Except for telephone ringtone, all alerts sound for only a few seconds following latest os update

After updating my Z10 to the latest operating system this week, I found that alerts for my BBM, Wotsapp, Sms and email only sound for about 8-10 seconds. My ringtone for calls is played in full though.
All of the alerts used the correct tones (.mp3 tracks); nevertheless, I reset them by navigating each app to the correct alert. But nothing changed.
Is there a way to resolve this please? I need more time to hear an alert when not in a quiet environment.
Has anyone else had the same problem?

I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!

Ipod recognized by computer for only a few seconds?!

My ipod froze up while it was plugged into the computer. I unplugged it and reset it, but now it keeps showing a folder or a battery w/ an exclamation mark when i plug it into the AC adapter. When I plug it into the computer, it'll show the same icons, but then will be recognized by the computer for only a few seconds flashing the "do not disconnect" screen. Is there any way I can fix my ipod? I've tried to update the software on it, but that doesn't work since the computer only recognizes the ipod for only a few seconds. Any help is much appreciated. Try the instructions in this article; if disk use isn't enabled for the iPod, it will disappear from the computer after the synchronization process is complete.

Started downloading CD's to iPod classic. Plenty of spacr left, but Ipod stopped syncing with my music/play list. Sync notification appears for only a few seconds then stops. Sync scroll bar on music/play list never scrolls. Any suggestions?

Which version of iTunes and which iPod Classic model are you using?
Have you tried to Reset the iPod and download again?

Why does my song play for only a few seconds?

I purchased & downloaded an entire album from itunes but the first song, the title track, will only play for a few seconds before skipping to the next song. It's a 3min long tune but all I get is 3-4 seconds of play. How can I ensure that I get the entire track that I paid for?

If you can do a second download in your country delete the track completely from your iTunes library, then re-download.

Headphones work for only a few seconds after plugging in

When I plug my headphones in, sound comes through perfectly for several seconds, then cuts out. Unplugging the headphones and putting them back in brings the sound back for a few seconds, then it cuts out again. The sound from the internal speakers works perfectly, the problem is only with the headphones. Jiggling the headphone jack doesn't do anything. Has anyone else experienced this? I just got my MacBook for christmas and the problem has been there since the first time I turned the computer on.

I did have a problem with missing sound which was cured by checking the HD/Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup/Audio Devices and ensuring that the sample rate format was set to 44.100.0hz. This was a "No Audio on YouTube" problem but fixed when I found the Midi setting to be 96khz or similar.
My only further thought before dragging the machine back to the store is an OS reload.
My core duo was not behaving correctly out of the box and had several problems among which iSight camera on and not responding, so I did a clean install from disc of the operating system.
Tiresome I know but in my case it cleared everything and the Mac's been fine since.

Xperia Z, Out of Warranty holding charge for only a few hours since Kit Kat Update

I am a hapless owner of Xperia Z. I purchased my phone in March 2013 in India during the month of its launch.
A day after I purchased I noticed that the phone was over heating like ****** and sent it to service center. After I received it back, it was working fine . I managed a workaround for heating by using a think case.
I moved to USA and here again I had to send my phone to service center for USB Connectivity Issues.
Now, since the Kit Kat update, my phone doesn't lasts for more than 4 hours and there's simply no communication from SONY on when will it be fixed. Now because my phone is out of warranty and I don't have a copy of my bill, the customer care refuse to entertain it or redirect to thier service centre.
I feel cheated as I invested my hard earned money on an expensive paper weight and with Customer care showing total apathy. All I want is a working phone.
I strongly urge SONY to advertise its short comings as well, like heating, no battery backup, finger prints on touch screen and sluggish performance.

I keep getting a box asking me to upgrade the system. The box has a click for more info, but when I click it will not open. The overall box stays on the screen only a few seconds. I cannot be sure that this is not a scam.

There are no details about which version the update applies to.
I cannot be sure that this is not a scam so I have not uploaded it. The fact that the box stays on the screen for only a few seconds, before the regular Firefox screen opens, suggests that the box wants the user to make a quick, uniformed, decision, and to press "Next" rather than find out about the changes.

