Excel Data Connection problem for posting Excel on SharePoint 2013

Hi there,
I tried to post an Excel file to a SharePoint 2013 site. The file has a column with VLOOKUP formula to look for data from another Excel file posted on the same site. However, once I open the file, it'll show the following message:
"We can't connect to '[link to file on onedrive/sharepoint]'. Please make sure you're using the correct
web address"
I don't recognize the website on this error message and there is no data linked to it. If I click OK, it'll show the following error message:
"Microsoft Excel cannot access the file '[link to file on onedrive/sharepoint]'. There are several possible reasons:
- The file name or path does not exist
- The file is being used by another program
- The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook"
I tried to create another Library and post the file but it still shows me the same error message. I urgently need to fix this error as the file is viewed by several directors. Can someone help??? Thanks a lot!!

Currently, when a workbook that contains a Data Model is published to a library in Office 365, data refresh is unavailable.
However, you can use a PowerShell script to configure a workaround.

Windows 8.1 - Office 2013 - Visual FoxPro - excel data connection problems

Hi i have an excel document with existing data links to a foxpro database. these links worked on windows 8 with office 2013 but since getting windows 8.1 the links no longer work.
After much searching i have found i need to installed VFPOLEDBSetup.msi
This does not fix the issue. The ODBC Data sources located Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools still have no reference to FoxPro and within excel if i select from other sources and the other/advanced i can see the Microsoft OLE DB
provider for visual fox pro but it crashes excel.
in Windows 8 ODBC Data sources located Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools i have listed two items Visual FoxPro Database and Visual FoxPro Tables but both these are missing in Windows 8.1.
What do i need to do to correct other than not to use Windows 8.1

Difference between passive and active data connection mode for FTP

Hi,
Does any body have the idea of passive and active data connection mode for the transport protocol FTP.
I have one server with FTP, I have to pick the data from this FTP to XI.
What is the difference between active and passive data connection? Does XI supports both the connections?

A: Up to and including SP14, the File Adapter exclusively uses passive data connections. Starting with SP15, active connections will be available.

Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013?

By default Microsoft has blocked to add Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013. It can be enabled but need to change the SharePoint System page setting with the help
of below link:

Issue with Custom data parameter in Excel Data Connection

Hello,
We are querying a OLAP (SSAS 2008) cube using Excel 2007 by creating a data connection to SSAS server with an extended parameter “Custom Data”. We are using custom data parameter to apply our application’s user security to filter dimension
members in Excel’s pivot table report. We have created a pivot table in Excel and the excel is including this custom data parameter along with each request that excel is submitting to SSAS.
However, when the user selects “Show Properties in Report” option for a dimension which is selected in Row-axis of pivot table, Excel is not including custom data parameter . Why this “Custom Data” parameter is not being included in
the request only for this specific case?

As the Custom Data parameter is missing in 1st request our application logic is throwing a custom exception to Excel and Excel is not able to understand the exception message. Excel is sending the same request repeatedly (going into infinite loop) and the excel
window is freezed. Not able to work with excel until restarting the Excel.
Can anyone help me to resolve the above? quick help is much appriciated!

Excel data connection

I am trying to set up an Excel data source in ODI but getting the following error when I test the connection:
*java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified*
The JDBC Driver that I am using is sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
The JDBC URL is jdbc:odbc:XLS_SRC_AccountRepStructure
I have created an ODBC System DSN that corresponds to the name above.
Any thoughts?

Project Server 2013 Olap Data Connection Problem

I have created a number or Excel 2013 reports which use OlapPortfolioAnalyser data connection. Typically creating a pivot table. I can select any dimensions and measures and excel works as expected. However if I include the Project list or Resource
list it does not. I have tried this in two separate instances but do not have a separate environmnent availabale but would appreciate confirmation or othrewise of the misbehaviour.
Steps are: (Assuming cube is built and permissions set correctly and using Excel 2013 client)
In PWA\Bi\Data connections navigate to cube folder
Double click on OlapPortfolioAnalyser – opens in Excel 2013 (warning about data connections being blocked)
Click Enable
In pivot select project list from pivottable fields
Save file (locally or to sharepoint)
Close file
Now re-open file
Excel displays warning - "We found a problem with some content in "xxx.xslx". Do you want us to try and recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of the workbook, click Yes.
Click Yes
Another warning is displayed (Repairs to xxxx.xslx)
Removed Part: /xl/pivotCache/pivotCacheDefinition1.xml part with XML error. (PivotTable cache) Load error. Line 2, column 0.
Removed Feature: PivotTable report from /xl/pivotTables/pivotTable1.xml part (PivotTable view)
Click Close - you now see data but pivottable functionality is gone.
Note: this also happens with Resource list data.
How do I resolve this?

More research and KB 2817339 appears to have the fix - see

As I mention in the blog - the fix will not recover a broken xlsx as the break appeared to be on save rather than open.

