Exasperating: the issues of a mbp (l '08) | fan control vs display i.a.

I'm going to go crazy over this. My MBP (Late 2008) is producing one issue after another and they start to heap. Gradually, I don't know where I'm off anymore. The supportline, naturally, doesn't have a clue either and my good old buddy has already been in repair about a month ago, when they changed the logic board.
For once, the fans spin almost insanely at a speed of 6208 rpm, what makes the MBP not really a treat for the ears and the battery is most likely affected, too. That can neither be healthy nor be correct. Most of the times, what I can't clearly understand, it helps to hold the device at a slant for about half a minute. Then it calms down, what doesn't last for long if at all.
On the other hand, the MBP says good bye about five times a day (sometimes more, sometimes less and, above all, without any apparent reason), as it just goes into the standby mode and, straightly following, without an input, awakes again.
By the way, the loudspeakers crunch and crack latterly, as soon as you "turn" the music a little tiny bit louder and, also, the green LED goes out all the time but only at full load. This, being seen relatively, bothers me the least. Now and then it likes to hang itself up, too, when it does not react at any input at all. Then it's time to take off the power supply.
I just don't comprehend a thing. What would you recommend? Maybe anyone with the same deplorable story here? Within that price category, I got to say, I am expecting something else. However, it has been a great experience up to now and I don't want to miss out on such a great product, which it absolutely is - as long as it works the way it should.
In hope and with greetings,
sorry for my bad English,
Daniel

The problem is that I'm kind of reliant on my MBP for school and, as I've experienced it before, it usually takes about two weeks to get it back.
Could it be that, at least in case of the issue about the sudden standby, a RAM module is the cause? I opine that it mostly happens when the RAM is almost written on to a point where it is virtually full.
Any ideas, guys?

  • Reset the smc to clean up after smc fan control?

i have been trying out smc fan control on my MBP to see if i can lessen the heat stress on it. i have removed smc fan control to let the computer handle its own fans (i'm starting to figure it knows more about its own fans than i do). however, now that it is gone, the fans seem stuck on 2000 rpm, even as the temp pushes into the 60-70 degree C range. would resetting the smc get my fans unstuck?

Your RPM and temperature readings seem perfectly normal to me.
If you search these discussion pages, you will see that others think so too.

  • I have a MBP with service center for last 21 days. The issue is device doesn't boot up. They are replacing part by part logic board, hard disk, wires and still they need more time. No confidence over there service wing. How to get MBP replacement?

I submitted my MBP 2012 model to service center on
    1. August 12: They reinstalled OS. Took it back on 13th evening
    2. August 14: They did some hardware check and reinstalled OS. Took it back on 20th evening
    3. August 21: Stil with service center, they are investigating
    What service they are providing.
    Very bad experience with apple.

    After august 21:
They changed logic borad and told me that HDD is fine.
After few days I called back they told me HDD is faulty.
I do not know rather they do not know what is the issue.
Thats why I want complete replacement of MBP.
    Then they say about policies.
I want to get MBP replaced, as the warranty has expired on 28th.
I do not know whether they can resolve issue or not
The super advisors from apple team are also co-ordinating still it is taking too long.
So my question is I need a repacement, How to get it?

  • I have a MBP from late 2009.  It works fine in all regards except recently, when an icon is grabbed by the built-in track pad, I can't drop the item and have to shut my computer down to resolve the issue.  How do I reinstall the driver for the trackpad?

