Exam: Java SE 7 Programmer I (1Z0-803) - some questions

Hi everyone,
I'm going to take this exam and I have some questions:
I want to make sure that: this exam is in english and it has multiple-choice test form, and we don't know how many correct answers are possible. There is no open-ended questions. Am I right?
How many answers each question has?
Does oracle provide some discounts e.g for students? (for me as a student 300$ it's not a small amount ;/ )
Best regards

Oracle is the only one that can answer those questions for you. You can review the Exam Topics section of the official Oracle site to get an idea of the topics that will be covered and the types of things you will be expected to know.

  • Java SE 7 Programmer II 1Z0-804 requirements

    https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:154#tabs-1-1
states that Prior Certification Requirements for Java SE 7 Programmer II 1Z0-804 exam is Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer exam.
But there are Java SE 8 Programmer I 1Z0-808 certification available. Can it be considered satisfactory for 1Z0-804?
By the way, when these requirements are checked? Right now I'm able to schedule 1Z0-804 exam at pearsonvue.com despite I have no Associate Java SE 7 Programmer certificate.

My understanding ( which is not authoritative) is that a version 'x+1' OCA cannot be used in conjunction with version 'x' 'OCP' exam to produce an version 'x' certification.
One reason I can think of is some topics in the 'OCA' exam of release 'x' might move to the 'OCP' exam of version 'x+1'; or vice versa.  The other reason is oracle want to encourage you to go for the later release and not to give you an incentive to go for a lower release as OCP.  If you want to go for OCP at the the lower release then doing the OCA at the lower level should not be a big ask.

Exams can be scheduled whenever you like in whatever order you like.
Effectively when Pearson VUE notifies Oracle of an exam pass or [successful course verification ... which is treated like a pseudo exam pass] the candidate's exam history is examined to trigger any new certifications for which the candidate has become eligible.

There is a link to this certification at education.oracle.com site, but it leads to invalid page and it's not in pearsonvue lists. Is this some future certification? When can it be available for real?

  • 1Z0-803 or 1Z0-850?

    Hi,
I'm planning to take the Java Associate Programmer exam (and after that, the OCP for Java). I have 2 points of view, and i need an advice/recommendation. So:
    1) Take 1Z0-850 (Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 5/SE 6, which covers topics such as Fundamental Object-Oriented Concepts, Java Implementation of Object-Oriented Concepts and so on, not covered in 1Z0-803), and then 1Z0-851 to become a Java SE 6 Certified Professional.
    2) Take directly 1Z0-803 (Java SE 7 Associate), which does not cover topics such as the basics of OO and other introductory notions about the Java Language and the architecture, etc (as 1Z0-850), but contains just "techincal" topics (Working With Java Data Types, Arrays, etc).
Maybe if i opt for 2), i should already have knowledge of those introductory concepts about Java and OO? or it is not mandatory..
I think if i take first 1Z0-850, and then 1Z0-851 - Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer, and then upgrading the certification to Java SE 7 Professional, i will pay much more ( than taking 1Z0-803 and finally 1Z0-804 to become an OCP (so just 2 exams)
So what do you recommend, option 1 or 2?
One more question: when i go to "Upgrade an existing certification", at http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:JSE7Prog#1 , i see that only "Professional" certifications can be upgraded (Any version Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer OR Any version Sun Certified Java Programmer); so Associate cannot be? e.g. upgrading from 1Z0-850 to 1Z0-803 (which i have mentioned above)

    IMHO For certifications in general:
    (1) For most people, unless there are other factors, taking certification on the latest version would seem usually to be the sensible course. Factors against it might include for example if training, especially and mandatory training, for the earlier version was more accessible or cheaper.
    (2)
    - Typically for OCA's the difference between OCA(ver (x)) and OCA(ver (x-1)) will be one exam. On this basis there is no point for Oracle(or the candidate) in an upgrade exam, simply take the OCA(ver (x)) exam.
    - IMHO It is also important for OCA's to focus on getting to OCP standard which should provide a fuller and more rounded view of the product; rather than concentrating on new features.
    - (The typical example here would be 1z0-053 which concentrates a lot on backup ... would one want a DBA OCA focusing on exotic new features before he has demonstrated mastery of backup).
    - For OCP to (ver (x)) from (OCP (ver (x-1)) via OCA would be 2 exams (twice the cost). An upgrade exam here is a single exam cost.
    - The upgrade exam here allows Oracle to focus on OCP level candidates concentrating on the new features of the latest version, where their knowledge gap will be.
    - (and also where Oracle needs to get this knowledge into the community).

