Excel queries to MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes stopped working

I update stock quotes in 3 spreadsheets using a query to MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes. Three days ago (after using for 2 years) , the Refresh for Data
Connection would not work, giving me a pop-up with "Unable to open...http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/excel/quotes.asp?SYMBOL =MSFT+ +CSCO+ +ABT+ +...etc"
What is going on? Can we no longer get quotes from MSN?

Create Your Own!
First, navigate yourself to c:/program files/microsoft office/officeXX/queries. The XX is either 12, 13, 14depending on system.
Then copy the MSN Stock Quote file and paste. Rename it YahooQuotes. It will be an .iqy file (inquiry)
Open it with Notepad and put this in it....

Save it. This will allow you to get the same data as from the old moneycentral into a table. From there, you're on your own. BTW, you can play with the "/view/fv" to get different columns.

Problem with 'MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes' in Excel

I have been downloading quotes into Excel using the "MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" connection. On December 23, 2014, this connection stopped working
properly, now seems to be connecting to MSN homepage, and does NOT bring in the requested quotes. Do anyone have a solution or work around for this problem?

As reported earlier, the %Change column is now 100 times larger than it should be.
I use the quotes in other pages of my Excel program as a basis for other Excel calculations. Some of the cells in my it-worked-before-the-December-update worksheet now show "#REF!" errors because
"MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" in Excel is not getting all of the quotes (missing
about 10% of the quotes I used to get). Each time it misses a quote, the missing quote causes all of the following requested quotes to move one row higher. That throws my whole spreadsheet off because references to cells in
"MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" now grab the wrong quote or the Terms of Use or copyright notice below all of the quotes.
It helps to remove any spaces from the quote parameters.
Use "amzn,wmt,cost", instead of "amzn, wmt, cost".

Stocks App Stopped Working Properly

The Stocks App on my 3G iPhone has recently stopped working properly.
When I open it, the current share prices all still come up as expected, but the numbers at the right hand side in the green and red boxes where it tells you the + or - shift for the day no longer show. Now they are all blank.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you have any suggestions to fix it?

My Stocks App stopped working

My stocks app just stopped working. All the stocks that were in the list, as well as, the exchanges got erased. When I added back the dow jones and nasdaq back in, they still don't show any info. Just a green line.

Microsoft 2013 Office programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.) not printing and stop working

Hi,
I just recently installed MS Office 2013 Pro and I cannot seem to make the printing option work. I have tried doing it on Word, Excel and Powerpoint but to no avail. Whenever I choose/click the Print option the program just stops working with a message "Microsoft
Excel/Word/Powerpoint has stopped working". I installed the most recent driver for the HP Laserjet 2200 and still not working.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

If we try to print a PDF file, will it work properly? Please also try to change the default printer to test the problem if you have another printer.
We can also try to run a repair of your Office installation and then try to print again to check the result. See:

Yahoo Finance stock widget stopped working

I am using the Yahoo Finance stock widget on Dashboard that comes with OS X on both a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and an iMac running Lion. In the last few days, both of them stopped retrieving data. For years I have added my own mutual fund symbols to the widget to track my funds, and they have worked fine. Just to see if it made a difference, I removed my fund symbols, and suddenly the widget works again with the default stocks and indices that the widget comes with, on both of my machines.
I don't know what the issue is, but I was curious if anyone knows what is causing this. BTW, I already started using the Fidelity stock widget that is on the Apple widget site. The Fidelity widget works fine on both my machines.

When I've had problems with widgets I was able to fix them by deleting the .plist for the particular widget.
Either hold down the option key and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences. Near the bottom of Preferences are the widget .plists widget-com.apple.widget.widget name. You can move the .plist to your desktop and test. If okay delete the old .plist.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

OW4J Stock Quote Demo Configuration Changes

In the last few days, the Delayed Stock Quote web service published by xmethods has been in a flux. The web service has been taken on and off the website. Today, thanks to Timothy, i noticed that they have changed the URL of the web service to http://64.124.140.30:9090/soap.
Unless you change this parameter in the demo, you will be getting "504 Gateway Timeout" errors.
To get the Stock Quote Demo working, please do the following:
1. Open the StockQuote.jpr Project.
2. Click on the StockQuote.xml process
The structure pane shows the Structure of the Process
3. Click on the SERVICE_PROVIDER_URL process activity attribute (processActivity1 being the process activity)
4. Change the value on the Property Inspector to http://64.124.140.30:9090/soap
5. Save the project and run the demo

THe Error is different now after the settings. Sorry for my earlier post. I am getting the following error message. DO I need to have some SOAP server running in JDeveloper ? If so pl. tell me how to start and configure the SOAP Server in JDeveloper. One more thing, I have the Embedded OC4J Http Server running in port 8988(default in JDeveloper), but inside the URI is configured in ProcessActivityAttribute property as http://localhost:9090. I am not able to understand. Please explain.

