Excel not saving

When i use Excel and add a comment to a cell "Document not saved" some times comes up. To get past this i have to delete the coment and re do it, it then some times saves. I dont know what I am doing wrong and what I am doing right because it does some times save.
Thanks. Lewis

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)

  • Excel not saving or open files

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and after I installed all programs again include Office 2004, I've been having problem opening and saving files in excel. When I try to save a document it gives this message "Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'user:Documents'. And when I try to open a document it says " 'user document.xls' cannot be accessed." I removed the office twice and reinstalled it again.
I have no idea how to fix this problem.

Sounds like a permissions issue. Run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Otherwise, since this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office, you should really consider posting issues with Office on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products as they would be focused more toward the issue than an Apple forum and there are Microsoft appointed MVPs there to assist.

  • Hyperlinks not saved correctly in PDF and Excel

    Hi,
I have a few reports with hyperlinks to other reports that contain multiple input parameters, which makes the links very long. ( greater than 400 characters )
When the reports are saved as excel, I am unable to invoke the child report on clicking the link as the link is not saved entirely ( can see that when i try to edit the hyperlink in excel ).  Therefore the child report opens but prompts for inputs as not all the inputs are passed
When saved as pdf, the link is not saved correctly and i cannot invoke the child report at all
Please can you suggest a solution/workaround? Alternately is it possible to disable the hyperlinks when saved as excel/pdf?
    Regards
    Sameer

    Hello,
I think this is a limitation in Excel where URL syntax has to be 255 characters or less
In order to prove that it's coming from excel and not BO, try in excel to create a false hyperlink which contains more than 255 characters.
A workaround might be to modify the cell as text and will not be recognized as a URL. So you should get it entirely.
Please let me know if it helps you

  • Windows 7 (64bit) & Office 2010 (32bit) Excel 'Document not saved' over WAN to network drive

    Hi All
We are currently in the process of upgrading all PC's on our WAN to windows 7 across multiple locations
I know this has been asked numerous times but nothing is working for me.
We are experiencing the dreaded 'Document not saved' error at only some locations (5 or 6 out of 200 for all users, these sites generally have slow network connections) when trying to save to a network share back at our HQ. it creates a .tmp file and leaves
the original document intact but without the changes, changing the name of the document in save as doesn't work. saving locally and copying to the share works. We can save locally and to other onsite network shares. It constantly happens so the document can
never be saved to that network share.
Always worked on XP SP3 with Office 2010.
the files in question are around 4mb. smaller excel files with no contenct do work.
I have tried literally everything listed on all forums and nothing seems to resolve it...I've tried
    - the hotfix - doesn't apply to my enviroment and the offending KB aren't installed.
    - the network resiliency, pivot table network resiliency and Enable simply copy for UNC registry keys
    - disabling offline folders, windows search and indexing
    - disabling SMB2 on the client
    - turning off QOS on the IP4 settings.
    - trusted documents.

My guess is me the issue points to Excel loosing connection to the network share when saving and then the .tmp becoming corrupt.
Does any one have any ideas? Is there a way to sure the connection when saving? is there a way to force it to stay connected?
    any help highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hello, We've been having this same issue, and I think we have a work-around.
If we change HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\RequireSecuritySignature from "0" to "1" we still get the error message but the tmp file is NOT created. If the user tries to save again, it is then successful.

  • "Document Not Saved" Microsoft Excel 2010 SP1

We have a remote office which has a 2mb WAN link, The users in the remote office have a variety of Office installs from 2003 to 2010 SP1.
When attempting to open an excel file over the WAN link (The file is on our main shared drive in Sydney) they can open and edit the document however when it comes to saving they receive "Document not saved" and the original document is gone and a .tmp file
remains where the original file was on the network drive/shared folder.
If they then hit save a second time it saves correctly and the document is in the correct .xls format.
The excel files do have some funky tables etc in them and are a few mb's in size, however we have the same issue with a new excel document with only one word written in it.
Does anyone know what would be causing this issue?
We have tried added NetworkResiliency and PivotTableNetworkResiliency as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291204.
We have tried removing certain hot fixes from Microsoft as mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983458.
We added the share to be a trusted site.
There are no errors in Event Viewer.
I have found another few threads on similar issues with no fix:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/office2010/thread/f559b061-b98f-4b33-ab8a-d1a41d2e8cb8/
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeappcompat/thread/4af962a0-d883-4e82-8995-7eb766d6c720
We do have a RiverBed at the remote office and one at the site in Sydney which is for network optimization. On the RiverBed with have all CIFS ports added and QoS marking done so it should be optimized.
Any assistance with how to fix this annoying issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

We're having the same exact issue in our office where we just installed a new Riverbed Steelhead as well... only happening in that office as well...User opens a document on a network share that the rest of the company works from day to day, they save 10
or 20 minutes later and BAM... "There has been a network or file permissions error. The network connection may be lost", then a non-hidden *.tmp file is then created in the same network directory as the actual file and the original file doesn't get
written to, you click [OK] on the error and then try to save again and it magically works...and you're left with a messy TMP file as well in the directory now. I doubt it's related to antivirus, definitely not firewall, reinstalling/repairing office and tweaking
settings doesn't help, I agree it has nothing to do with locking files or read-only files as they're plain old word docs and excel files...MAYBE it has to do with the Riverbed WANOP appliance but either way... don't you love how this thread just randomly died
    with no solutions? :'(   Thanks Micro$oft ;)
{Edit} Oh! And one last thing...this MIGHT help steer someone in the right direction in the future... there could be a problem related to your network filer such as a NetApp appliance, EMC, Netgear etc where there is an SMB version mis-match or a bug of some
kind requiring you to apply a patch your storage device in order to fix this type of issue.

