Excel 2010 Status Bar Sum

I recently switched from Excel 2007 to 2010. In 2007 when I highlighted a range of cells that included hidden cells, the SUM in the status bar only displayed the sum of the visible cells - which was very helpful in determining a) whether the range contained
hidden cells with values, if I didn't already know, and b) the actual sum that a person would calculate if the worksheet were printed (basically a check against the SUM() function).
The second feature was particularly important in an industry where we print many reports and want them to be accurate so a user can recalculate the true sum of the numbers he or she is looking at.  However, it appears that in 2010 when highlighting
a range with hidden values, the status bar SUM includes all values, hidden and visible!  This essentially eliminates any check functionality described above.
My question is: can I change the settings so the status bar SUM only includes the sum of visible cells??
It would be EXTREMELY annoying to have to enter a SUBTOTAL() function every time to accomplish what I want.  The advantage of simply highlighting is obviously speed.  I'm not interested in formulas because I know they exist - I only want to know
if I can accomplish the desired result when highlighting cells.  (Fingers crossed.)

Re:  Summing across hidden columns not treated the same as summing across hidden rows.
Oh boy,  you have found an oddity; its new to me and probably to many others.
As a check, I also did sums across and down in XL2003 and the results are the same as in XL2010
It doesn't make sense to me and probably could be classified as a bug, if it hadn't gone on for so long.
I suspect MS is spending all of their Office programming time trying to get Office 2013 to install without crashing.
This issue probably wouldn't garner any attention.

  • Excel x86 2013 status bar missing in SAP

    Hello,
    We are using SAP GUI 7.3 patch 7 and Office Excel 2013.  With this combination, the bottom status bar in Excel does not display. I tried to apply some corrections, but I do not successful.
    My problem is similar to that: Excel 2010 status bar missing in SAP
    Anyone can help me?
    Thank you for everything.

    Hello Douglas,
    I checked this with the standard demo program
    SAPRDEMO_SPREADSHEET_INTERFACE and unfortunately this is a limitation of the SAP inplace
    mode.
    This issue can be replicated outside of SAP by using the FramerEx application by Microsoft which
    can be downloaded for free.
    You can download this from here:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/vc60pro/mdi/1/win98me/en-us/framerex.exe
    If you use this program and use the File -> Open and select any valid .xls file,it will open in the same manner as the inplace mode in SAP
    You will notice the status bar is missing in this case too.
    This is the same technology that SAP use to display the inplace files.
    Best regards,
    Jude

  • Excel 2013 Menu bar not functioning

    If I open an existing spreadsheet in Excel, I can work in the spreadsheet, but none of the ribbon menu functions work, including the close "X" in the corner.  If I open a blank workbook, everything seems to work fine.

    Hi,
    As far as I know, this issue mostly happens when the Excel file is viewed in preview pane and subsequently opens in Excel by double click. This may be the reason that it occurred with an existing file not in a blank file.
    Please try to turn off preview pane:
    1. Right click on the Start Button.
    2. Click 'Open Windows Explorer'.
    3. At the top left click Organize > Layout
    4. Uncheck Details Pane and Preview Pane.
    5. On a Windows menu, click on Tools > Folder Options.  In the box that opens up, click on the View tab.  Scroll down the list to
    “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” and clear the checkbox and then click OK.

  • Feature Request: Microsoft Excel 2013 - Don't hide status bar text on focus lost (AVERAGE, COUNT, SUM)

    Could you please disable hiding of status bar text on focus lost.
    I use this in Excel 2013, where I select a few cells, then move to another Excel to write the sum of those cells as read from the status bar or to check with other values in the second window. This really makes my life easier and I see no reason to hide
    the status bar text when the window looses focus.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    You can also send your feedback to the Office team by the steps as below:
    1. Inside any new Office application you’ll see a yellow smiley face in the top-right corner. Click on the face and choose either
    Send a Smile to send positive feedback or
    Send a Frown to send negative feedback.
    2. In the window that appears, provide details about your feedback or issue. Also, be sure to provide a link to this thread.
    3. Next, you can choose whether or not to send a screenshot. You can also enter your email address so the Office team can contact you directly if they have any questions.
    Note: Most feedback requests do not result in responses from the Office team.

