Excel 2010 not gaining focus correctly

I am seeing this on my own workstation, but I'm being asked about it by more and more clients lately - Excel 2010 seems to have odd focus issues. For example:
a) When opening an Excel spreadsheet from Windows Explorer, Excel opens, appears to have focus and does correctly open on top of other open windows, displays the file and I can edit cells, but I cannot click anything in the Ribbon bar or menus. In order
to gain access to menu items I first have to lose focus (by clicking to another open application, the Task Bar or Desktop - anything that takes focus away from Excel) and then click back into Excel, whereupon the menu items now work correctly.
b) If Excel is already open and I open another Excel file from Windows Explorer, the new window isn't brought forward - it remains behind the previously open spreadsheet. In addition, Excel isn't given focus at all in this situation - it is retained by Windows
Explorer (which may or may not be open on the same screen as Excel, although it's more obvious if they overlap as Excel clearly remains behind the Explorer window). Additionally, if all existing spreadsheets are closed but Excel remains open and I open a spreadsheet
from Explorer, the same behaviour occurs (ie Excel fails to gain focus and it is retained by Explorer).
My personal workstation is running Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 (this behaviour was evident before SP1's release) and Excel 2010 version 14.0.4760.1000 (32-bit). I have seen it occuring on other PCs using both 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 Pro and Excel
2010 (all 32-bit). While the workaround is relatively simple, it's still frustrating (and more than a little confusing for many non-technical people - one of my clients has been frustrated by this for weeks before I discovered she was experiencing the issue).
I find it a little strange that I have been unable to find references to this problem anywhere (and I've been looking on-and-off for several months now). Maybe I'm just looking for the wrong things... Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

I'm really not sure about the ethics of people being able to mark their own replies as accepted answers on here...
Jennifer, thank you for attempting to assist with this problem. Unfortunately your suggestion doesn't alleviate the issue.
As I thought I made clear in my first post, this issue is being seen when opening Excel spreadsheets directly from Explorer (or a desktop shortcut or similar, which is just an Explorer instance anyway) - it doesn't occur if you open files from within Excel.
Therefore, opening Excel in Safe Mode has no effect - you can open one instance of Excel in safe mode, but when you open another Excel file from outside Excel, of course it opens another instance of Excel in normal mode and the same symptoms are evident.
However, your suggestion regarding add-ins was a sensible one, so I manually removed the two Adobe Acrobat add-ins that were active on my workstation (the only add-ins installed) but unfortunately that hasn't made any difference. I should also point out
that these add-ins aren't installed on the other PCs that are experiencing this issue, either, as they are used in wholly different environments.
I'll be setting up Office 2010 on some new PCs in a couple of days, so I'll do some testing of those to see if I can replicate it on virgin systems.

  • Excel 2010 not using the default print settings

    Currently got an issue with Excel 2010 not using the default print settings for a couple of users on our network,
    basically when pressing cntrl P or selecting the print option from the file menu the printer settings are different to the print settings selected in the devices and printers menu, we have checked the print drivers etc but this has still not resolved the
    issue, all other office programs are fine and also other users are reporting this issue more and more with different printers,
    tried restarting print spooler service and re-installing office but this has come to no avail,
    any ideas would be much appreciated!

    Hi,
    This issue occurs because the Page Setup settings that you specify in your file override the settings that you specify in the printer driver properties.
    To work around this issue, do not specify the paper size, page orientation, or page margins in the printer driver properties. Instead, specify these settings in your workbook.
    To specify these settings, follow these steps:
    1.Start Excel, and then open the workbook you want to change.
    2.In Microsoft Office Excel 2010, click the sheet that you want to print, and then click the Page Layout tab. In the Page Setup group, click Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog box.
    3.Click the Page tab.
    4.Under Paper size, click the paper size that you want.
    5. Click Options button and in Printing Shortcuts tab, in the Paper source area, perform one of the following steps:  ◦If the printer can automatically select the correct paper tray to use, click Default tray in the First page list, and then click Default
    tray in the Other pages list.
    Default tray is the default setting in both of these lists.
    ◦If the printer cannot automatically select the correct paper tray to use, you may have to select the paper tray that contains the paper size that you selected in step 4.
    To do this, click the appropriate paper tray in the First page list and in the Other pages list.
    6.If you want to change the page orientation or its page margins, click the Finishing tab.
    7.Select the options that you want.
    8.Click OK.
    9.Repeat steps 2 to 8 for each sheet of your workbook for which you want to specify settings.

