EXC_BAD_ACCESS on Office softwares
Hi
After I installed the latest update for Office for Mac 2011 last week on my Macbook Air (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5) I ow got the following error each time I am opening any of the Office softwares (Word, PPoint, Xcel):
EXC_BAD_ACCESS
And it crashes and I haven't been able to use any of the 3 softwares since then.
Anybody has encountered this problem and had it fixed?
thanks
Laurent

I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word (for 2008), and stuck in a loop?
Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.
Cheers,
JackFirst, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop). Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts. Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards). You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.
Good luck. -
I'm trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 Professional. I am running on Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit. I have previously installed the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional trial version, but later uninstalled it when the trial ran out.
I have tried changing the permissions in Office software Protection Platform. I've also tried running a bat file (it didn't run) and I also tried giving the system all network controls as MS has insisted. Nothing has worked yet. Please help.Hi tronixmart, the problem is not a bad key. . .
First of all, if you are using Win 7 Home Premium (as I am), Home Basic, or Starter, you will not have a Local Users and Groups option. It is only for Win 7 Ultimate, Professional, or Enterprise.
Jennifer Zhan's second suggestion regarding the changing of 'This account' to 'Local system account' under the "Log on" tab in the properties window of Office Software Protection Platform is better, but still not adequate. If you try this, as I
did, and then manually start Office Software Protection Platform before continuing the Office 2010 installation from the point of error, you will receive a new surprise. The Error 1920 message goes away, but then it is replaced with an oh-so-descriptive dialogue
box telling you that "Microsoft Office 2010 installation encountered an error." Nice.
Changing 'This account' to 'Local system account' is useless, because after the error described above, the system somehow reverts the log on selection for Office Software Protection Platform back to 'This account,' with 'Network service' selected by default.
The better solution is to give the user account called 'Network service' full permissions for the appropriate folders and registry entries. Simply follow these instructions I found on another forum:
In Windows Explorer:
Right Click on the folder OfficeSoftwareProtection Platform
from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared and Microsoft from
C:Program data(hidden folder) Properties > Security > Edit > Add > Type Network Service > OK > Check the Full control box > Apply and OK.
In Registry Editor (regedit.exe):
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID registry >Right Click on the folder > Permissions > Add > TypeNETWORK SERVICE > OK > Check Full Control > Apply > OK
This worked for me and many others with the same problem, and took mere minutes to do. -
I have an excel spreadsheet that needs to be transferred from a PC to my imac. I downloaded the numbers app, but the spreadsheet isn't appearing like the original in the numbers program. Drop boxes aren't working the same and things are moved around. Will I need to now purchase the mac office software or will I still have the same problem?
More compatible are OpenOffice or NeoOffice. Also if you are using a PowerPC Mac you may not be able to use the most recent Office anyway. Make sure the version of Office you get is compatible with your Mac. PPC indicates PowerPC, which was only found on Macs early 2006 and older. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to determine which CPU is on your Mac. If it says G3, G4, or G5 it is PowerPC. If it says Intel Core you can upgrade to Snow Leopard minimum and possibly the latest Office, if it says Intel Core2Duo (with the 2 in the middle) or Core i with some number you may be able to upgrade to Lion, but certainly no trouble wiht the latest Office.