  • Excel COMException : 0x800A03EC Document not saved.

    Hello,
I am using Interop.Excel in my WinForms application. The application is used to copy some sheets from one workbook to newly created one.
The newly created workbook is saved when I don't copy shapes. But, when I copy shapes into newly created sheet, the workbook is not saved and COMException is raised with message "Document not saved".
    Scenario :
I am working with three workbooks simultaneously.
MainWorkbook - this workbook contains data to be written into new workbook.
ResourceWorkbook - this contains sheets that are copied into new workbook.
OutputWorkbook - this is the result workbook.
Step 1: Open MainWorkbook. Get data to write in OutputWorkbook.
Step 2: Write data into OutputWorkbook.
Step 3: Open ResourceWorkbook from resource file for copying the sheets.
Step 4: Copy sheets from ResourceWorkbook into OutputWorkbook.
    Step 5: Save OutputWorkbook.
In step 5, if there are no sheets with images copied in step 4, then the OutputWorkbook is saved. But, if there are sheets containing images, the OutputWorkbook is not saved.
I am using VS2010 and MS Office 2010.

    Hi,
According to the description, the issue seems that relative to the specific worksheet which containd shapes.
I am trying to reproduce this issue in Excel 2010 using VBA, howerever it failed. Here is the test sample which set write the value to the Book2 and copy the worksheet contained shapes from Book1 to Book2:
    Sub CopySheet()
    Application.Workbooks("Book2.xlsx").Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1") = "Hello Word!"
    Worksheets("Sheet1").Copy Application.Workbooks("Book2.xlsx").Worksheets("Sheet1")
    Application.Workbooks("Book2.xlsx").Save
    End Sub
Could you reproduce the issue with code above? If not, a sample worksheet and code snippet to help us reproduce this issue is much appericate.

    Hi.
How are the rights configured to be inherited? Could you do a "icacls <folder>" on each level and post it back.
Also worth considering is that this is a Linux Samba system, so it might not work as a regular windows system.

  • How can I display Excel document saved as html in ebDynpro Office Contol?

    Hello,
I have a problem with displaying of Excel document saved as html inside WebDynpro Office Control.
Could you explain why OfficeControl cannot display Excel document with content type =text/htm?
How you know, control must be bound to binary data. And then mime type is set as
    bin.setMimeType(new WebResourceType("html", "text/html", false));
The empty document is displayed always.
Nevertheless, excel file is displayed perfect, when
    bin.setMimeType(new WebResourceType("xls ", "application/msexcel", false));

The OfficeControl UI element is made available as an ActiveX control, so that the UI element can be displayed in browsers that support ActiveX controls.
The ActiveX control enables display of the following documents:
1.Microsoft Word documents with the doc file extension
2.Microsoft Excel documents with the xls file extension
This is the reason why document with other content types are not displayed.
Data source must be bound to binary data because files are read as bytes in this scenario.
    Hope this helps you.
Do let me know if your problem is solved.

    Vijith

  • Attachment modifications not saving when routing document

The issue is that in some cases attachment file modification are not saved and forwarded to the next recipient when using the routing slip feature.
    Here is the scenario:
A user sends an excel document as an attachment and routes to several users via the groupwise routing slip feature.
The normal and successful work flow is this:
Next user in the route recieve the email.
Opens the document (in excel) and makes some changes in the document.
They select save (not save as).
Then then click the "completed" check box to continue the routing.
The next user will receive the email and attachment and the changes will be included.
The issue is that in many cases (about 50% of the time) the attachement edits will not stick and are not included for the subsequent recipients.
I have done some experimentation and it appears to be related to how the groupwise client handles temporary files.
It looks like there are two different folders used - my documents\groupwise and user\local settings\temp\xpgrwise.
When it works it appears that "edits" are saved in the temporary files folder and then "re-attached" to the routed email.
And the temp files are deleted when the email is closed.
In the failed scenario the attachment file does not get deleted from the temporary folder (and edits are not forwarded).
It appears to me that there may be another "unknown" temp file folder someplace that is being referenced and causing the issue.
We are using groupwise 8 client by the way and I think the issue started after the version 8 upgrade.
Has anyone else experienced and/or resolved this.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Change not saved, file lost

