EWA without Diagnostics

Hi There
We are planning on setting up EWA in an Solution Manager 7.0 Ehp1 system.
Our Landsacpe consists of 4.7 R3 systems based on SAP_BASIS 6.20 and BI systems based on Netweaver 7.0. All the systems, Logical componenets and Solutions have been setup in SMSY on the Sol Man system.
We are not planning on implementing Diagnostics in the near future and we have do not have CCMS setup in  any of the R3 or BI systems.
Now is there any value in just setting up EWA for these systems in SOl Man. If we turn on SDCCN in the R3 and BI systems what kind of alerts will I be able to see in Sol Man system, assuming that all config related to EWA (SDCCN) has been setup in Sol man and satelliet systems.
Also, we have configured the production systems in a separate solution.
If I regsiter this solution with SAP will I be getting any reports on the health of the systems based on the current config ?
Will EWA collect statistics from saposcol in each system and generate any valuable reports OR will EWA without CCMS setup (OR Diagnostics) not yield any report ?
Thanks

Hi Sapkid,
You can configure EWA without diagnostics and later add the same with diagnostics. The initial prerequisite of configuring diagnostics is Activating SDCCN , Early watch alerts etc, We call it as Starter solution manager pack. Once this is done, we can proceed with configuring diagnostics by installing wily IM , SMD agents etc.
Please go ahead and configure EWA  and diagnostics can be added at later stage.
Best regards,
Vin

  • DBMS_SPACE.OBJECT_GROWTH_TREND without Diagnostics Pack

    Hi ,
Can i use DBMS_SPACE.OBJECT_GROWTH_TREND without Diagnostics Pack? As per the docs this procedure uses AWR for information retrieval.
Also I've seen that there are multiple bugs related to this in <10.2.0.3. Can some one share their experiences with this option.
My objective here is to observe past object growth at database/object level. This seems to be the ONLY option provided by oracle for this.Any other hints apart from custom scripts.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Thanks for the info Brain.
As per the licencing docs AWR is part of Diagnostics pack. I'm not supposed to access any AWR tables without proper licence. It also mentions set of packages which will use the AWR information and i'm not supposed to use those packages as well. But no where in the licencing document there is a information about DBMS_SPACE package.
Having said all this, licencing doc also mentions that there are few tables/view that start with DBA_HIST, which can be used WITHOUT licence.
I need to know if there is any clear YES or NO kind of information for my question. Any information you have will be highly helpful.
    Thanks,

  • EWA state="data is available" but there is no "SM:EXEC SERVICES" job

    Hi everybody,
i have a Problem with EWAs. It seems to work all fine, it does, until the EWA is in the state "data is available".I can generate a EWA without a problem, when i use the button "start service processing", but i want it to be generated automatically. I searched with TA SM37 for the job SM:EXEC SERVICES in SolMan and in the monitored system, but i didn´t find the job?
Any ideas, what the problem can be?
    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi,
    @Rohit
Thank you for your reply, but this was not what i looked for. Thank you anyway!
    @David
Thanks, i will check my system and look at the table, i think this is a good beginning. Unfortuneately the note is at the moment not available....
I am going to give feedback, if i found the finally solution!

  • Super slow laptop - hardware diagnostics

Satellite C855-S5206, example of slowness: uninstalled Kaspersky (eliminating possible software issues) it took hours, did complete.  The CPU never moved above 5%, usually at 1.  no messages, just slow, was done eventually.  Swapped memory, no unusual tasks in memory, ran offline virus scan (MS security essential scan found nothing.)  Windows 7 home prem 64.
I'm thinking CPU / cache problem, but without diagnostics, who knows?  Any thoughts?  Have I missed something?

Thanks for the reply, I will keep that number handy.
I finally determined by booting Linux and Bart PE CD's that the processor was running just fine.  I'm guessing a virus that didn't make it all the way in had a conflct with Kaspersky and Windows lost, though I've never seen this symptom (and I have seen and removed a LOT of virus/root kit infections.)
Restore from hidden partition with user data saved worked fine.  Of course followed by 2 hours of bringing Windows, etc. current on maintenance.
If this is a new virus, I would be interested if anyone finds a fix that doesn't require going back to the bare metal.  I hate to do that.

  • Performance after enable diagnostics

In the release we are using dbxml-2.3.10 setting logging to verbose does not lead to verbose logging from replication and recovery. We have to enable diagnostics when compiling to get that.
If we enable diagnostics but keep verbose logging off, is there a performance impact?
We are concerned that so far we always compiled without diagnostics and we will have to enable it now.
    Any information is very helpful.

