Excel for Mac and Word problems

Hi, I have a problem with the graph feature in Excel(mac). Whenever I create a graph in excel and make it look like say, this:

and then copy that graph and paste it into Word(mac), I get this:

The problem is that the graph in word has the pattern, but it's very small, here it is at 500% magnification in word(mac):

If I do this in windows (either through parallels or a windows computer and transfer) I get the same graph pasted in word as I created in excel. If I create the file using the mac versions and then transfer it to a windows computer, The patter looks like it should, that is, like the one I created in excel(mac).
So it only looks off when I create the file using the mac versions, and view it on the mac, that same file looks correct on windows computers. If I do it on a windows computer and view it on the mac, the file also looks correct.
So what can be causing this? I'm using a 24inch iMac C2D btw. thanks in advance!

Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum

Numbers is a joke compared to Excel. If I were you I would find a class/tutorial first, find out what they use (and it won't be Numbers) and see if you need the Mac or Windows version of Excel. Note that Excel is not sold as a seperate product from the Microsoft Office suites.

If you close all the windows and quit word, next time you restart, DO NOT check "Reopen windows on login".
Also, check your login items for your user account.

I'm using Excel, Word and Outlook for Mac 2011 in Yosemite without any issues. I can't speak for Powerpoint, as I've never opened it. I'm not a power user in Office, so I doubt I've really exercised it. But so far, Word editing and some simple Excel spreadsheets I use for inventory tracking have worked with no problem.

Had this problem for quite a while but found a work-a-round. I click anywhere in the text I want to delete and insert any character. I am then able to block and delete any text I want to. It's been working great.

Cannot open documents originally in Word 2008 for Mac and saved in Pages 09

I have both Word 2008 for Mac and IWork 09. Working on long and complicated documents in Word, I had a number of problems with Word so that I decided to switch to Pages. I copied my documents into Pages, and saved them in Pages. Now, when I want to open them in Pages, I get a message that Pages cannot open those documents.The message says: the "file" couldn't be opened. The required index.xml file is missing.
Again: original Word document, properly saved into Pages. the saved Pages file cannot be opened in Pages.
What do I do wrong?

Try to save open and save the Word doc again in Pages. It might work better.

That generally has to do with data corruption. Is your data backed up?
What version of Office do you have?
What Mac operating system?

My previous answer still stands: Restore from your backup taken before you upgaded to Mountain Lion. For example, a Time Machine backup, a Carbon Copy Cloner clone, or a commercial backup service. Not the disk that came with your computer (which is how I read "OS back up disk").
If you reinstall the original OS from the disk that came with your computer, it will wipe out everything on your computer. (The installer won't install an older OS over a newer one, so you'll have to wipe the disk first.) Then you'll need to restore your data from your backup and reinstall applications like Word.

This is exactly what keeps happening to mine too. I was at a conference taking notes, and I was
using the Notebook template, and doing some audio recording simultaneously. About 3 hours into the conference (not consistently recording, but on and off with the sessions) my file wouldn't save anymore, saying something like "File cannot be modified while in use with another program" and "Invalid file name" when I would go back into my folder to look for it). I tried installing some updates from Microsoft, and when I restarted, I was at least able to open my old notes again, and so far it looks like the audio was working. However, today at the conference, the same thing happened again, but I wasn't actively recording any audio (though after I had copy and pasted my second file of notes into the original, I went back to using it after re-naming it).
Does the crash happen to you under similar cirucumstances? The update might help a little, but it is definitely not the solution. Does anyone have any solutions? Lion shouldn't be this buggy... I moved to Mac to get away from the garbage of bugs and compatibility issues...
