Examples of iMovie projects...where?

Is there a website that has examples of projects done with iMovie? I'm always on the lookout for ideas that I can include with my corny home movies. I'm not interested in seeing stuff on youtube.com...I'm more looking for examples of stuff people might put together for keepsake reasons like vacations, holidays, special outings etc.
Thanks,
Gary

  • Incorporate existing iMovie project into new, longer one

I have an 8-minute iMovie project, with lost of careful editing (multiple sounds tracks, transitions, etc.)
I need to incorporate it as one section in a longer iMovie project I'm now working on. But when it becomes the one section of a larger project, I have to shorten it in half, to be only 4 minutes.
    Two questions:
    1) How do you insert an existing iMovie project into a new one -- bring over all the pieces at once, with everything in tact (music, transitions, etc.)?
    2) This is a little more complicated. Since I have to boil down the 8 minute piece to 4 minutes, I'd rather not have to go back into the original and do painstaking editing -- which would involve rejiggering transitions, music fades, and all kinds of things. I'd rather export it to Quicktime, bring that into the new, larger iMovie project, where I can crop out parts I don't want and tie togehter the remaining pieces with transitions.
My concern: when I export original 8 minute project to Quicktime, doesn't that compress it? If so, and I bring that already-compressed Quicktime into new, longer iMovie project, when the new one is finished and I export it out to a DVD (end product) -- won't that be re-compressing the already compressed portion?
    Thanks for any insights.

  • IMovie crashed, lost project. How do you SAVE in iMovie? Where's the file?

Just spent 4-5 hours building a complicated movie from a year's worth of footage. At some point, iMovie crashed. I think I lost all those hours of creative decision making, since I cannot see the file when I reopen iMovie.
There is no "open" command in the file menu. There is no "save" command in the file menu.
This would imply that Apple was autosaving for me to save me trouble. Hmm. I can save in almost every program I use, and revert, and save versions.
How do you save a project in iMovie? I don't see save in the file menu, as has been the steadfast tradition of Apple applications since I purchased my first Mac in 1984. What in the blazes have you done with SAVE? It is so basic.
Along the same line, where is the project file located on my hard drive? I would like to open it. Since I assume you have been autosaving to somewhere, could you please let me know where my file is saved.

This just appeared to happen to me too.  I tried clicking on the file in Movies/iMovie Projects.  That didn't work.
Then, I made a copy of the  file in a safe place.  I noticed it was 2.2 MB, so something had to be in there.  Next, I started iMovie and clicked the Project Library arrow.  The project was listed there.  I opened it and got back most but not all of the work.  It lost a lot of my audio changes.  Here's the thing.  I worked until about midnight, and then left iMovie up and running til noon.  You would think it would have autosaved the changes by the time I came back.  I suggest making your own copy of the file now and then, just in case.

  • Where can I find "Ripping Software" to use to enable me to download a clip from the dvd of our wedding onto an existing imovie project?

Where can I find "Ripping Software" to use to enable me to download a clip from a dvd made of our wedding onto an existing imovie project?

Just do a search for Handbrake. That will do it for you.

  • Where is my finalized iMovie project?

I finished my iMovie project and finalized it. This took several hours, but now I can't find it. I see the file in "iMovie Projects" in finder, labeled as an .rcproject file, which opens iMovie, but it says I have 0 projects. When I right click "Show package contents" it shows me a folder that says "Proxies," which is full of files that I can't open. This is a project for my students that took weeks and I'm having a complete freak out right now trying to figure out what happened, as I've done this many times before without issues, although never on iMovie 11 (used 08 up until now)... Help!

I don't think iMovie'11 have the Text Safe TV boarder function as FinalCut. And in a way when creating DVD menus in iDVD.
But iDVD don't change the Movie to safe boarder - BUT one can in iDVD
    • Drop movie into SlideShow project and here change Scaling so that the picture get a black frame and thus shrinks so that all is visibly on a CRT-TV (with overscan - as they all has)
Alt. is to go for FinalCut - where text tools are so much better.

  • Where did my imovie project go?

Apologies, this is probably so fundamental - but I tried searching for the above string and nothing came up.
I was working on an iMovie Project. I was saving it regularly ('Save Project'). But where to?
I thought it was in a folder. It's not there. In fact, searching my system for a file with .imovieproject an an extension, or the name of the project, came up with nothing.
Am I supposed to 'Save As' somewhere else?
I did find a copy in the Finder trashcan but it's an old version.
I tried closing iMovie, and opening it, and it loaded the project.
However, opening iMovie subsequently just asks me for a new or existing project.
What did I do? I went ahead and exported it to iDVD but it would be nice to have the original...
Thanking you for your esteemed patience...

Thank you all for being so welcoming! (Egad, my social life in Eugene, OR has been so tragic for 4 years I'm tempted to just hang out in front of this forums from now on. If my job didn't entail e-convoing with tons people on all day that might be half appealing ... ).
I found the movie in the trashcan. I have no idea how it got there. I do know Apple has this annoying habit of bringing up some folder you used in the distant past to save in which has nothing to do with where you want to put it now - you have to watch it ...
I have a couple more... but I guess I should go and ask them under iDVD. See you soon... in case you want to see what I do to try and get a life, my link below has lots of little movies...