  • Create status bar...... like explorer or word, excel

    is it possible to create a status bar like other application in which we can see the full path of file ane numlock on --off like that

    hi,
    yes you can, just add a jpanel to the bottom (SOUTH if you're using BorderLayout) of your jframe, jdialog, whatever, and place whatever you want on it, such as a jlabel to display a file's full path.

  • Excel 2010 Freezes while saving and computing when large files are opened.

    Hi
    The issue with with MS Office Excel 2010, where in if i open big files like greater than 40 or 50 mb file while saving or computing it takes lot of time
    like say 10 to 15 seconds and some times more also.
    This file i am referring is having around 5,000 row data and with around 15 sheets and has formula's and functions built into it.
    As and when i try to delete or update one of the same the status bar show processing message and starts processing from 0 to 100% this takes
    lot of time and during i feel my excel is frozen or system hanged kind of situation.
    The query is what is the limitation of file size which can be opened in Excel 2010 where i can work with the same without any freeze or hanging.
    need the same for Excel 2007 and 2013 versions also.
    Note : other office products like work, power point works fine without any issue.

    Hi,
    I didn't find the exact size of the limitation of size for Excel 2010, but as for Excel 2013, I can tell you this:
    32-bit environment is subject to 2 gigabytes (GB) of virtual address space, shared by Excel, the workbook, and add-ins that run in the same process. A data model’s share of the address space might run up to 500 – 700 megabytes (MB), but could be less if
    other data models and add-ins are loaded.
    64-bit environment imposes no hard limits on file size. Workbook size is limited only by available memory and system resources.
    I think the articles below will be very helpful to you:
    Excel specifications and limits
    For 2007:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HP010073849.aspx?CTT=1
    For 2010:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HP010342495.aspx?CTT=1
    For 2013:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HA103980614.aspx?CTT=1
    Anyway, many factors may cause the freeze, such as hardware and add-ins, you may try starting Excel in Safe Mode to determine if it's add-ins related:
    Press Win + R and type “excel /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
    If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.

  • BW 3.5 / GUI 7.20 / Excel 2010 : RRMX not working properly

    Hi,
    We are here working on BW 3.5 with GUI 7.20 FEP 2.
    BEx 3.5 is being used on Office 2010.
    When we run a workbook from SAP GUI (user menu), then Excel 2010 is opening but:
    - Thereu2019s no automatic connection to BW as it should.
    - The workbook doesn't show up.
    - We have the following message in the SAP GUI status bar: "Please install Excel as a viewer".
    Same thing happens when we run RRMX alone.
    Any idea on how to correct that bug would be greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
    This is an installation issue. reinstall both the Excel 2010 and SAP GUI7.20 with latest patch along with .net component also.
    For an intermediate solution, just copy the file "BExAnalyzer.xla" (normally located in "C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer\BI") to the path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\SAP Shared\BW".
    Or  follow the steps given in the below link
    http://www.sytecpa.org/software/BWInstructions/Installing%20the%20SAP%20BEx%20Analyzer%20Excel%20Add-In.pdf
    Also check the below note for more info.