Ok, I thought the subject line was the extent of what I could type.  My trackpad has been working fine for over two years now.  But recently if I accidently (or intentionally) drag a picutre that is highlighted on any website, the cursur never lets go of the image and all "clicking" capabilities become useless.  It even manages to lock up the rest of the computer, such that trying to restart manually doesn't work.  I litterally have to hold the power button till the MBP turns off and reboot.  I have looked for a way to unistall and reinstall the driving, but I'm either redirected to a non-Apple website or else I'm directed to the new "Retina" MBP section of the Apple store.  I don't have any other mouse that is connected to this computer, so there shouldn't be any weird interference between mutiple mice.
Is there an official applie support section where I can either download the proper driver to simply resinstall the orignal 2009-2010 MBP trackpad driver, or a way for the "Software Update" under the Apple logo in the top file bar to acknowledge this problem an automatically patch it?  I'd rather not have to go into an Apple store just to get this quirk (which doesn't happen 100% of the time anyways) figured out.  I simply don't want it to occur while I'm in the middle of a larger project and then get stuck being unable to save a document and I have to forcefully restart my entire computer (nuisance aside).
    Thank you,
    Hamilton

    Many Thanks, Kurt.
I knew I'd seen the solution you've provided somewhere - either in MacWorld or MacFormat - but couldn't remember the Gatekeeper bit!
I shall save it somewhere VERY safe now in case this happens again …
You have made an old man very happy and saved me from worrying that senile decay had suddenly set in. (I was 70 last week so you might understand the situation from that.)
    Best wishes

  • How do I configure the settings on my MBP and Apple TV so it will stream my Netflix movies from my MBP to the TV Screen?]

I bought a new Apple TV 3rd Gen.(which is currently updated) so I could stream the Netflix movies on my MacBook Pro Computer running Yosemite, onto my TV Screen. However, if I configure the settings on my Computer and Apple TV so that everything on my Desktop is displayed on the TV Screen, then Netflix can't even get the movie on my MBP open. It just keeps spinning until I get an error message about not being able to use Mirroring or Air Play if I want to stream my movie to the TV. So, when I switched the settings so that all mirroring and Air Play options were unchecked and selected all the streaming options using the internet. Then the Netflix movie would open up quick and easy, but there was nothing on the TV Screen.
I also was never able to Pair my Apple TV with my Bluetooth.(If they;re even supposed to be Paired, but something I read implied they should be Paired.f)  My MBP Bluetooth discovered the Apple TV immediately and issued a Pairing Number to enter in the Bluethooth's setting for the Apple TV, but the Apple TV Bluetooth just kept spinning. I don't know if that is part of the problem or not, since it wasn't mentioned in any documentation I read.
Also, when I was digging for information on the browser, going to Netflix Website and Apple TV's information at apple.com, I did come across a few links while searching the browser for any answers to my questions, that said I needed to Activate my Netflix Account for streaming by finding my Apple TVs activation code and then enter it on Netflix's site in my Netflix account.  And other's mentioned a registration code from my Apple TV needed to be entered to activate the "streaming" of Netflix movie content. And again, I've searched for hours and hours trying to find out where or how I could find the two codes, but never had any success. So, I have exhausted all avenues I can think of and with no luck, and I'm hoping my wonderful Apple Community can help me out or get me heading in the right direction.  Thanks, RVAF

There is a native Netflix app on Apple TV. If you are attempting to use a VPN via MBP then that is not supported.

  • My Apple Macbook Pro Keeps Randomly Restarting, What's the issue and how do I fix it?

My Macbook Pro keeps spontaneously restarting. I thought the issue was the bad battery, so I replaced it. Even with the new battery I'm having this issue.

  • Issue at start (MBP Retina late 2013)

Hi everyone, I have some little issues with my MBP: after the start it takes about 18 seconds to show the files in the folder. No coloured wheel, I just have to wait. Is this normal? Sorry for my bad english and thanks!
    Luca

    Luca,
If you're talking about when you first turn the machine on, it has to load up the operating system. 18 seconds is actually pretty fast. Sounds like your Mac is fine.