  • Windows not gaining focus...

    Hello!
    After recent update (I can't recall having this issue before) windows that previously had focus, but lost it after I opened a new window, do not gain focus after I close the new window. This is very irritating, because now I have to click on the old window all the time, even though it is the top window, to give commands to it.
    The same thing happens also when switching spaces - if I have a window with focus in one space, quickly switch to another to check something (without clicking anywhere) and then go back to the first one, I have to click in the window otherwise I can't write or send commands to it. Even though the cursor is in the window and blinking as if it had focus (if it is an input field).
    A concrete example:
    I am writing this text in Firefox in a textbox on a webpage. I switch spaces forth and back. The cursor is still in the textbox and blinking, but whatever I press nothing happens. Firefox is still the active application (it has the menubar).
    I've tried searching, but wasn't lucky to find anything, is it just me?
    BR,
    stormmind

    It work well in my system. Either on appletview and browser.

  • Save As dialog box does not gain focus (bring to foreground) with Windows 7?

    Hello,
    I've got several users with Microsoft Windows 7 (64bit) and Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (OEM) with the same problem.  When you go to Print to your PDF Printer, the Save As... dialog box does not come to the foreground and gain focus.  Most often it just sits in the taskbar blinking to get their attention.
    However the users get frustrated and often don't realize the Save As box popped up at all.  They did not have this problem with Windows XP.
    I actually can replicate the problem on my own PC.
    Any workarounds for this behaviour?
    Thanks,
    -Tim

    This appears to be a Windows 7 focus issue.
    You can back up your registry and try the fix below, it worked for me.
    Fix number 1
    1. Open Start >> Run and type “regedit” (without quotes)
    2. Navigate to the following path:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
    3. Right Click on the empty space and create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value named ‘ForegroundLockTimeout’, set or modify the value to 0. (this value will cause the application to take the focus instantly.)
    4. That’s it Done, exit registry and restart windows for changes to come into effect.

  • Excel 2010 not enough system resources to display completely

    I have searched the web high and low for an answer to this issue we are having with one user who uses Excel 2010 quite extensively and I have not been able to find an answer that resolves the issue.
    She keeps getting the error message "Not enough system resources to display completely."  The spreadsheet in question is a simple two worksheet file that she does simple calculations on.  Her PC is an HP Elitebook 8560w (only 1 month
    old) with an i7 Intel processor, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD with over 300GB free, Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) with all the latest patches and updates & Office 2010 Professional (32-bit).  The video and printer drivers are all update to the latest versions.
    The spreadsheet is one she has used before on her older Windows XP Pro SP3 desktop with no problems.   We have tried the "set the Zoom to 100% or less" resolution that has been mentioned all over the web and it does not work.
    We are still having this issue.  Does anyone know how to resolve this in Excel 2010.  I have seen the "solutions" for Excel XP, 7, 2000, 2003 and 2007 and they don't seem to work, or at least the ones I have tried!  :-)
    Would welcome all serious suggestions.  Mahalo Nui Loa!

    I've had this problem on several computers on our network.  I found various recommendations, but no solid answers.  I have resolved this problem on two computers with
    just the first steps performed.  The third computer require also following the step highlighted in yellow below:
    Deleted all temp files by:
    Start > Run > enter %temp% in the search box and press Enter
    Delete everything from this folder
    Cleared Recent Docs List & Lower Number Displaying:
    File > Options > Advanced > Scroll to Display category > change number of recent documents.  To clear the list, set this to 0 and save.  You can adjust up after that if you choose.
    Delete files from the following folders:
    (may have to view hidden files – top corner drop down > folder options > view tab > Hidden files and folders > select Show hidden files, folders and drives.
    Local Service:
    %windir%\ServicesProfiles\LocalService\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content
    %windir%\ServicesProfiles\LocalService\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\MetaData
    Network Service:
    %windir%\ServicesProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content
    %windir%\ServicesProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\MetaData
    LocalSystem:
    %windir%\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content
    %windir%\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\MetaData
    The above process worked to prevent this problem on two machines, but not another.  On the one that this didn’t work, I also
    Start > Programs > Windows Update > View Update History.  Look for KB# 2597166
    If it exists, click it and uninstall.
    Can also try, though I didn’t.  I may do this first, but I didn’t feel this was my issue.

