Excel now won't launch

I've been using MS Excel for years, now all of a sudden it won't launch; quits on startup everytime if I launch it from the dock. Weird thing is, if I launch it by double clicking an Excel document, it opens no problem. Any help???

Hi - I am having the exact same issue you described. Were you ever able to find a solution to this? Or, did you have to delete/reinstall office (which is what MS tech support keeps suggesting as my only option)?

iTunes auto-update dowloaded and installed on 28/01/2014. iTunes now won't launch and error message states file MSVCR80.dll is missing. Tried unistalling and downloading/installing again to no avail.  Any clues?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Safari and mail now won't launch

    Hello
I have done something very silly. I run 10.3.9 and downloaded and installed Safari 3 not realising it wasn't compatible. It was allowed to install indicating the install was successful. However Safari and mail now won't launch. Have I lost the apps and is there anything I can do to get them back, particularly mail?

    Hi Again Christine
Perhaps my responses HERE and HERE, in another's member's Topic Here, may be helpful.
Review that entire Thread for continuity, but if you have questions, please post them here in this Thread.
And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding in  Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

  • PSE6 now won't launch. Any ideas?

My PSE6 was working and after some cleaning on my XP at a shop, PSE6 now won't launch. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
Solution 4: This would work for your PSE6 also.
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
For related post for Twain please see this:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2954743#2954743
    Thanks,
    Garry

  • Installed up date to dreamweaver (2014.1) and now won't launch.

Installed up date to dreamweaver (2014.1) and now won't launch. looks like it is trying and won't do anything. Have uninstalled and reinstalled. Account is fine. Other software launches. Any ideas?

Moving this discussion to the Dreamweaver Support forum.
Techinst1 did you receive any error messages during the installation process?  Are you using the steps listed in Creative Cloud Help | Launch Creative Cloud apps to open Dreamweaver CC 2014?

  • 10.4.7 Intel- apps now won't launch

I applied the Intel 10.4.7 Combo updater to my 1 month old Macbook and now most applications will not launch. Safari and Camino both will not launch. Luckily I also have Opera which works.
I click on an app; it bounces once and then nothing as if I never clicked it. Other apps that won't launch: Adium, mail, ichat, address book, itunes, iphoto and others
Apps that do work: Quicken, Imovie, prefs, dashboard, terminal, quicken, and others
Ok after writing all of that, I checked console and saw that every one of those applications actually crashes and leaves a crash log. Each crash log has the same error about the address book as shown below.
Here is the log for Safari:
    Host Name: mb
    Date/Time: 2006-06-27 23:15:07.466 -0400
    OS Version: 10.4.7 (Build 8J2135)
    Report Version: 4
    Command: Safari
    Path: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
    Parent: WindowServer [94]
    Version: 2.0.4 (419.3)
    PID: 345
    Thread: Unknown
    Link (dyld) error:
    Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBook.framework/Versions/A/AddressBook
    Referenced from: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
    Reason: image not found

Ok I fixed it myself. Somehow there was some filesystem corruption which caused some important files to disappear. (Disk first aid told me this.) I restarted in single user mode and ran fsck -yf. It gave me all these horrible file system errors but was able to repair the disk! Things are working fine again- for now.
Now I'll really be happy if this update cures the Moo.

  • Safari 3.2 crash and now won't launch

While reading an online newspaper article safari 3.2 crashed and now will not launch. I tried many of the "standard" remedies without success. The following steps taken: 1.restarted,2. repaired permissions, 3. updated maintenance scripts,
    4. downloaded and installed safari 3.2.1 (which from reading these forums may have been a bad move) 5. logged into second admin account and can launch safari 3.2.1 from there. 3.2.1 does not have my previous urls, thus so far many required sites are gone.
I need to access my old information and want to fix the "corrupt" app. that will not launch from my everyday admin acct.

Very odd you don't have a history.plist file.
There ought to be two History files in that folder:
    History.pist and
    HistoryIndex.sk
Perhaps this is causing the crash. (Note: something in your system may be preventing the History.plist file from being rewritten on the Safari restart. If true, that's a bigger issue. Let's see if the following works before going down that path).
If you have a backup of your system, or at least the Library folder, go to that external source and move the history.plist back to the original location. If not, open another User Account. If necessary, you can create one in System Preferences>Accounts.
There, via the Finder, go to the same source location, i.e.Safari folder. Move the History.plist file there to your HD>Users>User Account>Public>Drop Box folder. Then, log back to your original user account. Go to the Drop Box folder. You'll see the History file. Move it to the Safari folder, then restart Safari.

  • Updated to 10.9.2 - preview now won't launch (starts but crashes on launch and sits 'not responding' and I have to forcequit).

Any ideas of what might be the issue ? The issue appeared 'randomly' about 1 day after updating.
After googling I tried the 'trash the containers' files in the library troubleshooing step, and repaired permissions, which made it work for about 1 day.
Now again on launching preview by any method it sits in the doc not responding as has to be force quitted. I have since retried the 'trash the containers' thing and this didnt work, I emptied my cache, I repaired permissions... I'm stuck!
    Any ideas??!

BTW, OS X 10.9.3 was released. I suggest you download and run the combo updater rather than use the smaller updater via the Mac App Store (MAS).

