Excel document is not a valid format

Thinking this may be something I have to take to a Microsoft forum but, just in case...I have, maybe a half dozen Excel documents that I have been using for several years. Suddenly, when I open ANY Excel document, I get these half dozen separate statements for each document. All the documents open and seem to function fine, but what's up with this? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you sure that the document is a valid PDF file? Can you open it with Reader?

I need help! Iøm trying to upload a visa paper using Adobe-Reader XI and when I upload, it keep saying "document is not a valid PDF file" - what to do now? Maliha

Are you sure that the document is a valid PDF file? Can you open it with Reader?

I'm getting a weird error starting up JDEV 3.1.681 ( waiting for 3.2! ):
"Tagged file is not of valid format"
and my Workspace is brought up... but the PROJECT has been disassociated! I re-include the Project and things seem to be OK... then a couple of days later, I get the same problem.
Any permanent fix? ( while keeping JDev? )

Big projects have sort of been a problem in the past, but it's always difficult to reproduce and track down the source of the problem. Doesn't help that the error doesn't mention which file is the problem.
In general, we advise people to put their Business Components in one project, and their client code in a separate project. This is mostly for deployment purposes, so it's easier to encapsulate the business logic or server tier code from the client side code.
I know that the DAC wizard allows you to create it all in one project, which was put in there for backwards compatibility with JDev 2.0 when BC4J was hidden in the same project. Under the covers as it were.
This may or may not be the cause of the problems you're seeing. It might be worthwhile to create a new project in your workspace, remove all your client files for the application from the original project, and add them to the second project. I think you'll have a tougher time moving the BC4J objects, so I would leave those and just move the application files (panels, dialogs, etc.).
After you do that, make sure that the new project has the correct libraries in it. By default, it will just have jdev-runtime, connectionmanager, and Oracle 8.1.6 JDBC, I think. You'll probably need to add the Infobus libraries, JBO runtime, and any others used by your first project. Once you have the library list correct for the client project, you can clean out the library list for the BC4J project so it's only what BC4J needs.
By the way, you mention you have a lot of entity objects for LOVs. If you're just doing lookups, you don't need the entity object. You can create a view object based strictly on a query against the database. IT eliminates some overhead. On the other hand, if you have a lot of them, it might be a real pain to change them all.
Sorry not to be able to provide a more definitive answer on the errors and the access violations.

I am running Windows XP/SP2 and when I try to install my mini iPod software I get the following Error message--

Where are you saving the iPod software when you tried to install it?

My excell document does not want to upload into my email, it appears as if it has 0bytes but its bigger than 75kbs!

I try to send an email with an excell attachment, but I get an error that the document can not be uploaded because it appear to be 0 bytes. But the document is more than 75kb. I do not get this error in my regular PC but only on my MAC! Please help me someone. At times, it does let me, but most of the times I keep getting thoses errors.!!

I'm afraid the previous poster is sending you on a wild goose chase. Let me ask some questions, first is what version of OS X are you on and what version of MS Office for Mac are you on? If you are not sure then click the Apple symbol in the upper left of this screen and choose About this Mac. That will let you know the version of OS X you're using. For MS Office, in Excel (or any other MS Office app) click the Excel menu then choose About. It will tell you exactly what version you're on.

"Document is not a valid photoshop document"

I started working on a file a few days ago and I saved it before closing out of Elements 11. When i came back it said that the document wasnt valid and i wasnt able to open it. I'm not sure what went wrong and i spent a great deal of time on this and i'd hate to have to start all over again. Please help!

Have you used an lllegal character in the file name, like a dot (my.photo.jpg, say) or punctuation other than dashes or underscores?

DVD S P says .mov is not a valid format.

I exported from FCP "using quicktime conversion" into a .mov. Opened up DVDSP and it would not accept the file, said not right format. I messed with options in FCP export and in DVDSP. It still will not take it. Now, It took a motion j-pet, and DVDSP would burn that, but when I put it in a DVD player, all there was was a gray screen. Can anyone help?

I am having a problem with iMovie when i go to share my finnished products.
It works fine when i export to DVD, but when i select to share as a full quality movie, iMovie creates the video file but when i try to run it i get an error saying Error opeining movie movie could not be opened.
Any one else had this problem?

OPENING .PPTX File"This document not in powerpoint format"

Hi, I am new and am hoping somebody can help me. I received a file a couple of hours ago from a friend who uses Microsoft Power Point, I have a presentation in the morning.
I have downloaded the file, it is .pptx. When I click on it to open it it in Keynote I get an error message that tells me "The document is not in Powerpoint Format." No matter what I try to get this to open it will not. I have a Mac Book Air running v:10.8.3 with the latest version of Keynote.

Your PowerPoint file runs OK on my machine. I can think of a number of issues that are causing the file not to open.
However, what I would do, as you have little time to problem solve this issue, is playback the presentation in Open Office. This application is freeware its used by many government departments and universities in every country of the world. I use it daily in place of Microsoft Office.