EXCEL Stock Quotes

I utilize excel to get live stock quotes for my investment portfolio and 401(k). Yesterday I started receiving a generic MSN sign in page and all my quotes are now gone.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Firefox 4 won't allow My MSN to open Win Live Calendar, Hotmail or provide stock quotes on the default page.

My home page is My MSN. All prev. versions of Firefox opened the Calendar, Hotmail in preview fashion. Click either would take me to their main page. Stock quotes were also displayed, refreshing whenever the page was reloaded. Now, all I see are the banners for Calendar, Hotmail. Stock quotes show only info as to who provides the data. Click on any of the three takes me to the proper page. I've deleated Firefox4, then downloaded twice with no change.
HELP!

Since I could not find a solution, I uninstalled Firefox 4 and installed Internet Explorer 8. Now My MSN works fine.
I also installed then uninstalled Google Chrome. It may be a Microsoft thing that prevents other web browsers from working with My MSN. I am not a fan of MSNBC and may go to another homepage, but after 13 years it's difficult to change.

I've been following this thread and like many others, stock quotes in Excel for Macintosh 2011 stopped working for me shortly before Christmas. While I've noticed that it will work on my work computer which is running windows 7, I can not get it
to work at home on my mac, even when I use the same .iqy file as on the pc. I am at my wits end. Can you offer any help?

MSN MoneyCentral IQY connection failure

Since our last topic shows as answered, I am reposting a new one.
I am using Microsoft Excel 2010 and up until yesterday, 12/22/14 ~10am everything has been working fine. At the moment this connection is still unavailable and instead of quotes it downloads the main MSN money website into a spreadsheet. It appears that http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/external/excel/quotes.asp?SYMBOL=
link from the IQY file is not functional anymore.
There is a number of folks having the same issue, so it is likely that the issue is with MSN.

This is really disappointing that Microsoft is not addressing this issue. For over ten years, I have used this service in my High School Personal Finance classes. Students construct a $100,000 fictitious portfolio and compete with each other
over a 16-week period. We don’t buy and sell, (I am not teaching them to be day traders) but rather hold onto our stock picks for the duration of the semester.
We refresh at the end of each week and compile our data in a line chart that includes a comparison of our results to the DOW.
I realize that I could do this with an online stock market game, but I want my students to gain valuable Excel skills by designing the spreadsheet with multiple worksheets, formulas and conditional formats.
Not having this service available will certainly change the way I teach the investment portion of my class.
I also have my eighth grade classes create macros for footers in both Word and Excel.
Ever since the introduction of MS Office 2007, our macros no longer worked using the recorder.
Now we have to modify our code in order for the macros to execute properly (try getting 25 eighth graders to modify the code!)
As a teacher of MS programs for over 20 years, I often scratch my head when MS doesn’t respond to obvious problems.
My school is on a path to convert our student base to Google Docs (no debate here on which package is more powerful)…my preference is to stay with MS, as I have been a staunch supporter of MS programs, but I sometimes question my allegiance when MS fails
to respond or even acknowledge the requests of their customers.

Stock quote download

Hi, all. I'm new to Numbers and need to learn how to accomplish a stock quote download/import. In Excel I had specially created a menu item that would allow a column of stock tickers to have a column of quotes downloaded in a column to the right of the tickers. (The menu item could also be accessed by a keyboard shortcut, ^ L.) The created menu file in Excel had the suffix XLA. Is there a way to use the XLA file in Numbers? If not is there a way to create menu items?

xla are hidden add-ins. usually containing VBA code that added your menu commands when you load the xla file, and contained the code that those new menu commands ran to get your stocks.
(I write xla's for a international investment firm in my day job)
This functionality is not built into numbers yet. If it is the kind of thing you would want to see in the next version, use the "Submit feedback" option in the numbers menu.
hope this helps explain why it won;t work here. So how to get something to bring in your stocks? Well, you could try copy and paste from a stock page, or find a stock site that will let you download a text file of the stock info and open that up in numbers.

Stock Quotes Feed

I am writing a trading simulator software and I need a reliable real time market feed. Does anyone know what options do I have?
I know yahoo finance has a real time market data feed, but I am not sure how good it is or if it fits my needs.
One problem I am foreseeing is that in order to calculate your exact earning at a certain, you have to be able to get all your stock quotes at the same instant. Calling getQuotes(Security sec) on every stock will probably result in imprecise calculations.