  • Finding the right resolution for MBP to projector

    Hi there,
I have a lecturer who uses a MBP 15" to project powerpoint slides and him using circuit modelling software.
What I've noticed is the whole setup is quite cumbersome:
    eg:
The projected image is not wide screen like the MBP (i am guessing the projector is at 1024x768)
This means when he runs a simulation for eg. the output pops up in it's own window, and usually off the visible screen on the projector.
needless to say, he spends alot of time awkwardly resizing windows and shifting them around just to illustrate a basic point.
My question is, if I help him resize the resolution so his MBP matches the projector, will the MBP switch back to native when he unplugs it? Will the MBP remember the projector settings next time, and resize automatically when he plugs it in, or will he have to fiddle with resolutions everytime he plugs it in? ( if so, shame on you apple!)
If so, does anyone know of a utility out there that would make this process easier? ie Detect that the projector is connected/disconnected and change the resolution accordingly.
Thanks for your help - it's difficult watching him fiddle as the proj screen is behind him and he has to turn around to see what's acutally visible to the class! It should be easier than that - it's an Apple!
Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi
I have the same issue - when I'm presenting, most of the time I use the customer's projector, so I have no idea what resolution it will be. My MBP 17" widescreen generally offers me different resolutions after the autodetect, but they're either larger than the projector display, or half the slides are missing on the right hand side.
Is there a way to choose other resolutions?
    Regards
    Shaun

  • HT203554 MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) intermittent black screen or loss of video Quality program has ended. I was unaware of the program in the first place, how do I go about correcting the issue now that the program has ended?

As the question states: I was unaware there was a program in place to correct the issue. Is it possible for me to correct the issue myself?

The gfx control app doesn't work either. Any idea what if the replacement logic board is also faulty?
I have never used this application but note what it says in the 'features' section:
If a logic board is replaced by Apple, it is warranted for 90 days in the MBP is out of the 1 year warrantee period or the 2 year additional Applecare term.

  • Resolution issues in mirror mode with last model of Cinema display and MBP

I have been using my MBP with a 27 inch Cinema display for the last year in mirror mode. (Both prior to Thunderbolt). Today, the cinema display is only coming up in low resolution while mirrored, but if I exit mirro mode, the reolution on the Cinema display is correct. Any suggestions on how to get back to prior state?
    Thanks to anyone who responds!

Same issue here. Since upgrade to Snow Leopard, my 24 Cinema LED Display acts weird with closed lid on my Macbook. It doesn't switch on video at all, only audio seems to work. It is correctly plugged with the special power/USB cable that comes/is attached to the 24 Cinema LED. Also booting the Macbook and immediately closing the lid doesn't
    No video at all!
Please help, it seems my external display has become useless...

  • "Test Error" - "raise the issue with your service ...

    Help!
I have had performance problems on my broadband for quite a while but not been able to progress. The usual number based test from BT says we should get between 4 and 7 mbps. In reality we struggle to get 2 mbps, frequently lanquishing at 1.5 mbps.
I have been onto http://speedtester.bt.com/ to get analysis on the line (previously having had problems with our profile) but whenever I try to run a test (over several weeks) I now always get the reply:
The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.
Following up on this with the Indian call centre was an exercise in futility, they just couldn't understand what I was talking about and just wanted to follow the usual script for speed problems. The last time I tried they said they'd found an error at the exchange which they would fix shortly. The result of the "fix" was that our phone and broadband disappeared for 4 days and resolving this came with the usual threat of charging us £99 is the problem wasn't BTs fault. The fault was fixed without any explanation but subsequently I've been reluctant to follow up the problem through this route.
I don't know how to go about getting someone to fix the problem without being able to run the speed tests that BT will accept.
I would greatly appreciate some assistance from this usually very helpful group.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    John,
    Thank you for answering.
The details from my ASDL statistics are below. I cannot provide a BT Speedtester result - this is one of the problems I was raising. I have done a quiet line test and there is no noise. I don't have an internal master socket; I have an external grey box from which a number of wires run to various sockets.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Macbook pro 2011 has faint green light. won't turn on. what is the issue?

