Excel is Merging Cells w/ Wrapped Text.. Make it stop!!

Hi All,
Currently I am generating reports in Crystal and Exporting them to Excel. I have a few fields that I rotate -180 degrees so that the text is Vertical instead of Horizontal and the height is about 40pixels or w/e. In crystal it looks great and wonderful, but when I export this to excel it breaks my Column headers up into about 4 rows all Merged...
This is a problem because once I am in excel I apply sorting filters and it screws up the whole report because it applies the filter to the very first merged row.
How do I prevent crystal from exporting my headers into merged rows???

K, first off, the terminology to help avoid confusion - Column E not Row E. :)I was able to duplicate your issue and after some quick testing, like you, can not find away around it, other than what has already been suggested.Is it really that big a deal to make your header as long as it needs to be to prevent the wrapping? Once in excel the user can easily resize the row (the text will automatically wrap). Sometimes in situations like these, simply making the client aware of the limitations/bugs of the tool can work to your benefit. In my experience explaining the issue to the client and providing a reasonable work around - resizing a row upon export or reducing the font size or changing the wording slightly - can make your life much less frustrating. Way more times than not, the client has bent or worked with me when they understand the problem - not to mention, realize it is costing them for me to spend more time trying to fix a minor (or at least it appears minor in this case) formatting issue.

I have an advanced data grid with which i need to add either
images or buttons to individual cells alongside the text.
This i can do, but what i can't figure out is how to make the
text wrap.
Currently, I can make cell text wrap by using an itemRenderer
which extends Text. Or, I can add an image or button to a cell by
using an itemRenderer which extends HBox and contains an image or
button child. To this HBox i can add a Text or Label object also,
but i can't make the text wrap.
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/solutions????

I'd look at the code for AdvancedDataGridGroupItemRenderer
and try to see
what keeps it from displaying an icon in the columns that are
not grouping
columns. I'd then extend it to change that and use an icon
function.

Cell Wrap Text

Hi,
Does the MS Word's cell Options > Wrap text really work? I have XMLP 5.63, Word 2003, and I'm trying to restrict the invoice line description to only 1 line, but it does not seem to work.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Hi Jo,
You could try this: <?xdofx:substr(DESCRIPTION,1,30)?> where DESCRIPTION is the name of the XML tag of the invoice line description.
It will show the first 30 characters.

According to your description, you find the wrap text property and fix column is not working after exporting into Excel. Right?
In Reporting Services, when exporting to excel file, it has limitation for textbox.
Text boxes are rendered within one Excel cell. Font size, font face, decoration, and font style are the only formatting that is supported on individual text within an Excel cell.
Excel adds a default padding of approximately 3.75 points to the left and right sides of cells. If a text box’s padding settings are less than 3.75 points and is just barely wide enough to accommodate the text, the text may wrap in Excel.
In this scenario, it supposed to be wrap text unless you merge cells. If cells are merged, word-wrap does not work correctly. If any merged cells exist on a row where a text box is rendered with the
AutoSize property, autosize will not work. For the Fix Data Property, it can't be working in Excel. These are features when exporting to Excel. We can't change it because it's by design.

PDF does not contain columns, rows, formats, styles, or other aspects of word processing or spreadsheet file formats.
This is because PDF is decidedly not a word processing or spreadsheet file format or something "like" one of those.
(see ISO 32000 for what PDF "is")
What can optimize the export of PDF page content is to start with a well-formed tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
Without that export is what it is and one performs whatever content cleanup is needed using the native application for the export file (MS Word or Excel).

You can do this - sort of...
LV will not auto wrap the contents of a cell automatically. However, if there are hard line breaks, you can make LV expand the cell vertically to show all the lines. It will not however, autoutomatically size the cell width.
Sounds like this might be a good project for an XControl.

Fitting text into a single merged cell.

I am trying to make my text fit within a merged cell in numbers. Is there a wrap command that I can use?

You can try below ways
1>change the setting in table properties to fit table cell as per contents.
2>or create a table and inside that create one more inner table and add your fields.
3>or Create .XLS layout it will come properly.

Excel export are merging cells for data on multiple lines !

I'm using Crystal Report XI R2, when we are doing an export to Excel with have an unexpected formatting.
For example the value of the name is on 2 lines:
=> So, on Excel the result is on 2 lines but merged. We want to have this result only on one cells.
Remark: if we delete the 2nd lines, because cells are merged we obtain the expected result.
Proposal A:
Are they any set-up available concerning the formatting of Excel ?

Could we run some VBA when we click on Export button to make queries on the Excel ?

When they introduced Unicode support in Crystal 9 (I believe), they had to completely re-write the export routines. At that time, they made a decision to change the functionality of the excel export. Crystal is attempting to remain absolutely faithful to the graphical layout of the report as you see it in the viewer. So it creates merged cell sections, empty columns between columns, and empty rows to give you as close to exactly what you see in the viewer as possible. Unfortunately, the result is typically less than useful. Iu2019ve had several conversations with Business Objects (now SAP) with regards to this when they changed it between versions 8.5 and 10, and they have no intention of changing the functionality as it now exists.
There is a document which is now likely somewhere on the SAP portal that explains what you need to do to obtain the best results when exporting to excel.
The jist of it is this:
Line up all of the columns detail data with thier headers, and make sure that data fields are the same size as thier headers.
Line up all rows (headers and detail rows). (ie: select everything in the row, right click, align tops, and make the same height)
cram everything as close together as possible. zero space in the report translates to zero extra collumns and rows in the export.
the other option is to use the export to data only functionality, but that may not be what you're looking for either.

Excel Merge Cells.vi throws an undefined error in Excel 2013?

Basically, I can't write text into an Excel spreadshoot using the Report Generation tools.
Using LabVIEW 2013 (SP1) I am writing to individual cells in an Excel (2013) template.
The error is coming from the Report Generation Toolkit>Excel Specific>Excel Easy Text.vi.>Excel Merge Cells.vi.
Inside of the "Excel Merge Cells.vi" is an "Invoke Node.Range". When the program hits this point, it throws out an undefined error.
My code has been running on multiple platforms in multiple programs with no problems using Office 2010.
NASA upgraded our Office Suit to 2013. I am now throwing an undefined error ( -2146827284).
I've got a service request in and have talked to an engineer. THey are looking at the problem. However, I thought I would throw it out here and see if anyone had seen this particular problem.

Problem found, workaround implemented.
When you use the "New Report.vi", you have to wire in one of four choices for the state of the window. "Maximized", "Minimized", "Normal" and "No Change". If you use the "Excel Easy Text.vi" to insert data into an Excel 2013 Spreadsheet, it will generate an error if you opened the Excel file in "Minimized" mode. The other three states work fine.

I have a requirement where i need to upload the excel sheet. The data is given below.

The output must be

I have a file. xls shown in the image below, this file is automatically generated by script, I want to merge cells that I colored myself just to show you but in reality they are not colored, so i want to merge the cells that contain the same value, for example, the first cell FRS and the second cell FRS, i want to merge and write once FRS and the same for the other line of this column, knowing that this file is not fixed, it is possible that its contents change, then we can not fix the cells to merge.

Excel from abap using OLE, trying to make an excel cell-property currency

I have build an abap application which generates a price list as a MS Excel file using OLE techniques (ole2incl).
One small thing in the excel file is lacking and I hope some one can help me out:
I want to give certain cells in excel the "cell property - currency", so that excel shows the amounts as currency values.
Has anyone done or seen that before?