Can I use my current ms office on my MacBook Pro on my iPad or must I purchase new ms office software for iPad?
Hi,
There's an app called Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) in the app store. It's the fourth highest 'paid' app and the third highest 'grossing' app in the business category. (Go to the app store, then click on categories, then business. Then over on the right under top grossing and top paid you can click on Jump and read the reviews.)
You can work from your ipad with documents, spreadsheets, etc., make changes in them on your ipad and they will be reflected on your computer (mac or pc.) And you don't need a cellular ipad to make the connection. All you need to do is have your MBP on at home with a wireless network and be in an area where you have wireless access to connect your ipad (or iphone) with your MBP at home.
Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) RDP/VNC will let you access your mac and all of your mac programs like MS Word, Excel, etc., as they are on your ipad. There's a free trial at jumpdesktop.com. If you like it you can then come back to the App store and buy it. Please note that there are many free apps that will help but you might have to spend extra time adapting your work to an ios app as many (most?) do not translate from mac to ipad well.
Please read the reviews in the app store (I suggest you start with the most recent ones) and read reviews by pro tech reviewers.
Hope this helps. -
I have been looking for a office software package but I did not find it at apple store, only by microsoft webpage.
You can purchase and download at www.mactopia.com.
Microsoft does not sell its software through Apple. -
Mac Compatible Windows Office software
Dear All,
I've just installed my Mac compatible Windows Office software but there is this pop up that says that an 'unexpected error has taken place at the Windows Library Frame'. I wonder what it is. Does anyone have the same experience, or could anyone enlighten and help on this?
Thanks!
McIdiotI had the same experience and I HATE these people who tell you its not a mac problem! IF they don't know and have no experience, why bother answering, huh?!
Wow... that's a lot of unnecessary anger you've got built up there.
Templeton Peck is correct... as usual.
Apple Discussions is NOT a support forum for Microsoft products, and provided the proper direction to the user so they would receive the best possible assistance.
I see you are fairly new here, so perhaps I can offer some advice for you.
Try not to HATE the experienced volunteers here, as you yourself may need help from someone in the future.
Be polite. That's one of the guidelines here. -
Compatible office software for bootcamp
I have installed bootcamp and it is very successful running windows 7. I need a (preferably free) word processor/spreadsheet suite. Have looked at LibreOffice etc but can't find one that's compatible with the MacBookPro OS. Any ideas?
Are you looking for Office software for OS X or Windows? I suppose you are referring to OS X when you say "MacBook Pro OS".
LibreOffice is compatible with both Windows and OS X > http://www.libreoffice.org
Also, you have OpenOffice, but it doesn't have the same support from the community as LibreOffice.
Then, you have paid alternatives like Microsoft Office (for Windows or OS X) and Apple iWork (available in the Mac App Store) -
Does installing lion have an effect microsoft office software installed?
Im thinking of installing lion onto my macbook pro.
WIll it have an effect on the microsoft office software that i have installed?
Regards
AngeloDepends on what version of Office you have installed.
2004 won't work at all.
2008 and 2011 will work fine.
Some people have a PowerPC based installer for 2008. If that is your case, then you can install Lion and everything will continue to work, but if you have to reinstall office for some reason, it won't work. -

How do I remove the pre-installed Microsoft Office software from my T61 running XP-Pro?
I've reviewed the Lenovo support item on uninstall instructions but it does not say how to get the software off of my hard drive. Here's the Lenovo item.
To properly uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 Trial from the Lenovo preload, the following applications must be removed.
2007 Microsoft Office System
Activation Assistant for the 2007 Microsoft Office Suites
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007
Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
MS SQL Server 2005
MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
MS SQL Server VSS Writer
Uninstalling the Microsoft Office 2007 Office System will not remove all the components.
Uninstalling Business Contact Manager for Outlook will also uninstall MS SQL Server Components. During the uninstall routine, it will ask to delete the mail data file that contains the Business Contact Manager. Clicking OK, will remove the BCM, but not the SQL server apps, as the uninstall states.
From this point uninstall:
Activation Assistant,
MS Office 2003 Web Components
MS Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies,
MS Office Small Business Connectivity Components.
Then remove the MS SQL Server Components of server native client, server setup support files, and VSS writer.
Then remove the Activation Assistant shortcut from the desktop.
The first 3 apps listed are not installed because I have not run the activation assistant for the Office trial that came with the T61. Add/Remove programs has only these pre-installed apps:
Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
MS SQL Server 2005
MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
MS SQL Server VSS Writer
Is the activation assistant one of them? I want to inactivate it because it is occasionally triggered somehow. Besides unintalling those preinstalled apps, I want to take all of the Office components off of my hard disk.
Add/Remove also has these apps but I'm thinking they are not part of Office -- please correct me if I'm wrong
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard 1.52
FYI, I am using Lotus Suite and OpenOffice.
How do I tidy this up without creating more trouble? Thanks in advance for suggestions.lunagirl wrote:
The first 3 apps listed are not installed because I have not run the activation assistant for the Office trial that came with the T61. Add/Remove programs has only these pre-installed apps:
Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
MS SQL Server 2005
MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
MS SQL Server VSS Writer
Is the activation assistant one of them?
No, AFAIK should be listed as Microsoft Office Suite Activation Assistant

HT3231 how to transfer ms office software from mac to mac
how to transfer MS office from iMac 2007 to iMac 2008?
You need to reinstall whichever version of office you own onto the new Mac. You can't simply move, copy, or transfer most software from computer to computer. You will need to have the install DVD (if an older version of Office) and the license key to install it.
If you no longer have those, then you should consider purchasing a subscription version of Office 365 (http://products.office.com/en-us/compare-microsoft-office-products). -
How do you view a Windows Powerpoint without buying the entire Mac Office software?
I have Pages and OS Lion. I don't want to buy more software to view powerpoints my teachers post online. When I open them up normally, it opens in Preview, which is fine cause I just want to read them, not edit them. But in Preview it distorts (enlarging the text) on only a few slides but I can't reformat them so I have all the words in view. What should I do.
There are several free work-alike packages to Microsoft office for the Mac:
Open Office
Neo Office
these are equivalent to Mac Office, and should open PC versions of files as well.
