EWQLSO platinum (plus) PLAY and Logic 8?

Since EastWest released their PLAY engine for EWQLSO yesterday I figured that there must be a few people that already have the thing installed
So, does it work like it should? Are there any annoying bugs?

I have a copy on order but have not received it in the UK yet.
Contrary to the previous caller, I think its use could be VERY pertinent part of the LOGIC forum.
Logic's lack of RAM usage is very irritating for high end users. PLAY could be many Logic users saviour ........ a plugin that allows us to make full use of the latest Mac Pro machines capabilities by accessing full use of RAM would be a great help. I'm bored of finding "running out of memory" error messages when I have 6 gig of RAM doing nothing and all I've done is put 2 gig of samples in Kontakt!
I'm also beginning to wonder if EXS24's "will use all available RAM" is urban myth. When Kontakt has filled the RAM allocation for Logic ....... EXS also gives "no memory available" messages?
Is there anyone out there whose managed to fill their Mac Pro 32 gig with EXS samples?
So hey there Dutch Alex ...... let's exchange notes when we're up and running with PLAY to check on how it's hopefully helping out with a severe Logic limitation.

HT4561 I have an iMac (2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) and recently updated to OSX10.6.8. At first things worked as before, but suddenly a bunch of applications are not working; including videos wont play in any browser, plus Skype and Logic Pro won't work

Recently updated to osx10.6.8. Was fine at first, but now have problems with various applications freezing/hanging.
These include Skype and Logic Pro.
In addition, cannot play videos (including YouTube and BBC) on Firefox (my usual browser), Safari or Chrome.
Application becomes frozen, and I eventually get an 'unresponsive script' message.
With Firefox I have tried clearing the cache. My Flash is upto date.
These are all the apps I use everyday, and this is driving me crazy. Can't seem to find answers on line. Very grateful for any help or advice.

Hi Guys,
I just bought EWQLSO Platinum and am about to purchase a new mac mini as a node machine. anyone has any experience with this? I heard somewhere that 3rd party plug-ins can't be noded. can anyone verify this?

Well, I run a lot of Logic plugs on my tracks. In combination with freezing you can get very far unless you use only EXS and 3rd party plugs.
There is plenty of reasons or situations that this would be valuable. Say you want several Space Designers, Sculptures, ES2... You can spend less time waiting for a freeze and balancing all that out ahd just continue working.
It's very useful for many users.

Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Plus DAE (RTAS in Logic not supported)

Hey folks,
I've been looking at East West Symphonic Orchestra on sale. I'm fairly new to buying libraries so I'm not sure what they mean in the system requirements section that states: DAE (RTAS in Digital Performer and Logic) is not supported at this time. How does this affect the use of the library? If you currently run Logic, do you like this library? Same say they don't like the PLAY interface. Any thoughts please. Thanks, Noolis

DAE and RTAS are both formats for Pro Tools, if you're running Logic you don't have to worry about either. Their plugin comes in AU (Audio Unit) format so it's compatible with Logic.
The library content is decent, at this point it's not as up to date as newer libraries (no true legato, fewer round robins and velocity layers than some newer libraries) but you get a lot at that sale price. I used it for years as my main orchestral library. Now I've replaced most of the sections but still use the brass and a few odds and ends from other sections. Be aware that the Gold version has the "mid" miic position which is pretty wet. Platinum has three mic positions, even the close one has a fair amount of room on it but it's drier than the Gold if that's something you need.
I'm not crazy about their PLAY player, it's still not 64 bit yet (and these libraries need a lot of memory). On mac it's not as CPU and memory efficient for me as Kontakt, doesn't load nearly as fast, and having to run it in the 32 bit bridge (when running Logic in 64) isn't that stable. It also lacks other features that other sampling plugins like Kontakt have like the ability to create your own keyswitches and otherwise tweak and edit things. From what I've read, it sounds like PLAY runs much better on windows and the biggest problems are on the mac side. Hopefully that will be improved in the future, they have said they are working on optimizing the software and will have a new release at some point.