Adobe Reader XI Install Error 1325 AI_RecycleBin is not a valid short file name

Adobe 10 worked fine on my computer, when I did the update for Adobe XI I got this error. I tried a couple of times to redownload and install with no success. Adobe Reader 10 wouldn't work either. I did a restore on my computer back before the Reader update and that did not get Adober Reader back to working.
I have been through the Adobe Help & Support, and Community. I have used the uninstaller programs and checked anything and everything I found in those two places. I even tried to install Reader 9 to no avail.
I am ready for some help and ideas?

"Last modified" attribute changes when opening a Excel-document

We are running Server 2008 R2 as terminal servers and fileserver.
When opening an Excel document stored on the fileserver so changes "date modified" at the opening regardless if you save the document or not. This is a problem for users who want to keep track of when the document has been changed "for real".
Now, "last modified" changes when the document was last read instead, this confuse the users...
If we test the same procedure on our older terminal server environment, Server 2003 or on our clients (Windows 7) it works how we wanted. The "last modified" only changes when you save the document, and not when you are opening it. Office
2007 is installed on both our new terminal server environment (Server 2008 R2) and the old one (Server 2003).
Can someone explain to me why it behaves like this? And if anyone got a solution? It's only occur on Excel-documents and not the others Office documents...

Excel document is encrypted and cannot be opened.

Just tried Numbers for the first time. Launched it. Tried to open my main spreadsheet that keeps all my financial information (I'm self employed) and I get the message Numbers cannot open it because it's encrypted.
Steve Jobs said Numbers could open nearly all Excel documents. Does that mean that nearly all excel documents are not password protected?
I was really looking forward to using Numbers. Fallen at the first fence.

They don't want us (the dealers) to edit the spreadsheet, but they do want us to read it. It's their pricelist, they wouldn't sell a lot of equipment if we couldn't see how much it costs! The point is that Numbers won't even open a spreadsheet that is edit protected, not read protected. This is a major issue, it should at the very least tell me I can open or import the sheet as a read only.
Excel will always open the spreadsheet, it just can't make changes to it.
For right now, when I need to get information from the pricelist in Excel, I have to copy and paste the info from the edit protected page to another blank sheet. This is a royal PITA because the Excel pricelist has 50 plus pages. I have been officially told to do that by my manufacturer. But they won't give anyone the password to unprotect the edit function of the sheet. Go figure.

Pages document "could not be read" bc. it "does not have a valid format"

The document in question was properly saved and Pages was not open when my computer hung as it was shutting down. MS Word would not quit or force-quit and I had to hard restart the computer. When I later tried to open this Pages document, which I had been working on before Word froze, Page would not open it and responded with the error message: "This document "document_name.pages" could not be read. This document does not have a valid format." When I looked at the document in question I noticed that its file size was 0KB. I have no idea why this happened, but I suppose it has to do with my computer not shutting down properly and perhaps with Word freezing. If I repair my drive permission, re-index it, anything, will it help? Just a note on the status of this machine: spotlight stopped working earlier this morning and I was waiting to finish this document before repairing disk permissions and trying to fix that issue with Spotlight.
In the meantime I have tried various fixes. First I tried to change the file ending to .zip, unpack it and open it. Then the same, but this time I tried to view package contents. It doesn't show up in the contextual menu as even having a package to show the contents of. The file is effectively empty, but I don't know where the contents went! The funny thing is that the MS Word doc was recovered automatically. Is it possible that Pages doesn't have an auto-recovery mechanism?
I need this file urgently, or at least the text in it. It is the bibliography of an important paper due tomorrow at 5 pm.Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I have used a file-recovery program in the past. It is called "Stellar Phoenix" and it worked wonderfully to find a Word doc that I accidentally deleted. It can't find .pages document though. In order to do so, I would need to tell the program what the average file size is, as well as the header information as follows. "Header (in hexadecimal)" "At Offset (in decimal)". I have no idea what this means, but if I could insert it, perhaps it could find the lost data. Should I have it search for .pages, .zip, .xml? I'm at a loss, but I know that it doesn't recognize .pages. In the meantime, I sent a support email to them and will see what happens.

I can't respond before.
When the system say that your file size is 0KB, it means that nothing was saved. Only a file descripto exists.
So, there is nothing to recover.
Given the time the system crashed, you may have :
(1) a simple descriptor with nothing written
(2) a folder with every or only some of the required files.
In this case, Phoenix is useless : it's unable to revive a folder.
(3) a flatfile (a compressed version of the folder named above). It's only this kind of file which Phoenix may revive.
With a bit of luck, Phoenix would be able to revive the index.xml file which was in the original folder created in the temporary folder.
This file starts with :

The minimal size for a Pages index.xml file is : 520038 bytes.
If you retrieve the index.xml file, we may try to rebuild an usable package.
Ask the recovery tool to transfer the recovered file on an other media.
If the document embedded pictures, the index will give their path and their size which may be useful to recover them.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...
