Excellent Support

Just wanted to say a sincere "thank you" to Vinayak (I think I spelled that correctly) for such excellent help with Adobe Creative Cloud DW CS6 which was tied to my personal AdobeID, but I need to use Dreamweaver to get into my BC partner accounts --my company AdobeID.  This sort of stuff is bound to occur with new products and systems, and it took some time and patience and faith that I could handle it to get it fixed.
That made a world of difference!! It would have been so easy just to "refer" the question, etc.  Instead, it is now resolved.  Wow!! Great job!

Thanks for the feedback!
I'll surely pass this along to the team and Vinayak (you've spelt it correctly).
Cheers!

  • When will Excel Support Tabular Model Table and Column Descriptions via Tool Tip or other display mechanism

I have noticed that SSMS supports tool tips for the Tabular Model (tables and columns) however Excel 2013 doesn't appear to.   This is a very important feature to our end users.
Does anyone know when this will be supported?
    Thanks
    M Meyer

    Hi Meyer,
According to your description, you want to use the tooltip function in Microsoft Excel for the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular model, right?
I have tested it on my local environment (Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1 and Excel 2013), the result is that the feature is not supported currently. It's hard to say the detail date when this will be supported. If this feature is enabled, Microsoft will announce
    it on the document.
Besides, if you have any concern about this behavior, you can submit a feedback at
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback and hope it is resolved in the next release of service pack or product. Your feedback enables Microsoft to make software and services the best that
they can be, Microsoft might consider to add this feature in the following release after official confirmation.

  • Props to the Apple forums for excellent support

Most people are quick to lodge complaints, but I wanted to take a moment to complement the community and the way that they help their users.
I received a new iMac 24" for Christmas this year and it was the first Mac that I've ever tried to use. (I'm an ex-windows user) I needed help with the simplest things, like "How do I install a program without a setup.exe file, and more involved stuff like my apple care warranty not registering properly, and importing my contacts lists from MS Outlook for Win XP to Address Book on OS X.
To date, I haven't posted anything on your forums that wasn't resolved within a day (usually less) of my request. The wealth of experience and the dedication to the platform of the user community is refreshing for someone who's used to sitting on hold for a Microsoft Tech for 2 hours.
So, I just wanted to say *Thank you* for making my transition to Mac a painless experience so far. I have much to learn yet, but there appears to be no shortage of people capable and willing to help me with my questions.

  • What CSS Standard does Excel 2010/2013 support when importing a web page?

When I import a web page into Excel (either 2010 or 2013) it appears to only support CSS2 selectors (e.g. :nth-child(n) does not work). Can you point me to some documentation that tells me exactly what Excel supports?
My web page also uses multiple classes on html elements (e.g. class="header group0"). While these are styled correctly in IE, when I import to Excel the styling on these elements is ignored. Can you tell me if this is a restriction for importing
into Excel or am I missing something?

  • Supports opening Excel but not Numbers?

Who was the genius that gave the phone Excel support but not Numbers? Please tell me he's been fired already and I'll sleep good tonight.

    I may be dense but...
What do you mean another reason to switch?
If the reason for switching was to run Excel, we have come to the end of mankind.
There are a lot more reasons significant reasons to switch from your existing cellular to the iPhone other than Excel. I would think that Excel should be way down on the list.

  • Using Excel with Visual C++ 6.0 (need a graph control that behaves as much like the one in CVI as possible)

