Excel 2010 ignores print server's default color settings.

Excel 2010 ignores print server's default color settings.
Our Setup:
Printers are hosted on Server 2008 R2 Print Server.
Two local printers are created on the print server for each Xerox MFP that we have.   Example: Xerox MFP (B&W) - Default settings are set to print black and white only.    Xerox MFP
(Color) - Default settings are set to print color.     So for every MFP we have two printers are created.
Both variations of the network printers are deployed to the users with the Black and White version being the default.    If a user needs to print something in color, they select the Color version of the MFP printer.   This
helps us save on color toner costs.
This works great for web applications, Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader, and other applications.   But, it doesn't seem to work in Microsoft Excel 2007 or 2010.   Whatever the default printer is of the two versions that are deployed,
excel seems to hold onto those printer settings.
Example: If your default printer is Xerox MFP (B&W), when you select Xerox MFP (Color), it still retains the Black and White selection in the printer properties.  However, if you select a completely different model printer such
as Fax, and then go to  Xerox MFP (Color), it will pick up the necessary default color settings.
If I install the printers locally on the user's PC/Computer, it works perfectly.   However, it doesn't work when they are utilizing the print server's printers.
Things that I have tried:
Different drivers for Xerox.  Global, PS, PCL.
Different brands of printers.   Still experience the same issue.
Different port names.
Different protocols, raw versus LPR.
Different versions of excel, 2007 and 2010.
Looked through group policy to see if I could force it.
Checked the excel sheet settings, black and white only was not selected.
Tried most of the printer properties settings.
Created a Server 2012 print server and experienced the same result.
Xerox's custom configuration file editor.
*Something to note, if I have the black and white version utilize PostScript Drivers and the color version utilize PCL driver, it correctly loads the color settings.   However, if you utilize Postscript for both versions, it doesn't.
I have to vary the print drivers.  Ideally, I don't want to have to do this because I want consistency between prints.

Hi,
Make sure you have the latest printer drivers - go to the manufacture's website, download and install if necessary.

  • Default Color Settings on Macbook Pro Retina

    Hi All,
I am using a 15" MBP Retina. I plugged it to a projecter and I think it kind of changed my display settings and I don't know what they were. What is the default color setting that comes with this ? Is it Color LCD (In System Preferences -> Display -> Color) ?
    Thanks.

  • Can one set up Lightroom to allow use of manufacturer's printer profiles and Advanced Color Settings

I like the effects that I can apply to my B&W images using Advanced Color Settings, but understand that I get best print quality using the manufacturer's paper profiles. However, I get locked out of Advanced Color Settings unless I choose "Managed by Printer". Can I do both - select a specific paper profile and use Advanced Color Settings? Thanks

I don't know what printer you are using. But if you want to use all of the controls in the Lightroom print module you need to let Lightroom manage the color. For my printer, this requires making that choice in Lightroom and then disabling color management in the printer driver. Then, using Lightroom, I am able to use all of those settings and choose the appropriate profile provided by the paper manufacturer.
With my printer, if I choose to let the printer manage the color, I can make all of those choices in the printer driver. But you cannot split your management between Lightroom and your printer.  You have to go one way or the other.

  • Office 2010 Ignores Printer Settings

I've seen this problem posted other places with no real resolution presented. - Here it is -
Ever since installing office 2010 I have several end users / customers that are unable to successfully keep print settings changed in Office 2010.  The settings in office 2010 themselves work fine, but if you try to change the printer properties they
get reset as soon as you change them.  An example is network MFPs that are set to B/W by default.  The customer changes to color on the printer properties, but word and excel seem to ignore those settings.  Acutally worse than ignore they reset
them to the default properties for the printer.  If you click on the properites, change them, click ok - then before printing I click on the properties again and they have already been reset.  This is a big issue for several customers - they need
to access the properties to set to color, change other settings, or use shortcut items for specific types of document printing.
Also, the problem didn't exist until they installed office 2010.  They can print successfully from any other application with the ability to change any settings needed.
    David