It sounds like you are seeing some odd performance issues with Logic Pro X. I recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening:

Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Logic Pro X

Test using the computer's built-in audio hardware
If you use external audio hardware, try setting Logic Pro X to use the built-in audio hardware on your computer. Choose Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio from the main menu and click the Devices tab. Choose the built in audio hardware from the Input Device and Output Device pop-up menus. If the issue is resolved using built-in audio, refer to the manufacturer of your audio interface.
Start Logic with a different project template
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. If you use a template, damage to the template can cause unexpected results with any project subsequently created from it. To create a completely fresh project choose File > New from Template and select Empty Project in the template selector window. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
Sometimes, issues with the data in a project can be repaired. Open an affected project and open the Project Information window with the Project Information key command. Click Reorganize Memory to attempt to repair the project. When you reorganize memory, the current project is checked for any signs of damage, structural problems, and unused blocks. If any unused blocks are found, you will be able to remove these, and repair the project. Project memory is also reorganized automatically after saving or opening a project.
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.

Reinstall Logic Pro X
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Pro X. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application, then reinstall Logic Pro X. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Pro X. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Pro X.
In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate the Logic Pro X application and drag it to the trash.
Open the Mac App Store
Click the Purchases button in the Mac App Store toolbar.
Sign in to the Mac App Store using the Apple ID you first used to purchase Logic Pro X.
Look for Logic Pro X in the list of purchased applications in the App Store. If you don't see Logic Pro X in the list, make sure it's not hidden. See Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases for more information.
Click Install to download and install Logic Pro X.

I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. How do I get it to stop?

My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.

Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

After downloading and installing additional content, no sound will play. Logic has no connection to sound library. No level meter activity. Right before i installed additional content I was working on a project, and everything was OK.

A small update to this issue....
I have been trawling the forums to find an answer but to no avail...
And... I've tried exporting and bouncing individual stems and the full session, either by muting all bar the stem or soloing the stem.....and still nothing.
Same problems.....everything is audible in audition but nothing plays on playback.
Since the 'prelisten' channel strip is Solo safe this would indicate that you have a track or channel strip soloed somewhere else, out of sight. Are the Mute buttons on your channel strips blinking?
To view all objects in your mixer, click the button. You may have to scroll sideways to check the whole mixer.

Strange pops when pressing play and stop. Logic 9.1.3, Mac internal Sound

So I opened Logic for the first time in a while.
Logic Pro Version 9.1.3 (1697.87) 32bit.
Mac 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Mac OS 10.6.5
6GB RAM
I am using the internal Mac sound card, set up as follows :
Core Audio
Built In Line Output
IO Buffer Size 512
I am running ONE Mono audio track, with one Space Designer plug-In (mono>Stereo) inserted on the first insert slot.
There is nothing else playing back on this particular logic song.
Every time I press the spacebar for play or stop, I get a tiny delay, a pop, and then is starts, or it stops playing.
This is using the Macs' own internal sound card. With Logic's own Space Deigner, on ONE mono audio track.
SO, any ideas as to why this happens?
The only reason I opened Logic, was because I wanted to show a producer friend of mine some personal Space Designer presets I had made a couple of years ago, in case that was the type of ambience he is interested in using for a mix.
My plan was to use Logic as an effects suite, using a Motu 828mk3 conected via ADAT Lightpipe to my Pro Tools HD converter, to send and recieve 4 stereo sends and returns with 4 instances of Space Designer.
But, if Logic hiccups with the internal sound card... what will happen when I use the Motu? I dread to think about it, but will test it tomorrow.
At least I have two weeks to get this working or re-do my convolution reverbs in another plug-in (Waves IR1) that I can use in Pro Tools, in case Logic just does not work out.

