Excel on the iPad

Which App.  works best with MS Excel? I have a pc in the office, but an iPad in the restaurant, and need a good app. so that the iPad and the pc can communicate and understand each other.
Any suggestions?

You have two questions:
how to access the pc excel file.
how to view edit the excel file on the ipad.
how to access the pc excel file.
I'd start off with drop box.  Once you get the hang of DropBox, try one of the syncing apps.
A simple and popular way to copy files.

There is always email.
Windows File server

For syncing pc or mac folders to iPad applications.
"Using SugarSync, you simply designate folders that you want to “sync” to the cloud and it keeps everything in sync anytime you make changes.  This is the way cloud storage should be done and especially if you are using your iPad for buisness or for school."
http://www.tcgeeks.com/best-ipad-cloud-sync-app/
Doug says:
"This can be done with Dropbox as well using one of the many Dropbox addons…"
http://wiki.dropbox.com/DropboxAddons
The only potential downside is that so many apps for the iPhone/iPad come with Dropbox sync built in which makes it extremely convenient.

  • Software recommendations for the iPad

I just got a new iPad and am looking for recommendations for software that will make it useful at work aand at home.
is there a word processing app that will convert to Word?  is there anything like Excel for the iPad?
    thanks!

    Hello:
Word processing = Pages (Apple's WP application).  It converts Microsoft Word documents automatically
Spreadsheet = Numbers.  Converts Excel spreadsheets automatically.
Go to the App store, you will find those (and many others) there.

  • How can I get an excel spreadsheet onto the iPad and make changes to it?  I need this for a meeting this afternoon.

How can I get an excel spreadsheet onto the iPad and make changes to it during my meeting this afternoon?

I just bought splashtop, you have to have your home computer online, and download the pc version.  I have used it ot watch movies and to "go to work" on my ipad.  It controls the desktop through the ipad.  Whiteboard by splashtop does that and more and is on sale.  The education director at the hospital I work at is using that one.
Splashtop 4.99 remote desktop(or laptop) control. Whiteboard 9.99 is remote control and more 9.99

  • I have just recently bought a 13" mac book pro and my dearest wife would like an ipad2 would excel be compatible across the iPad 2 and the MBP?

    Hello people,
Need a little help here, I recently purchased my first ever MacBook Pro and my dearest wife is looking at using an iPad 2 to do some excel spreadsheets for her new cake enterprise.
The question i have is can excel for Mac be transferred over to and from these two devices.
    Thanks in anticipation
    Russ

There are several iPad apps that can read and write Excel files or Excel-compatible files. Numbers is one, and I use it on both my MBP and my iPad, though not heavily on either. I also use Excel on the Mac, and because I'm used to it, I prefer it to Numbers, which works a bit differently.
I would be leery of buying an iPad to use as a substitute for a computer. Typing on it is very inefficient unless you use an external keyboard, and no Mac or Windows software runs on it -- only iOS software. You must use a computer to move files onto and off it, organizing them on it is difficult, and if you don't have a network printer you can't print from it. I dearly love my iPad 2, but it's an adjunct to my heavily-used MBP, not a substitute for one.

There are a number of apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to view/edit/create Excel spreadsheets on the iPad. Three of the most populare ones are :

  • How to create/edit Excel Spreadsheets on the iPad?

    Hi
My mom has an iPad which she wants to  use to create and edit spread sheets. However the Numbers app on the app store does not seem to be compatable with Excel. Are the 3rd Party apps any good? If yes, which is the best one? Also, is apple going to make the app fully compatable with Excel?

I use Documents to Go, but infrequently. QuickOffice is another (perhaps more) popular one. None of these have the full functionality of Excel, however, so you might want to ask about specific ways your mom uses spreadsheets to see if they can handle it.
Also, is apple going to make the app fully compatable with Excel?
Possibly, but nobody here would know for sure until Apple announces it. There is persistent speculation that Microsoft is developing Office for the iPad, but nothing concrete yet.

  • Can you recommend an app to run excel documents off line and let the files be saved to the ipad not over a network connection

Can anyone recommend and app for ipad mini to run excel documents offline and let the files be saved ot the ipad hard drive. I am frequently out of network range and need to be able to run the sheets.

All of the "Office" document editing applications on the iPad have limitations.  Best try them out to see if they meet your needs.

  • How to write a formula in number just like in excel... I simply have not been able to do that ... I am at the point that I think of returning the iPad tomorrow

Have not been able to write a formula in iPad using the key board rather than the iPad menu... For example I am simply trying the write. =sum(k3:k24).  I cannot do that. Why not?

Going to return the iPad simply because you didnt read the help pages? Does that mean that you spent that much money to run a single $10 App on it and that was it?
Look under the wrench icon and tap Help. It has a whole section on how to enter formulas. If your reading this on a desktop or want the web site version of the help section you can folloow this link: http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/1.5/ that has it.

  • I have many Word Docx and Excel spreadsheets. Can I transfer my PC docs and sreadsheets to the iPad, or will I have to buy additional software to have complete sync between my PC and iPad?

Can the ipad 2 sync with my PC docs and spreadsheets?
I am considering the purchase of the iPad 2, but I have mant docs and spreadsheets from years/decades of PC use.
Can I sync (upload my docs) from my PC to the iPad?
P.S. I know nothing about computers.

Thanks, Demo.  You are right about iCloud, but it didn't work for me.  I discovered the reason was a conflict with how my my mobileme account was setup ... a problem many others seemed to have.  Apparantly both mobileme and icloud were attempting to back up my data, and mobileme turned off iCloud from Numbers setting every time I opened a spreadsheet. Once I deleted my mobileme account, icloud worked as it should. Appreciate your help.  It got me to look for and solve the underlying problem.

  • Why does iCal and Calendar on the iPad do not search before year 2000?

I have used for many years with great pleasure the agenda of the Psion MX palmtop computer with GUI and touch screen, dating from 1998. All applications (Office apps, WAP internet plus agenda) on this machine are faultless and this Symbian 50 computer never crashes, uses only two AA cells a month and for me it is almost the perfect mobile companion. But Psion has closed down many years ago and the flexible cable between the moving screen and he mainboard breaks down after 8 years of daily service. Spare parts are hard to get by nowadays and so I decided to switch over to the iPad. My agenda covers data from 1980 on and for me it is a the book of my personal and working life after 1980. So I exported the data from the Psion to my MacBook Pro and synchonized these with my iPad 3. I was a bit shocked to discover that iCal on the mac can *not* "Go To" dates before the year 2000. You have to click by hand every month to reach e.g. 1980 (there is no year tab). Searching on data in history works fine on the mac (backward at least until 1980) But on the iPad somtimes the data in these ancient times is not shown at all, you have first to select your calendars 'off' and 'on' again. Searching for old dat doesn't work either, so again you can only visit those data by tapping by hand, hapily here for previous years. It seems that Apple is not very interested in history, where both the iPad and the Mac don't support looking back more then 12 years. Having programmed myself some financial applications in the 1980th I assume these are vey small missing points in the two applications. Didn't anyone at Apple use these calendars for more than any weeks or did they never tested those for serious use? The calendars both function from 1900 on, so even Einstein could have used them som time of his life. Please do some fixing of these apps (it is *really* a small job) and make these applications more coherent to the excellent hardware of Apple