    Hello all,
I think I may have a solution for your problem. The actual problem exists in office 2003 and was an easy fix but I have been ratting my brains since I started doing tech support for MFD finding in office 2010, I would see the problem know the solution but
not be able to find the properties in office seeing they move them. A client would click on print select tray 2 or options and office would seem to ignore it. My work around was to get them to print to PDF then print there item selecting the print options
they wanted through print driver properties.
In 2003 office you click File ---> Page Setup ----> then click the paper tab page and depending on your printer you will get options like
    Default Print settings
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
and a paper drop down box A4 A3 etc. This was a real problem as if it was on A4 and they where trying to print a3 selecting it through the print driver the MFD would ask for A4 paper instead of A3.
Ok so in 2007 2010 office this is where the options are causing the problem I only found it on thursday and as I dont have 2010 office at home I will have to double check these menu options when I am at another client but I should get it close enough for
    you to find.
Click OFFICE icon in office word go to print, there is a rectagular box I believe it was called WORD OPTIONS or Office Options. next there is a lot of tab options, Advance is the one you want. Click on ADVANCE. Scroll right down and you will see
    print and copy options.
Here you will see you overiding options
and it will be based on the print driver you have selected
Default Printer Options (Usually the one it is on) but I believe auto is what you want.
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
Also there is a few check box options I have not played with yet but one that caught my eye that was checked was along the lines of Shrink all print to A4 I would un check this.
So this is where you problem should be solved. Please keep in mind they I only just found this out so I do need to play around with the options a little more to understand there full affect but I think what I said is pretty accurate. I will re post and edit
    if I find other wise.
Something else to note. I believe having the Default Printer Options selected is the main problem. I believe this means if you are in office and you click print ---> print properties and select all the options you want it does not mean a damm,
because these word options under page setup(2003) and Advanced (2010) actually grabs the print drivers default setting i.e start ----> Control panel ----> printers and device then what ever options are set there will overide all other options you set
in the print driver from word.
I have only played with this on 2010 in word, did not check if the options are there for excel and access but I guessing its standard. Have fun let me know how you go.

    Hi, Everyone
I really need your help for Excel 2010.

For 2010, Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options. Click on Save.
Under 'Preserve Visual Appearance of the workbook'
    Click on Colors
Click on 'dropdown box' of Copy Colors from and select the file I want to copy the colors from and click OK.
Click OK to close the Excel Options dialog box.
In Excel 2010, I cann't find the color imported in the color palette, nor use it of cause.
If you have any idea, please don't hesitate put your answers, I really need the solution for it. Thanks in advanced

    Hi,
I tried the following and it worked!
To copy your existing colour palette to a document or template in Excel 2010:
    <dir>
Open the file (containing the existing colour palette to copy) with version Excel 2010
    Go to tab "Page Layout"
Click on the Icon "Themes" (Themes menu)
Go to the bottom page and click "Save current Theme..."
Give a name with extension *.thmx (e.g. "mycolours.thmx")
The theme will be available to use and copy in other existing Excel documents repeating the actions described.
For new documents the recommendation is to create a workbook or a template.
    </dir>

  • 2008 R2 PDC with DNS, File and Print Server Roles

    Hi all,
we have a brand new Canon iRA7260 setup on 2008 R2 print server, which is also our DC, DNS, DHCP and File Server with latest PCL5c drivers downloaded from Canon's website as recommended at that time by the canon technician who assembled the
machine. All our laptops and desktops are running Windows 7 64-bit and after creating a GPO everyone got connected to the printer no problem, the printer has a static IP, same subnet as the print server and PDC, printer's port has been setup to RAW
and to spool documents, driver isolation setup to default.
All users are setup for secure print, so every print job they send to the printer stays on the printer until they walk up to the machine and release it by punching in a department's pin. Everything works great except for every morning a get a few complaints
that the jobs sent to the printer did not appear in the secure print folder. There is no errors of any kind on workstations and all I see in the print job logs on the print server is that document been spooled, printed and deleted. The strange thing is that
the size of the document that disappears is always shown as 0 bytes in size and 1 page long. And the whole process of spooling printing and deleting happens within 1 second according to logs. There is no errors or warnings in the log except for informational
    events.
I just discovered that what actually fixes this issue for me is not even restarting the print spooler on the print server, but just login into the print server from my workstation via RDP with admin credentials. Once I login into the server remotely,
every print job sent to the printer afterwards from every workstation in our office appears as usual in users secure print mailboxes. Users don't even have to reboot their work stations, everything just starts working as usual. There is no overnight activities
on that server as all our staff leaves the offices by 8 p.m. the latest and the only thing that is running overnight is the Symantec's Backup Executive backup jobs. Is it possible that a back up job could somehow affect the print server/print driver settings
or put it into a "sleep" mode so it would require a domain admin login to the server to bring it back into operational state?

