Exadata Database Machine two node servers reboot

Hi,
Good morning to all.
Would like to seek help in regards the problem that I have encountered and an error in running exachk on exadata database machine.  The problem I have encountered first is on Database Server node1 and node2, both server nodes when powered up and while OS OLinux is on boot process in the middle of loading devices for OLinux to recognize, the kernel panic appeared and the system automatically reboots.
I tried to copy the exachk file on storage and run exachk under user root but the error message appeared it advises me to run it on compute node.
command to run exachk under root server.
# ./exachk
For your kind further advise
Genesis

Hello Genesis,
If your database servers are unable to boot at all, I'd suggest addressing that part first.  This is really Oracle Supprot SR territory, but I'll try and offer a few suggestions.  Do you have the output on the kernel panic available?  One way of getting this would be to log onto the ILOM console, and capturing a screenshot of the window while the kernel panic output is on the screen.  Knowing which part of the kernel code the panic is happening may help identify a known issue with a simple fix.  Note 1538068.1 talks about an issue with LVM snapshots, for example, and also has instructions on how to do boot into a diagnostic image.  But again, this type of issue is best dealt with on an Oracle service request.
exachk itself doesn't run directly from storage servers, so hence the errors you see;  it needs to be launched from a database server.
HTH!

  • Exadata Database Machine X2-2

    Friends,
Our company is planning to invest in Oracle Exadata Database Machine. I have one query related to Database Licensing here.
Does the price we will pay for FULL RACK Exadata Database Machine Include:
    1) Oracle 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition
    2) Oracle ASM
    3) Oracle RAC
    4) Oracle RMAN
    5) Oracle DataGuard
    Anyother software component ?
Please let me know as I have seen document which says it does...but wants to know from guys like you who are using it at the moment :)
    Thanks
    KS

    Hello,
I have had the opportunity to work with Exadata at 2 companies.
You should theoretically get all of the options.
However with #5 on your list there will be an extra cost of you decide to use active dataguard.
If you plan on just keeping the standby up-to-date then you should be covered.
These are good questions you need to ask your Oracle Account Rep or a member of the ACS group who would do the actual installation.
For OEM you'll also be covered to use any of the grid control plugins specific to Exadata.

  • Exadata Database Machine & Third Party Products

Is there a document which lists out which Third Party Products are specifically allowed on the Exadata DB Machine? I am interested in CA Autosys, which is our enterprise scheduler.

There is no specific certification program for software on Exadata database servers, just a general recommendation to limit it to low-impact tasks like monitoring agents. Kernel-level modifications or third-party software on storage servers are not permitted.
I'm actually working on an Exadata implementation including AutoSys at the moment, and so far have found no problems with it.

  • Can I use the same database for two WSUS servers?

    Hi Folks,
Our HQ WSUS database is on a dedicated SQL Server 2008 in HQ. We are planning to set up a replica WSUS server in a branch office (centralized management mode). But we want to check the WSUS reports (e.g. computer/update status) only from the HQ instead
of each branch. I have two questions.
I should not install the SQL Server in Branch, and specify the HQ SQL Server as the Branch WSUS server database, right? In this case, I can check WSUS reports of both HQ and Branch from HQ, right?
Can I use a specific update source (e.g. Microsoft Update or other WSUS upsteam servers) for Branch WSUS server instead of HQ WSUS server even it's a replica WSUS server?
    Thanks,
    高麻雀

Regarding to "If the branch office server is intended to be a replica server, then it must be configured with the HQ WSUS server as the update source", does it mean my branch WSUS server is only able to get the patches from my HQ WSUS server?
That is the fundamental premise of a downstream replica server.
Isn't it able to get the patches from Microsoft Update or other WSUS servers?
Well, here we may have a terminology challenge... so let me take a step back and answer this way:
A WSUS server obtains *updates* via the process of synchronization. Updates can be synchronized from one of two sources: Microsoft, or an Upstream WSUS Server.
Additionally, updates have a concept of APPROVAL. Approvals can be obtained from an Upstream WSUS Server when the server is configured as a REPLICA server; otherwise, Approvals are created at each individual WSUS server.
Finally, updates have FILES. Files can be obtained from Microsoft or the Upstream WSUS server, and this configuration option is absolutely independent of where the updates and/or approvals come from.
Please note: All of this is exhaustively documented and discussed in the
WSUS Deployment Guide. I would highly recommend reading it cover-to-cover.
In this case, there will a a lot of bandwith cost on the leased line which is only 2Mbps and intended for critical business like VDI/ERP applications.
    A few thoughts here...
First a 2Mb/sec link is more than adequate to support a WSUS server downloading update files from an Upstream WSUS Server.
Second, using BITS you can configure when those files are transferred as well as how much of that 2Mb/sec is made available to the WSUS downstream server.
Third... Patch Management IS a critical business function. Do not let it be treated as a step-child or the VDI/ERP functionally will be irrelevant.
"after installing the replica server in the branch office, on the upstream server enable the option for Reporting Rollup", will the report information (computer/update status) be recorded in the HQ SQL Server?
The detail reporting data for the clients of the downstream replica servers is physically stored in the upstream server's database.

