So how to resolve this one, can anyone ?
Bye
I could be proven wrong, but I think you can use hide() and show() for your windows. You could make a windowListener that when a user tries to close the window you would have it hide that window instead, and show the underlying window:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/events/windowlistener.html
You might also want to make the new window that pops up a modal dialog window.
http://java.sun.com/products/jlf/ed2/book/HIG.Dialogs3.html
Hope that helps.

Does anybody know what this means?

Problem refreshing the parent page when closing a modal window.
I have page that opens a modal window from a report link column. In the modal window I want to be able to make my changes and press an Apply button so that the modal window is closed and the parent page is refreshed to show the modified details in the report. In Firefox all works well but in IE I get the error message ‘Window.opener.location is null or not an object’ .
When I comment out window.opener.location.href=window.opener.location.href; the modal window closes without error but I want to refresh the parent page with changes made in the modal window.
I’m afraid my java script is very limited (the code is based on other peoples examples.)
Parent Page I call this function from a report link column to display a modal window. Sets the hidden SAVE_STATUS field in destination page to ‘N’
function modalWin(pshow)
var url;
url='f?p=&APP_ID.:'+pshow+':&SESSION.::::SAVE_STATUS:N';
if (window.showModalDialog) {
window.showModalDialog(url,"name","dialogWidth:650px;dialogHeight:700px"); }
else {
window.open(url,"name","height=700,width=650,toolbar=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no ,modal=yes");
Destination page (modal window)
HTML Header.
The function closeWindow should refresh the parent page and close the modal window.
<base target=_self>
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
htmldb_delete_message='"DELETE_CONFIRM_MSG"';
function closeWindow() {
if ( document.getElementById("SAVE_STATUS").value == 'Y' )
window.opener.location.href=window.opener.location.href;
window.close();
//-->
</script>
Html Body attribute.
onLoad="closeWindow();"
P_UPDATE_DATE process called from the Apply changes button. Sets the SAVE_STATUS flag to ‘Y’ for the onload in the html body.
UPDATE event
SET event_date = :P5001_EVENT_DATE
WHERE contract_reference = :P330_EVD_CONTRACT
AND event_number = :P330_EVD_EVENT_NUMBER;
:SAVE_STATUS := 'Y';
Thanks in advance, I will have a look when back in the office on Monday.
Cheers PeteHi Chris,
Thanks for your help. I think I've sorted it using your first suggestion doing a refresh in the parent page, I just didn't know how at the time.
What I've got in the parent window after the call to the modal window is the reload window.location.reload(); and in the modal window I close it using window.close(); The down side being the refresh happens if I use my 'Apply changes' or 'Cancel' button but I can live with that for now.
It seems to work in IE and firefox but as I say most of what I'm doing is cobbling together using other peoples code without really understanding exactly what it does. Anyway thanks for your help, sound like I should look into JQUERY when I have time.
Thanks Pete
Parent window call to modal
function modalWin(pshow)
var url;
url='f?p=&APP_ID.:'+pshow+':&SESSION.::::SAVE_STATUS:N';
if (window.showModalDialog) { window.showModalDialog(url,"name","dialogWidth:650px;dialogHeight:700px"); }
else {
window.open(url,"name","height=700,width=650,toolbar=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no ,modal=yes");
window.location.reload();
Modal Window Close.

Bug? InDesign CC/CC2014 loses focus when closing ScriptUI dialog window
When closing a "dialog" type window, created using ScriptUI from Extendscript, InDesign will lose focus as "active application" in Windows (7/8) and instead switch to another application in Windows altogether. This behavior does not occur on previous versions of InDesign (CS6 and earlier). I can easily reproduce the problem at my company on various machines (both on Windows 7 and Windows 8). The Mac OS version of InDesign does not seem to have this problem. Also, the problem does not seem to occur when using "palette" or "window" type ScriptUI windows.
That's in itself an interesting observation, but I have the focus problem
also with scripts that don't use ScriptUI at all.

how to close the applet window using a button on the applet
ravindra.alld wrote:

I am setting the seperate window = TRUE in my formsweb.cfg. This opens up the form as a seperate applet. This is what I want. But how do I close the window which loaded this applet? I want only the applet to be active, remaining all windows closed.
I followed the recommendation, but in my case it doesn't work.
The code
HTMLbodyAttrs=onLoad='javascript:self.moveTo(2000,2000)'
or
HTMLbodyAttrs=onLoad='javascript:self.moveTo(1601,1201)'
doesn’t work properly. I have noticed that if the browser original size is not full screen, then when that javascript code runs, the browser just moves down to maximum possible bottom position, but it doesn’t disappear or get minimized – browser window size doesn’t change.
Who knows what the problem is?
Thanks,

You're using a rather old version of Safari. Also, its file location is outside of the normal one, i.e. HD>Applications.
Go to your Finder: Navigate to HD>Applications. Do you see Safari.app there? If so, single-click on it, then press the Command and I keys to open the file's info panel. What is the version number - latest is 4.0.4.

Itunes causes my computer to have a blue screen and shuts down when closing out Itunes window?
When I close out my Itunes window my computer goes black then to a blue screen with words about crashing then shuts down in Windows Vista!
Thanks, I did that yesterday and it worked. I tried to repair it but it said there was a fatal error and I don't even need that Mobile device support. anyway. So after I uninstalled it, it never happened the next two times I closed out Itunes after that.

I'm using VS2015CTP5 and the preview of the Windows tools.
My code was working fine yesterday on 10049.
Could it be a (Bing Speech) licensing type issue that triggers this?

Socket Exception when closing Server Socket Streams if Client closes first
Hi
I have 2 processes - a Server socket and a client socket. If I close the Client process first, and then try closing down the Streams on the Server process, I get a SocketException with message "Socket is closed" when I try and close the 2nd Stream. It does not matter on the order of the Stream being closed down, the exception is always thrown when I try and close the second stream. The code snippets are below:
SERVER =======
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.OutputStream;
import java.net.ServerSocket;
import java.net.Socket;
public class ServerSocketTest {
public static void main(String args[]) {
try {
ServerSocket ss = new ServerSocket(9999);
Socket s = ss.accept();
// Get refs to streams...
InputStream is = s.getInputStream();
OutputStream os = s.getOutputStream();
// sleep to let client shutdown first...
try {
Thread.sleep(10000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.err.println(e);
System.err.println("B4 inClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
System.err.println("B4 inClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
System.err.println("B4 inClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
System.err.println("B4 inClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
System.err.println("B4 inClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
s.getInputStream().close();
System.err.println("After inClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
System.err.println("After inClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
System.err.println("After inClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
System.err.println("After inClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
System.err.println("After inClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
s.getOutputStream().close(); // will break here with SocketException!
System.err.println("After outClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
System.err.println("After outClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
System.err.println("After outClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
System.err.println("After outClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
System.err.println("After outClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
s.close();
} catch (Exception e) {
System.err.println(e);
CLIENT ======
import java.net.Socket;
public class ClientSocket {
public static void main(String args[]) {
try {
Socket s = new Socket("localhost", 9999);
try {
// sleep to leave connection up for a while...
Thread.sleep(2000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.err.println(e);
s.close();
} catch (Exception e) {
System.err.println(e);
The debug shows that isClosed() is set to 'true' after the first call to s.getInputStream().close(). The Sun API Socket class getOutputStream() has a call to isClosed() at the start of the method - it then throws the SocketException that I get. Why does the SocketImpl do this before I get a chance to call a.getOutputStream().close()?
One final thing, the calls to s.isInputShutdown() and s.isOuputShutdown always seem to return false even if the Streams have had their .close() method called.
Any ideas/help here greatly appreciated.
Thanks
GazOk, I know what's going on now - I needed something to do on Friday afternoon anyhow!
Basically if you call either getOutputStream.close() or getInputStream().close(), the underlying Sun implementation will close the Socket.
Here's what's happening under the covers in the Sun code:
s.getInputStream() is called on the Socket class.
The Socket class holds a reference to the SocketImpl class.
The SocketImpl class is abstract and forces sublclasses to extend it' s getInputStream() method.
The PlainSocketImpl extends SocketImpl.
PlainSocketImpl has a getInputStream() method that returns a SocketInputStream. When the stream is created for the first time, the PlainSocketImpl object is passed into the Constructor.
The SocketInputStream class has a close() method on it. The snippet of code below shows how the socket is closed:
<pre>
* Closes the stream.
private boolean closing = false;
public void close() throws IOException {
// Prevent recursion. See BugId 4484411
if (closing)
return;
closing = true;
if (socket != null) {
if (!socket.isClosed())
socket.close();
} else
impl.close();
closing = false;
</pre>
So, it seems that out PlainSocketImpl is getting closed for us, hence the SocketException being thrown in Socket.getOutputStream() when I call it after Socket.getInputStream()/
I've not had a look at the reason why the calls to s.isInputShutdown() and s.isOuputShutdown always seem to return false even if the Streams have had their .close() method called though - any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