Hi, the print server had default permissions set after the role was installed. I just added domain users and authenticated users with print and view server rights. I don't think this is a problem though because Samsungs Brothers and Xerox printers
are working. It looks like some process that runs at night on the print server disallows users to print to the Canon printer when they come in in the morning. Login remotely with admin credentials into the 2008 R2 that has print server role installed and this
canon printer deployed via GPO fixes this immediately for all users. After the printer works fine until the last staff leaves the office. However when I come in in the morning everyone reports to me the same problem which again I'm able to fix by login with
my domain admin credentials. Could this be due to some special permissions that canon drivers require to be added that I'm not aware of? Or could this be caused by the overnight Backup Executive 2010 R3 backup job that kicks in at 9 p.m. every night?
    Thanks

Probably more reading than you want to do (and not sure if you're using Excel 2010), but I found this:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-excel/in-excel-2010-cannot-get-gridlines...
And maybe the Reader's Digest version of a solution?
After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and a small rain forest later this suggestion works:
    On existing Excel 2010 Spreadsheets
In the Excel 2010 document, Print Preview and Print>Printer Properties>Advanced>Document Options>Print Optimizations: change setting to Disable. Save the file.
Hopefully to work on new Excel 2010 Spreadsheets
My computer>printers, or printers and devices>printer preferences, change 'Printer Optimization' from 'Enabled' to 'Disabled', then apply.
Fingers crossed this will work on new spread sheets.

  • Reset hp envy 4500 printer to default factory settings

The printer indicates that the cartridges are not suitable for this printer. That is strange, because both cartridges are original HP cartridges. I'm looking for a way to reset the printer to the default factory settings, but I can't find a way to do this neither in the manual nor on the printer itself. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you very much.

did you find a way to resolve this? i am having the same error message and when i called for support, they said i just needed to buy a new printer.  Because of this error message blocking the entire screen, I cannot reset anything or access the main menu. It seems like it's an issue that needs to be fixed manually by taking the printer apart simply because there is not an emergency trick mentioned by staff or by manual that I have found. Any help besides replacing the idiot box all together?

  • Print Server WPS54G

Whats the model number of your Router?
Hardwired the Print Server to your Router, login to the setup page of your router and under the DHCP Client table list your will find the IP address of your Print Server... Using that IP address you can try to login to the setup page of Print Server...
Once login to the setup page of Print Server, Input the wireless settings (SSID, Security Key) on it and click on Save Settings, then assign a Static IP to the Print Server and click on Save Settings..

  • Photoshop 7 Color Settings

I recently installed Photoshop 7 on my PC and when I open the program the default color settings appear all yellow and green toned and not true RGB. I have tried messing with the settings but I cannot seem to solve the problem. It would be easier if I could show the screen shot of what I am talking about. Hopefully someone out there has experienced the same issues. Please help.
By the way I work for a large fortune 500 company and the software is installed through a server which allocates the licenses. I dont know if there may be a bug in the program but maybe that has something to do with it.
    Any help would be great.

Your display profile is bad - replace it.
This is a common problem when people install the first color managed application (most applications don't use the display profile, so it can be bad and you won't notice).
(and there is no "true RGB" - every display's RGB is different)

  • Who's in charge of pdf export: Dialog box or Color settings?

Bridge has synchronized the color settings of all of my apps. But, I needed to export a pdf which uses different color settings. When I try to do so, I get this warning:
The preset specifies source profiles that don't match the color settings file. Profiles specified by the color settings file will be used.
So, who's in charge here? Why should a set of defaults override the specifics of this export? How do I get to be in charge?
    Thanks,
    Gary

If you prepared the file for one print destination and the doc is going to different destination, you want to change the Destination Profile in the Advanced tab to the new CMYK profile and leave your document profile (source profile) alone.
You shouldn't have any problem doing this at least in CS2 or 3. Just keep in mind the PDF will have new CMYK values, which would happen with any CMYK to CMYK conversion.
If you are sending the file to a new destination and you don't want CMYK conversions, you have to assign new profiles to the document and that can't be done via PDF export, which makes sense because assigning a new profile may change the appearance of any document CMYK colors and you might want to make adjustments to those colors before exporting.
Also, keep in mind if you are using the default Color Settings where the CMYK Policy is Preserve Embedded profiles, a CMYK profile is assigned to your document when it is made. In that case changing your color settings via Bridge has no effect on that particular document because it is the assigned profile which color manages not the new working space set in Color Settings. To change a document's assigned profile you have to use Edit>Assign Profiles... not Bridge.

  • Why are some websites turning hot pink in Firefox? In IE it's fine. I can't read text and buttons are missing as well as some photos. It's really difficult and I've already checked my Color settings. Help?

I've recently tried to make the switch to Firefox as we all know IE is unsafe and my computer was almost lost to a virus. However, it's been difficult as I can't log into my e-mail (after thirty seconds I get kicked back to the login page) and some screens come up as a violently pink color with pale blue font. Links disappear and often times the wording is rewritten in Times font over a button. Pictures disappear and simply say where the photo came from (like "Photo courtesy of the AP") I've tried to adjust settings but it's not helping any.

You can check the default color settings:
    * Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors
Also make sure that "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" has a check mark.

  • Outlook 2010 only pick up the default printer, ignore the manually selected printer.

when I want to print paper through word or excel, I select printer-A, I got the paper from printer-A, which is fine. but in Outlook 2010, I did the same selection of Printer-A, and the outlook show the printer-A had been selected, but the paper was came

    is anyone having this problem?

    Hi,
I've seen some add-ins caused this issue, please start Outlook in Safe Mode to print:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.
If then there's no problem selecting the printer to print, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which caused the problem.

  • Excel 2010 not using the default print settings

Currently got an issue with Excel 2010 not using the default print settings for a couple of users on our network,
basically when pressing cntrl P or selecting the print option from the file menu the printer settings are different to the print settings selected in the devices and printers menu, we have checked the print drivers etc but this has still not resolved the
issue, all other office programs are fine and also other users are reporting this issue more and more with different printers,
tried restarting print spooler service and re-installing office but this has come to no avail,
any ideas would be much appreciated!

    Hi,
This issue occurs because the Page Setup settings that you specify in your file override the settings that you specify in the printer driver properties.
To work around this issue, do not specify the paper size, page orientation, or page margins in the printer driver properties. Instead, specify these settings in your workbook.
To specify these settings, follow these steps:
1.Start Excel, and then open the workbook you want to change.
2.In Microsoft Office Excel 2010, click the sheet that you want to print, and then click the Page Layout tab. In the Page Setup group, click Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog box.
    3.Click the Page tab.
4.Under Paper size, click the paper size that you want.
    5. Click Options button and in Printing Shortcuts tab, in the Paper source area, perform one of the following steps:  ◦If the printer can automatically select the correct paper tray to use, click Default tray in the First page list, and then click Default
tray in the Other pages list.
Default tray is the default setting in both of these lists.
◦If the printer cannot automatically select the correct paper tray to use, you may have to select the paper tray that contains the paper size that you selected in step 4.
To do this, click the appropriate paper tray in the First page list and in the Other pages list.
6.If you want to change the page orientation or its page margins, click the Finishing tab.
7.Select the options that you want.
    8.Click OK.
9.Repeat steps 2 to 8 for each sheet of your workbook for which you want to specify settings.

  • Outlook 2007/2010 only prints to default printer

We use the following command to add network printers to XP PCs' (this saves each user of the PC having to find and install the network printer themselves)
    rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\machine\printer
This adds the printer for all users of the PC, however Outlook 2007/2010 only allows the user to print to the default printer, regardless of which printer the user selects.
When printing from Word/Excel or any other application the print goes to the selected printer.
Has anyone else had this problem, and found a solution, or know why Outlook only prints to default but other office applications print to other printers correctly ?
    Thanks
    Steve

I am having a similar issue to ferdz2013.
I am running terminal services on server 2008 R2.  This is in a domain environment, the user has permissions to the color printer in question and can print to it using Word and notepad.  However in Excel, it will not print to the color printer.
Even if I select the color printer as the default printer, it only prints to another BW printer.  In fact, there are .......
Well, as I was writing this, after troubleshooting it for an hour, it fixed itself.  I was going into his control panel to count the network printers installed (about 5) of which he could only choose from 2 in excel. Suddenly, he has only
two installed.  We can print to it, but we can't choose color now.
I believe this is a domain controller issue, where he is attached to one DC, and I am attached to a second DC, where I change the AD permissions.  It took an hour for them to exchange this information.
Just something else to think about.
Now I need to figure out why he can only select BW.
