Excel scroll lock problem

No matter what I do, I can't turn the scroll lock off on Excel. It was all working fine until today. I assume I accidentally hit a wrong combination of keys.
In any case, it is driving me mad. I have wireless keyboard with buttons up to F12, so the F14 fix that I have read about doesn't work for me.
Please please please help. This is consuming me.

Hi,
possible solution - worked for me
I had the same issue on a macbook pro.
As the macbook keyboard has no f14 key I had to find a workaround.
Here we go:
I downloaded "big screen keys" (virtual keyboard), installed, hit f14 on the onscreen keyboard and saved a few thousand mouseklicks.
Big screen keys is freeware. I hope it works for you.

  • Can't turn off scroll lock Mac Book Pro Excel

Suddenly cannot move through cells or enter data in Excel for MAC. Have read all of the discussions on this topic - shift+fn+f12 don't work or any of the other suggested combinations, I have no F14 key or external keyboard, set up keyboard preferences to run fn keys, and there is no scroll lock or keyboard icon in the excel window - nothing works. I somehow turned this on, probably via a keystroke, so I must be able to turn it off - how? I appreciate your help - thank you!

Problem solved. When naming the droplet in the where to save dialog, make you you put a .app at the end of it.
    Now works perfect.

  • Scroll lock function on Excel 2010 on Macbook pro

I am running Excel 2010 on my Macbook pro and cannot seem to switch off the scroll lock.  It will work when I hit the F14 key on my wireless keyboard, but that is in my office and not to hand all the time.  When i restart excel the scroll lock is on again.
As you know on a Macbook Pro the keys only go to F12 but the suggested Shift+FN+F12 doesn't work

I suggest you ask your question on the Microsoft Mac forums as it's their software you're having problems with.  These forums are for troubleshooting Apple products, and not related to your question in any way.

  • Excel arrow keys stop working (NOT SCROLL LOCK)

Excel Office Pro Plus 2013 on windows 7 64 bit.
This has happened since I loaded it.. older excel never has this issue on same host.
When I am working in a spreadsheet and moving around with arrow keys.. they stop working randomly.
It is NOT scroll lock... I can turn scroll lock on and off no effect.
IF I change to another tab then back to the same tab .. the arrow keys work again!!!
This happens in many spreadsheets... seems like the larger they are the worse it it.. VERY annoying and makes it unusable!!
I have all the latest patches and have rebooted .. this has been going on since I loaded excel.. I was hoping a patch would fix it..
    but it keeps happening randomly...
    ANY ideas?

    Hi Ken,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.

  • Turn off scroll lock

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and cannot turn off scroll lock, so when using Excel the arrow keys move the spreadsheet rather than the next cell.  I have searched numerous threads and all refer to F14 plus either shift or command but I can't find any reference to the shortcut for F14.

    Hi,
I had the same problem (Macbook Air) and the only way I could solve it was by plugging in a USB keyboard (it was a microsoft keyboard) then pressing shift-Scroll Lock.
Simply pressing Scroll-Lock only activated the keyboard illumination control so did not work.

  • Disabling scroll lock in New Imac keyboard

    Hello world,
I'm recently using Office 2011 for Mac and I have a problem with excel. Accidentally I made a mac key combination and I disabled the scroll lock. I want to enable it again in order to move the cell selected using the arrow keys. I can not use Ctrl-F14 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/cdb_winkeys.html) because the new keyboard only have from F1 to F12.
How can I made to solve it?
    Thanks so much!