  • JTextArea not gaining focus

    I have a tabbed pane consisting of 2 JPanels. Each panel has a text area (within a scrollpane) on both.
    All I want is for the text area to gain focus when its tab has been clicked.
    I've tried adding a changelistener to the tabbedpane:
            tabbedPane.addChangeListener(new ChangeListener() {
                public void stateChanged(ChangeEvent e) {
                    if (tabbedPane.getSelectedIndex() == 0) {

                    else {
                        textArea2.requestFocus();
            });but the textareas don't get focus. They do when I press <TAB> but this isn't much use.
    Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the textareas to gain focus?

  • Focusable JTextArea not gaining focus.

    I am creating a JTextArea and want to give it the focus when it's created. THis happens twice in the program, and the first time it works, the second time the JTextArea is created but doesn't get the focus until I click on it.
    In both cases the code is called from the Swing event queue (see the output below). In both cases the class which creates the jTextArea is the same (an extension of JPanel), and is added to a new tab in a tabbed pane.
    Because I know that you need to make sure that the component's been created before it gets focus, the code to create it and give it focus is:
    private javax.swing.JTextArea jtaInfo;
    // Class constructor for outer class
      public PanelInfo(String s, boolean editable ) {
        initComponents();  // this is the NetBeans call which creates jtaInfo and a few buttons
        jtaInfo.setText(s);
        jtaInfo.setEditable(editable);
        setVisible(true);
        selectTextBox();
      public void selectTextBox() {
        UtilFunctions.tcaProgramInfoMessage("selectTextBox thread="+Thread.currentThread().getName());
        SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
          public void run() {
            UtilFunctions.tcaProgramInfoMessage("Runnable thread="+Thread.currentThread().getName());
            UtilFunctions.tcaProgramInfoMessage("Info frame focusable: "+jtaInfo.isFocusable());
            if (!jtaInfo.requestFocusInWindow()) {
              UtilFunctions.tcaProgramInfoMessage("Failed to give info pane focus");
      }The UtilFunctions.tcaProgramInfoMessage call produces output with a timestamp.
    The output is:
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:38 GMT 2006: selectTextBox thread=AWT-EventQueue-0
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:38 GMT 2006: Runnable thread=AWT-EventQueue-0
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:38 GMT 2006: Info frame focusable: true
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:44 GMT 2006: selectTextBox thread=AWT-EventQueue-0
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:44 GMT 2006: Runnable thread=AWT-EventQueue-0
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:44 GMT 2006: Info frame focusable: true
    Sat Nov 11 11:25:44 GMT 2006: Failed to give info pane focus
    So it seems that the threads are OK, and the area is focusable, but I can't work out why one succeeds and the other fails. The program's too huge to post here - I may be able to cut it down to size. But is there anything obvious that I might be doing wrong?

    Because I know that you need to make sure that the component's been created before it gets focus,Actually the parent frame or dialog must be "realized" (maybe thats what you mean by "created") before a component can receive focus. This basically means that you've done a pack() or setVisible(true) on the frame. Using setVisible(true) on the actual component does nothing since by default all JComponents are visible.
    The program's too huge to post here - I may be able to cut it down to sizeI fail to see why its so difficult to create a short demo program showing the problem. The code you posted doesn't help because we don't know the context of how the code is executed.
    Below is a simple demo that shows an incorrect version and a correct version in 10 lines of code. So if this code doesn't help solve the problem you will now need to wait hours again until you post a version of your code that does demonstrate the problem. Whereas if you had spent 5-10 minutes to create a demo that doesn't work I may have been able to help you out right now.
    Simplify your problems and the answer will also be simpler.
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class FocusTest
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JTextField textField1 = new JTextField("One");
              JTextField textField2 = new JTextField("Two");
              JTextField textField3 = new JTextField("Three");
              JFrame frame = new JFrame();
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              frame.getContentPane().add(textField1, BorderLayout.NORTH);
              frame.getContentPane().add(textField2, BorderLayout.CENTER);
              frame.getContentPane().add(textField3, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
              // This doesn't work
              textField3.requestFocusInWindow();
              frame.pack();
              // This does work
    //          textField3.requestFocusInWindow();
              frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }

  • Excel 2010 not always taking priority when opened

    Hello,
    I have a user who from time to time cannot click on any commands in Excel. He has to switch to another window, ie his desktop, and then back for commands to become active.
    Details:
    Office 2010 Pro SP2 32-bit
    Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit
    and the computer is on our domain.
    He is the only person experiencing(or reporting) this issue.

    Hi,
    Did the issue occur only in the Excel or all the Office suits? Did he get some error messages when he click on any commands in Excel?
    Please try the below methods to narrow down the issue:
    1. Start Excel in safe mode by pressing and holding Ctrl while you start the program or by using the "/safe" (that is,
    excel.exe /safe) option when you start the program from the command line. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the Excel Add-ins and disable them.
    2. Use the administer account to logon the PC. If it works fine, please check the user profile.
    3. Repair Office 2010.
    4. Upgrade the latest patches.

  • JTextField not gaining focus on initialization of Applet

    I originally tried posting this in the Applets forum but was unable to get a response, so I am re-posting here in hopes of finding an answer.
    I have a simple JApplet with a JFrame, a JTextField added to the JFrame, and a WindowListener added to the JFrame that requests focus to the JTextField whenever the JFrame is activated. Upon opening the applet the WindowListener's windowActivated() method is called and requestFocusInWindow() for the JTextField returns true however the focus is never actually given to the JTextField. According to the API for Component,
    "This method returns a boolean value. If false is returned, the request is guaranteed to fail. If true is returned, the request will succeed unless it is vetoed, or an extraordinary event, such as disposal of the Component's peer, occurs before the request can be granted by the native windowing system. Again, while a return value of true indicates that the request is likely to succeed, developers must never assume that this Component is the focus owner until this Component receives a FOCUS_GAINED event"
    I am assuming that the request is getting "vetoed" but I don't understand why or what this even means. If I alt-tab off of the applet window and alt-tab back on then the request is handled properly. This issue only arises on initially opening the applet. Has anyone seen this issue before? Is there a known workaround? Here is the code for my sample applet:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class MyApplet extends JApplet{
    private JFrame myFrame;
    private JTextField myTextField;
    private FrameWindowListener myListener;
    public void init(){
    myFrame = new JFrame();
    myFrame.setSize(700, 360);
    myFrame.setLocation(100, 100);
    myTextField = new JTextField();
    myFrame.add(myTextField);
    myListener = new FrameWindowListener();
    myFrame.addWindowListener(myListener);
    public void start(){
    myFrame.setVisible(true);
    myFrame.pack();
    public class FrameWindowListener extends WindowAdapter{
    public void windowActivated(WindowEvent e){
    boolean focus = myTextField.requestFocusInWindow();
    if(focus){
    System.out.println("Focus successful");
    } else{
    System.out.println("Focus unsuccessful");
    }

    Don't forget to use the "Code Formatting Tags", so the posted code retains its original formatting.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting
    Works fine for me using JDK1.4.2 on XP using appletviewer.
    The only suggestion I would make is that you should use pack() before setVisible(...). Also I usually have that code in the init() method instead of the start() method.

  • Bringto front, but while not gaining focus

    hi,
    I wish to create an aplication which runs in the background, and at pre-determined times apears at the front of the screen momentairily (ontop of any other programs running), and then goes to the back again.
    However, what i wish to know is: is it possible to do this, but yet allow whatever program had focus at that time, to keep that focus (for keyboard/ mouse/ and any other devices which might send information to the window with focus.)
    is this possible?
    is there a difrence between weather its possible on windows or on linux?
    hope someone can help.

