Exam 1ZO-047 or 1ZO-051

I am planning to go for Oracle 10g Certifications.
The first exam has 4 choices. I think going for 1ZO-01 or 1Z0-07 is of no use because they cater to 9i. So Should i go for 1ZO-047(SQL Expert) or 1ZO-51(11g).
There is no book available for 1ZO-047 in India. But this exam logically sounds better. If any one has passed this exam please help me.

Hi did any body pass the exam 1zo 051? I'm ready to tke the test I almost finish my study and I have a plan to take it coming week could you please guide me how do I prepare for exam. I am so worried because this could be my first exam for Oracle.
Please give me some hints .........thanks

If you are really nervous about the exam there are known reliable book here:
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) (ISBN: ISBN-13: 978-0071597869)
If you are not working from the book then ensure yu have studied all the topics here:
If you feel you need more practice then get it here:
Authorized practice exams are here: [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=208]
You may choose to take offers of other practice exams, these may contain inaccuracies or other issues and might invalidate your exam pass or certification.. See [http://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=794] and [http://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=801]
The good news with 1z0-051 is you may choose to do it online, and you can retake within 14 days if you want to. Doing it online is not always good, as you can easily get a distraction, and there is an incredible temptation to cheat (which quite frankly could slow you down!). I went to the test center to do 1z0-051 to get experience of the test center environment for later exams and to show I had passed under proctored conditions and to avoid distractions. However if you cannot get to a test center easily then online exam becomes the preferred option.
Other than that work through the exam steadily, watching the time remaining to ensure you dont run out of time. When you know the answer to a question reread it quickly to ensure you read the question correctly, put your answer in and move on.
I like to have a shot at all questions one by one as they come up, but will mark and come back to few at the end if I have time. But that doesnt normally help. Dont panic at the end going back through and changing a load of answers. See 1z0-051 as part of a process of developing an exam taking technique that suits you.
Realistically I have viewed that if I feel I have a 75% chance of passing a certification exam then is usually worth having a shot at it. And as a Oracle tutor on a course I was on said recently if you fail it you dont have to tell anyone (though it will show on your prometric table of all exams taken, but you dont have to show that to anyone). When you do pass your certificate wont show the previous failures (I believe).
Hope this gives you confidence, good luck, bigdelboy

  • Cost of the exam 1zo-146

    Dear All,
I want to appear in the exam 1zo-146. I am from india. The oracle site says Rs 8014 is required to appear in the exam. My question is whether there exists any additional service charge of RS 1200 against the exam.
If it is required then ok but if some one is asking you for the extra money where some one should complain about it.
    Regards

The exam seems to be figure quoted today when I checked for India.
At first glance there is a possibility someone at the test center (I assume you are talking to a test center) may have been trying to put some money in his own pocket.  But there may be other explanations, a test center may only give exams to it's own students .... so that is what it is all about,
I don know the exact communications that occurred between yourself and the test center.
    I would suggest:
    (1) Getting a test booked:
--- Identify any alternative test centers close to you, consider using a different one.
--- Try to book the test via Pearson VUE or online, That may the "surcharge" shouldnt occur.  Links from the certification.oracle.com website ....
    (2) Reporting the fraud.
If you feel you there was corruption attempt by the test center you should do one of the following:
-- If you wish to continue with this get a CLEAR detailed account of the what happened with dates, names, times:
    Do ONE of the following:-
[A] -- From the certification.oracle.com website, raise an Service Request - problems with the test center.  NOTE THE SR number.
-- -- Optionally raise a email to OCP_FRAUD with same info quoting the SR number.
[B] -- Ring up Pearson VUE and discuss with them ( Its unlikely the Pearson VUE frontline will be interested.
[C] -- Raise an exam security issue from the pearson VUE website.
I presume this was all verbal.
The choice is yours (especially as you raised two threads).

  • I Just Did the Exam 1Z0-047 - What's Next?