  • SCROLL LOCK from a normal KEYBOARD

Hi I need to be able to turn on and off at my leisure the SCROLL LOCK KEY.
How is it possible that I can not activate this key even with the virtual keyboards ?
there must be the possibility to map this key to another key on the keyboard. I need to use this key SCROLL LOCK to work with excel and beyond.SCRO
Plus if you buy a keyboard ( not apple ) that uses that key for some functions, such functions can I use this ?
seems absurd to me that there is a possibility via the terminal, via dedicated app or other way to be able to map this key on the keyboard of the Mac. in particular find it ridiculous that this problem is present only on Mac OS X. I have a MacBookPro 15 "early 2011 with OS vers , 10.7.5

A menu title means to write the available menu item (such as Print) as you see it in it's menu.
However, scroll lock does not have a menu in the Finder or anywhere.
    You're right there. Dead end?
But looking at Mac Help with scroll lock as the topic, I found that Control + F14 is the keyboard equivalent for scroll lock. You'll find this under "Windows Keys on a Mac Keyboard."
Whether you can remap that I don't know.

It has been years, but wasn't Scroll Lock just a toggle for Control-S / Control-Q to tell the serial port device driver to pause and continue sending data to the terminal?
I haven't actually used serial port flow control since the last time I used a dial-up modem into work BEFORE everything was done over the internet.
Or is this some Windows retasking of the original Scroll Lock found on real physical terminals?
If I may ask, what are you doing with Scroll Lock?
Karabiner has some remappings that mention Scroll Lock.  Maybe they are something you are looking for.

  • Unexpected Scroll Lock issues

My T400 laptop will suddenly act as if the scroll lock is on.
I cannot turn off the scroll lock when I am using the laptop keyboard; in that situation I must log off and reboot.
I can stop the scroll lock when the laptop is docked and I am using an external keyboard.  When I disengage the scroll lock, the scroll lock light turns on and operates backwards until the laptop is rebooted.
Please advise if this problem has a fix.  (One of my co-workers also experienced this on the same model laptop.)

I got this problem on excel running under Parallels
Finally got it, I hope it helps:
Or, if you're working on Windows on a mac via bootcamp or virtualization software (Fusion or Parallels), you can either do:

    Or go to:
    Start->All Programs->Accessories->Accessibility->On-Screen Keyboard

  • Scroll Lock

I seem to have Scroll Lock on, and cant work out how to turn it off.
Running MS Excell 2004, a green light is on next to SCRL at the bottom of the page, and the arrow keys scroll the screen instead of moving between cells. On a PC (sorry, recent convert from the darkside), there's a Scroll Lock key on the keyboard which toggles this on and off. How do i do it on my Mac Book?

  • How to scroll lock on a mac

Looking to upgrade my mac and was wondering if the new mac book pros have the capability to scroll lock.  I need this feature for programs I use at home for work.  Thanks I know it's a silly question but it is not easy possible to do on my older macbook.

    cyndycapecod wrote:
I can't scroll lock on my current MacBook now that is the problem.  I don't have a F14 key which seems to be the key people suggest to try or the F12 +alt+function.  I even purchased an external full keyboard hoping this would work but to no avail.
The catch is that OSX will intercept the function keys and use them for itself.  Make sure you don't have anything using F14.  Either in System Preferences, or any other third party add-ons that give mouse or keyboard shortcuts or extras.
Since Macs don't use Scroll Lock, this is why I mention it's up to the app to give you a scroll lock.
...I'd hate to purchase a PC to do work from home but I may have to.
I'm not using "apps" I am logging in remotely from home to my work PC using GoToMyPC from there I can access any program that is on my work PC.
    Thanks
In your case the "app" is GoToMyPC.  See if GoToMyPC has a option to "send key".  I use LogMeIn, which has a send ctrl-alt-del, but not send Scroll Lock.  Hopefully GoToMyPC does, which would be best in your situation.
Otherwise there are only two ways I know of to do what you want from within OSX:
Use Windows' onscreen keyboard on the office computer.  (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Accessibility.  Different versions of Windows may have it in slightly different locations.)  With a large screen on a desktop, this may be acceptable.  (On LogMeIn, I can have the host screen "fit" or zoomed in to my remote screen's size, which makes the onscreen keyboard usable for me.)
Microsoft Remote Desktop.  The Mac app for Remote Desktop Connection (sometimes known as Remote Desktop Protocol or Terminal Services) has an option that you can map keys.  I verified that Scroll Lock is possible.  Due to the limited number of keys on the Macbooks, you'll have to find something that's not in use by either OSX or Windows.  (For example, in the test, I used Shift-F12 for Scroll Lock.)
The catch with 2) is that you'll need to be able to configure port forwarding on your company's firewall, or preferably have a VPN.  While a VPN is more complex to setup, IMHO a VPN is necessary because of some vulnerabilities discovered with the older version of the protocol, which the Mac client still uses.
The only other option would be not running OSX when connecting to the office.  Note, this does not necessarily mean getting a PC.  You could install Windows in Boot Camp.  You'd still have the problem of no actual Scroll Lock key on the Mac, but since OSX is not running, any full sized keyboard plugged into the Mac would then send the F14/Scroll Lock key correctly to the office computer.  (Or running Windows in a virtual machine, but there are limitations with that as well, although the VM is more convenient in that you don't have to boot "out of" OSX like you would with Boot Camp.)