  • Excel Charts do not get displayed correctly (colour) !urgent!

    Hi,
    believe me: I spent days in research to fix my problem but could not find a solution yet...
    I use a lot of Excel Web Parts on my SharePoint Site. Basically to display charts or tables. Everything worked fine for months but out of a sudden some of the web parts do not anymore. These Web Parts still get displayed but all in black or grey and
    because of that are partly unreadable. For example: a cell with a white font and a blue blackground just gets displayed as a black cell with black fontcolour. I thought it might depends on the settings of the server computer but other colourful charts/tables
    still work fine (but on the other hand, all new web parts do not get displayed correctly...)
    I tried to remove macros, conditional formatting, creating completely new subsites with content. But the result is always the same: black cells.
    Then I tried to just use 8bit-colours and tada: it worked (except of the colour white, that still does not work).. I do not have access to the server computer. And I am wondering because some other charts still work..
    Any ideas?
    I do not use SharePoint Designer, just the browser version of 2010.
    Thanks for your help!!!

  • BW 3.5 / GUI 7.20 / Excel 2010 : RRMX not working properly

    Hi,
    We are here working on BW 3.5 with GUI 7.20 FEP 2.
    BEx 3.5 is being used on Office 2010.
    When we run a workbook from SAP GUI (user menu), then Excel 2010 is opening but:
    - Thereu2019s no automatic connection to BW as it should.
    - The workbook doesn't show up.
    - We have the following message in the SAP GUI status bar: "Please install Excel as a viewer".
    Same thing happens when we run RRMX alone.
    Any idea on how to correct that bug would be greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
    This is an installation issue. reinstall both the Excel 2010 and SAP GUI7.20 with latest patch along with .net component also.
    For an intermediate solution, just copy the file "BExAnalyzer.xla" (normally located in "C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI") to the path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\SAP Shared\BW".
    Or  follow the steps given in the below link
    http://www.sytecpa.org/software/BWInstructions/Installing%20the%20SAP%20BEx%20Analyzer%20Excel%20Add-In.pdf

  • OpenXML Excel file, works in Excel 2007, OpenOffice, etc but not in Excel 2010

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem.  I host a free website, sharing source code and ideas with other developers.  One of my projects is a very simple C# class, which generates an Excel 2007 .xlsx file.  All source code is provided, along with a demo showing
    how to use it, free of charge.  No registration required.
    http://www.mikesknowledgebase.com/pages/CSharp/ExportToExcel.htm
    The .xlsx files that this class generates are fine, they open in Excel 2007 & OpenOffice, I've run the OpenXmlValidator
    on the files, and there are no reported problems.
    However, If I open the file in Excel 2010 (with SP1), it opens, but if I go to the Print or Print Preview screen, Excel 2010 crashes.
    Googling around, I've found that many many users have experienced problems with HP print drivers, I followed some suggestions, such as turning off multi-threading in Excel, but it makes no difference.  I tried setting the default printer as
    the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer", but it made no difference.
    Here is a copy of the Excel file that my demo produces (and which crashes Excel 2010).   Can someone tell me why it opens okay, but then crashes Excel 2010 ?

    I can get around the problem by loading this file in Excel 2010, saving it as an ".xls" file (!!) and re-loading that... but it kinda defeats the purpose.
    And, more generally, why does Excel 2007, OpenOffice and the OpenXmlValidator consider it to be in the correct format, but it crashes Excel 2010 ?  I'm surprised that Excel 2010 doesn't at least attempt to report some kind of problem with the Excel
    file, rather than bombing out.