  • When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

The latest version (iMovie 10) doesn't have iMovie projects and iMovie events folders - these were for iMovie 9 and earlier.   In iMovie 10 Projects are in Events and Events are in Libraries.  When you quit iMovie the current status of your projects and events are automatically saved in the library so there is nothing to do.  The default location for libraries is in ~ / Movies folder but you can put them anywhere, such as on an external drive .  If you want to backup the library you can make a copy of it on a separate disk or memory stick using the Finder.

  • Hi all, my first time on.  I shared my imovie project to Media Browser.  Fine.  Then after it downloaded it 'disappeared.'  Where did it go?  Having found it, how do I then share it with idvd?  I am told the image quality will be much better this route.

    Hi
    I do
    • In iMovie - select a project
    • Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other res.)
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD and select to start a New iDVD Project
    • Import movie - from Media button - down to the right - and here from Movies

  • I finalized my iMovie project. Where are the .mov files? (1080,mov, 720.mov, etc.)

Hi everyone I'm an iMovie newbie,
I finalized my iMovie project. I am using iMovie 9.0.9 by the way. I can't seem to locate the movie files when I go to upload my video to YouTube. I also noticed that the files for my previous videos are gone as well. For now, I'm exporting using QuickTime, but that is taking way too much time and I have never had to do this before. I waited an hour for my project to finalize, where are the files? Where can I find them?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi JBK
*Huge thanks for this* - the link proved very useful. I tried the MPEG STREAMCLIP option and like yourself exported to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codex @ 100% quality (you can also export in DV mode with much the same results) - it worked fine but file sizes trebled and quality reduced (you can also. As you say its also a pain to have to go though another process. To be able to do it inside imove is a much better option (thanks to tjworld for that, who would have thought of doing that!!!) Surely this will be something Apple have to sort out in the next upgrade. So pleased that I can continue using the Zi6 as it's a really smart little camera - even though mine is pink one (the camera that is!) This is the first time I've used a discussion stream so thanks again all for the help

  • I have an iMac running system 10.10.3.  I would like to use an external hard drive to save all my iMovie projects.  How do I transfer the files and tell iMovie where to find them?

How can I move all my iMovie projects to an external hard drive and save all future projects to that same drive without constantly getting the 'can't find files' statement?  I am using iMovie 10.0.7,

Have a look at the help files on this at:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0.8/#/mov3fa25bae7
You can have multiple libraries if you want and save them anywhere.

  • Where can I find how much space an IMovie project takes up?

I am making A DVD and it says 'there is not enough disk space' when I try to burn it. The project is 73 mins long with some hd and sd footage

    Movies folder>iMovie Projects.

  • IMovie Project contents gone missing – what's broken and where is it all?

I used the latest iMovie (iLife 09) on an dual-core Intel Mac tower to make a 6-minute movie for a client. First time I've ever used iMovie. Worked great and I subsequently used iDVD to burn it for standard DVD player viewing. Now when I open the original iMovie project there is nothing there although it's file size indicates there is clearly content. Nothing appears when I move my cursor around the screen and the project name does not appear at the top. I don't know how an iMovie project tracks its content "links". I'm wondering if I may have moved some files or renamed them and the iMovie project cannot find what it's looking for. Any idea what this newbie has done? Thank you all in advance.

It depends on whether you want to move everything (projects and events) or just the events which are the space consuming items.
Rather than go into a long winded reply here I suggest that you type the following topics into iMovie Help.
It is a great information resource:
    1. Copying or moving a project
    2. Copying or moving video from your event library
    3. Consolidating a project's media.
Your other disc should show up as an icon at the end of your project library and in the event library there is a disc button just to the right of Event Library.
    Hope that helps.
    Z
PS If you import directly into iMovie then you will have to move your imports to the other drive as per above.
Otherwise if you import video files to your computer then into iMovie, import them into your other drive instead of your primary.

  • Where to put iMovie projects.

When opening a new project, I can open it in a limited amount of places ( MacIntosh Hard disk, home directory , applications, desktop, movies, music, name of external hard drive). I just bought a new external hard drive and want to create the iMovie project in a subdirectory of the external hard drive. I'm not seeing any options for doing this. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi CurlyGirl - ... It is working fine, I create directories and files on it...
You would still be advised to do as Mish says and check the format. A Windows-formatted drive will work with normal files but I think there is a file-size limit and iMovie project sizes go far beyond that. In any event, iMovie projects do not function correctly if the drive is formatted wrongly for Macs.

  • I want to move imovie projects and events to an external hard drive.  Where is the "move" command?

I want to move completed imovie projects and events to my external hard drive.  I see in the "help" section that I should "move project & event" and they indicate that their should be such a selection.  I highlight the project I want to move and attempt to drag it to my external HD but it won't stay.  I never see "move project & event".  I've tried holding the "command" key down while dragging and that doesn't work either.  Help ...

    Hi
    Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
    A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
    B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
    C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
    D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
    E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
Event's window can show two faces
    Like this
    or like this
from one hard disk Event - You can move it to the other hard disk
You can not (at least not me) move Event to Project or other way around only
Event to Event and Project to Project

  • Where did my iMovie projects go in mavericks

    iMac quad Running Mavericks.
I just bought this iMac and migrated everything (I thought) from my 2006 iMac running 10.6.8.
First thing I discovered is that there is no media browser in mavericks.  That means all my iMovie projects are gone unless they are hidden somewhere.  I looked in iTunes but do not see them there.