  • Scroll lock on extended mac keyboard

I use bootcamp dual booting 7ultimate/snowL in an Intel Macbook Pro. MS Excel has a screwy feature that makes the arrow keys move the page instead of move to cells if the scroll lock is on. If you are frustrated by this the extended mac keyboard scroll lock is toggled by the F15 key.

  • Apple Aluminum keyboard--scroll lock

I have had my new mini for awhile and recently added the new keyboard. I don't normally use the scroll-lock feature, but have on occasion in the past. Now, for no reason I can discern, all of my Excel sheets have the Lock ON, but I can no longer find how, on this keyboard, to disable the function. Help!!

My son came up with the solution; in case anyone ever runs into thi!. I turned off QuicKeys, then pressed Command F14, then turned QuicKeys back on.

  • Remap "Scroll Lock" on external PC keyboard

I've got my iBook and a PC laptop on an IOGEAR KVM so I can use my much-beloved MS Keyboard Pro and external mouse with both computers.
There are two key options for switching between computers, Scroll Lock (the default) or Ctrl. I can't use Ctrl because I use it all the time on the Windows side for keyboard shortcuts and I find my self inadvertently switching computers.
But the default Scroll Lock key turns down the brightness on the iBook. So everytime I double-tap the key to switch, the iBook gets dimmer. I know that I can press the Pause key to increase the brightness again, but I'd like to avoid the problem completely by remapping the Scroll Lock key.
I've found a few different utilities which I guess will help (such as Ukelele) but I'm quite a fish out of water trying to use these apps.
I don't really need to do advanced custom keyboard layouts, just change the function of this one key. Can anyone offer a suggestion for this?

  • My keyboard has gone haywire, shift keys and scroll Lock keeps turning on by themselves!

Hello, recently I have a problem typing with my laptop. Mutliple times a day, both of the shift keys, and the scroll lock key turns on by themselves. These are the problems I face when typing: 1. Unwanted text is highlighted2. Letters are capital although caps lock is not on.3. When I try to browse in Google Chrome, text gets deleted and random windows start to pop up4. For some reason the word "QWEPRUIO" starts appearing sometimes when I type.
    5. Someimes while I type, suddenly the text gone missing and an asterik * appears.6. Also when this happens, my wi-fi gets turned off automatically. IT guys at my work place tried fixing it but we can't seem to find the problem source. Please help me, this is getting rather annoying especially I am using the laptoo for work!It took me more than half an hour to type a decent email to my client  Thanks!

By any chance did something get spilled onto the keyboard (even a small amount)? Liquids can definitely cause this type of issue (Trust me, I know from experience, I have kids.). If you rule that out then open the System Preferences and click on the Keyboard settings, put a check in the 'Show Input menu in menu bar' box. This will add a menu bar pull down menu that will allow you to 'Show Keyboard Viewer.' If you select the 'Show Keyboard Viewer' option does the keyboard layout match the keyboard you are using? When you press the keys you are having issue with does the corresponding key light up on the keyboard viewer? Please post your results.