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle SOA 11.1.1.5 in a 2 Node Cluster. Both SOA Managed Servers are coming up fine. BAM Managed Server installed on the primary HOST also comes up fine. But my second BAM Managed Server is not starting. I don't see anything in the logs and on the Console the status is showing as Starting but it never starts. I can access the BAM Console for the one installed on the primary HOST but when giving the URL for the second HOST it doesn't come up as the I don't see an option the server is running.
I have 2 machines for this cluster setup
On machine one with IP Address: *192.168.2.2* all below servers come-up fine
    Admin
    BAM1
    SOA1
On machine two with IP Address: *192.168.3.3* have the below servers and only the SOA is coming up fine BAM not starting
    BAM2 not starting
    SOA2 coming up fine also
After giving user/password this is what I see in the terminal window and it never moves looks like getting stuck:

  • How to create reports servers with the same name in two nodes in Reports

    Greetings
We are migrating Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) to a better hardware infrastructure with high availability. We want to provide 2 new Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) in High availability and we want to avoid modify the existing forms and reports code, but the code is looking for a specific reports server name when calling reports, but I couldn't create the same reports server name in the both oas machines, I could create the reports server in only one node. I want to create a reports server with the same name in both nodes but it is not possible. I know that there is a procedure to do that in 10.1,2 (Note 437228.1, How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet) but I couldn't find the equivalent procedure in 9.0.4.
Anybody kwows how to create a reports server with the same name in two nodes using 10g (9.0.4)
    Thanks
    Ramiro Ortiz.

    Hello.
I applied the patch 4092150 on my oas 9.0.4.2 and I modified my rwnetwork.conf file changing the port to 14022 by following the note "How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet? [ID 437228.1]" but I am facing the same error rep-56040 "server already exists in the network".
When I run osfind command I get the following information (My reports server is senarep and I want to create it on SNMMBOGOAS10):
osfind: Found 2 agents at port 14000
    HOST: SNMVBOGOAS10.sena.red
    HOST: SNMVBOGOAS09.sena.red
osfind: There are no OADs running on in your domain.
osfind: There are no Object Implementations registered with OADs.
osfind: Following are the list of Implementations started manually.
    HOST: SNMVBOGOAS10.sena.red
    REPOSITORY ID: IDL:oracle/reports/server/EngineComm:1.0
    OBJECT NAME: senarep2
    REPOSITORY ID: IDL:oracle/reports/server/ServerClass:1.0
    OBJECT NAME: senarep2
    HOST: SNMVBOGOAS09.sena.red
    REPOSITORY ID: IDL:oracle/reports/server/EngineComm:1.0
    OBJECT NAME: senarep
    REPOSITORY ID: IDL:oracle/reports/server/ServerClass:1.0
    OBJECT NAME: senarep
    Any Ideas?

  • How to add a second database along with existing two node RAC environment

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with this.
    My Environment:
    1. Two node RAC Cluster database (11.2.0.2) with ASM running perfectly (Oracle Sid = test-1)
    2. I have installed a second single instance db on node 2 (Oracle Sid = test-2) with NTFS file system for datafiles
    3. Database is up and running, but I am not able to connect it from any client.
    4. I am getting ORA-12514:  TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    5. Database (test2) is registered with grid LISTENER
    5. TNSPING from client machine response is ok
Am I missing something here, happy to provide more info if requested.
    Thanks,

