Excell wont open - "not enough memory"

I've asked this question before but no one has been able to steer me in the right direction. I have a 200GB HD with 70 GB left. My other windows apps work. I am currently running OSX 10.9.1 and the verison of Exell is 12.3.6
My Mac Book is about 5 years old

Nok76,
unfortunately I’m going to have to resort to nerding you out at times to get the information that I need to help solve your problem. In case of future problems, you should record some of the nerdisms that I bandy about, because most likely other people here would require similar nerdological information to be able to help you.
If it’s the version that you get from Apple, then you have a Boot Camp partition. When you run Windows from the Boot Camp partition, which version of Windows are you running — Windows XP, or Vista, or Windows 7, or Windows 8? Also include the “subversion” of the Windows version — e.g. “Windows XP Home”, “Windows 7 Professional”, and other slightly more detailed descriptions of that ilk — and the Service Pack level, if any.
When you boot into OS X, and select About This Mac from the Apple menu, and then press the “More Info…” button, a window appears with a picture of your computer. In big black type at the top of that window, does it say that you have a MacBook, or that you have a MacBook Pro? In smaller grey type below the big black type, what does it say about your model? (For example, mine says “13-inch, Mid 2010”.)

  • ITunes won't open: "Not enough memory available"

Whenever I try to open iTunes, I immediately get this error message: "The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available." I click OK and iTunes quits, and that's the end of the conversation. Does anyone know why this is happening? It can't mean RAM, since I have 185MB free and 492MB inactive, and it can't mean HD space because I have 21.4GB free, which is unusually high. This just started occurring today, for no apparent reason. Please help me, I want to watch The Office!
Edit: I just tried running a copy of iTunes from a backup I have, and it works just fine, so it has to be something with my computer specifically.

    Hey, I had a similar problem. . .
My problem was that I had mine skinned (with aqua for itunes) and for some reason it wouldn't open for that same error message i reopened aqua for itunes and told it to unskin it and restore it to regular settings and itunes works like a charm, does that help any (although i really like the look from aqua for itunes)

  • ITunes could not be opened-not enough memory: "3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX" FIXED

    iTunes: 6.04 (3)
    QT: 7.0.4
    OSX: 10.4.6
After reading through other posts regarding this message, "The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available." and trying what everyone else had tried (rebooting, repair permissions, delete iTunes prefs, re-install, change theme, create new user) my iTunes still told me I did not have enough RAM. I have 2GB installed and more than 16GB free on the hard drive. There were no problems found when using disk utility to verify the hd.
Then I remembered that I was trying to watch a movie yesterday in quicktime and the audio wouldn't play. I searched and found a couple codecs to try; msmpeg41, msmpgv2 and '3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX.' (none of which allowed me to hear the AC3 audio track. Had to convert to divx/mp3 with ffmpegx) After removing/replacing the new codecs one by one while trying iTunes, I narrowed it down to the 3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX codec. When it is in my /Library/Quicktime folder, iTunes tells me I don't have enough memory and quits. When I pull it out, all is fine. So even if you didn't install the codec that gave me problems, other QT codecs could potentially stop iTunes from opening.
    Hope this helps someone.

It's a unified GUI program http://gui.interacto.net/ and some people (including me) have had this error message when using it with iTunes 7 Their latest version 1.3.1 seems to overcome this, but if you are not using it ........!
It might be worth reading this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3095171&#3095171 as a couple of people on it have tried other things

  • ITunes will not open, not enough memory???

I keep getting this message. I have nothing else running and have tried restarting with no luck. What is the problem? It just started happening all of a sudden after turning mac on for 1st time today.

One simple thing to try is to go to System Preferences->Accounts are create a new account. Then log-in through that account and see if you can open iTunes there. If you can, then you know there's something amiss with your configuration, not with iTunes in general.

  • ITunes application cannot be open - not enough memory? OS X 10.4.11

    Hey Folks.
I'm on OS X 10.4.11 and I just did the system upgrade and i guess it upgraded me to the latest itunes... but i'm getting this message, does anyone know why? and how to fix plz?

<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://i34.tinypic.com/2vj6gkx.png <-- screenshot of the activity monitor on my machine.
    Plz help.
    -Joey

    Hey Adrienne.
Yah I just noticed this problem after I got the hard disk replaced from the Apple Care shop... I just took a snapshot of just the iTunes program opened and got the same message
    http://i37.tinypic.com/104hgmv.jpg
And it shows that it's 2GB ram in the apple - about mac.
    http://i35.tinypic.com/32znf6f.png
Im going to delete iTunes and download a fresh copy from the Apple downloads section and see what happens... if the problem still persists then that's weird cause its only the iTunes program that's not loading for me.
It might be the upgrade software I did when I got back my MacBook Pro... they installed me Mac OS X 10.4 and i did the software upgrade in Apple menu.
    Any other thoughts?

You need to find the "Update" app and run it.  It will check to see if your phone needs an OS update, or if any programs you've installed from the App Store have been updated.

  • Microsoft Excel won't open because it says there is not enough memory?