    Hello,
Yes, the Berkeley DB library needs to be built with
--enable-diagnostic to utilize verbose logging from replication
and recovery. --enable-diagnostic causes a number of additional
checks to be performed when Berkeley DB is running, and also causes
some failures to trigger process abort rather than returning errors
to the application. This argument should not be specified when
configuring production binaries. For additional details please see
the "Configuring Berkeley DB" section of the documentation at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/ref/build_unix/conf.html

  • Early Watch Session overdue - Error in Data Transfer

    Hi folks,
in my solution, the Early Watch Reports from the productive system are labeled overdue (with a red flag). It says that there is no data transmitted from SDCC.
When calling SDCC manually, it says that I don't have the necessary authorisation (one of the three S_SDCC_* profiles) to call it in the satellite system. I, though, HAVE all of the profiles.
    RFC also works fine.
When calling SDCC in the productive system itself, it says: "EWA_SAPOSCOL_B : no matching interface found" " > function module not found" "EWA_SAPOSCOL_B : funcname /SDF/EWA_SAPOSCOL_B , module 001203", which seems to be the real problem. I don't have a clue what that means respective where to look to get rid of it.
Can anybody solve this? Points will be rewarded as a matter of course. Thanx in advance!
    Dirk

The red flag means the session is overdue.
Could be for a number of reason - firstly are the trusts correct set? As it appears (from the text you've posted) you cant call SDCCN on the remote system from SOLMAN.
The other reasons could be you dont have the correct configuration setup on the monitored node.
SDCCN Check the RFC settings for Setting-Task specific.
You should have a link pointing back to SOLMAN and this should have the tick for Master set.
Check you have the correct sessions scheduled and they are set against the RFC for solman, not OSS and they are a periodic job.
    Sessions needed are
    Refresh Sessions
    Request session data.
You can manually run the session by right clicking and say run now.
If you are still struggling post additional details.
RTCCTOOL is used to check patch levels are upto date, not the configuration or links. You can still run EWA without being on the latest patch.

  • Solution Manager Setup & Configuartion

    Hi There
This is a question on Solution Manager setup.
We are in the process of configuring Solution manager. Basically we have installed two Sol Man 7.0 (Ehp1) systems development (SOD)  and Production (SOP)
We are insterested in configuring EWA and also would want CCMS monitoring (diagnostics) for our R3, SCM,and BI systems and we are not implementing CHARM, Service Desk or any other functionalities. I would like to know how to proceed with utilising the Dev and prod Solution manager systems for acheiving the above. I would like to get some suggestion on which system should be used to configure the EWA and monitoring. These are the two scenarios that I am considering and would like some suggestion on.
    Scenario1:
create Dev Landsacpe & Solution for Dev systems in SOD and Prod Landsacpe & Solution for Production systems in SOP
Turn on EWA and Diagnostics for Prod system in SOP
    Scenario2:
create Dev Landsacpe & Solution for Dev systems in SOD and a master landscape and solutions for all the systems (Dev& Prod) in SOP. Turn on EWA and Diagnostics for Prod systems in SOP
What are the pros and cons for the above options ? Is there any other better options ?
NOTE: We do not have PI(or XI) and have no other Landsacpe config except for BI systems which have been installed as a local SLD. Our R3 4.7 and SCM are on SAP BASIS 620. The idea is to turn on EWA and monitor only the production systems. We are not implementing any Business Solutions in Sol Man system.
    Thanks

This is the SAP recommended way to create your solutions. All Dev Systems into one solution and All PRD systems into a separate solution.
check this note 1257308 for EWA FAQs.

  • Opening a db environment and preventing corruption?

    Greetings,
Sorry for the long post, but I’m having some problems and I’m not sure where to even begin. I also have a deadline looming and many people looking to me for fixes.
I’m working on a project and we’re trying to use the BDB for looking up data (read only tables). Things run fine when testing one process, but in production there will need to be 20 or more processes, and we cannot keep any of them running very long due to environment file corruption. Also, the processes do have some known memory leaks and crash occasionally, this problem cannot be corrected at this time and must be worked around (currently the processes are all terminated and restarted nightly).
    1. How should the environment be set up / opened per process? Currently each process has code that calculates the environment cache size (based on calculations from the docs) and opens the databases (currently 15 .db files). Is this the correct method? Should every process perform all the environment settings, or should an existing environment be checked for first somehow? Every process has code that calls:
    db_env_create()
set_cachesize(<size calculated to be large enough for all .db files>)
    open(DB_CREATE | DB_THREAD | DB_INIT_MPOOL)
Each database is opened with DB_RDONLY | DB_THREAD options.
    2. The environment cache size is calculated to be large enough to hold all the .db files in memory (currently about 1.08G), will that RAM be shared between processes, or does each process need the physical RAM available?
    3. I have noticed that processes compiled with debugging symbols modify the environment such that when you try to run a program compiled with optimizations (and no debugging symbols), the program will hang trying to open the environment. Is this to be expected?
    4. Once the environment files are created (currently any process that starts will create the __db.* files if they do not exist), it is possible to mark them read-only in an attempt to prevent corruption? We are only using the database files for read-only access.
Once the environment files are corrupt, there are generally two types of problems we encounter. One is when a process is trying to start and fails because the environment or a database cannot be opened:
In bdbdb_open(), DB->open(bdb_ru_rule.db) failed: Not enough space
unable to allocate memory for mutex; resize mutex region
The other problem is that a currently running process will just hang. This is a stack trace:

    Hi Matthew,
I will try to answer your questions.
    1. How should the environment be set up / opened
    per process?
As documented in the flags section here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkele
    y-db/db/api_c/env_open.html
You should open the process you want to create the
environment with all of the configuration settings.
Then each subsequent environment open should be done
    with no flags set.
Is there a way to detect if the environment is already opened so the first process that starts can open the environment with flags?
What about the settings done with function calls between env->create() and env->open(), like setting the cache size? Should those be skipped as well if another process already has the environment open?
What if the __db* files already exist, then does the first process still need to open the environment with flags set, or are the environment's settings stored in the __db* files directly?
    3. I have noticed that processes compiled with
debugging symbols modify the environment such that
when you try to run a program compiled with
optimizations (and no debugging symbols), the program
will hang trying to open the environment. Is this to
    be expected?
There is a slight distinction here. There are two
different flags (called slightly different things
    depending on your platform).
Environments are not compatible if they have
    different diagnostic settings. Diagnostic mode
    (--enable-diagnostic using configure, or DIAGNOSTIC
preprocessor define in a Visual Studio project).
You can do a debug build without diagnostics enabled.
On systems using configure, just build without
--enable-diagnostic. On Windows, alter the Debug
project build files to remove the DIAGNOSTIC
    pre-processor define.
Sorry for not being more clear, I was referring to the application I'm writing, not compiling the BDB. For example, if I compile with -g (Solaris CC) and run the process, then recompile with -xO4 (and remove -g), then the process will not be able to open the environment and will either terminate with an error or hang in the mutex lock.
    >
    5. In bdbdb_open(), DB->open(bdb_ru_rule.db)
    failed: Not enough space
unable to allocate memory for mutex; resize mutex
    region
If you are encountering this problem, you should read
the reference guide section on configuring Locking.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkele
    y-db/db/ref/lock/max.html
    6. [2] __db_pthread_mutex_lock(0x10bd08, 0x2d798,
    0x2118000, 0x1c8, 0x10c190, 0x0), at 0xfdd11fac
Are you running deadlock detection? Is it possible
that a process has died while holding locks open on
    the database?
I currently do not have deadlock detection enabled for two reasons:
    1. All the databases are opened as read-only, so why is any locking happeneing? In the C-API docs for env->open(), the DB_INIT_LOCK description specifically says: "If all threads are accessing the database(s) read-only, locking is unnecessary."
    2. When I find processes that have failed waiting on some mutex, running db_stat does not indicate that any processes are deadlocked and running db_deadlock hangs.
    Thanks,
    Matthew

update : so after reading numerous posts, I tried unchecking entire playlist and just tried one of my playlists. That sync seemed to work, so I rechecked entire playlist and did the sync. It worked. Then I went in to my "walk to work" playlist and added some songs to see if it would sync now, and it did!!! so happy now. will see what happens tomorrow.

  • Create EWA Reports without saprouter connection

    Dear Experts,
Please clarify, can Early Watch reports be created for satellite systems without saprouter connected to solution manager system.

    Hello Sunil,
For EWA reports connection to SAP router is necessary.
so if you have a saprouter connection from satellite systems, then also you can generate EWA reports
for this Solution manager is not necessary
You can do this by configuring EWA reports using t-code SDCCN in your satellite system

  • Enable Diagnostics- Examine without having to enter APPS password

    Hello All,
We have 11.5.10 installed. In the ToolMenu, I need to enable Diagnostics-> Examine, for certain users so that they do not need to enter the password for APPS. How can this be done?
    Thanks
    PHK

You can enable examine at the user profile option, I do not recommend granting this and it is against Oracle Apps Security best practices. This allow those users to change data and those changes are not validated. That being said, I've been at places where customers were adamant about granting to certain users.