Portal not closing session when closing the browser window
Hi,
We have a problem in portal where the user logs onto Portal with their userid/password and has another window opened eg. www.google.com.
The user then closes their browser(x) on IE, but still has the other session opened. (www.google.com)
Later the user tries to logon to Portal, but is not prompted with their userid/password, and is taken directly into Portals.
This is a problem, we want the users to always be prompted with their userid/password.
Thanks
SushanthIf the second browser session is a child of the first (e.g. started via Ctrl-N) the session context is inherited, including session cookies (here: MYSAPSSO2), which are relevant for user authentication against the portal.
That's how IE works.
If the second browser is a new instance and the session cookie is set in this browser session as well, it's a browser bug. Try to update OS and/or IE. -
VS Express 2012 occasionally hangs on win 7 64bit when closing designer windows
I'm experiencing something I've never experience before. I have a new laptop and installed VS Express 2012. Everything runs great except occasionally, when I'm closing tabs - VS will just hang. It seems to only happen with WPF form design view, does not
seem to happen when closing code only windows. Everything else runs exceptionally fast. Please help, thanks.
Things to note:
cpu usage does not increase (stays at 0).
The hang time can be anywhere from 10 second to over 30 seconds (at that point i kill the process).
memory usage does not increase.
I have 3 other installations on separate computers and none of the others experience this problem with the same code. (this is the fastest computer of all of them).
The display is 4k resolution, and is the only one with that size screen.
I am not running any addons.
Basic VS installation nothing special.
I have done the following to try to fix it:
Installed all the latest plugins and patches for VS.
Installed all the latest patches for Windows 7.
Reinstalled VS on a completely seperate drive (SSD).
Erased the solution *.suo file and let it rebuild.
Disabled AntiVirus - other computers have the same AV also.
Edit for clarity:
What I mean by closing tabs - When I have my WPF project open, I will open source files inside the project and the sources file is in a tabbed window. I close the source file inside the project, either by middle mouse button or by clicking the 'x'. At no
other time have I noticed this hang and it only seems to happen when the source file includes a form design view (*.xaml) not plain text (*.cs).Hi DMANN636,
>>when I'm closing tabs - VS will just hang. It seems to only happen with WPF form design view,does not seem to happen when closing code only windows.
Based on your issue, you mean that when you create a simple WPF project and then you get also the VS hang issue for this WPF form design view, am I right?
If yes, I suggest you could try the following command-line options with WDExpress.exe
to check the result:
/ResetSettings: Restores the IDE's default settings, optionally resets to the specified CS Settings file.
/SafeMode: Launches the IDE in safe mode to check if you install some Add-ins impact the WPF designer
If the above suggestion still could not help you, please try to delete your
ItemTemplatesCache,
ProjectTemplatesCache folder and then run the WDExpress /InstallVSTemplates switch
and WDExpress/Setup switch. Please refer to the following steps:
Step1: Please open Windows Explorer, and navigate to <Visual Studio Installation Path>\Common7\IDE (by default is <C:\Program Files(x86) \Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE>)
Step2: Delete the ItemTemplatesCache, ProjectTemplatesCache folder;
Step3: Open Visual Studio Command Prompt (2012 x64 Cross Tools Command Prompt under Start menu -> All Programs -> Microsoft Visual
Studio 2012 -> Visual Studio Tools (run it with Administrator privilege: right-click the program -> Run as administrator);
Step4: Run the WDExpress
/InstallVSTemplates switch and the WDExpress
/Setup switch.
In addition, as you said that :
>>I have 3 other installations on separate computers and none of the others experience this problem with the same code.
If you load the same WPF project on other machine, it work fine. I doubt that the issue may be related to the your machine environment. So if possible, I suggest you could try to repair or re-install the your OS would be better.
