EWSMac? Recovered Files that appeared in garbage

Good day.
About a week or so ago, when I started up my computer, there was a Recovered File(s) in the trash called "EWSMac".
Normally I take a look at what the recovered file(s) is, and then re-empty the trash to erase it. I don't know what EWSMac is, though. So I put it out of the way in a folder for the time being.
The next day when I started up my computer, there was another Recovered File in the trash called "EWSMac", and not the file/folder that I put out of the way.
Again, I put it out of the way in the same folder as the other one.
A few days later, when using Yahoo! Messenger, I noticed that the name of Yahoo! Messenger when open, was no longer Yahoo! Messenger, but EWSMac.
So I am confused. And I have no idea what EWSMac is.
This is a screenshot of my desktop with a few EWS folders open [ http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/8882/desktopno4.jpg ]
This is a screenshot of the menu bar with Yahoo! Messenger open, with EWSMac as its name [ http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/995/yahootj8.jpg ]
My questions
- Is something messed up in the computer, which made it attempt to delete the EWSMac files that I did not know existed and did not try to delete?
- Is it possible that somehow the computer has been compromised via this EWSMac thing taking over Yahoo! Messenger?
- Is this a problem?
- Is it okay to delete the EWSMac files? or are they an integral part, of part of the computers' OS?

Hi, - Ø®£Z -.
The EWSMac files in Recovered Items in the Trash is the result of you having installed an application that uses an the eSellrate Embedded Web Store (EWS) code for Mac for shareware licensing and payment. See this page or this post for details.
As to your questions (numbers correspond to the order in which you posted them: when asking multiple questions, it helps to number them):
1. No. The appearance of the EWSMac files in Recovered Items in the Trash is a known issue with the eSellrate licensing and payment component cited above. The framework itself is installed as noted in the post cited above.
2. I doubt it, i.e. not in the sense of a virus or equivalent security threat. However, what you're seeing there with Yahoo Messenger is anomalous. More detail would be required to try to pinpoint why that's happening.
3. You can empty the Trash if they're in the Trash as part of Recovered Files. Deleting the framework from /Library/Frameworks may cause problems with shareware you have purchased that relies on the framework for licensing. A component related to the framework also is usually embedded within applications that use eSellrate for purchase and licensing.
Good luck!

Nope, it either needs to be plugged in or turned on with the power button.
A replacement iPhone 4 is $149, but at least the whole phone is replaced.

  • Recovering files that have been emptied from the trash

Is ther any way to recover files that you have sent to the trash, which you have subsequently emptied? Third party software? I accidentally trashed my entire iphoto library.
    B&W G3   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

If your photo library is on your startup volume, and if you've continued to use the startup volume since deleting the files, then your chances of recovery may be very small. Once files are deleted the operating system may use the space occupied by the deleted files when it writes new data to the drive. The more new data written to the drive the greater the probability that your old files will be overwritten. Once overwritten they cannot be recovered.
If you hope to maximize recovery then you need to immediately shut the computer off or boot from a different drive and stop using the drive on which the deleted files are located.

Hello DrVikashShukla, It appears the HP Recovery Restore disk are not available now for your system.
Here  is the link for the software/drivers for your system and it shows there are no Recovery Restore disk available.
Most of the HP system released earlier than 2006 do not have any Recovery Restore disks available.
You might try restoring the system, by tapping the F-11 key when the HP Logo appears, or the F-10 key. Some systens use different keys to access the HP Recovery Restore Utility.

  • Can you recover files that were deleted?

Hi everyone, is there anyway to find files that were deleted about 2-3 months ago? I don't have timeline and carbonite does not show the files either so they have to have been deleted over a month ago. I am a photographer and cannot find a clients session and I am afraid it was deleted...
    Thanks,
    Jayme

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
Unfortunately, after such a long time, if the drive has been in use then the space occupied by the deleted files has most likely been overwritten by new files making the old ones unrecoverable.

  • Trying to recover  files that are m2v and aiffs

I've experienced my first external hd crash, and the only files i've left of several pieces are separated m2v and aiff that had been made for DVD StudioPro. I'm trying to recover those files so that I can remake masters, and I'm having a heck of a time. Can anyone help?? These are my student films and I can't afford to loose them. [email protected]

  • How do you recover files that were put in the trash before you emptied your trash?

Before realizing that I had saved my research paper under downloads rather than documents, I put all my downloaded files in the trash and emptied my trash. How can I recover this file? I appreciate all the help I can get! I have spent the last five hours editing this paper :/

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the file is recovered or you choose not to recover it.

  • Recover files that are in SD card trashes?

Is there a way to see and recover what is in the trash on an SD card.? There are audio files on the card, which I thought were lost, but when in the recorder (it's an Olympus dictaphone) the files are there in trashes. When I put the card into my mac, I cannot see them or access them.