  • EWA for Business Objects (XI 3.1) within SAP Solution Manager

    Hello!
We use Business Objects (XI 3.1) and would like to get weekly a EWA report within our SAP Solution Manager.
Our SAP Solution Manger has only ABAP stack and it has the SPS version 25.
We also do not use Wily Introscope/Diagnostics and E2E tools within SAP Solution Manager.
    Question
Is it possible to set up EWA for Business Objects with our requirements (SOLMAN with ABAP stack and without E2E/Diagnostics tools)?

    Hello,
The short answer is no. You can verify this in SAP Note  1507629  - Preparing a BOE system for Service Sessions in Sol. Manager.
    "...1.) Managed System Setup
Perform the Managed System Setup for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise as
described in the "End-to-End Root Cause Analysis System Landscape Setup
Guide". This guide can be found in the SAP Service Market Place:
    -> http://service.sap.com/diagnostics
-> Navigate to the "Media Library"
-> Open the document "SAP Solution Manager Landscape Setup Guide"
Please ensure that you perform all steps mentioned in the guide which
are relevant for your product and version. Please read also SAP note
1357901, which is also referred to in the above mentioned setup guide."
So this is a requirement. There are also pdf documetns attached to this note  that describe how to setup the EWA in Solution Manager. EGI_SBOP_EWA_part1.pdf and EGI_SBOP_EWA_part2.pdf.
The fact you have no Java stack and have not installed Diagnostics, just means it has not been done. It can be done and then you can do a managed system setup, and the balance of tasks required to prepare the system and Solution manager to generate EWA reports for the BOE system. Its just more work, not a show stopper.

    Paul

  • NW CE 7.2 - EWA?

OK I've installed SAP Netweaver CE 7.2.
and configured the (also installed) Diagnostics Agent to connect with my SolMan system.
I ran RCA Managed system wizard...
To my surprise, no EWA task was created.
My SolMan is SPS 22.  Diagnostics configured.
Is CE 7.2 EWA support in a future SP level? Future SolMan release (aka 7.1)?
Or is CE just not supported for EWA (as non-ABAP)?
    I have non-ABAP EWA working for NW 7 java, SM 7 w enh 1 (7.01) and PI 7.1 w Enh 1 (7.11).
What about Wily agent?  Is there an agent for SAP JVM 6 yet?
    Ken

One of the above note (or a referred note) explains the EWA task gets created when the system is added to the solution landscape. So armed with the knowledge that EWA should work for CE 7.2, I went into SMSY Tab System groups and Logical compomponents > Solution Landscape (not Logical Components! this was my mistake.).  I deleted the logical component containing the reference to my CE system, saved, then re-added the same logical component.  Presto! The EWA task was created again.  My mistake was I needed to recreate the system entry so I edited the logical components to remove the system reference, deleted the system, let Landscape_fetch recreate the system entry, readded the system to its logical components, all without (seeming) to touch the solution landscape.  This resulted in no EWA task.:(
(fyi I deleded the system entry because an earlier landscape_fetch had added a nonexistant abap instance).
I re-ran managed system wizard which created the extraction stuff for this system.  Monday there should be some sort of EWA report.
The only problem the wizard had was in mucking with te SAPSUPPORT userid ... it doesn't figure out the UME engine uses a backend abap system, and fails to find a local record for SAPSUPPORT.. but not effecting EWA.
    Thanks guys! points awarded...

  • EWA Report of EP server

    Hi,
I want to generate EWA Report of my Enterprise Protal server in my Solution Manager server.
Fot that I had install SMD in my Solman server and SMD & wily Introscope in my Enterprise Portal server.
Now can you please guide me which next steps is require so that  I can genetate EWA report in solman?
    Regards,
    Nisit

Once you have installed the agents on the satellite system and performed the other steps pertaining to the agent, you need to define the EP system in Solution Manager in SMSY with all the necessary details.
If the system information is already updated through SLD, verify whether the information maintained is correct and up to date.
    Then execute the SOLMAN_SETUP steps.
Ensure that the SMSY details are correct as it plays an important role pertaining to the system information and the further setup of Diagnostics/Wily.
Verify whether the EP system has appeared in your Solution Manager Workcenter SID list.
Execute the setup wizard for managed systems, ensure that the setup is complete without any errors. If any errors, resolve them and ensure that the setup results are Green.
Execute the IS Agent setup for the satellite SID.
EWA reports will be successfully scheduled once all these steps are executed successfully and when the EP system is added in a Solution.
    Hope this helps.