Did you ever install a Firefox 4 beta (or RC) version in the past?
It is possible that you are still on the beta update channel if you ever installed a Firefox 4 beta version or a release candidate. 
You can check that by looking at the pref app.update.channel on the about:config page. 
If the value of that pref is beta then it is better to download and install the latest Firefox 4.0.x release.

Hi Alinc,
I find that this happens with folders that either have a lot of stuff in them, when there is a lot of large files on my desktop, or when my computer has it's RAM bogged down. I'm guessing it's just a benign performance issue, and so far it hasn't cause me any serous problems except for one folder that constantly take a while to load but I'm not surprised because that folder has 8000+ files and is over 25GB in size LOL.
If this is still an issue for you, or you folders disappear for so long that it becomes an inconvenience, I would recommend trying the following things:
1) Save your work and close any open programs, but don't close your Finder folders though. Click the Apple Logo  in the upper left hand corner of the screen, then choose Force Quit. In the windows that comes up select Finder and choose Relaunch. This should force all of your open Finder folders to get refreshed. Please note this is a very brute force operation so it might be the most elegant solution.
2) A better but less potent thing to try is cleaning up you finder folders. If like me you have hundreds of files in one folder, or there is more than a gigabyte of data in the first level of the folder, then it might be a good idea to clean it up by moving some of those files into subfolders.
3) This is my favorite fix to try, and I recommend it to almost everyone because it's super easy and has a reasonable chance of improving your computer's performance at least a little bit.
3.a) Go to Disk Utility, and click on your hard drive.
3.b) Go to First Aid, and click each of the following one at a time: Verify Disk, Repair Disk, Verify Disk Permissions, and finally Repair Disk Permissions. Each of those actions should take several minutes (3 to 30) to complete on a fast hard drive, so make sure you don't need your computer for any serious work during this time.
3.c) Once those operations are complete click on your Macintosh HD partition (right below the hard drive you clicked before) and repeat step 3.b.
3.d) If you have any other connected hard drives or partitions you can do this for them as well. BUT, I don't recommend doing this on any Windows formatted drives, like FAT or NTFS, or your Bootcamp partition — although the First Aid buttons on the Bootcamp will probably be disabled anyway.

What's wrong with my mac if images burn into the screen after being there for only a few minutes?
I can have an icon, like a folder or something, on my desktop for only a few minutes and then when I move it an image of it will be burned into the screen for another few minutes. Same thing happens with having a webpage open for a few minutes or word document. What part of my computer is malfunctioning and is Apple responsible for repairing it?

Does it happen on all desktops applications as well as Modern UI Apps? Since this issue only happened recently, I suspect a newly-installed third party program causes this issue, please check these programs if possible.
We can also boot into clean boot mode, test the issue.

Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
The solution has been to:
1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.

If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

My I tunes jumps for the first few seconds of the track.

ITunes is jumping for the first few seconds of the track. It doesn't happen to all tracks but most of them. Anyone got any ideas.

Skipping around track change can be associated with certain virus checkers especially NOD32. Try briefly disabling virus checking. If it cures the problem, exclude iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library for checking.

Otherwise there are general performance issues, is your computer short of memory? Are you playing music over a wireless network/ external disk?
ALso you can get funny effects from Cross Fade. Try turning it off in Preferences>>Playback if you are using it.

My Itunes previews have been playing fully now for the past few days. After trying every suggestion possible to fix the problem of 5-10 second previews, I took the advice on one feed to use OpenDNS for your network internet connection. There are internet sites that will instruct you how to do it. Just Google "opendns for (your operating system)". I have Windows XP and followed a video instruction at www.top-windows-tutorals.com/using-opendns.html. Afterward, close your browser and then flush the DNS Resolver cache; Start/Run, type CMD in the open field, click OK, in resulting window type ipconfig/flushdns, press return on keyboard. No guarantees, but my browser is faster and my Itunes previews are playing fully so far. But I still shudder every time I hit the preview button.
