Excel file won't scale to fit page

We have just installed a new copier, a Ricoh MP C4503, that repaced essentially an earlier version of the product.
We have a user with an Excel for Mac 2011 xls file, that when he selected an area and printed with scale to fit, printed full page on 11 x 17. But now the spreadhseet comes out looking shrunk on the page, perhaps as thought it would look if printed fully on 8.5 x 11 but I'm just guessing.
If I print this file on another Mac,with essentially the same OS (or several other versions of OSX on several other Macs we have in the office) using the same copier, it prints as desired, a beautiful fullpage 11x17 spreadsheet.
It is only on his MBP (with latest updates I might add) that this problem is occurring, so I think it must be a problem with his OS, his printer driver, or his Excel installation, and I would remind, it printed fine before the new printer/copier came along.
I have tried a barrage of possible solutions until I'm bleary-eyed: multiple tweaks of the settings in sys prefs, printer features, page setup, print area, deleting and reinstalling driver, and more.
Help?

Wrong place to ask perhaps?

  • Deskjet 5740 won't scale to fit page; image off-center

I am using HP DJ 5740 over network via Airport Express. Driver is "HP5700 Series, v3.1.1" Neither of my Macs can correctly scale an oversized document to fit the page -- the command seems to be ignored, the preview picture never changes, the result is cropped off. The image looks off-center -- 7/8" on left, 1/8" on right, 5/8" on bottom (for page printed from Safari, ie no Word margins involved). And (for example) if I print a calendar month from iCal, the image is clipped on the left/bottom.
None of these symptoms occur when I print to the same printer from the Windows XP laptops on the same network. Ideas?

Another tack that you may think worth trying: define a custom paper size that’s actually the standard letter size in dimensions but has zero (or very small) margins: you can save it as "Letter Borderless" or something. Then choose that size for your page setup. This might help convince Preview (or whatever other app) not to crop the image.
What format is the scanned file in? What does Preview’s Get Info say about its dimensions? It may be that the headers specifying the sample density are missing or malformed, because in theory an actual-size scan should print at actual size without using a fit-to-page option. If you find you need to resize the image, try and do so without resampling (that is, just change the nominal resolution).

  • IMac 2.66 Radeon HD 2600 Pro: some Excel files won't display in ppt decks

Running Leopard 10.5.8 and MS Office 2004
Two iMac (8.1) 2.66 GHz with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video won't display some Excel files in PowerPoint decks, but iMac 1.83 GHz Core Duo will display o.k. as will MacBook Pro, MacBook, etc. Installing a trial version of Office 2008, both iMac 2.66 GHz display the PowerPoint files o.k.
I could downgrade the users to Intel iMac 1.83 GHz, or buy two copies of Office 2008 and support them, neither of which is a great solution.
Looking for a simple fix or workaround on what seems to be a video card issue. Don't seem to see this problem or a fix on the ATI site. I've googled this but haven't run into a similar issue.

Well, Office 2008 is only $110 USD at http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Office-2008-Home-Student/dp/B000X86ZAS/ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1251560959&sr=8-1
That seems the least expensive solution to me.

  • My page generates an Excel file but sometimes fails if the page loads to slowly...

I'm having a problem generating an Excel file using CF and
looping over a bunch of queries to get a table of data to display
to the user. This is slow but works fine except for an instance
recently where the page seems to be loading but after a few minutes
it stops and says "the page cannot be displayed". The error leads
me to believe it is a server error and not a CF error but I'm not
sure. I don't have timeout checked in my CF Admin so that should
mean that I can request pages for as long as I need to right?
I'm using the cfheader and cfcontent to dynamically generate
an Excel spreadsheet from my HTML. I tried using the cfflush tag
and that seemed to help since it pushes content to the browser
during the page load but it doesn't work with the cfheader and
    cfcontent tags.
So then I tried using the cfsavecontent tag and then save the
HTML to a file but again I couldn't use the cfflush tag inside the
cfsavecontent tag so now I'm stuck.
The page DOES load when I run in on my local machine with MX
6.1 Developer Edition and SQL Server Personal Edition. It DOES NOT
work when I run it on my production server that then calls my
separate database server. I'm wondering if there is a timeout (non
CF) set somewhere on the productions server or the database server
or if there is some sort of limit to the amount of data you can
    transfer between servers?
I'm totally stumped now so any advice is greatly
    appreciated!

That didn't work for me and the page times out right about 5
minutes (300 seconds). I don't have timeout checked in the CF
Administrator so I don't think it is CF that is causing the
timeout. I checked IIS also and the timeout is set to 900 seconds.
Is there a possibility that SQL Server has some sort of
connection limit and I'm using too many cfquery tags? If anyone has
experienced a similar problem I would really appreciate the help,
    thanks.

