Exact Printing of a PDF File (no scaling)

We create forms as PDF's that we publish on our WEB site.  We also have vendors that produce the same documents with 2D barcodes as PDF's.  We scan/image the returned doucuments and run OCR, ICR and 2D interpretation of data.  When the public prints the documents in Adobe Reader with scaling set to none (or actual size in Reader X), everything is fine.  The issue is when the the users leave the size option set to something other than none or actual.  We have margins over 1/2 inch on all sides and the pages will always scale.  This moves the exact positioning of the fixed print documents and shrinks the 2D barcodes to where they are unreadable.  We have the page scaling set to none in the document itself but of course the user can always override.
I have been told that if you change the size of the page to something less than 8 1/2 by 11, you can prevent the scaling.  I have played with this and found that what works best for a laser printer is different than what works with an inkjet.  Does anyone know a size that will prevent scaling on the most printers?
Is there any other way to prevent a PDF document from scaling?  I have even created a PDF with one word in the middle of am 8 1/2 by 11 page and it will still scale.
Thanks,
Dave

Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter.  We already set the pagescaling to none in the document, but it appears that people like to override this setting.
(Optional; PDF 1.6) The page scaling option to be selected when a print dialog is displayed for this document. Valid values are None, which indicates that the print dialog should reflect no page scaling, and AppDefault, which indicates that applications should use the current print scaling. If this entry has an unrecognized value, applications should use the current print scaling. Default value: AppDefault.   Note:  If the print dialog is suppressed and its parameters are provided directly by the application, the value of this entry should still be used.

Why does a mail-merge in MS Publisher split into multiple files when printed as a pdf file?

'Cuz that's what mail merges do.  They create multiple documents based on the parent doc and all the names/addresses in your data tables.

  • [Applet]Printing issue with pdf files on Xerox 4595

    Greetings !!
I'm trying to print to a Xerox 4595 printer from a Windows XP station (limited account) using a Java Web Applet.
This applet generates pdf files which have to be printed.
The Xerox 4595 uses a printing queue that is detected by the Applet.
The problem is the following: usually when printing a simple local file from this computer there is a box that asks you your login to let you create a job and then print.
When using the Java Applet, there is no way to have this print box displayed. We have the Java Print Dialog but once clicked on "Print" there is no box displayed to pass the login to the printer and let us print.
Is anyone already worked with Xerox 4595 and experienced such issue ?
How can I, using the Java language and modify the Applet, ask the printer to send me the dialog box asking for the login ? Without this login no jobs are accepted and we can't print the generated pdf files.
I looked on the printer queue settings and it seems that the Xerox uses the IPP to communicate with the local computers in the office.
The server from which the Applet is used is a openSuSE Linux Web server (apache2)
How come using Linux workstations any pdf files are printed (on shared printers such HP laserjet) and under windows there is jammed characters and sheet feed instead ?

A lot can depend upon which app your are using on your tablet device, the same applies to computer programs but apps are much worse.
    Which app are you using?
I would try the free Adobe Mobile Reader. This product seems to support more features than other apps.
There could even be issues with the type of tablet you are using. The Apple line may work better then Android devices since there is QA check and approval by Apple.
Another factor is the how the PDF was created.
How well are the maps displayed on your laptop or desktop? Try different values of zoom.

  • Used to be able to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one and then it stopped and would only print the curent page. This is tedious for long PDF docs. I am on 10.6.8 .

Used to be ablert to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one printer and now I can only print the current page and therefore it takes forever printing them one by one. I am in version 10.6.8. Tried printing as image using the advanced click and that did not work either.  I have Adobe 9.0 reader installed.

I tried this earlier, and I tried it again today.  Both times it said "Software Missing!"  and "HP Software required to connect to your printer over the network could not be found on this computer."  But when I tried to install the software (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe, which I downloaded from HP's web site), it wouldn't install, as described above.  In the diagnostic utility, I clicked "skip", and it said "Connection Verified!", and "The printer is connected to the network and the services related to the network connections have been verified and reset to a normal operating state.  Everything appears to work fine at this point.  Please doa test print to verify that the issue is resolved or click Skip to move to the next step."  I clickedthe "Test Print" button, and immediately it popped up a box that said "Test Print Failed."
I tried again to install the HP software, and it installed, detected the printer, and asked me to select it.  I selected the printer, clicked "next", and it did its network diagnostics.  Then it said "Problem(s) found with your network" and "Problem(s) may exist with the network functions of your printer . . ."  I continued the installation without connecting to the printer.  Then I ran your network printer diagnostic tool again, and got the same result - "HP Software required to connect to youir printer over the network could not be found on this computer."