  • SCJA and OCA SE7 (1z0-803) difference

    Hi,
I am planning to take up OCA SE7 java certification. I am following SCJA Se 6 book as OCA SE 7 is yet to release. I would like to know topicwise what are the differences in these 2 exams, what are the topics which are nelwly added or excluded when compared to SCJA
I would also like to know if 'Threads' topic is there for 1z0-803 exam.
    Thanks

    HI,

  • Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer

    Hi all,
I would like to take this exam (the professional, not the associate). But I'm not sure if I first have to take the associate to then be allowed to take the professional. Or can I take the professional directly even if I have no certification?
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=505
    Thanks in advance!

You have to pass 1Z0-803 Java SE 7 Programmer I for OCA and than take 1Z0-804 Java SE 7 Programmer II for OCP.

  • Expirence recommended for "1Z0-803 Oracle Certified Associate"

1Z0-803 Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer

Hi, as the previous answer suggests there is no recommended experience required to pass this exam. I passed the 1Z0-803 after 3 months prep. I was new to Java though have prior C++ experience.
If you are able to read and understand all the tutorials at the below link you will probably be ready to take the exam.
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/extra/certification/javase-7-programmer1.html
The only advice I'd have is to practice working through questions at faster than a leisurely pace because you need to get through all the questions to pass.
There are lots of study guides for Java 6 certification and they will all help you pass this exam. For this exam, have a look at :
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/language/enhancements.html#javase7
for the new features in Java 7 and you won't be caught out.

  • When will Java SE 7 Programmer II be available?

    Dear all,
Does anybody has information about the date?
I successfully took the Programmer I exam this week and I fell ready to take the second exam now. What about beta exams? Do they have the same "value" as a released exam? Any pro or cons?
    Best regards.

From the Oracle Certification Program page at: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=182
    Scoring a Beta Exam
    * You will only be scored on the questions that are chosen for the final exam.
    * Since you are graded only on the questions selected for the production version of the certification exam, it may take up to 10 weeks after the close of the beta period to receive your exam results from Pearson VUE.
    * Passing a beta exam is the same as passing a production exam. For example, if you were to pass all the beta versions of the exams required within an Oracle Certification path, you will earn your Oracle Certification credential and receive the certificate in the mail.
It also says at the top of the page that there will be about 175 - 220 questions (those that will be finally chosen + beta questions that may not be chosen, but you will be scored only on the questions that get chosen for production). Also, you will get more time for the higher number of questions - about 3 to 3.5 hours.
    Hope this helps...

  • Next exam after 'Introduction to Oracle9i SQL (1Z0-007)' ?

    HI,
I have completed IZ0-007 before 2 years please let me know what is the next exam i can go for.I have 6 years epx in SQL/PL SQL.

Based on your statement 'I have 6 years epx in SQL/PL SQL.' -- my first inclination would be to suggest 1Z0-144: Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL.  It is the standard exam for PL/SQL developers to start with and passing this (in conjunction with your 1Z0-007 score) will earn you the Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate credential. 1Z0-047 is an older version of the PL/SQL exam.  I generally recommend 1Z0-144 over 1Z0-147:
    Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certification: 1Z0-147 or 1Z0-144?
If you pass 1Z0-144, you might then consider pursuing 1Z0-146: Oracle Database 11g: Advanced PL/SQL. Passing this exam after earning the OCA will make you an Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional.
You can find links to study material for both exams at the URLs below:
