Excessive CPU and automatic opening windows.

The machine is a dell laptop with Windows 8 installed. My installation of Acrobat Pro 11 has started doing something that is driving me batty. Upon starting the pc Acrobat will open four (4) windows in the background and each of the windows consumes 24% of the CPU resources. How do I prevent this behavior. It makes it impossible to use the machine until task manager is used to terminate the process.

Have you tried a repair of Acrobat? Did you do the updates? Both of these may help, particularly if you are running a 64-bit system.

How to save a Tiff to Jpeg and automatically open the Jpeg copy?

I got this workflow,
1) From LR export to PS
2) Do all essential editings.
3) Save. File become 'xyz.tiff' now. (I want to keep this as master copy)
4) Crop to 4r, Save a Jpeg copy as 'xyz 4r.jpg'
5) PS save it as a copy, but do not automatically open the Jpeg copy. The tiff remains opened. I have to manullay Open, browse to it, and open the Jpeg. The 'Open Recent' list also do not list 'xyz 4r.jpg'.
6) Do 4r sharpening for the 'xyz 4r.jpg', save it.
Basically the files I want to keep and worked on is like this: NEF -> xyz.tiff -> xyz 4r.jpg -> xyz sml.jpg(maybe)
Now, it there a way in step (5) to have PS save the Jpeg copy, and automatically open it? I dont care if the Tiff copy remains opened or not, I am done with it.

Like Christoph, I ask myself why on Earth would anyone want to do that?
To keep working on an already lossy file which will further deteriorate evey single time you save and re-save it and close it?
That's just nuts!
The abominable JPEG format is a necessary evil, but I use it only as the final output file when someone demands a JPEG for whatever reason.
By all means only work on losless formats like PSD, PSB or TIFF.
Working on a JPEG in order to make it smaller defies all logic.

Also, just to update, my iMac cursor seems to glitch a little bit less now. It seems that at least ONE of my problems may have been caused by sitting my iPhone upon my WACOM tablet. The tablet must receive some sort of disruption from having my phone on it - and removing it seems to remedy a fraction of my mouse-jumping problems - if only for a meanwhile.
The mouse cursor still does jump around on its own occasionally, and the other mouse problems do persist - so this must not be the only culprit for my array of problems.

Once you get to "about.config" enter "pixels" in the search box at the top of the list. That will bring up the line you want to change, (layout.css.devPixelsPerPx.) Change the value from 1.0 to whatever suits you.

Is there anyway I can keep design view, source code AND css open on screen all at the same time?
Constantly clicking between source and css is really becoming irritating, would be so much easier if they were both on screen at the same time.

You have two choices.
1 You can go to preferences>general and the very first item (in CS6) is "open document in tabs" if you deselct that then you can view your page in split view and also open up the CSS file and have it visible as well.
2 If you use tabs you can view the page in split view and open the CSS file and then detach the css from the tab and it will be an idependent item. You detach it by highlighting the tab and then dragging it down.
It helps to have a large screen, and better still to have more than one screen, you can put the css on the other screen.

Connecting to iDisk without automatically opening window

I've decided I use my iDisk public folder often enough that I want to have it always available on my desktop. It is password protected, and I can connect to it easily enough with Go->iDisk->Other User's Public Folder and store the login info in my keychain to autoconnect. I can then put the server icon in my login items folder, and presto, it autoconnects on login. My question is:
Is it possible for it to connect, so that it is immediately available and logged in, but NOT open its window automatically after connection? I tried ticking off the "Hide" button in Login Items, but that doesn't work (I didn't think it would, but it was worth a shot
While I'm here, is there anyway to change the name of the server icon as it displays on my Desktop? Right now it is called <username>-Public, and I just want it to be called Public. Once--and only once-- it actually mounted as "Public", I'm not sure why. I've discovered it is possible to plaster a custom icon on the server icon, so I was hopeful I could somehow assign a custom name as well.

I did find a thread that stated that a window always opens when a volume is mounted, and the workaround was to make an Applescript to close the window. Not the most elegant, but I suppose it will work.
As for creating an alias, yes, that will work, but once the volume is mounted, another icon will appear (the "real" item) with whatever name it assigns itself (which is what I'm trying to change). A (again not too elegant) workaround here would be to disable all connected servers showing up on the Desktop, which will just leave the alias displayed.
Guess I'll use these for now unless anyone else has suggestions!

Force Quit .
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select Safari, if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.
Application will quit.
If this does not help, press the power button for 7 or more seconds.
Computer will shut down.
Restart.
Hold the shift key down and launch Safari.

My mouse/trackpad are completely out of control. The cursor/arrow is flying all over the screen and closing/opening windows. What is the solution to this? Downloading windows for Mac?

So far I'm dissapointed with Mac O/S .....so many areas lack common sense, require unnessary extra clicks and is not as customizable as Windows. It's like Apple thinks you are a child and not entitled to choose for yourself so that they can control your info for you.
The mouse/trackpad problem is a major issue that Apple should be proactive in offering a solution for. If anyone has a solution to this I'd be greateful to hear it.

Is this the first time you're using a Mac?
If so the learning curve is somewhat steep - but, if you put in the time and use this knowledge base whenever you run into issues you'll be up to speed soon enough.
With regards to the trackpad/mouse, you can adjust the sensitivity by:
1. Click the Apple Logo on the top left hard corner of your screen
2. Click System Preferences
3. Click Trackpad
Adjust the tracking speed to your specifications.
Also familiarise yourself with the gestures (activate the ones you can remember)
To go back to the menue by clicking Show All
4. Click Mouse
Adjust your mouse settings to your specification.
And why use mac?
It just works...

I can load firefox into my task bar but it will not load to full screen. I move cursor over and see open window but no show on full screen. love firefox so what do I do?

was using prior to problem. just downsized screen from facebook. went back, clicked on icon in bar and that was it. I can see that it looks like it is loading to right side of screen. just slight glimpse of movement but nothing.

You can reinstall Firefox by overwrite it.(Remember download version lasted). Don't insintall your old version Firefox.And all bookmark,add-on will not be deleted.

How Do I stop Pages automatically opening a blank document

When I switch back to Pages after working in another application, Pages automatically opens a new blank page or the Template Chooser..... depending on what I have selected in Pages/Preference.
This is very annoying when all I usually want to do is open a document I had been recently working on.
Any suggestions ... is the development team looking at a fix for this annoying feature?

When switching to Pages via the dock, if there is no document open in Pages, the program assumes you want to start working on a new one and automatically opens a new document. Yes, annoying, and I've been using feedback with each new version asking for that behavior to be changed.
However, there are two solutions: 1) rather than switch to Pages and then use the open command, you could simply navigate to the document you want to open using the Finding and double click on its icon. You might use the Finder window sidebar or the dock to keep some of your frequently accessed document folders. 2) use command+tab to access OS X's built in application switcher instead of the dock to switch to Pages. Switching this way won't open a new document.

Use the ''Reset'' context menu item to re-enable ''Undo Closed Tabs'' with the default value if you want to re-use that feature.
You can clear "Recently Closed Windows" if you restore a window and open a blank tab (Ctrl T) and close all other tabs with a middle click.
If you close the window with only that empty tab then that window is removed from the list.
To avoid that make sure that you close all tabs before closing a window.
Set the pref '''browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab''' to ''false'' on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser.