I hate to beat this to death but I was unable to find a
clear answer to this question.  Does NI provide Excel control from within
    Visual C++ 6.0?
I read that NI supports the ANSI-C library only for Visual C++ 6.0 users:
Thread : "Re: Benifits of using measurment
    studio for VC++ 6.0?"
    NI REP : drohacek
Quote  : "we made the decision to support Visual
C++ 6.0 users only through the ANSI-C interface and not through the Measurement
    Studio MFC-based class libraries."
If there is a suggested way of controlling Excel from within Measurement Studio
for Visual C++ 6.0 then I’d love to know it.
If not, can a plain statement be made basically stating that if you want
to control Excel you can’t use a Visual C++ 6.0 environment even with Measurement
    Studio support?
With .NET of course you can just decide to have Excel support added during
project creation.  CVI can act as an ActiveX server and easily control
Excel just by building off the examples shipped with CVI.  I see that
there is support, using the Measurement Studio for Visual C++ 6.0 Project Wizard,
for taking existing CVI projects and converting them to Visual C++ 6.0 projects
or for calling CVI libraries from a .dll from within Visual C++ 6.0.  I suppose I could do the work
in CVI and then convert the project but I'm so deeply tied into all my MFC calls that I don't see
how I can cleanly include the CVI libraries into my existing VC++ 6.0 projects.
What I'm really after here is a visual graph control like the one in CVI that I
can use from Visual C++ 6.0.  I purchased a 3rd party graph control for use
in VC++ 6.0 that works well but isn't really visual.  I mean you can't
enter any values in it until you run the program and fill it out programmatically.
Then you can see which columns are two narrow, quit the program, adjust the
column width of your now empty control, and repeat, until you get the thing
looking the way you want.  If I could call into Excel from within Visual
C++ 6.0  the way I do from within .NET
then I could use Excel to hold the table and just read in the values into my table
control at run time.  Basically I'd use Excel as a visual development tool
    for all my tables.
I do all my coding from within CVI and Measurement Studio for Visual C++
6.0.  I'd use CVI for everything if I didn't depend so heavily on certain
outside controlled C++ .dll's.  Could you please suggest then what I can
do to get Excel support for Visual C++ 6.0?
    Last question :
Is there any plan to ever have a NI table control like the CVI table control for
use in Visual Studio?  One that you can
completely set up before you do any compiling?
I imagine that the way Microsoft sets up their environment makes this idea impossible.  Otherwise someone would
have come up with a truly “visual” table control before now.
    Thanks,

    Hello Grant
You can most certainly use Excel with VC++ 6.0. Measurement Studio won't provided you with any classes to talk to Excel in VC++ 6.0. This is because Excel allows control via Automation and you can use its automation API to do anything you need with Excel. This is what CVI uses as well.
You can see this MSDN article on how to set this up. This mentions VC.NET, but it should work the same way.
Here is one that talks about VC 6.0 and Excel.
Here is a code project article about this.
Even with .NET, you have to do thru the Excel Automation support. Excel started shipping with Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) which are .NET wrappers about the Excel Automation object model. C++ Automation is definetely not as nice as .NET, BTW
See this document for more information about the Excel object model.
I would not recommend using the CVI Excel libraries if all you want to use them for is Excel automation. You will end up creating un-necessary dependencies and go through extra layers that way. You can make calls straight to Excel from VC++ without requiring CVI.
One quick observation about your excel approach. If you decide to use Excel as your table, you might be requiring everyone who uses your application to have Excel installed on their machines. Just wanted to make sure this was acceptable to you.
Have you looked at the Datagrid Activex control, which is one of the common controls that ships with Visual Studio? You can add it to Visual Studio by right-clicking and picking it from the list of installed activex control. If you have not already, you should check it out.
Microsoft has made significant improvements in the number of controls they provide with .NET. They have a Datagrid control that seems to be what you need.
Measurement Studio did add some high level classes for Excel and Word Automation that simplify some common tasks, but these exists for VS 2003 C++ and VS 2005 C++, not for VC 6.0. Underneath, we end up using the same Excel automation classes, so you can easily setup something similar for VC 6.0. Plus you can find alot of references online on how to use the Excel Automation object model with C++.
We currently have no plans in Measurement Studio to create a table control unfortunately. I am assuming when you said graph, you actually meant table, since Measurement Studio already  provides a ActiveX graph controls for VC++ 6.0 that is very similar to the CVI graph.
On a side note, VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?
    To summarize
    - Yes, you can use Excel with Vc++ 6.0 without mstudio.
    - Try using the Datagrid Activex control if you just need a table.
    - Measurement Studio provides high-level excel and word classes for VC++ 6.0
    - Measurement Studio provides a graph control for VC++ 6.0 which is very similar to the CVI graph.
    - Measuremnt Studio does not have a table control.
    - VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?

  • How to determine data type of cell in Excel file

I have a company standard Excel file that needs to be read to determine what tests to run.  I have no control over its format.  I need to be able to tell what the data type is in order to read it using the LabView sample code.  It is a hodge poge of numbers and strings.  Some of the numeric fields are formated as hex while some are floating point.  There does not appear to be a vi that I can call to determine info about the cell formating.  As I remember it, the Windows Active X control for accessing Excel support that.  I really was hoping to avoid dealing with the Active X control for Excel directly.
    Any help/ideas?
Outputting it in CSV or similar is not an option.

