of pages it was created with.  Reader can and will only open those pages... IF it's installed and working properly.
Opening multiple blank pages from a document which contains none is a clear sign that the software isn't functioning. It's like putting a movie into a DVD player, and your TV starts a picture slide show of your last Summer's vacation. Not possible unless there's something seriously wrong.
    Uninstall Reader 9.
Use either Adobe's clean uninstaller or Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2. exe) to remove all Reader installer files from your system.
Reinstall Reader 9 from a new download (do not use the old one if you still have it on your system)

  • Everytime I try to open a PDF file, Mozilla opens new page upon page, until there are literally hundred, and the only way to stop it is to force quit the program. Very frustrating and occurs even after updates.

    running firefox 5.0.1 on a Mac OS X 10.5.8

I've just become so used to this I forgot it's a bug. I just accept it as part of the Snow Leopard experience. I've done the whole inventory of fixes including a complete reformat and clean install. There is a work around for it though - instead of clicking the attachment button - which always crashes Mail - just drag the file on to the mail window. This usually works for me. Maybe one day this will be fixed along with the Quick Time, Safari and Finder bugs.

  • I have downloaded reader on my ipad, but everytime i try to open a pdf it tells me to get reader

i have downloaded reader on my ipad, but everytime i try to open a pdf it tells me to get reader

There are a couple of reasons this might happen. The first is as Bernd suggests - some sites don't expect mobile browsers and they refuse to serve PDF's to browsers they think won't have a PDF Reader. Sometimes, people see a message like this message because the PDF contains advanced features (like dynamic XFA forms). These PDF files actually embed this message into the document so that it is displayed by viewers that cannot display the content. These files can only be viewed on desktop versions of Adobe Reader. The message looks like this:
    "Please wait...
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document.

  • Firefox 3.6.10 crashes each time I try to open a PDF file? Any suggestions?

Each time I try to open a PDF file from any website, Firefox (3.6.10) crashes. No error messages--just closes abruptly. For add-ons, I've got Personas 1.6.1, United States English Dictionary 1.0.0, and WOT. I've got the Adobe Reader 9 and Foxit 3.3.1.0518. The crashes of Firefox occur with both PDF readers. I did go through the posted solutions for PFD related crashes in the FAQ section but those steps did not resolve the problem.

Does that only happen if you open the PDF files in the browser or also if you open the PDF files in the standalone program by disabling the plugin?

Your file association is corrupted; reinstalling or repairing Adobe Reader will likely fix it.
If you want to fix it manually, tell us your operating system & version.