  • Mail crash now won't launch

I was opening a Mail attachment (a PowerPoint file from a trusted source) last night when my BlackBook suddenly restarted itself for no reason. I happen to think that fact is coincidental to the problem, but at least it gives some background. After a restart (and a permissions repair just to be sure) Mail will not launch - just as it is about to draw the main window it quits. Safe boot has no effect, further permissions repairs also has no effect. Removing the Mail folder from ~/Library/ and home/Library and relaunching Mail from scratch results in Mail starting the Wizard and then it quits out again. Putting my account folders back one by one into the above location also has no effect. I'm also suddenly getting "unexpectedly quit" messages for something called Pub Sub Agent which I'm sure must be related. The crash report says that the thread concerned has "sqlite" in it as well as Pub Sub Agent. Deleting the .plist files for Mail also ineffective.
I'm now at the limit of my knowledge. The only remedy I can think of is to reinstall the OS, which is a bit overkill just to get Mail back. I've downloaded Thunderbird meantime but I really want to get Mail back. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 Updated, now won't launch program or open pdfs

Downloaded and updated 9.4.5 when prompted. Ran update but think there may have been a glitch. I haven't been able to launch the application or open pdf documents since. (OSX 10.6.8).
Was going to uninstall but can't find Acrobat Pro Unistall app. on my computer (Own CS5 Design Premium, and have searched and found the other application uninstallers. See attachment)
    1) Is there some sort of patch or update for this? If not, is there some sort of support where I can contact Adobe directly about this issue? (I already filed a bug report).
    2) Where can I download Acrobat Pro 9.? uninstaller? (I still have my old Mac from CS4, should I try using that???)
Upgrading to CS5.5 and or AcrobatX is not an option at this time. Please advise.

    Thanks for your response Steve.
Don't quite know what happened. I'm technically challenged. I just inserted the disks and double clicked to "install". I have two Macs, one at work and one at home. The one at home which was installed after the one at work looks correct. I am copying that and bringing my application disks to work to uninstall/reinstall.
Main question, is there a problem with Acrobat Pro 9.4.5? Do you suggest I uninstall, re-install this program?
    TIA MrsMelbyElvis

  • ITunes suddenly won't launch

I suddenly can't launch iTunes. I have followed Apple's iTunes uninstall procedure to the letter, restarted my computer and downloaded and reinstalled iTunes, the latest version. It won't even open.
It crashed while I was updating my iPod Touch. I realised it was filing the empty space with music which was going to take too long and clicked off the option. The program suddenly crashed and now won't launch. I removed everything to do with iTunes and reinstalled it several times. Still not working. Are there other files that iTunes uses that are not listed but might be causing the problem? I don't want to have to reinstall the entire operating system and all my programs again just to use iTunes.

Oh yeah... I tried deleting the com.apple.iTunes.plist file. Didn't do anything. Also verified the disk (no issues) and repaired permissions. None of that fixed it...

  • Mail and safari won't launch

    Hello
I have done something very silly. I run 10.3.9 and downloaded and installed Safari 3 not realising it wasn't compatible. It was allowed to install indicating the install was successful. However Safari and mail now won't launch. Have I lost the apps and is there anything I can do to get them back, particularly mail?

  • FC Studio Crossgrade - now app won't launch!

I just got my crossgrade disks yesterday and did the upgarde which took about 6 hours. I launched the app when it was finished, made sure it opened, looked at some old projects, quit, slept the computer all night. Woke up, did some email, shut down, came back 5 hours later and now FC won't launch. DVD SP will launch, Soundtrack Pro will launch but not FC. I'm screwed.
I've done a search, can't find anything on this. I'm going to try and repair permissions and see if that helps.
I used to have issues with it not launching before I did the crossgrade - but I thought was a rosetta issue since I have the same proble with MS Word and excel sometimes - but after a restart, all works fine. I'm running 10.4.8.
    Please help!
    Denise

OK, I've got it working (knock on wood) and here is what happened in case anyone has this issue and pulls this up on a search:
Did the crossgrade - all apps (motion, DVDSP, Soundtrack, FC, etc)
    Did NOT repair permissions
Launched FC immediately after install - launched fine
After about 12 hours of sleep, FC faild to launch. Click icon in dock and arrow below icon comes up for about 1 second and then fades away. No spinning of HD. Attempt to launch from icon in application folder - nothing. Finder remains active, no spinning of HD.
    Repaired permissions - no luck.
    Reset P-Ram - no luck.
    Safe restart - no luck.
Unplugged all connections to computer - safe restart - no luck.
Finally I just popped in the cross grade install disk, unchecked everything except FC and compressor and installed it again.
    Repaired permissions
    Worked last night
Worked again this morning after a shut-down all night.
I guess I'll abandon the sleep thing as well for this computer. Seems OK to do during the day, but not over night.
Thanks for your help everyone. I hope this can help someone in the future.

I just installed Readdledocs on my ipod, and now when I launch the app, I get a screen which says "downloading message" and the app freezes and won't do anything else.  How can I get the app to function again?
This happened after I tried to get Readdledocs to open an epub file which I created in Calibre.

This is a followup to my own posting above.
Thanks to Dave Sawyer for posting information about re-downloading an app which has been deleted.  I deleted the app from iTunes.  Then, when I synched, iTunes asked me if I wanted the items on my ipod touch copied back into iTunes.  I said yes and then synched.
Readdledocs is now working again.  It is no longer frozen.  However, I have learned my lesson.  I will download only pdf's from now on.  I don't think it works so well with epub files.  The text reflow feature of Readdledocs is exactly what I need to use for my work documents on my ipod touch.