I just passed my first (Internationally Recognized) Oracle exam 1Z0-047. Hmmm, i got %83. I think its good since its my first exam, i felt i could make it better up to %90+. The paper shows 9 bullet points of topics that i may show review. The topics they mentioned i know it really well. Shall i take the exam again? I don't think its a big deal probably %83 is good. Anyway, the exam center gave me a printed paper of my total score. They said Oracle will send another Certification to my address. Which Certification is official? The one i have been given by the exam center is a printed cert (black and point). Which one should i show to the employers?
I'm happy as well as sad because i knew the mistakes i made are silly (i wish to rid of the bullet points argghhhh) + i did the exam after having at least 3 months college hands on experience.

NO DO NOT TRY TO TAKE ANY PASSED EXAM AGAIN - its against certification candidate agreements : [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=138]
Although the suggested topics are a guide dont dwell on them too much; if you feel you know them ell enough thats fine; move on. Because of the effects of small samples sizes on individual topics these can easily become skewed.

Keep both. 1z0-047 is an exam with fulfills a certification requirement so you get a success pack including a certificate; and thats even more important. Thats the best one to show to your employer; but it may be 8 / 10 weeks beforeyou received it. (NB: Oracle does not send a copy of your exam report - they will only send certificates - however there might be changes when they move to Prometric).
I'm happy as well as sad because i knew the mistakes i made are silly (i wish to rid of the bullet points argghhhh) + i did the exam after having at least 3 months college hands on experience. Then your mistakes will help you for the future.

  • Exam 1Z0-047

Did anyone buy the new OCA Oracle Database SQL Expert Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-047 ?
Is it good in preparing for the exam.Is it better than Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals or Oracle Database 11g SQL in helping you to pass the 1Z0-047 Exam

Is it good in preparing for the exam.Probably, but bear in mind I haven't taken it. But it will cut my prep. time for this exam by an estimated 75%. Bear in mind my SQL is pretty reasonable but I've non really had the chance to focus on analytics functions and some other recently introduced topics ... i tend to drop to PL/SQL when the going gets tough ... which is sometimes a winning strategy but sometimes its the wring thing to do.
Is it better than Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals or Oracle Database 11g SQL in helping you to pass the 1Z0-047 ExamIf you are taliking about books the answer is almost certainly yes (if you are talking about training courses the answer is less clearcut). However my opinion is that when using a exam focused book you should always be prepared to access Original Oracle Documentation and possilbly other SQL books; and if your not familiar with the subject to get some additional non-exam focused training as well.

  • Contribute and post (1zo-051) exam questions

Any one who has some sample questions please paste here to help me and many others who plan to take this exam (sql fundamentals 1 exam 1z0-051). It wil be a useful contributation.....

    Good morning,
Here is the information from Oracle on such practices...
Oracle Certification Program Fraudulent Activity Policy
Oracle reserves the right to take action against any candidate involved in fraudulent activities, including, but not limited to, fraudulent use of vouchers, promotional codes, reselling exam discounts and vouchers, cheating on an exam, alteration of score reports, alteration of completion certificates, violation of exam retake policies or other activities deemed fraudulent by Oracle.
If Oracle determines, in its sole discretion, that fraudulent activity has taken place, it reserves the right to take action up to and including, but not limited to, decertification of a candidate's Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Certified Professional and/or OCM credentials, temporary, indefinite or permanent ban of a candidate from Oracle certification programs, notification to a candidate's employer, and notification to law enforcement agencies. Candidates found committing fraudulent activities forfeit all fees previously paid to Oracle, or to Oracle's authorized vendors, and may be required to pay additional fees for services rendered.
View the Oracle Certification Program Candidate Agreement which requires your agreement before the start of each exam.
Take note of this. I would not want to put in the effort you are looking to do only to have Oracle decertify me.
Study, practice, study some more. Then, when you are ready, take the test.
    Good luck,
    Don.