    I don't understand why I can't get to it.
You can't get to it because the files were deleted on another electronic device that was not an Apple Mac.
E.G If you take a photo with a camera and then delete the photo, and then connect the camera to your Mac, it won't show anything in the trash. It won't indicate there is a deleted photo on the camera's card. This is becuase the camera deleted the photo, not the Mac.
You mention Windows so it sounds like the client is interacting with his device on a windows machine, which is a different operating sytsem to an Apple Mac which can further complicate things.
If the client deleted some audio files on his Olympus DS 2500 dictaphone, tell him to recover them using the same device on his Windows machine, because that is the machine the dictaphone is connected to, not your Mac.

  • How do I recover files that have been deleted but were not in trash

I was just going through my files and deleting old ones but once I had emptied the trash a number of other files are now gone.
These files were not selected and were not even in the trash folder, but they are still gone.
Any idea on how this happens and if its possible to recover them? They were not overly important but its still an inconvenience. And no they were not backed up. All constructive suggestions welcome. Cheers

Recover them from your Time Machine backup.  If you don't have a Time Machine backup then now is a good time to create one.  You could lose files or the entire disk at any time.  Your data is much more valuable than the $75 hard drive you will need for a Time Machine backup.

  • What is an unix executable file that appeared in my folder?

    HI,
In my folders structure I have a folder named "jobs: where I put my working files etc.
Yesterday inside the "jobs" folder I found a file with the same name "jobs" , its icon is dark gray and it is a "unix executable file" with zero bytes...
    How was it created there?
I think I did a permission repair this week, but this is the first time I see a Unix exec file ...

    ** folder named "jobs:" **
When I tried to create a folder with that name, the Finder told me that the name was not valid. A colon in a Mac file or folder name used to be a bad idea. I guess it still is. I'd rename that folder to exclude the colon.

  • Recover files that were backed up before recovering to factory standard HP Envy 17

I thought my d drive wouldn't be touched by recovery->factory  procedure, so I lost my d: drive with music, pictures and film, but it seems they were backed up by the program prior to the recovery to factory setting procedure. How do I recover those files? It's not clear to see where you do it in the recovery manager.

  • How to rename files that appear in multiple .book files?

I have about 50 .fm files, and 4 .book files, each of which includes about 20 of the .fm files.
I want to rename some of the files.
If I open all four .book files at once, and I go to First.book and rename file Q, I want it to be renamed in all the other .book files in which it happens to be included.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks.

You have to rename the file in each book that it is included in. After the first re-name, the other books will treat the old filename as a missing one.

  • How do I get rid of random "AI Temp" files that appear on my desktop?

I am accumulating random AI Temp files on my desktop which do not open and cannot be removed. Where are they coming from and why can't I get rid of them? I would would appreciate any suggestions as to how to eliminate this nuisance.

I really don't know what causes the problem. I have had it myself occasionally when saving to a server, but in that case the temp files could always be trashed and deleted.
You can try this though, it might work:
Quit Illie and trash the temp files. Empty trash. See what happens after you have restarted Illie and used her for a bit.
If the problem persists, do the same again and reboot your machine.
If this still doesn't do the trick, quit Illie and trash your Illustrator Preferences (the whole folder and its contents).
Restart Illie and see if things have mended themselves.
You never know your luck :-)

  • Recover file that is on print queue?

I spent about 5 hours typing something yesterday, thinking that I was saving as I worked. As it turns out, I was clicking the little picture of a printer, not the one of a disk. (This is in Microsoft Word.) So the final draft of the file got added to the print queue, but never saved. I can't find a temp file of it, and my computer didn't crash so there's no autorecovery file.
I don't have a printer so it didn't print. Is there a way to get the file from the print queue and save it as a Word file?
(I don't have access to the default printer that it's on the queue for either.)

When you closed the file, I think Word should have asked you if you wanted to save the file or not. If you didn't I'm pretty sure you can't get it back. Check the list of recently saved files, they're at the bottom of Word's File menu.
If you double-click your printer in the printer list, you will get a dialog containing a list of "Active" and "Completed" jobs, but this list only gives the names of the files you printed. Unfortunately, this is just a list of names, it can't actually show you where those files exist.
Let me know if this helps

  • How can I recover file that are on my external hard drive but not showing up on mac?

I have copied pictures and home videos from an old hard drive to my newer, larger hard drive. And now, i can't see any of the videos when i open my Seagate 4TB BackUp Plus drive on my mac. Someone Plz save me!!!!!

    Open Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities.
    Check format for the Seagate.
I'm guessing you didn't format the drive for Mac.
You might need to reformat. This will erase all contents on the drive. After reformatting, go back to the old drive and copy over the files again.
Format the external drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - Partition Map Scheme: GUID
