Exact way in writing a query

hi, i have a requirement in which i should develop a report in discoverer for the
employees elements and their pay.
As am new to discoverer, i want to put the steps which i'm going to implement infront of you.
1) I'am trying to create folders for the tables i need in my query using
discoverer administration.
2) I'am trying to build a relation between these table and build required parameters using discoverer desktop.
3) I'am going to save the worksheet and give the access to the required users.
Please tell me if i'am missing anything or doing something wrong.

Step 1 looks good
In Step 2, the folders get joined in the admin tool, but the report/query/workbook can be created in desktop
In Step 3, the report should be shared with the required users. You will also have to go back to the admin tool and make certain the users have access to the business area(s) used in the report. Users will also have to be able to access the actual database objects on which the folders are based. BA access and database acess can be done using roles, if desired.

    It is a bit unfair to compare the run time statistics of queries that only you can run. If you want people to be able to make suggestions that are more efficient you should
    A) State that is your requirement.
    B) Post table create scripts and sample data.
    Having said that you can try this
    select distinct test_descr_f
    from test_catalog a, parag_aktin b
    where a.test_code = b.exetasi
       and b.barcode = '090320061'It is certainly different, whether it is more efficient only you can know.

  • A better way to write last_day query

    Hi folks,
    I am looking for a better way to write a query to find last_day in month but if its sunday or holiday it should move to day before last day.
    So for example if 31 is sunday it should go for 30, if 30 is holiday it should move down to 29.
    I got this so far but the connect by level is hardcoded to 15. Want to see if there is a better way to get this working:

  • Problem in writing a query

    Dear all,
    I have a problem for writing a query,
    country: name,code,population.
    economy:country(code),gdp
    in the economy table i have gdp of each country, i calculated sum of the GDP of all countries and then half of it(50% of world GDP)
    then i should calculate the minimum population of the countries needed to have this 50% of GDP.
    here is what i wrote until now but i really don't have any more idea, if you help me i'll learn something.

  • Help in writing a query!

    Dear All,
    My database is 11gR2 on Linux.
    I am struck in writing a difficult query, need help from your guys.
    I have a table, an application is controlling the columns of this table. Columns are added by the application.
    This is the structure of the table:
    create table imran_test(
    2 username varchar2(100),
    3 layer1 number(1),
    4 layer2 number(2),
    5 layer3 number(2));
    -- where layer1, layer2, layer3.... are increased up to layer 22 and could be increased more...
    Now each username will have 1 in any one of the layer, and all other layers will have 0
    Like if I consider the above table this could be the sample data:
    imran 1 0 0
    hafeez 0 1 0
    james 0 0 1
    Now the result my query should return is:
    select username, <column name where value is 1> and value of it, as per sample data, this should be return by the query:
    imran layer1 1
    hafeez layer2 1
    james layer 3 1
    Note: Please remember the columns are not fixed, they are added/altered by application.

    The table design is incorrect as it is not in 3NF and has a repeating group
    You should correct the 'design' first or turn the layer... columns in a VARRAY.
    Also my feeling is you should change your subject line 'Help in writing a query!' in 'Write my query' as that is what you actually ask, and leave out the exclamation mark.
    Basically you dump everything in this forum, and being a bit less demanding might suit you better.
    Also you still act rude by not marking your questions as answered.

    I know when the input is minimal we have to use CALL TRANSACTION method in BDC and when we have batch of input files we have to use BDC Recording.
    My question is what is the exact way of doing BDC.