  • Word v.X no longer printing or creating PDF files (specific to one user)

As of yesterday I cannot print from Word (v.X 10.0) documents or create PDF files from Word documents.
I can print by logging out and using a test user ID.
I can print after a safe restart (which disables many functions).
I am still able to print and create PDF files from Pages, Firefox and other programs.
When attempting to create a PDF from a Word file through the Print dialog box, then saving as PDF, I can see the "magnifying glass" image for the PDF briefly on the desktop, then it disappears.
Apple Care Phone Support refuses to deal with Microsoft issues (even though it appears to be a print command failing within Mac OS steps of the process, and/or a Mac OS-generated and sorted plist file corrupting the process).
Microsoft no longer supports the software (i.e., any file you are now using ending in .doc is no longer supported).
Has anyone had a similar problem or an idea about what to do with likely culprit files?

Sounds like a M$ problem to me.

  • Will not print anything but Pdf files!

If I try to print anything at all other than a PDF file from Adobe only(other readers will not even work) very little of the page prints if anything at all. For example, I was trying to print a shipping label off of the website, and the only thing that would print was the barcode. Nothing else. I actually had to convert it to a pdf file and open it with Adobe, and then it printed perfectly. I have tried reinstalling, restarting, using the HP support doctor, which says absolutely nothing is wrong with my printer. I am at a loss to why it will only print pdf files from Adobe. Can anyone please help me?! I forgot to mention it worked perfectly about a month ago. We don't print a whole lot and didn't notice it was messed up until just a few days ago.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that when printing from your Windows 8.1 computer to your HP Deskjet 1512 All-in-One Printer, nothing is printing, except Adobe PDF files. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, you indicate in your post that you had tried to print a shipping label from a website, and only the barcode prints. However, if you open the file up and print it from Adobe it appears to print fine. This leads me to believe that the actual issue that is occuring is a print system issue with the black cartridge. I know it may come as a surprise to hear that as Adobe is printing fine. However, when you print from certain programs on your computer the file is sent to the printer as an 'image' file. If your printer 'thinks' it is printing an image it will use a mixture of colour ink and black to print the black document. Therefore, what you may actually be seeing when you print from Adobe is colour ink mixed. To start troubleshooting I am going to have you print a Quality Diagnostics Report from your printer and this will help us to isolate this printing issue. Please follow the steps below.  How to Print a Quality Report: Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.Press and hold the Power button. While holding down the Power button, press and hold the Cancel button. Hold them both down for 2 or 3 seconds. The test page prints. (1) Printed with the tri-colour cartridge(2) Printed with the black cartridge  If this Report prints perfectly: Then the printing issue that you're experiencing is not being caused by your products print system. Rather, there may be a driver conflict occuring between your Windows computer and your printer. Please do not proceed with troubleshooting at this time.  If this Report prints with missing black or other quality issues: Then the printing issue that you're experiencing is being caused by your products print system. To resolve this hardware issue can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please choose the Windows 8 dropdown. Next, follow the steps under Solution one, Solution five, Solution six, and Solution seven. This includes any sub steps under the listed Solutions to complete. Once troubleshooting has been completed please print another Quality Diagnostics Report to confirm if the issue has been resolved. Please respond to this post with the result of printing the Quality Diagnostics Report. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Printer filter to PDF file

    Hello everyone,
I wonder how to set up a printer filter to pdf file on JDS/Linux?
E.g OpenSuse 10 comes ready preconfigured with a printer filter to pdf file.
Not sure if it may be Ghostscript that is used for this setup.
Has any of you set up such a filter for JDS/Linux?
    Terje J. Hanssen

    A follow up:
Looks like this is a feature of the KDE KPrinter, as the pdf filter was found in KDE desktop printer KJobViewer. The OOo one that I am aware of, I would expect works only internally from OOo applications, while the Kprinter's to pdf file filter looks to be general available for all applications, if I'm right.
Tried also a Gnome login to OpenSuse, but didn't see the pdf file filter available for the "Gnome printer". Possibly can it be set up also here?

It depends where the pdf is located. If in the Finder or in an attachment to

  • How to save print setup for pdf file so that every user can open and print w/o manually performing?

Can is there a way to configure the print settings (i.e. paper size, orientation, etc.) and save this setting as part of the pdf file? I would like the users of pdf files to be able to open the file and simply print, without having to manually configure the print settings.