Just received my new MB Pro and migrated files from my 5 y/o MB Pro to the new machine using Migration Assistant.  Now, none of my Excel files on the new machine can be updated and saved.  Help!!

    Hi
I have a problem along similar lines. MBP 2007 new logic board fitted. Restored files from Time Machine. iPhoto messed up - still to fix but appears to be something to do with permissions. Now to your problem, and mine, with Excel. I originally found one file opening as Read Only. Checked all the permissions, etc, as you have done. Initially thought it was only one file as others opened OK. I have now found another one with the same problem. I found that by changing the name of the file in the Finder i.e. adding a "1" to the name, the files would open OK. In looking through the Microsoft site I found one similar problem and one suggestion was to copy (I just dragged them) the files to the Desktop and see if they would open. Answer, yes they do. The theory is that there is a sharing problem. I have checked these two files and enclosing folders. Nothing is locked and nothing is, or ever has been, shared. All the permissions appear to be correct and I am signed in as Administrator. That is as far as I have got at the moment. You might like to see if your file(s) will open from the Desktop - just double click them.
Not sure where to go next but at least I can now use the files.
    TY

  • Large excel files won't combine to pdf in Acrobat X or XI

I have large Excel files (0.3 to 1.2 MB) that I used to combine into a single pdf.  It will only work now on Excel files smaller than 1MB.  This was working a few weeks ago.  What happened?  I have tried on computers that have both Acrobat X and XI (we have both scattered around our building).
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

FileOpen is a security add-on, which is needed to open some files. Not a part of Adobe software. Maybe you need to upgrade or report it: http://www.fileopen.com/

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Zipped excel file won't open--how to?

Despite reading that OSX should automatically open zipped files upon double-clicking, I can't get this one to do so.  I've had this problem before and somebody suggested a simple solution, but I can't now remember what it was.  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Jeff,
Not sure what version you are at, you may want to read below:
    Cause
    As of unpublished bug 17584823:
The cause of the hanging is that when Excel starts, it tries to initialize CStatusInfo which creates a thread.
Disabling the initialization of CStatusInfo stop the hanging from happening.
    Solution
Upgrade to version 11.1.2.5.200, which resolves this issue.
Smart View 11.1.2.5.200 readme, states this as a fixed Defect:
17584823 -- In Office 2013, Excel freezes at startup if there are other add-ins enabled along with Smart View.
    Workaround
In OPTIONS menu in excel 2013 uncheck:
"Show the start up screen when this application starts"
    Thanks!

  • Jpeg image won't scale to fit box. Any ideas?

I am trying to add text to my scanned watercolor illustrations for a childrens book I wrote.  I am using Illustrator and I just loaded a jpeg image into illustrator, and it is HUGE!  I tried to use the scale tool and I can't figure out how to get the jpeg image to shrink down to fit in the box!  All I get is a blue snowflake and also a menu w/ choice of uniform or nonuniform for the scale.  Don't understand.  This is totally confusing!  I am using CS3.  Any ideas?

What are the physical dimensions of the jpeg?
Open it in Photoshop and check Image Size in inches or centimetres.
If you want to make it smaller, increase the resolution (ppi) without resampling.

  • Can't open excel files

Certain ms excel files won't open. These files are generated from our database and emailed. They open fine on a PC. Any ideas anyone?

These are the viewable file types on the iPad - as email attachments.
Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)
If the Excel files are saved correctly and have the correct file extensions, perhaps they are too large for the iPad to open. I have found that large Excel files either will not open - they continue to load with the spinning wheel - or they will crash my iPad.
A PC has operates with much more RAM than either iPad does. In my experience, The iPad just cannot handle a very large file as a mail attachment - it will either crash the mail app or it will not open.

  • Conversion from an Excel file

I recently converted an excel file to a pdf table. However it comes out on two pages each with half of the file. Pg 1 contains the left columns and page 2 has the right side columns.
Is there a way to have it all appear on one page?

Based on your description it seems like a setting in your Excel file might be causing 2 PDF pages to be generated.  Can you please look at the 'Print Preview' in Excel to see if it shows you 2 pages?  If yes, you can use the 'Scaling' feature in the Excel 'Print' dialog box to "Fit page to 1 page wide by 1 page tall.'  This should address the issue.  If this issue still persists then please follow-up with a question on a different forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobatdotcom/acrobatdotcom_storage/
This forum is for Acrobat.com Tables.

    Statement st = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery("select * from [holidays$]");
Here i have created the dsn with the name "mydsn". I have the

    DBQ=D:\WorkSpace\Projects\VINET\devl\webroot\jsp\list_of_holidays_2003.xls
    thanks in advance

You might want to look at the POI project (an open source Jakarta sub-project) that allows you to create/modify/read excel files via Java code. That might be more flexible and easier than what you're currently trying to do.