  • Mutliple serveres in a two node RAC

hello friends m i newbie in RAC and i have 7 servers in my company 4 are for oracle database used for different purposes having same instance name on each of them and 3 are for application servers used for different purposes having same instance name and i want to use two node RAC for all of them now my question is
    1) can i use all the 7 servers (4 database and 3 application) together in a two node RAC?
    2) in RAC can i have different instances having same name?
    thanx in advance

That is how Oracle scales.
Oracle does not scale the converse way - running multiple databases on a single server.
    1) can i use all the 7 servers (4 database and 3 application) together in a two node RAC?That depends entirely on whether the 2 severs have the capacity to deal with the processing load currently handled by the database servers.
Also note that in Oracle the terms "+database+" and "+schema+" differ from what are used by some other RDBMS products.
An Oracle database is a physical entity. An Oracle schema is a (amongst other things) a logical database. So a single physical Oracle database can contain 1000's of logical databases - and these logical databases can be physically separated from one another (via tablespaces), can have different rights, can have different resource profiles, etc.
Each RAC node is part of a shared everything cluster - meaning that the entire physical database is available on each and every RAC node.
On RAC, you can do what is called application partitioning. You can for example configure HR clients to make use of the HR logical database (schema) on RAC node 1. RAC node 3 is for example used for the Data Mart application and node 2 handles the customer billing clients.
In other words, you partition your applications across RAC nodes.
    2) in RAC can i have different instances having same name? The instance name is a physical name and should very seldom be explicitly used. Your physical RAC database's SID may be PROD. Your 4 RAC instances, one on each server, will have SIDs PROD1 to PROD4.
But you should instead create database services and have clients connect (via the RAC's SCAN/Single Client Access Name) to a specific service.
Bottom line to keep in mind - RAC is Oracle's answer to scalability. And RAC is multiple servers and a single database. Doing the converse and running multiple database on a single server (RAC or no RAC), very seldom makes any technical sense. It almost always will reduce both performance and scalability.

  • Do I need 3 machines for Sun Two-Node Cluster HA for Apache?

The vendor is trying to set up a Sun Cluster HA for Apache and said it requires a dedicated machine
for monitoring purpose(The Sun Cluster HA for Apache probe??). Is this monitoring machine mandatory and have to be dedicated for that purpose? And can I use 1 machine to monitor more than 1 cluster? Because the vendor requires 2 extra machine to monitor 2 set of 2-node cluster..and the document I read from Sun only mentions the 3rd machine is required for admin console.
Also, if I only have 2 node cluster, can I configure Apache as a scalable + failover service at the same time or I have to choose either one? Thanks!!

Incorrect. You can set up a Solaris Cluster on a single node if you wish although two nodes give you redundancy. The probe for Apache runs from the node on which Apache is executing.
If you have a two node cluster you could have multiple implementations of Apache: fail-over and scalable. You can mix them until you run out of resources: CPU, networking bandwidth, IP addresses, etc.

Anways, ORacle EXadata(version1)was for DWH applications while Exadata Version2, The Database Machine is for OLTP systems.

  • Multi node two web servers?

Is it possible to have TWO web servers, on a multi node install. I am not really concerned about load balancing. I am mostly concerned with installing a second web server in a DMZ for external users to access.

There is a document in Metalink for this. We have implemented DMZ setup in multinode. Note:287176.1

  • Control file not updated till date in RAC two node database

    Hi,
    Good day.
To my surprise i found that control files, in our database RAC with two nodes, are not updated till date except one from node 1 and another from node 2.
But we got all the controlfile names in the init parameter file, in both the nodes.
    Node 1
    bash-3.00$ ls -lrt
    total 922128
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Nov 3 2007 cntrl03.dbf
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Nov 3 2007 cntrl02.dbf
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Apr 12 17:21 cntrl01.dbf
    Node 2
    bash-3.00$ ls -lrt
    total 922128
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Mar 30 09:17 cntrl03.dbf
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Mar 30 09:17 cntrl02.dbf
    -rw------- 1 oracle dba 157286400 Apr 12 17:20 cntrl01.dbf
As you could see cntrl01.dbf is the only file updated till date in both the nodes. The database is running fine.
    what is actually happening?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Balu.

As you're using RAC it is very likely that you are using an SPFILE.
Connect as a DBA account (or an account with SELECT ANY DICTIONARY privileges) in both the instances and do "show parameter spfile" and "show parameter control" (or query V$parameter)
It is likely that the spfile is referencing only 1 controlfile.