    Call transcation can handle only one Trasaction(Tcode).
    Session method can handle multiple transcations.  
    Before getting started with the Recording process...we have to know the transcation code. We do recording to record the screen number, screen values,  Button values(OK codes) ...etc
    For example...while recording we create a record using some t-code (Say MM01) ...Now, we will create a materail master record using the Recording process.
    Let us see the process of recoding a single record with MM01 using SHDB(A tool used to record the details of T-code)
    Go through these steps for recording by using SHDB.
    How to use recording :
    Go to SHDB
    --> Click on New Recording
    --> Provide any name in Recording , For ex: Z_CHAITU
    --> Provide the Transaction name as “MM01”
    --> Select the update mode as Synchrounous or Asynchrounus method
    --> Click on Start Recording button.
    --> It will display MM01 screen….type the appropriate
    information in it.
    --> Type the Material no as : 4567E (Any no, But there should b 1 Character in it)
    --> Type Checmical Industry in INDUSTRY SECTOR
    --> Type COUPONS in MATERIAL TYPE
    --> Now click on Select Views button.
    --> Select BASIC DATA 1
    --> Click on Ok button
    --> Under Basic data tab under Material, it will display the Material number.
    --> Type the short description and “Provide EA as Base Unit Of Measure”
    --> CLICK ON BACK AND IT WILL ASK U TO SAVE THE DATA, CLICK ON YES
    --> Again click on Back, it will ask if u wish to save the changes to record entries.
    -> Click on Yes
    --> Now, u will be in Initial screen
    --> Select the record and Click on Program button
    --> Now, provide any program name
    --> Now, select ‘Transfer from recording’
    --> Click on Tick mark
    --> Give some short description
    --> Type as Executable
    --> Click on Source Code button
    --> Automatically the code will appear in SE 38 program.
    U can try these steps with any T-code by knowing the Mandatory fields in it.
    ---> *Now by following all the above steps ur done with the recording process to create a single record in MAterail master (MM01).  Now, we use the same recording process and put this recording under Loop in report program.*
    So that, it will follow the same steps automatically to create materail master records from the flat file. If you have 10 records in flat file(Note pad) then it will do the same process for 10 times to upload 10 records from the flat file using the recoding process that we have done by using the SHDB
    If you want then i will provide you with the sample program to upload the data for MK01 using Call transcation and Session method.

    you can view the SQL from within the discoverer menu:
    in desktop: View-> SQL Inspector
    in Plus: Tools-> Show SQL
    The SQL in the DB tables is encrypted so it's a problem getting it from there.
    You can export the workbook into SQL but it is not working for every worksheet (subquery, inline pivot tables...)
    you can create a batch file to export them all using the output of this script:

    Umm, it's probably more suited to an array - effectively
    making it into a list of queries. You'd then loop the array and
    output each.
    I use a similar approach when creating system messages to the
    user. Most of my functions that are called do their bit, then at
    the end call another function I call "messages". This function
    grabs whatever my function sends and appends it to a messages
    array.
    This way enables me to output a long list of messages -
    because I could be calling several functions at the same time. If I
    just output a message from each function, each one would overwrite
    the other. So I'd get one message at a time.
    Immediately after it's output, I then destroy the message
    array so that old messages aren't kept inside of it.

  • Best way to submit a query recordset to a remote server

    I've been tasked with a project that will involve querying a table on one server, then sending the data to a remote server that will take the data and insert it into another database (the two db cannot communicate directly with each other.)
    I've never had to do something like this, before.  What is the best way to achieve the desired results?  Is there a way to "submit" a query (anywhere from 1 to 5 records at any given time) to the remote server without incorporating WDDX?

    It's kind of tedious, but what I've worked, so far, is to have CF1 select data from DB1, SerializeJSON the data, use cfhttp to POST the data to CF2.
    THEN, CF2 DeserializeJSON the data back into a query object and insert that into DB2.
    Unless you think there's a better way to do it?

    Hi all, I need some help writing a query for the following case:
    One Table : My_Table
    Row Count: App 5000
    Columns of Interest: AA and BB
    Scenario: AA contains some names of which BB contains the corresponding ID. Some
    names are appearing more than once with different IDs. For example,
    AA BB
    Dummy 10
    Me 20
    Me 30
    Me 40
    You 70
    Me 50
    Output needed: I need to write a query that will display only all the repeating names with their corresponding IDs excluding all other records.

    Is it possible to have a records with the same values for AA and BB? Are you interested in these rows or do you only care about rows with the same value of AA and different BB?
    With a slight modification of a previous posting you can only select those rows that have distinct values of BB for the same value of AA
