Excel crashes due to Essbase add-in

Hi,
I have Essbase 11.1.1.3 and am using the excel addin 11.1.1.3 on Office 2003 in Win XP. One issue everyone is facing is that, once we install the excel add-in on their machine, they are unable to run any other tool that launches excel.
For example if they try to export something from JD Edwards, when excel launches, it crashes and they get the "fatal error...excel has crashed etc etc" error message. If I unregister the essbase add-in, it exports fine.
They have a lot of other excel add-ins as well and those "play nice" with each other but many of the add-ins have issues with the essbase excel addin.
Has anyone faced such an issue?

(no SCCM / no App-V Infrastructure)
Environment
On top of a Win 2012 r2 remote desktop session host server, I :
- installed App-V 5.0 SP2 client for RDS
- (added/published globally) Excel as a packaged app-v app
- (added/published globally) ESSBase as a packaged app-v app

- upgrade of the App-V Client for RDS from version 5.0 SP2 to 5.0 SP3 (RDS VM)
- uninstall of the App-V 5.0 SP2 sequencer and install of the App-V 5.0 sequencer SP3

Excel 2010 & Essbase Add-In

Hi,
We are using Essbase version 9.3.1. Recently, some of my users have upgraded to Excel 2010. They had been using it fine for about a month, and then all of a sudden, they started getting the error "Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:Hyperion\AnalyticServices\bin\essexcln.xll' whenever they try and use the Essbase Add-In.
The only work around that I have found is that if they navigate to that path and click on the add-in and then open Excel, it will work fine, but obviously, that is not the optimal solution.
I have gone and downloaded Essbase version 9.3.3 and installed on the machine, but the same error is occurring. I don't see how this could be a problem, seeing that usually it is OK to use a newer version of the add-in, even if the overall product is on the older version.
We are planning on upgrading all of our products to 9.3.3 in the next couple of months, but I have a feeling that will not solve the add-in/Excel issue.
Any ideas?

Hi ,
The error which you are getting is due the Excel. Because Excel Disables
the Essbasee Addin some time.
When you get the same error follow the below steps.
1) Open Excel
2) Go to Home menu
3) Options -> Add-ins -> Select Disable Add-Ins
4) Select the Essbase Add-ins and Click on Enable.
5) Click Ok.
6) Restart Excel

I have a user who is getting the following error:
Excel experienced a serious problem with the 'c:\oracle\middleware\epmsystem11r1\products\exceladdin\bin\essexcin.xll" add-in. . . .Do you want to disable this add-in?
Do we need to reinstall the Essbase add-in ?
I have had the user disable other add-ins via 'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins and that didn't resolve the problem.
Are there any compatibility issues with 64 bit Excel?
Also, after installing Essbase add-in, what are the items that should appear

Remove Essbase Add-in in microsoft Excel 2007

Dear All,
Currently, my company is Essbase 9.2 which I do use it once/twice in a month.
With the Essbase in, I have problem to use pivot table and right click option.
Even when I remove it from Excel option, Add in, the Essbase automatically re-load everytime I close Excel 2007.
My Question:
Is there any way to temporary remove the Essbase Add-in one time off and allowed me to select
the add-in when I need it .

Please follow below steps to remove Excel Add-in from Excel 2007: -
1- Open Excel 2007 and click on icon placed at top left corner and select option 'Excel Options'.
3- Now select option 'Add-In' from left window menu and then click on button 'Go' appears on the bottom of right window. It will open a new window.
4- Please de-select option 'Hyperion Essbase OLAP server DLL' in new window.
It will disable Excel Add-in.

Essbase Add-In Drill Down Error

Hi
When double clicking to zoom down in excel, excel crashes. I can use other features ok, and s/sheet retrieves ok if I select members first. I am using;
Essbase V11.1.1.3
Windows XP SP3 (recently upgraded from SP2)
Excel 2003
Hyperion components (Essbase databases / Planning / Reporting / Shared Services) are hosted on virtual servers.
I have tried uninstalling Smart View and reinstalling Essbase on my laptop, but Excel still crashes.
Although I recently installed SP3 (and this may coincide with the error), other users in the company also upgraded to SP3 are unaffected.
Not sure how to uninstall the add-in, but did deselect, the reselect the add-in (Tools - Add-Ins).
Any ideas?

Essbase Add-in 9.3.3 compatible with Essbase Server 9.2?

Due to some issues we're experiencing with Office 2010 we need to upgrade our Essbase add-in to 9.3.3. The good news is that it resolved the issues we were experiencing with Excel 2010. Unfortunately according to the documentation 9.3.3 products are not backwards compatible. Does this include the add-in? So far we haven't experienced any issues but was wondering if there are any known issues.

Excel addin uses the Grid API to communicate with Essbase. Nothing new happened to Essbase between 9.2 and 9.3.3 that would cause the addin to stop working. I would test it out and pay close attention to compatibility with Excel 2010.

Essbase add-in issue

Hi All,
We face thsi issue here on many machines, When we connect to any database in Essbase add-in and do a refresh very first time, the list of dimenstiosn that should come by default on the blank sheet sometimes comes and sometimes does not. DO we know any fix for this??

When you do a refresh, do you just see a blank sheet instead of the default dimensions? If it is the case, try closing all Excel instances, make sure there is no Excel running in the background (you can go to Task Manager to see that. Kill the instance if it is still running). This is usually due to multiple instances of Excel running at the same time.