The multi-purpose internal audio chips used in Mac's & PC's has some built in latency and seemes to default to a basic 16-bit 48kHz format. Any change from this and the chip has to change on the fly, I knew sample rate did this, makes sense bit depth might as well.
Some internal chips have a built in noise gate which can also cause a "thump". (rare)
Cheap or out-of-spec audio chips with a high DC offset will cause a pop when pressing "Play" and "Stop", as will an audio file that has a high DC offset.

I have itunes 12 and protected acc music files will to play- and computer wont authorize- 2 plus hour on phone w/ apple and no help.

Apple authorized retailer just transferred my data from "dead" late 2009 macbook pro to my new matchbook with retina. Now itunes12 will not play songs listed as protected acc files that i bought from iTunes. so i know what that term means but spent over two hours on he phone with apple trying to resolve with no luck but the rep swears they should play and the protected part is not the issue. Songs were purchased when i had a pc ( he said thats not the issue) and i had no issues with previous computer playing them. Also when i try to play them now it prompts mo to authorize the computer and it will NOT let me . (not sure if its b.c they were bought when iTunes let you use a user name only and not needing @ .....email address.) And i dont have the password and cant get it though find my apple id b/c its not really a true apple id- tried adding the @ and my email but tray did not work.
SO , 1. Anyone else have this issue or suggestions on what to do?
2. was told i need to find old password to authorize computer but cant , as i said , find it though apple id site.....so have no clue whist to do .... already spent 20.00 repurchasing some out of frustration.
This came to my attention when i tried to since my phone and was told id loose 60 songs b/c computer not authorized- so i stopped and they play in the phone then tied to sync iPod and same issue but by accident pressed wrong key and lost songs off iPod that would play on that. so now they are on my purchased list and can see they were purchased with just a same / no address when i fog to about file.....any suggestions. help...please ...was already in the phone with someone various times for total of over 4 - 6 hours trying to fix multiple apple id issue so i could at least back up my phone which is dying so when i get new one if anything goes wrong i have my picts. and music backed up to computer.
3.last issue - was told by one person that now i have to either do family share b/c of songs bought with different id's(at that point dint know about first issue but knew i had used @me and @ mac by accident to buy songs and was told they now would not play if i was not signed in with the id it was purchased with?? is that true?
b/c i have play list for my car that have songs from both ids .....so hen said that would be an issue ? its not now on my phone (old 3GS) they all play.
any help one anything would be so appreciated! thanks- sorry for so may issues in one question. del free to ask more questions as what I've tried b/c i feel I've done everything they they told me on phone multiple times and cant get any answers. or get stuck back in loop of need to authorize computer and cant and dante get apple id from forgot password b/c it only gets to second step and then says info is not correct?

Track automation with EW Quantum Leap Platinum Orchestra PLAY edition...

I have Snow Leopard and Logic Pro 9- I use EW Quantum Leap Platinum Orchestra PLAY edition. I would ask on the EW Quantum Leap site also, but I cannot post for some reason...
In track automation it has the option to change the volume in that specific instrument and MIDI channel, but for some reason, it is picking up the other track automation???
I checked all the MIDI channels and everything seems to be set correctly... any information is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I have been hitting the credit card recently. Last year I bought a Sony Vaio because I couldn't justify all that money when the new line of MBP's finally came out. Sold it 10 months later - they are meant to be a great build quality? Don't think so!
So, 3 or 4 weeks ago I bought a 13" MBP for browsing and a little mixing with Logic - works nicely - until I start hammering it - but it's good for learning.
Anyway - this new iMac replaced my old 21" 2007 model - wow What a dream!
But you know what I always like, every time I open up one of these boxes? The smell! What is it with Apple? Do they spray something in the box? I think they do!
As for how the migration went - pretty good.
Right now though I still have OS and apps on the 256gb SSD and all the data is now on the 1TB HD. Works so well that I don't know whether there is any point in changing it to be honest. I'm sure I could improve read speed by putting all the logic samples on the SSD but I have over 350gb of them so not sure there's much point!

EW Hollywood Strings and Logic issues

I've just bought EW Hollywood Strings and when I try enable it in Audio unit manager is keep coming up with Validation crashed. What am I doing wrong?