  • Extracting a Report from SAP Spool into a Useful Excel 2010 Format

    Hi All,
    Extracting a Report from SAP Spool into a Useful Excel 2010 Format.  I'm currently running the following report in SAP  and would like the
    ability to set this report up as a recurring report running weekly and
    subsequently access this report in a useable Excel 2010 format without
    much data manipulation.  Can you please assist me.  Below, I've tried to
    provide an example of what I'm encountering.   Thanks, beforehand for
    your assistance.
    Here goes:
    Step one: Run 62 Report in SAP S_P99_41000062- Material List Price and
    Inventory
    Step 2. Select stored Variant "Weekly KPI", ok. Enter the enter  the
    desired company code and period I want thre report to run for and update
    the currency, if necessary. Having input my desired criteria, I believe
    I can either execute immediately, run in the background, preset to run
    at date in the future. For this example let's just execute, immediately.
    This is where the difference originates. Given, I run this report
    immediately, I'm able to simply extract the result to Excel via the list
    selection noted in the tool bar below.  The result is a data friendly
    excel 2007  report is automatically generated.
    Export to Excel via list:
    Select save and Excel 2007 opens automatically:
    That said, the method outlined above works perfectly fine if you want
    the report immediately.  Now let go back and run the exact same report
    with exceptoin of running it in the background and having to retrieve it
    from the Spool (SP01) uisng my user ID.  Given the report generated in
    the background,  I would now access the report via the spool and make
    the following selections:
    SP01 + execute to see my report
    I would hit the sunglasses to see the actual report, then want to
    extract this report to Excel by selecting the export option.
    I would at this point select spreadsheet and be given an option to save
    the spreadsheet to local file. However, upon trying to open the
    spreadsheet I will receive an error messageindicating that the format is
    different than that which the file I am currently trying to open it
    with.  I'm currently running Excel 2010 on my computer.  The currency
    format and other issues arrise with this extract.  Please help.
    Thanks,
    Chowadary.

    Update to Latest GUI.
    Use   List -> Export -> Spreadsheet  to get the output to excel.
    I remember in ALV max length allowed is 1023 characters and the max no of columns supported is 90. Issue occurs when row size of exported data gets more than 1023 character. (This includes if Long/Medium Header Text used ) If it exceed 1023 character the columns splits and moves to next row.
    Check your fieldcatog for header lengths.

  • Unable to save MS Word and Excel 2010 and 2013 onto the network share

    Hi,
    I have read similar cases, but did not work out on the problems we face.
    We are using Office 2010 and Windows 7 and it seems like only this combination will encounter saving problem on the networe share (but local / removable disks are fine) -
    Other combinations:
    Windows XP and Office 2010 - no problem
    Windows XP and Office 2003 - no problem
    Windows 7 and Office 2003 - no problem
    In Microsoft Word 2010, when saving a new document, it will save but create a 0KB file in the network share drive and I notice the blue menu bar of the Microsoft Word 2010 still displays "Document1" instead the new file name.
    And only when I click save icon or exit button, Word actually prompts another "Save As" dialog to save the file, and as a result, I have to save the same file and answer MS Word prompt to replace the existing file - and this is the real time that
    the document and its contents really got saved. And the blue menu bar then displays the actual file name.
    In Microsoft Excel 2010 (also Powerpoint I suppose so), in saving a new excel file, after typing in a file name for the new file in the network share location, it will prompt a dialog box indicating the "File is currently in use"
    Similar to MS Word, it will still create a 0KB file in the network share, and only a second time saving and replace the 0KB file, is able to save the file again.
    I have tried a lot of ways from Safe Mode, Disable Add-in, Added Trusted Locations to the network share in MS Word and Excel, Uninstall Antivirus software, redo NTFS permission on the network share server folder, etc but the problem cannot
    be solved.
    Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Daryl

    Thank you Max.
    I have tried various storage configurations and share the folders out in Windows Servers and grant user accesses with AD.
    These drives configuration involves iSCSI drives, using NAS drive, using internal SAS RAID drives in Windows 2008 servers, all having the same errors, but the latter one was having the most errors almost every first time the users
    save their files (includes saving from email attachments), the files will get 0KB.
    I have tested LAN cables, switch LAN points in panels and switches, and comes to no avail.
    I have patched with the latest office updates (the latest being Office 2010 SP2) also to no avail.