If you have to deal with Excel directly, I don't see how you're going to get around using Active X.

but the requirement is to generate excel 2003 file.
I tried changing the .xlsx to .xls and it gives a note while opening the file "The file you are trying to open, abc.xls, is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"Then you have three options:
    1) stop using anton's package and find another one that supports the old and deprecated version of Excel 2003
    2) write your own package to produce an Excel file.
    3) Upgrade your version of Excel to a recent version
I tried the programs from other links on the forum but I am still getting this message. The client does not want this message to be displayed as the excel file works as an input to another system.
Can anyone help me with the issue?
Also, is it true that the programatically generated excel file is actually an xml file which is renamed to .xls and hence it shows the message while opening such files?Yes, Excel supports several different formats for it's files. By default, if you save an XLS files from Excel, it writes it out in a Microsoft proprietary binary format, which you would be hard pushed to replicate easily from PL/SQL. Excel also has the ability to save it's files as XML format, which is more readable and easier to produce programatically, whilst still allowing you to have multiple sheets, formulas and formatting included in it. That's the format that most people who need formatting and multiple sheets opt for when programatically generating their data as excel workbooks. (There's also an SLYK format that people used to use before that, but it's not as flexible)
If you want to write your own, the easiest thing to do is to start with a blank workbook in Excel, and put in your basic requirements e.g. a couple of named sheets, and some data in different formats (number, date, text etc.) and different formatting options etc. Save that file in XML format from Excel and then open up the file using notepad/wordpad to look at the structure. There'll be a whole load of redundant rubbish Microsoft put in there, but you should be able to figure out the basic structure of XML required to give you what you want.

    Hi,
We have installed LiveOffice. This is visible in all MS Office applications like powerpoint, word and excel for the administrator .

    Thanks in advance.

    I'm experiencing this same issue.
I'm running XI 3.1 with Live Office SP6 and Excel 2010
I used the Live Office "Enable Add-in" tool to enable Excel support for Live office 3.1
I launch Excel, and I see the Add-in for Business Objects Live Office 3.1 is present, however---
it does not appear in the Excel menu bar
and when I try to customize the excel toolbar or ribbon, it (Live Office) does not appear as an available option

When I execute a query in excel, it gives some errors if it has some variables (From Date, To Date etc):

I need to execute the query and then save a view. I want to do this in excel as I am not able to save a view if I execute in a web browser.

Of course Excel supports input of variable values.

Please check if you can execute the query in TA RSRT. You could try to generate the query again here.

  • How do i covert a mailing list to excel format

how do i covert a mailing list to excel format

    Hi denniss89996260,
What file format is that mailing list in? If it's a PDF file, you can use either Export PDF or Acrobat to convert the file to Excel format.
If your mailing list is in a format other than PDF, then Acrobat isn't what you need. You would want to check with Microsoft to see whether it's in a format that Excel supports.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Does excel sheets work on Numbers3.0

can you open an excel work sheet in numbers 3.0?

you can open excel workbooks in numbers, and those workbooks can contain multiple sheets. Which will show up as individual tabs in numbers with a single table on each that holds the data for each sheet from excel.
If you add tables to the sheets in numbers they will be turned into individual sheets in the new excel export you do.
Please remember that not all functions are available in numbers that excel supports, nor is VBA supported, adn currently there is no applescript workaround currently.

  • Export to excel saves to .txt

    Hi All,
When an user export any file to excel it saves as .txt,
How can I solve that and what is the reason for it.
    thanks in advance.

While it would be possible to create a true Excel format document, the processing burden would be higher, it would require that Excel be on all machines (which is recommended now), and would be more likely to fail when upgrades are done to Excel.
The alternative is to use a text-based format that is recognized by Excel.  SAP opted to use a tab-delimited file.  Unlike a comma-separated value file, which has an extension of .csv, the common extension Excel wants to see for a tab-delimited file is .txt.  You may view this yourself by opening Excel, selecting "Save As..." and examining the various formats and extensions (I tested in Excel 2007).
So the best way to present this to a customer is to point out that Excel wants to see a .txt. extension for this Excel-supported format, and that SAP uses that to give the customer the ultimate flexibility with their spreadsheet software, including not having any at all.

  • Request for official ethernet bonding support

Arch already has excellent support for LVM. I run two machines with LVM2. In order to make AL even more server friendly, what about adding bonding support? It shouldn't involve too much work, just an extra if block in etc/rc.d/network, an official ifenslave package, and one or two lines in rc.conf.
There is a user contribution that does it here:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=3082
...but it is a little unpolished and is not official.
I think this would be a useful addition (especially for people like me, who like Arch for fast servers) that wouldn't take too much time from the devteam.
    Thanks for the consideration!

arch is growing that fast, it is hard to keep an overview. but as long as i, as an "afternoon linux user", can get any information, it is fine with me.