Uninstall everything (EWQL and Hollywood) and reinstall just the PLAY Audio Unit. Then load Logic and authorize with your iLok or over the net, then close Logic and install Hollywood strings.
I did this with Platinum Pro, what caused it for me was installing PLAY with Logic open at the time.

Problems with Presonus Firestudio and Logic

I am having problems with compatability with my brand new Presonus Firestudio recording interface and Logic pro 8. I am new to logic but not to home recording, and i cant understand what might be the problem. When i use the firestudio with garageband it works easily. In the garageband sound preferences there are input AND output channels that the user can define. (i.e. you can set your input channels to come from the firestudio while the output channels go to the computer speakers or headphone jacks or whatever you define it as).
From what i have seen in logic, there is only one option for your audio settings. when in preferences and under audio, there is a "device" setting in which you can define your audio device. Wheather this is input AND output for the program, i do not know. but the problem i am experiencing is that whenever i choose the firepod as the input device, no sound from logic will play from the speakers whatsoever. My first thought was that maybe ouput was going straight to the firestudio, but after plugging headphones into it this also did not work. Has anyone had success getting their firestudio to work in logic? if so let me know what settings you had to use, and how you got to moniter your input from from the firestudio via your computer.
p.s.
another WIERD problem i have run into, is that if i shut off the firestudio while logic is open, alot of times it will shut down my whole computer. i have never heard of this happening. what am i doing wrong?

I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard, and am having difficulties with my PreSonus Firestudio Project thru Logic and Mainstage. I can get audio input and output just fine, but there's a ton of distortion/crackle. Kickstarting the sample rate seems to clear it up for a minute or two, but then the crackle comes back. The recorded tracks sound clean if I unplug the Firestudio, so apparently it's only in the monitoring stage?
On the PreSonus board, they're claiming it's Apple who needs to update drivers for Leopard; PreSonus says the "Firestudio Project is Leopard compatible."

Can Express 9 play and record multiple instruments at the same time?

I have logic express 9 and was told with my interface that I can play and record different instruments at the same time on Express 9. Is this true because I have spent a long time trying to figure out how.

to record multiple Inputs at a time, open up the appropriate number of audio tracks. Now for each track, select the correct Input in the Channelstrip.
Now, ARM all these tracks for recording by clicking the little red R in the track header or channelstrip. Now if you hit record, all these tracks should record simultaneously their respective inputs.
All other existing tracks should playback while recording.

Hassle getting old logic tunes to play on logic pro 8

hi all.. i am a 1st time user of logic pro 8.. but this is not the problem. the problem is that i have some songs a band i was in in 2000 recorded on an external hard drive. the tracks were recorded on a G3 mac on emagic logic 4.somthing .. i do not and never did have that logic system. the studio closed a few months after we recorded there but i got the guy to zap all my bands stuff onto another hard drive and bought it from him for later use..ah ha now heres the problem.. i connect up the external drive and logic 8 tells me that its not compatible. all i can play is segments of individual instruments, none together and no full songs. it just says i need logic 7.2.1 to read it.. is there any way around this or do i have to buy and load another version of logic just so i can get logic to recognise it.??? i do not have access to any serial numbers or XSKey dongles from the older logic version the songs were recorded on so i cant just update software or somthing like that as i dont have the software to update just songs that were recorded on it. its kinda like i need to downgrade so i can upgrade.. wierd...but in any case if there is any1 out there that can advise me on what i will need to do, buy or download to fix this problem so i can complete these recordings( even if it is only for 3 people...lol) it would be greatly appreciated... alot time ,effort, soul , hardwork and arguements went into recording them so it would a waste and a shame to noy be able to finish them... thanks for any help you can offer...HENDRIX666

1- put your songs on a hard drive
2 - take them to someone's place ( house or nearby studio etc ) who has Logic 7.
3 - Open them all in logic 7 and save them as new L7 files on your portable hard drive
4 - Take them home and they will open in L8