Accessing Essbase cubes within a HP application using Essbase add-in

Hi All,
I've been told in the past by Oracle Support personnel that accessing the Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the MS Excel Essbase add-in is "a very bad idea" and that such an approach "is not supported\recommended by Oracle due to potential issues" (which the support person could not tell me about).
Unfortunately, I have not found any information in the Planning documentation which supports or not this recommendation.
As such:
1. Could anyone point me in the right direction in terms of finding out whether it is recommended\supported (or not) for users to access Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the Essbase add-in?
2. Has anyone ever experienced issues accessing Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the MS Excel Essbase add-in? If yes, what were these issues??
PS: We are on v9.3.1.x of Essbase\Planning and will be moving over to v11.1.2.x in the next 6-8 months.

Thank you for your prompt & informative response.
On the topic of metadata, I am aware of what happens when changes are made directly to an Essbase outline which falls under a Planning application without going following the proper method ... and I agree that it ain't pretty! :-)
On the topic of locking\sending data to the Essbase cubes within a Planning application, I also understand that it works quite well in as much as the data is saved in the appropriate intersections within the Essbase cube, as permitted by the security assigned to the user.
I was more interested in whether such a practice of locking\sending data directly to Essbase cubes within a Planning application was actually encouraged or discouraged by Oracle.
And please correct me if I am wrong but from what you are saying, it seems to me that it is neither as:
- on one hand, the "Essbase Write" HSS feature allows administrators to create security groups and assign this type of provisioning to security groups in question;
- on the other hand, Oracle Support seems to be verbally discouraging such a practice for no real reasons related to technological limitations;
The problem that I have is that because some users at our site know that they can lock\send data to Essbase cubes within a Planning application and as a result, not only want to get us to grant similar lock\send access to other users but are now more reticent than ever to move away from the Essbase add-in as a means to load\submit data to a Planning application. And that's why I was after some formal recommendation from Oracle as to whether it is a recommended practice or not.
Anyway, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Smartview 11.1.2.5- Cannot change value in Text-List Dropdowns- Excel Crashes

Using latest/greatest Smartview with 64-bit Office and Windows 7. I have a native essbase app utilizing text-lists. I am trying to update text-value through smartview. Smartview automatically produces a drop down to select a value from the linked text-list. However- as soon as a different value is entered or selcted in this cell with the drop-down list- Excel crashs. I have reproduced this consistently everytime. I have no way to change values for text-measure accounts linked to text-lists. I feel this is and incompatabiliyt issue with office 64-bit.

But I can't seem to find out where I can get information on the status of this issue and whether it's been patched in future versions.

Excel freezing and Outlook losing Add-in

I am having two issues on a workstation running Office 2013 home and business. The first issue is Excel randomly freezing when opening spreadsheets, it's random and will open two spreadsheets ok and freeze on the third and vice versa, there's nothing wrong
with the spreadsheets. When it freezes it gets to the point where half the excel interface is loaded and locks up (it isn't not responding in Task Manager, still says running) and I have to close Excel and try again.
- Tried full Office repair using online recovery
- Tried different user profile
- Tried opening spreadsheets from a network location and local drive
- There are no errors in the Event logs regarding this at all
- Disabled AV software, all Windows updates installed, still happens in Excel safe mode, disabled all excel add-ins
- Run full virus scan, gone through and closed all the processes on the machine that I can, tested excel after stopping each process
- Run full windows memory diagnostic and no errors reported
- Computer is HP workstation only couple of months old, all latest drivers and updates
- The workstation is running Windows 7 x64 Pro, Trend Micro AV software, part of a SBS 2011 domain.
The other issue I am having on the same machine and reason I ask the question here instead of creating a new thread is because I thought they may be related. We use an Outlook 2013 add-in but on this machine every time we close Outlook the add-in disappears
we actually have to go back in to Outlook each time and re-enable it and it works ok.
I can only think of two options one is complete removal and reinstall of Office which I don't think will fix the issue or complete format/reinstall of Windows which will be very time consuming and would rather not do.

Delete temp files of current user.
Disable hardware graphics acceleration

Is the Group Policy set in your domain to control 3rd party loading behavior?
Does Outlook start up slow? (Sometimes if Outlook start time exceeded threshold, add-in will be disabled)
Some steps I would suggest to try:
Change registry key under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins(name_of_the_addin), set load behavior to 3, which specifies that the add-in is loaded at startup. For more information, see
LoadBehavior Values.
Delete registy key under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\resiliency\disableditems\

Excel crashes when trying to print

Running Yosemite 10.10.2
Every time I try to print an excel document (Office 2011) either to paper or save as a PDF excel crashes. Do not have this problem with Word, PPT, etc.. Deleted and added printer back in with no luck? Any suggestions? I have the error log.

Try creating a new dummy printer using the Generic PS driver included with OS X. Then see if you can print using this Generic PS or save as PDF with the Generic PS printer selected.
To create a dummy printer, open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add a printer. Select the IP icon, enter the IP address of your Mac and select Generic Postscript in the Use menu. Click Add to complete.

Problem with Essbase add-in 9.2.1 and office 2010.

Hi all,
we have a problem with Essbase add in 9.2.1 and office 2010.
Every time when a user opens Excel a new (additionally) euntry in the ad-on menue appears.
Indeed what happens is, that the add-in is loaded n-times.
At the first start of excel one time, second two times and so on...
Thtas's very annoying.
Can someone confirm this issue or even better know a workaround.
(A way we have found so far to ease the pain a bit -well only temporary- is to disable the ad-in, close Excel and start it again.
However with every new start of execel the issues begins again.
But that's not a solution you can recommand to the end user.)
Any help is welcome.

In Excel, you can click on the fx that's beside the formula barto display the Insert Function window. There's a category called"Essbase Add-In" in the drop-down list box. Which directory would I paste my macro excel file, in order forthe macro function to display in this list? Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't HypQueryMembers do what you want?
It sounds exactly like EssVGetMemberInfo, right down to the number 6 being the same generation.