  • Persistant Status Bar Notification ... error 'SP.UI.Status' is null or not an object

    I want to show a status bar that needs to be persistent on a page. for this I used the following in my master page
    function ShowStatusBarMessage(title, message)
    var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus(title, message, true);
    SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'yellow'); /* Set a status-color */

    But what I want is
    to call the function on load. So I used pushed ny function to _spBodyOnLoadWrapper using _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("YourFunctionName");,
    it throws an error 'SP.UI.Status' is null or not an object
    Next I created and
    deployed a webcontrol and did a registerclientscript, that too gives me 'SP.UI.Status' is null or not an object
    // Define the name and type of the client scripts on the page.
    String csname1 = "AlertScript";
    Type cstype = this.GetType();
    // Get a ClientScriptManager reference from the Page class.
    ClientScriptManager cs = Page.ClientScript;

    if (!cs.IsStartupScriptRegistered(cstype, csname1))
    StringBuilder cstext1 = new StringBuilder();
    cstext1.Append("<script type=text/javascript> alert('Hello World!');");
    cstext1.Append("var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus('title', 'message', true);");
    cstext1.Append("SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'yellow'); </");
    cstext1.Append("script>");
    cs.RegisterStartupScript(cstype, csname1, cstext1.ToString());
    What am I missing ?
    How can I get to show a status bar on load of any page, just as you get a health analyzer message when you get into the Central Admin?
    Thanks, Mano

    Ok, for some reason, it is not working for me. Below are the code that didnt work for me
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function ShowStatusBarMessage(title, message)
    var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus(title, message, true);
    SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'red');
    ShowStatusBarMessage('Title!','Awesome message!');
    </script>
    This too didnt work
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function ShowStatusBarMessage()
    var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus('Some title', 'Some message', true);
    SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'red');
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("ShowStatusBarMessage");
    </script>
    I did try to register client script block programatically, that too didnt work
    String csname1 = "AlertScript";
    Type cstype = this.GetType();
    // Get a ClientScriptManager reference from the Page class.
    ClientScriptManager cs = Page.ClientScript;
    // Check to see if the startup script is already registered.
    if (!cs.IsStartupScriptRegistered(cstype, csname1))
    StringBuilder cstext1 = new StringBuilder();
    cstext1.Append("<script type=text/javascript>");
    cstext1.Append("var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus('title', 'message', true);");
    cstext1.Append("SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'yellow'); </");
    cstext1.Append("script>");
    cs.RegisterStartupScript(cstype, csname1, cstext1.ToString());
    Any help appreciated.
    But the below code works..
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function ShowStatusBarMessage(title, message)
    var statusId = SP.UI.Status.addStatus(title, message, true);
    SP.UI.Status.setStatusPriColor(statusId, 'yellow'); /* Set a status-color */
    </script>
    <a onclick="ShowStatusBarMessage('Title!','Awesome message!')" href="#">
    Display Status Bar message!
    </a>
    Thanks

  • Excel 2010 "Save As" happens twice

    In Excel 2010, whenever I choose "Save As", it starts normally and performs the requested change. However, it then repeats itself as if I performed the "Save As" a second time. This does not happen in the other Office 2010 Pro Plus components.
    Does anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Per your post, do you mean that this repeat bahavior only happens when we click the "File" > "Save As" at the second time?
    Try to launch Excel in safe mode. (Type "Excel.exe /safe" in Windows Search bar and press Enter), if the behavior would not appear anymore, please go to File > Options > Add-ins > Go and disable the suspecious add-ins to solve it.
    Repaire Office suit from Control Panel if the issue still persists.

  • Status bar of Oracle from runtime applet is not displaying all of a sudden

    Hello,
    The status bar of Oracle form runtime applet is not displaying all of a sudden..It was displaying before but now its not......It helps me to see errors......how can I restore it?

    My console was set to a specific window name..it was not null at all....but the status bar wont show...
    But I solved it ...by changing the applet size...
    Applet container size is controlled by the HEIGHT and WIDTH parameters in the formsweb.cfg. To maximize the applet area to the size of the browser, do the following:
    HEIGHT=100%
    WIDTH=100%
    Thank you all for your help and support...