    It seems Workbook.XML doesn't have all the information needed by Excel for pagination while prepare for print.
    Using your sample code, here is the XML generated for Workbook.XML part within Open XML package :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <x:workbook xmlns:x="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
      <x:sheets>
        <x:sheet name="Drivers" sheetId="1" r:id="rId1" xmlns:r="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships" />
        <x:sheet name="Vehicles" sheetId="2" r:id="rId2" xmlns:r="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships" />
        <x:sheet name="Vehicle owners" sheetId="3" r:id="rId3" xmlns:r="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships" />
      </x:sheets>
    </x:workbook>
    Replace above content with below XML and print should work fine:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <workbook xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main" xmlns:r="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships">
      <fileVersion appName="xl" lastEdited="5" lowestEdited="5" rupBuild="9303"/>
      <workbookPr defaultThemeVersion="124226"/>
      <bookViews>
        <workbookView xWindow="510" yWindow="510" windowWidth="4455" windowHeight="2520"/>
      </bookViews>
      <sheets>
        <sheet name="Drivers" sheetId="1" r:id="rId1"/>
        <sheet name="Vehicles" sheetId="2" r:id="rId2"/>
        <sheet name="Vehicle owners" sheetId="3" r:id="rId3"/>
      </sheets>
      <calcPr calcId="0"/>
    </workbook>
    The change is not with data but few elements which define the view for Excel. The required code change can be found using Open XML SDK tool code-reflect.

  • Excel 2010 opens document but it is not visible?

    I have one user that when he opens up excel files most of the times they aren't visible. (On occation they are visible.)
    When we try to preview the documents in the printing dialog to are shown correctly.
    The documents are located on the network, a Small business server 2008.
    When we log on to the same computer (Win7 Prof) as another user it works fine. (We have reinstalled the computer)
    It also works when the "problem" user is log on to another computer and opens the documents.
    Are there some kind of security setting on user level in office 2010?

    Hi de0021,
    Could you tell me what’s the meaning of the excel file is not visible? If it was opened as shown in the following figure without spreadsheet? Or it is a normal spreadsheet just without contents in the cells. And did you get any pop up message bar from file
    when you open it?
    You said the same file with other user’s account worked fine.
     I suggest to check if the permission of the user’s account on the network is different from other normal users’ accounts. If yes, try to modify this user’s permission and try again.
    Or this issue might be caused by DDE in excel. If you use Excel 2010 you might get an error when opening Excel or double clicking an Excel file that says “There Was a Problem Sending the Command to the Program”. Check if the user checked the checkbox “Ignore
    other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)”, as shown in the following figure.
    If possible could you take a screenshot and upload it so that we can get more accurate solutions to this problem. I am glad to help and forward to your reply.
    Hope it’s helpful.

  • Powerpivot 2012 on Excel 2010 - External Data connections not saving passwords, having to re-enter password EVERYTIME I refresh data

    Hey Guys,
    Using Excel 2010 with latest version of Powerpivot 2012 available 11.1.3129.0
    For my SQL Server Data connections in Powerpivot I DO NOT have any issue, when clicking refresh it never asks me to enter a password and uses my Windows AD info.
    However, for my plethora of other external data connections (Informix, Oracle, Etc...) that I would like to have fluid use within Powerpivot, big problems.
    Lets start with Oracle. Below is a screenshot of my connection tab within Powerpivot.
    So as you can see, all the details are entered and Allow Saving Password is selected. Now I will close out of Powerpivot and Excel completely and re-open. I will navigate to the Powerpivot tab
    and select Powerpivot Window. And then will select to "Refresh All" and am quickly prompted with the "Data Source Credentials" window to re-enter my data source password, again.
    What I have already tried. The above method for starters in which I use a connection string under Table Import Wizard --> Others (OLEDB/ODBC)... I found it the least annoying route, although
    still have to re-enter password everytime, which is what I hope this forum can help with.
    I also have tried doing a direct Oracle connection in Table Import Wizard but also does not eliminate my #1 problem.
    I have also created an ODC file to try and use that with stored credentials within the file, also still asks for password each and everytime.
    The same thing happens with my other data connections to Informix and DB2. So any help and/or suggestions anyone has would be great. I also cant upload these powerpivots to our powerpivot gallery
    on SharePoint 2010, I have a sneaking suspicion it is due to the version of powerpivot I am currently using.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    My company is not using Excel 2013, only 2010. So that is what I have to work with. From what I have read this is a huge hole in the Powerpivot 2012 framework and is extremely frustrating. This seems so basic and simple and like something everyone using
    this product would use, and yet it still doesnt work.
    Great feedback. Connect is the right place for this feedback on 2010 as well. Thanks!