  • 1Z0-047 vs 1Z0-051

    Hi every one,
i have IT background but I am a beginner in Oracle Database, and intend to go for OCP DBA,
which one of the exam is better or worth to go for , as my target is DBA,
i have seen exam topics and 1z0-047 covers almost all the topics of 1z0-051, would it be beneficial for me doing 1z0-47 keeping in my mind my role as DBA in practical world?
    you response would highly appreciated,
    Regards,

1Z0-047 is a much harder test and for that reason, the more valued to have. It 'covers' all of the topics from 1Z0-051 largely in that questions from any of those areas is fair game, but it concentrates more on those topics that are unique to it. I've written study guides for both tests. My 1Z0-047 guide devotes a bit under 40% of the book to reviewing the topics from 1Z0-051 and the rest on the new material for 047. I'd say that the test itself was weighted more like 25% or less to the 051 topics to 75%-plus to the 047 ones. That's very much a ballpark estimate, though.
Both tests have a very high percentage of questions that involve SQL as either part of the question or part of the answer. In the 051 test, the SQL is more straightforward, and 'bad' SQL generally has reasonably obvious flaws. In 047, the difference between 'right' and 'wrong' answers is often much more subtle. the 047 questions are also much trickier in that they will present perfectly functional SQL that 'looks' flawed because it has been presented in a weird fashion. Which test is better for you is something I can't answer. 047 will automatically get you a certification -- namely the SQL Expert even before you get your OCP. There is no similar 'interim' certification for 051.
As a beginner in Oracle, I'd have to suggest that you take the 1Z0-051 exam. It's a better foundation in the essentials. The 1Z0-047 exam was written specifically to try to pass only people with several years of experience in Oracle SQL. While I won't argue that it's not possible to study sufficiently to pass the 047 exam without that experience, I will say that it's going to be consderably harder to do.
Both of my guides are available in Kindle or paperback. If you have a Kindle and are an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow them for free.

  • OCA - Choice between  1Z0-144,1Z0- 047 and 1Z0- 051

    Hello everyone,
I am a developer working on Java EE and our DB is Oracle 10g.
I intend to take an exam that prepares me for :
    1. Writing DDL,DML and usage of functions
    2. Creating cursors,procedures,triggers,indexes etc.
    3. Focus on writing efficient queries - sub-queries,joins,manipulating BLOBs etc.
    4. Creating & using Java-like 'collections' in the DB
Given the above requirements, I decided to go for OCA certification. I realized the following path from Oracle's site :
    _1Z0-047_ Oracle
    Database SQL Expert
    OR
    _1Z0-051_ Oracle Database
    11g: SQL Fundamentals
    I
    AND
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-147_
    OR
    Oracle Database 11g:
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-144_
Now,I am quite unsure as to which exam I must target first.
Given my requirements, please suggest the best approach( I know the basics of PL/SQL )
    Thanks !

Thanks for the replies, guys !
Just to prevent the fragmentation of the information, I am posting my further question in this thread itself.
My objective now is to consolidate the study material for 1Z0-051.
After scanning the previous threads, I got the following suggestions :
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass
SQL Developer guide from the oracle documentation at http://tahiti.oracle.com
OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) ISBN-13: 978-0470395127 sybex.
I prefer to read a certification oriented book to get started and the other stuff - forums, documentation, references for practice.
Hence, please suggest the appropriate study material.
    Thanks !

  • OCA Certification

i recently enrolled for the OCA Certification for which i was to sit for 1ZO-051 exam and 1ZO-052 exams. I have already sat for the first exam( 1ZO-051) and am yet to sit for the second exam. Recently i checked on thew oracle website; they had written something to the effect the OCA Certification has been discontinued and that nearest certfication is OCP. please advise as am abit confused

The OCA is unlikely to go away any time soon.  If for some strange reason OU decided to do away with it, they would have to give lots of advance notice.