    Hello,
We're using Sharepoint 2013 to manage documents. I was editing a Sharepoint doc in excel and saved my work several times before finishing, however I did not check the doc back in upon completion. Instead, I created a PDF version (makes printing easier),
saved the PDF file to the same Sharepoint folder, and checked the PDF version in when I was done with it.
When I went back to the library to check in the excel version of the file, it was showing an older version of the document (from last night). I opened it, and lo and behold none of the changes I had made prior to converting the file to PDF were showing.
What happened to that file? Like I said, I saved it several times before converting to PDF, yet no copy of the changes exist on Sharepoint or locally. I disconnected from the network, opened excel locally and checked recent documents - it wasn't there. I checked
my Sharepoint recycle bin - not there. Versioning and publishing are enabled, but I was the only person working on this document. I searched the entirety of my hard drive - not there. I checked the version history - not there (last night's version is the most
    recent).
I've done this before without issue. Both files (excel and pdf) would show up in the Sharepoint library with all changes. I'm at a complete loss on this and would love/appreciate help in recovering the excel version with all my changes (otherwise I just
    lost 6 hours of work)!
    Timeline of events:
Last night@7:16PM - Save and check-in excel file.
This morning@8AM - Open and check out excel file. Make changes and periodic saves along the way.
Today@2PM - Finish changes, save, create PDF, save PDF, check in PDF version. Go back to library to check in excel version only to find that the version from 7:16PM last night is the latest excel version available.
    Regards,
    KMS
    EDIT: Sharepoint 2013, Office 365, OS: W8.1/64

    Hello Cam,
Interesting. I'm sure nobody went into site settings and discarded changes.
I hard refreshed the site; file still not there.
I'm beginning to think it's IE11. I'm using 64-bit, and don't know how to use the 32-bit version (I'm not very savvy when it comes to this stuff). I have found a few tutorials online but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly.
I appreciate all the help so far, Cam. At this point I've spent so much time searching for a solution I could've just redone the work! Ugh.
EDIT: Is it possible that I accidentally discarded my check out and therefore all my changes to the excel doc went unsaved? If so, wouldn't the fact that I saved my work several times prevent me from losing the changes? I'm so confused at this point!
It's odd that I have a PDF version of the document that shows ALL the changes that I made - essentially the finished product - and yet the excel document from which said PDF was created is gone!

  • Lion not saving settings, iTunes not working, iPhoto not repairing

having a ton of issues and not sure if it's upgrading to Lion, updating iTunes or something else causing the problem.
    When I'm logged in as the main user getting a ton of problems including;
    1)  no matter which box I check or uncheck or which windows I close before shutting down, every time I log in as my usual user it opens about 20 windows including about 6 files in Excel which I've already closed, said I wanted to delete (they were recovered), etc.  Other windows that open are firefox, settings, a video I started watching about a month ago, etc
    2)  applications are frequently crashing
    3)  nothing will synch with itunes.  I plug in the iphone, ipad or touch and it recognizes that it's there and then proceeds to do the rotating rainbow thing for ever (I've tried leaving something plugged in overnight) or until I force quite
    4)  iphoto indicates that the library needs repairing - repairing does nothing, rebuilding does nothing, repairing permissions does nothing, removing and reinstalling does nothing.
5)  most settings are not saved.  things like changing the Login Items, 'Restore Windows when quitting...' option do not save but things like file sharing options does save.
    what I've tried that didn't work;
    1) reinstalling Lion
    2) reinstalling itunes
    3) reinstalling iphoto
    4) reinstalling itunes with iphoto removed
    5) tried quitting applications with option-command-Q (they still reopened when I re logged in)
    5) also tried to manually delete the 'saved application states' but can't get to the folder (can find the library folder but it says the saved application states folder does not exist)
the only thing that works is setting up a new user and logging in there.  Most of the problems seem to go away but all my files, itunes library, etc are under my other user.
so, anyone have any ideas?  if not, is there an easy way to transfer all my files, itunes library (hopefully including playlists!), etc?
    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like something malicious or malfunctioning in your user.
What you can do is use the Grouping or other tag feature to tag all your songs in certain playlists, this will apply to the song file itself.
For instance I have music grouped like this:
    Popular 00's Medium Hits
    Popular 90's Hard Hits
Classic Rock 80's Very Hard Hits
    Blues 70's Medium Hits
So I can create Smart Playlists containing the keywords in the Grouping.
No you don't have to go through all that. Something to think about in the future when you switch machines or need to transfer to another user.
You can simply transfer your entire iTunes folder into the Music folder of the new user via the Users/Shared folder, open a copy of the
    iTunes Music Library.xml
In TextEdit or another text program with "find and replace" ability.
Change all instances of your old user name with the new one, save and relaunch iTunes, it will load this file and have the correct pathname/user to locate your files so the playlists remain intact.
Once your up on the new user, delete the infected or corrupted one, as that what it seems to be occuring.

We facing problems using the 2012 version of PowerPivot. The password for the connection to SQL Server is not saved anymore! We previous used the 2008 version without any problem, now we want to upgrade to 2012 but this issue is holding this.
We use PowerPivot as an offline version and users update there data by refresing the powerpivot. When done in 2012 version, the user is asked to enter the password for the SQL connection. We can't have endusers to enter the PW. It might be reported as a