I'm trying to open Microsoft Excel and a prompt appears stating that there is not enough memory even though I have 140gb available of a 250gb hard drive. Any suggestions?

You're right, i did. But how do I clear out available RAM? When I check the Activity Monitor and then System Memory it says I have 1.3gb available. That SHOULD be enough. Right?

  • Can't open Excel - not enough memory

I recently converted files from a PC over to this mac by using an external hard drive. Among other things I don't quite know how to do, I get an error message-not enough memory- when trying to open excel. Word works fine. It is Microsoft 2007. Checked memory on disk and it is far from full. Please help!

    HI and welcome.....
I get an error message-not enough memory- when trying to open excel.
Open System Profiler (Applications / Utilities). Under Hardware you can see how much RAM (memory is installed)
And make sure there is sufficient space on the startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

As Excel is not an Apple product, I believe you will get more useful help by using Microsoft's support community for Office:Mac here:

  • Not enough memory message when opening excel and powerpoint

I am running Mac OS X version 10.5.8. I installed Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac about a year ago and was running it without any trouble until about 3 months ago. I can still open Word, but receive a 'not enough memory' message when I try to open Excel or Powerpoint. Has anyone else encountered this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks

Yes I have and I think that's when the problem occurred. I've just read another post from someone who was having the same problem. Apparently the solution is just to keep hitting the escape button every time the error message pops up and eventually the application opens! Not very high tech, but I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on.

  • 'Not enough memory' when opening Excel, Word or ppt

When I try to open Excel, Word or ppt, I get a pop up box stating 'Not enough memory'.
I am running the latest update and through Disk Utility have done a repair disk.
    HELP!
I have run a search on google to solve the problem but the solutions appeared far too 'techie'.
I can follow reasonable guidance but was lost even reading their proposed solution.
    Any guidance much appreciated.

    Grant,
    thank you for your post.
I am using Microsoft Office 2008.
I used the Activity monitor to read System Memory to determine how much RAM is being used:
    In response to your Questions:
Total Memory in the Mac = 4 GB
Free (Green) = 1.41 GB (1 third of the pie)
    Wired (Red) = 733.7 MB
    Active (Yellow) = 1.64 GB
    Inactive (Blue) = 232.6 MB
    Used = 2.58 GB
    Page Outs = 0 bytes (0 bytes / sec)
    Swap used = 0 bytes
Does anyone have any solutions now I have provided a bit more information?
Thank you, I can't function without being able to access word & excel.
    Reinstall Office 2008.

  • Why does my Mac keep telling me that there is not enough memory when I need to open Excel?

I have Excel installed on my iMac.
I only use this rarely, mostly when I have grants to write for my students.
When I try to open Excel, to look at an old document, I get the message that there is not enough memory, even though my Mac right now has 74 GB available.
I really, really, really need to access these files, so am hoping for an answer to this puzzle!
    Thanks so much!!!

OK, so here's what I did.
First time, I reinstalled Office: 2008.  It must have sent the first one to the trash, because there were 9200+files in the trash once it was finished.  It looked for updates but didn't tell me that it needed any, so I tried to access Excel again, but got the same error message.
So, then I dragged the whole Microsoft Office 2008 to the trash (it is still sitting there----question about this, too).  I reinstalled the whole thing again, but this time, it identified 3 updates that also needed to be installed.  I did that, and now, I am able to open Excel!
Now my question about the trash:  if I empty the trash, am I going to lose all the files (especially worried about all the Word documents) that I had used the original one for, or, are all those documents, and the Excel files, still  there after the trash with the original Office 2008 is emptied; I wasn't able to only drag Excel to the trash so had to drag the whole thing.
Am thinking that somehow those updates were never applied, which is very puzzling, because the first time I reinstalled, it didn't say anything about needing updates, but the second time, it did.
    Thank you!

    Hi,

To detail the steps, please do as I describe:
    Important
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the
registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry,
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry
To open the Registry Editor, please press Win + R, type regedit in the blank box, press
Enter. / Or we can type regedit.exe in Windows 8.1 Search, you'll find it easily.
Now the Registry Editor is open.
Then we see the pane on left, expand the following path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Then we can see a list on right, find Cache, right click on it, click
Modify..., under Value data, change the value to something like
    C:\Windows\Temp, click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
As for "You might also right click on the file with file explorer, choose Properties, then General tab and click on the Unblock button." Just find the file, right click on it, choose
Properties, under General tab, if you see a
    Unblock button, click on it.
"Some of our customers found it sometimes a permission problem.
cmd  => dcomcnfg" Do the following:
Press Win + R, type in cmd in the blank box, press
    Enter.
In the new black-background window, type in dcomcnfg, press
    Enter.
Then the Component Services window will pop up, on the left pane, expand
    Component services -> Computes ->
My Computer -> Dcom config -> and select
Microsoft Excel Application, right click on it -> Properties ->
Identity tab -> Select The interactive user ->
    OK.
I hope I've explained the steps clearly.
    Good luck.