I have working Oracle Database for 4 years , I'm thinking to take some certification. Got confused which one to take Exam 1Z0-051 or Exam 1Z0-047. Which one would be beneficial , where I can put these certificated in my Cv.Recently I heard that for this Exam 1Z0-051 ,certificate won't be provided. Is it so?

Which one would be beneficial , Looking at other posts by yourself you ar working with SQL ... and just possibly some PL/SQL (and possibly not).
Got confused which one to take Exam 1Z0-051 or Exam 1Z0-047.
1z0-051 is an easier exam, it will give you an exam pass but not a certification. In doing this you will ensure you have studied the basic topics.
1z0-047 is a more advanced exam that does give a certification, in general it is a lot harder and involves more complex.
Locating the exams on http://certification.oracle.com and viewing the topics is helpful.
My personal recommendation in general is to study 1z0-051 first, then consider 1z0-047.
    - ( IMHO It really ought to be 1z0-051 is a pre-requsite for 1z0-047; this is a pain for some experienced people who are really proficient at SQL but some people are being led badly into 1z0-047 when they shouldn't be, and 'know' adanced topics without knoing basic techniques).
If you are involved in PL/SQL then http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:PLSQL is relevant
where I can put these certificated in my Cv.If you have passed an exam you may put that in your cv.
If you have received confirmation you achieved a certification you may put that information in your cv or download the logo from certview.oracle.com if that is your desire and insert following the guidelines. Certifcation logos in CV's is not my scene.
Recently I heard that for this Exam 1Z0-051 ,certificate won't be provided. Is it so?The is no certification that has 1z0-051 as the sole pre-requisite.
Please also visit htp://certification.oracle.com and view the getting started / preparation and FAQ sections etc.

    Hi
I have recently passed my 1zo-051 exam and i am looking forward to taking the next step to become a certfied admin profession .I am not very sure as to how to prepare for the exam should i study dumps and ebooks or should i go for practical training download the software set it up  from scratch and learn ?

'Dumps' is short for Brain Dumps and these are not valid preparation materials.  Using them can cause you to be banned from the Oracle certification program.
Installing the software is good preparation. You can also find a number of links to valid study materials here:

  • 1zo-052

    Hi,
I have 2 yrs of experience in mainframe in india. After getting married and coming to US, i came to know there is very less opening in mainframe. Since i had interest in oracle during my MCA , i thought i could switch to Oracle. Hope i did not go wrong in choosing oracle as my path. i wanted to be an OCA and then OCP certified.
Today i have cleared 1zo-051 sql fundamentals 1. Felt i could have taken 1zo-047 - sql expert but i came to know abt this only few days back. Anyway i strict to my plan and took 1zo-051 and cleared with 100% result.
Can anyone help me suggesting the books and tutorials i should refer for 1zo-052 - administration 1?
Will these certifications help me in getting jobs in US?
    Thanks,

Does anyone know of any official mock exams for the SQL Expert exam (1Z0-047)? All I can find are dodgy brain dump sites...
Also how realistic are the questions in the Master Exams that come with OCA Oracle Database SQL Certified Expert Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-047) (Osborne Oracle Press Series) - Steve O'Hearn? The questions at the end of each chapter seem far too simple to me and are much easier than the 7 or so sample questions on the Oracle page for this exam. Any thoughts from those who have taken the exam and used this book?

( The questions the the end of the first few chapters are trivial ... they then become more relevant ).
Well I found the book helpful and from what I can remember the practice tests helped point some gaps I had.
Typically I think I find real exams sometimes need a bit longer than that on some of the practice tests.
I personally only use practice tests when i think i have learnt all material as a check to where i'm at and to identify gaps.
I will even leave the end of chapter tests under i think i have grasped everything.
And I will never take end of chapter tests if i have read that chapter earlier in the day!
( If i get tempted must take end of chapter tests early then i choose a reasonably meaty chapter about 1/3 into the book).
The book was enough for me .... but it may not be so for everyone ... we can be different and start from different places.
Someone mentioned they got rhu the test easily in an hour .... well i was pushing time the whole way through!
