    -------please halp me

    what u say is correct becouse if i use another db-oracle
    and for use it i change the host, the port and sid, it works.
    DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@ULISSE:1651:APIS",
    "vetture", "vetture");
    and in this case the database is on another machine.
    if i try with :
    DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@pcserver:1521:PIRELLI",
    "vetture", "vetture");
    doesn't work, but i can read from the database with another product TOAD, so this meand the DB service is running, I can't undestand.
    In any case thanks becouse now i know that the problem is not about classpath or sqlstatement, but is only about configuration and service.

    public static int getInt() throws IOException
    System.out.println("Input your data:");
    String st = getString();
    return Integer.parseInt(st);//this is 208 row
    }

    It may be that the code in getString() returns a
    String that ends with a newline. If that is the
    problem, you can use
    return (Integer.parseInt(st)).trim();1. getString will never return a String ending in newline. BufferedReader.readLine strips off the newline.
    2. Even if you had a newline, String.trim doesn't trim newlines.
    3. You would need to trim the String, not the int:
    return (Integer.parseInt(st.trim()));As JimDinosaur said, you are passing bad data (the value of "st").
    In getInt, add this before trying to parse "st":
    System.out.println("###"+st+"###");What does it print?

    how to pass my 10k record string

    insert into table
    select * from table(fn_split('2,4,2,5,7'));Do you understand what a string literal is? You cannot provide a varchar2 string that exceeds 4000 bytes from within SQL. Fact. It just cannot be done.
    If you are passing the string from a user interface using a datatype that supports more than 4000 bytes, and you pass it directly to PL/SQL code by calling the function or procedure directly (not using SQL) then you can use up to 32767 bytes for your VARCHAR2.
    The code you've posted (which happens to be some of my own code posted years ago on these forums) takes a VARCHAR2 as an input. You would have to change that to accept a CLOB datatype and work on the CLOB instead. However, you still wouldn't be able to pass in a string literal of more than 4000 bytes from SQL for it.
    Looking at your other thread: Seperate the string value
    ... it looks like the 'user' is trying to pass in a table definition. What is it your application is trying to do? Surely you are not trying to create a table at run time?
    So explain, what is the business issue you are trying to solve? We may be able to provide a better way of doing it.

  • Tion in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adap

    I know this has been posted repeatedly. However, I have tried all the generic solutions Mine is a little different.
    1. I can connect with SQLPLUS to the database. I am on windows XP connecting to Oracle 10g on a Solaris box. So the listener is running.
    2. Here is my tnsnames.ora entry which works with SQLPLUS:
    I can tnsping this address
    SID_NAME =

        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = IP_NUMBER)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = SID_NAME)
      )I am trying to run the following sample code:
    * This sample shows how to list all the names from the EMP table
    * It uses the JDBC THIN driver.  See the same program in the
    * oci8 samples directory to see how to use the other drivers.
    package basic;

        // You can use either the fully specified SQL*net syntax or a short cut

        String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP_NAME:1521:SID_NAME";

    You cannot use string literal of more than 4000 characters in an Oracle SQL statement. I'm not going to count that string you so rudely posted but I presume it is longer than that figure. You'll need to use a variable instead.

  • Using clobs and ORA-01704: string literal too long

    Hi,
    I am attempting to add oracle support to an existing J2ee application. The issue I am facing is the use of CLOB datatypes and the 4k string literal limitation that Oracle has.
    I have dowloaded the 10.2.0.3 thin driver and am connected to a 9i release 2 database. When I execute a statement such as the following (say the table has one varchar2 field and two clob fields
    Insert into my_table VALUES ('hi','something','pretend this string is 5000 characters')
    I still receive the error
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01704: string literal too long
    I have read that the version 10 drivers were supposed to address this limitation. Is there something I am missing or must I change my home grown database layer to use bind variables or clob manipulation in a separate update/insert statement.? I am trying to avoid this situation since the database layer works fine for the situation of MSSQL and text fields which have no such limitation.
    Any advice you have here is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • ORA-01704: string literal too long for CLOB colum

    Hi,
    I'm trying to execute sql script containing a lot of insert into statements.
    Insert into table (clob_column) values ("value of 5500 characters");
    I get the below error message. Please let me know how do resolve this issue without PL/SQL ?
    ORA-01704: string literal too long

    Hi,
    LOB columns store locators that reference the location of the actual LOB value. Depending on the column properties you specify when you create the table, and depending the size of the LOB, actual LOB values are stored either in the table row (inline) or outside of the table row (out-of-line).
    LOB values are stored out-of-line when any of the following situations apply:
    •If you explicitly specify DISABLE STORAGE IN ROW for the LOB storage clause when you create the table.
    •If the size of the LOB is greater than approximately 4000 bytes (4000 minus system control information), regardless of the LOB storage properties for the column.
    •If you update a LOB that is stored out-of-line and the resulting LOB is less than approximately 4000 bytes, it is still stored out-of-line.
    LOB values are stored inline when any of the following conditions apply:
    •When the size of the LOB stored in the given row is small, approximately 4000 bytes or less, and you either explicitly specify ENABLE STORAGE IN ROW or the LOB storage clause when you create the table, or when you do not specify this parameter (which is the default).
    •When the LOB value is NULL (regardless of the LOB storage properties for the column).

    Found a thread related to this but there it was explained that the error was occuring when trying to notify regarding output through email. In our case, issue is occuring just during scheduling itslef.
    Also I haved checked the following schedular tables in my database.
    SQL> select table_name from all_tables where table_name like 'S_NQ%'
    +2 /+
    TABLE_NAME
    S_NQ_ERR_MSG
    S_NQ_INSTANCE
    S_NQ_JOB_PARAM
    S_NQ_JOB
    SQL> select SEQ_NAME.CURRVAL FROM DUAL;
    select SEQ_NAME.CURRVAL FROM DUAL
    *+
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-02289: sequence does not exist
    Please help me out in solving this as I have tried almost all possible solutions.
    Thanks,
    Sri Harsha.

    Hello,
    In the delivery email configuration server page (under BI Publisher Admin Tab), the username / password to enter is the one defined on the email server itself. It is the user that will be user to send the emails when scedhuling a report.
    It may not be Administrator/ Administrator (not a user defined with OBI admin tool) but the username/password defined on the email server itself.
    Moreover, to properly configure the BI Publisher Scheduler, it is a prerequistes to create bipsched user on Oracle DB and install the schema tables in Oracle DB (by clicking on Install Schema button after defining database connection under Admin / Scheduler Configuration tab)
    From the error your are getting 'SEQ_NAME unknown..., it appears that the tables are not created'.
    Hope this helps and good luck
    Matthieu

    You are running the Examples application shipped with WLS, which I guest

    correct DB to connect with is Cloudscape yet to Oracle, unless you make

    I am using java version "1.4.2_09" for the JDBC Connection. Is it the version problem or can be a problem specific to the code?

    hello debdatta
    The JVM is unable to find the class. Just check ur driver class whether its included in the class path.
    and its not getting the location of the file. The path where ur program is searching the class isnt there. so its the problem with ur path not the program.

    At first I thought maybe this is a configuration specific problem -- but I was able to replicate this on two separate machine with clean Win2K and Oracle9i installs.
    It seems like it is not finding a particular class, which leads me to believe that some particular jar is probably missing -- can anyone help me figure out which one? Or is there something else that may be going wrong?
    TIA

    You need to make sure you're using the Oracle9i JDBC driver, or using the Oracle 8.1.7.2 JDBC driver as I mentioned above.
    If you are using JDeveloper9i release 9.0.2 or 9.0.3, the driver you need is in <jdevhome>\jdbc\lib
    Otherwise, you can also download the drivers from OTN.