Not sure if this will help. I got this information from the built-in help under Acrobat 9.
    Advanced
Lists PDF settings, print dialog presets, and reading options for the document. In the PDF settings for Acrobat, you can set a base Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for web links in the document. Specifying a base URL makes it easy for you to manage web links to other websites. If the URL to the other site changes, you can simply edit the base URL and not have to edit each individual web link that refers to that site. The base URL is not used if a link contains a complete URL address.
You can also associate a catalog index file (PDX) with the PDF. When the PDF is searched with the Search PDF window, all of the PDFs that are indexed by the specified PDX file are also searched.
You can include prepress information, such as trapping, for the document. You can define print presets for a document, which prepopulate the Print dialog box with document-specific values. You can also set reading options that determine how the PDF is read by a screen reader or other assistive device.
    Create print presets
A PDF can contain a set of print presets, a group of document-specific values that is used to set basic print options. By creating a print preset for a document, you can avoid manually setting certain options in the Print dialog box each time you print the document. It’s best to define print settings for a PDF at the time that you create it, but print presets provide a means to add basic print settings to a PDF at any time.
Choose File > Properties, and click the Advanced tab.
In the Print Dialog Presets section, set options and click OK.
The next time you open the Print dialog box, the values will be set to the print preset values. These settings are also used when you print individual documents in a PDF Portfolio.
Note: To retain a print preset for a PDF, you must save the PDF after creating the print preset.
    Print Dialog Presets
    Page Scaling
Prepopulates the Page Scaling option in the Print dialog box with the option you choose:
    Default
Uses the application default setting, which is Shrink To Printable Area.
    None
Prevents automatic scaling to fit the printable area. This setting is useful for preserving the scale of page content in engineering documents, or for ensuring that documents print at a particular point size to be legal.
    DuplexMode
For best results, the selected printer should support duplex printing if you select a duplex option.
    Simplex
Prints on one side of the paper.
    Duplex Flip Long Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the long edge.
    Duplex Flip Short Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the short edge.
    Paper Source By Page Size
Selects the option by the same name in the Print dialog box. Uses the PDF page size to determine the output tray rather than the page setup option. This option is useful for printing PDFs that contain multiple page sizes on printers that have different-sized output trays.
    Print Page Range
Prepopulates the Pages box in the Print Range section of the Print dialog box with the page ranges you enter here. This setting is useful in a workflow where documents include both instruction pages and legal pages. For example, if pages 1–2 represent instructions for filling out a form, and pages 3–5 represent the form, you can set up your print job to print multiple copies of only the form.
    Number Of Copies
Prepopulates the Copies box in the Print dialog box. Choose a number from 2 to 5, or choose Default to use the application default, which is one copy. This limitation prevents multiple unwanted copies from being printed.
    Thanks.

  • Black&White printing of a PDF file

Please suggest how to modify printer settings so that a pdf file prints only black&white even though the printer attached could be a colour printer.

  • Printing an existing PDF file

I have been looking around everywhere to find a solution to this problem but just can't find anything. I am generating PDFs using iText. Once I have the file created I simply want to print it, which is apparently impossible without buying a 3rd party library.
Has anyone found a way to take an existing pdf file and send it to a specific printer.
To make it very clear (as in most other threads people don't seem to understand what the asker is actually saying)
    I have a file (C:\a.pdf)
My default printer is called "abc"
    I have a 2nd printer called "xyz"
I want to print C:\a.pdf to printer "xyz".
Currently I am printing via acrobat but it's crap. It refuses to close after printing which is the main problem and I don't want to look up the processes and kill it as this is nasty.
Surely someone, somewhere, has found out a way to say "print this file" from java! I don't care if it is a lot of code. I don't mind using an external library. It must work on windows, linux and crapple macs otherwise I'd just use FoxIt instead of acrobat.
I have experimented with MANY different methods. The one found here (http://juixe.com/techknow/index.php/2008/01/17/print-a-pdf-document-in-java/) seems to be the best, however, the first page in a PDF seems to print portrait regardless of whether or not it's portrait. All following pages are then landscape. It was almost an amazing solution! If anyone has any ideas on that it would be much appreciated

    Hi
I found jpedal on my searches but it's not an option due to the cost. Seems expensive considering all I want to do it send an existing PDF to a printer :S I really don't understand how it's so difficult to be honest. PDFRenderer on the dev.java.net site looks really promising but has a few issues. It doesn't seem to be active any more though which is disappointing.
I think I have solved the problems I was having with it. I will post here after I have done some testing to say exactly what I have done

  • What You see is not what you get when printing a adobe PDF file

Hi, we use adobe pdf files to send printing of maps to different customers. Quite often a pdf file looks Ok on the screen but printed on paper some lines is crossing the paper which should not be there.
It is easy to reproduce and seems to happen on different computers. Most of them use windows7. If we use another program than adobe for displaying and printing the same file the print is correct.
Is this a bug in print driver or in the Adobe reader which produce the data for the print driver. Most files is created by a thin print solution called UNIPRINT.

The text spacing also frustrates me, but I'm afraid is a drawback of the iWeb system. I always have to go back and re-tweak certain paragraphs that I try to squeeze into a smaller space. I've learned that it's best to allow for a little breathing room with the width and height of the text field. If the text field is exactly the width and height of your paragraph in iWeb, chances are the lines are going to bump down just a hair, creating an extra line of text which will decrease your line spacing if the height is also tight. Does that make sense?
As far as the hyperlinks go, I used to get freaked out because what I thought was the wrong formatting, but what I found out was just the formatting for having visited the linked site.
What iWeb does for those of us who don't know or don't care to mess with html code is an extremely complex process that I can't even begin to understand. And on top of that you add the relative unpredictability of the various browsers and systems that are out there. You have to roll with the punches and figure out these little discrepancies to get the finished product you want.
    Good luck!