Unfortunately the blog post you linked is in error - it reports that the issue is fixed in build
15.0.4517.1001. However I am running 15.0.4517.1504 and still hit the problem. The only workaround is the one post by
adrian_rho, above, which solved my problem. Thanks Adrian for the workaround, and to Brian for the great job tracking and assisting people on this issue, even though it is Excel and not Project - much appreciated!

How do I show/refresh data from an Access Web App in an Excel spreadsheet saved in a Document Library on Sharepoint 2013 online

I have an Access 2013 Web App in my Sharepoint 2013 online website. It contains a query to report on its data (several, actually, but let's keep it simple). I want to connect an Excel spreadsheet to the query, visualise the data in pivot tables/graphs/whatever,
save the spreadsheet in a Document Library, and let other team site Sharepoint users open the spreadsheet (preferably in Excel online, but with Excel client if it has to be) and see/copy the data, refreshed with the latest information from the Access Web App.

The way I'm doing it at the moment is to create an ODC file to connect to the cloud-based Access 2013 database, save that ODC in a Data Connection Library in the SP site, and use the saved ODC file as data source in the Excel spreadsheet. This works and
successfully keeps everything 'in the cloud' but I can't get it to refresh in Excel Online, and if I open the spreadsheet in Excel Client I have to enter the database password every time to refresh it. I don't really want to issue this password to everyone
who might want to view the data. There must be a better way than this ODC method, I suspect.
Googlings on this have led down various blind alleys - Excel Services, PowerPivots, Web Parts - but I'm stuck on which to follow through. Please, someone, point me to an article/book/website that explains how to do this step-by-step in simple language..

I don't see any quick way of achieving it - at least there's no such functionality exists in SharePoint. All you can do, develop an event receiver that will update the fields in the list item once the excel file is added/updated. You can use OpenXml API
to manipulate the excel file.

FTP/SSL Connection Problem for FTP Receiver Adapter

Hello All,
We are trying to establish an FTPS/SSL connection with one of our customers from our XI(Unix) system, and are receive following error:
iaik.security.ssl.SSLException: Server certificate rejected by ChainVerifier
Communication Channel Parameters:
Connection Security: FTP (FTP Using SSL/TLS) for Control Connection or FTP (FTP Using SSL/TLS) for Control Connection and Data Connection
Command Order: AUTH TLS, USER, PASS, PBSZ, PROT
Checkbox - Use X.509 Certificate.... checked (Certificate was provided by third party (customer issued) and uploaded to service_ssl certificate store on J2EE server)
Data Connection: Passive
Port: 10021
Keystore: service_ssl
X.509 Certificate & Private Key: ssl-credentials
Note: Initial handshaking occurs but connection is being dropped by the third party FTP Server when SSL certificate credentials are being validated. We also tried connecting to the third party FTPS server using standard FTPS client(FileZilla software), this connection gets established successfully with no certificate issues which means certificate and third party FTP Server is functioning correctly.
We therefore are thinking that the problem lies with our XI system being unable to load the certificate information correctly at the point when FTPS session is being established.

Hello All,
Further in order to test connection set up and communication channel configuration we tried simulating the FTP connection locally by configuring FTP Server using FileZilla at a local machine and accessed it from Client's XI Server.
This set up simulates the problem we encounter with our customer's FTP Server.
If connection security parameter in communication channel for Sender FTP Adapter is set to "FTPs( FTP Using SSL/TLS) with Control Connection" only, file gets successfully created with data at the FTP server but as soon as we switch the connection security parameter to "FTPs( FTP Using SSL/TLS) with Control and Data Connection", we receive error "Certificate rejected by Chain Verifier". The initial handshaking happens successfully and file gets created at the FTP Server but its empty, connection fails when attempt is made to write data into file and we end up with said error thereby closing the connection.
This is what the FTP (FileZilla) sees when the XI system attempts to set-up a fully encrypted data (FTPS) connection i.e., connection security parameter value as"FTPs( FTP Using SSL/TLS) with Control and Data Connection" :-

Kit Kat data connection problems

Since updating to kitkat (among other problems) my data connection drops to 3G almost everywhere, and sometimes unexpectedly disappears completely. I used to have 4G everywhere most places and always in the two zip codes I primarily use the phone from. 02113 and 01970. Anyone know how to fix? Is this just one of the things they need to correct in the next kit kat update? Thanks.

I've had this issue for months. I've done everything Verizon suggested, including new sims, factory reset, toggling Airplane mode, LTE on/off, radio on/off, reboots, *#*#4636etc., and more. Nothing helps. My phone still intermittently loses the 4g connection. They haven't suggested trying a new (not new; reconditioned), but I don't want to go that route; I know others who have gotten a replacement, and it hasn't helped.
It isn't fixed in the upcoming update according to developers forums.
Some think it's due to Verizon's network; others believe it's an inherent problem in the 4g chipsets in these first generation LTE phones. I don't believe Verizon knows what's going on; they're just hoping the issue's fixed in the next gen phones, and the problem will go away. Of course the problem with that is that some of their customers who are stuck with these phones will also go away at the end of our contracts, especially if another wireless company manages to come out with a RELIABLE high-speed 4g network.