I've had this problem twice and both times I've gone to the genius bar they've plugged it in and pressed a few buttons and it's working fine. It's a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch. Has a faint green and flickering orange light on the charger. I've tried resetting the SMC and the basic troubleshooting steps. I'm tired of going to the genius bar for a 5 minute fix. I can't turn it back on after it suddenly shuts off. Power button is not responding. It was updated and working fine. Im a student and can't afford to have this problem every week. What is the issue?

Just face facts - if water (or any other liquid) reached you logic board or any other electronic components, you're going to be the victim of corrosion.
Eventually, you'll need to have the logic board replaced. There are liquid sensors all over your MBP and the techs can tell if these have been activated. I wouldn't turn the computer on at all - if it were me, I would take it to your local Apple Store/AASP and get an estimate for repair. Rice & other desiccates may 'dry up' the liquid, but it won't undo the damage already done.

  • How can I switch the region code on MBP w/ DVD drive for the 5th and final time?

How can I switch the region code on MBP w/ DVD drive for the 5th and final time? It brings up the window with that world map to do it, including the warning that "this is the 5th and final time I can do this", when inserting a DVD and opening "DVD Player", but it never executes my click on the "Change Drive Region" button prompt.
VLC or Quicktime Player won't play it either, but won't bring up that window to change Region Code anyway....
Otherwise, I'm not having any other issues with this MBP at all. Peak performance on all counts :-)
I tried resetting SMC after chatting w/ Apple Support, but it didn't help.
That was the link they provided. Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
    Tried zapping PRAM as well.
    Thanks for any clues, Rene

Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed. However see this also:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25416?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:

Does that happen when using it both with mirrored and extended desktop?

  • Starcraft Issues w/ Newest MBP's

The newest refresh of the MacBook Pro's seem to have brought more than new specs and new features: there have been many reports of Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War being unable to load.
Has anyone had any success with these games on the latest (2-26-08) MBP's?
Blizzard (or at least a Blizzard forum moderator) knows about the issue and is encouraging people to post their specs in this post:
    http://www.battle.net/forums/thread.aspx?ForumName=support&ThreadID=535846

    Aznupward,
Here is a copy of a reply I posted in another thread regarding this. The short answer is that the latest update of Leopard removed the 256 color support needed to play older games like Starcraft. A guy who posts as KarlKFI created a fix for this which works, but it is no longer available at the address he posted. His fix reverts the drivers back to version 10.5.2, and saves your current driver congiguration for 10.5.4 as a back up. It may have caused some issues for me which, which you will see if you read my reply to his post. If you decide to use it, make sure you back up your computer first. I have just spent a week trying to sort all this out, and this post contains most of what I went through trying to get this to work. Your best bet is to install an older version of windows (anything but vista!!!) using Boot Camp (free and already on your Mac in Utilities) or VMware Fusion (available at VMware.com for 80 bucks). Then just run Starcraft on that. Here is the reply:
    KarlKFI,
First off, I am not that great with computers in general, so excuse me for being a bit slow. I wanted to post all this info in one place so that other people can avoid my starcraft nightmare.
I downloaded Pacifist and I ran your package to revert the drivers to 10.5.2. Here is the link although this page is now missing.
    http://www.karlkfi.com/archives/2008/07/mac-os-10531054-nvidia-256-colors.html
It worked awesome, and I could play starcraft again, but when I went to uninstall it to revert back to the updated drivers, it of course prompted me to restart my computer. Upon restarting I got stuck at a blank blue screen. I am assuming this is similar to the blue screen that people have been getting when they update Leopard. Possible fixes are here but they are a pain.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1545?viewlocale=en_US
I learned that a blue screen also can be caused by "incompatible login items". Discussion is here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7507554&#7507554
I managed to get it working again by booting into safe mode by holding down the Shift key after powering back on. At this point I went into System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items and removed them. I only had one login item which was associated with itunes. After this I seemed to have no problem. However, I am going out to buy an external hardrive and back up everything before I consider jacking around with the drivers again.
Also, I noticed that the page containing your Driver revert package is down. What happened? As far as I know it is the only simple fix in existence.
