Excessive Data Use on Iphone 5 with ATT

This is a warning to everyone thinking about AT&T as a carrier.  Not sure if this is a IOS6 or greater issue or an Iphone 5 issue, but myself, wife and 2 kids have all seen our data usage multiply by 5 (5x) the very next month after getting an Iphone 5.  This also happens with the Iphone 5s.
I really don't care who's problem it is, ATT or Apple, but something is very wrong and they refuse to acknoledge it.
I have heard that Apple fixed the issue with Verizon.  Not really sure.
I am running out of options as the data overages are going to bankrupt me.
I think switching to the Android might be a better option.
At least that have support and can track what is happening.

It's a data leakage problem, that has been a problem for a very long time.
Doing a full restore seemed to help, and I have a hunch it's related to the iCloud back-up synch.

  • Excessive Data Use on iPhone 5

I seem to be having excessive data use on my iPhone 5. Ill use the twitter app for anything between 3-5 mins on my break in work and incur anything from 5+mb. This is with just scrolling through some tweets and not even looking at vids or pictures.
On my iPhone 4 i would be using up to 300mb a month. Since ive had my iPhone ive been in excess of 500mb. Is anyone else having this problem?
Also is there anyway to sort this? Its easy to control ive had to turn off pretty much everything from iCloud to Location Services.

  • Using iphone 5 with att prepaid go phone plan will it work?

will i be able to use the iphone 5 with the att go phone prepaid plan?

And the OP was specifically asking about an iPhone 5.
What's unclear is if AT&T is including their HSPA+ network as "4G" It is technically 4G according to th ITU and they market it that way.
They do specify that pre-paid data is for feature phones only. Not smartphones of any type. From the same document:
    Data Services for Smartphones
To use data services, smartphone users must be on a monthly rate plan and purchase a data feature package. Data Pay Per Use is not available with smartphones on any GoPhone rate plan.
It may be possible, but if they catch you, and they eventually will, they will shut charge you for it and/or shut down the account.

  • Excessive data use is there a problem with OS4?

I posted this problem on the network section with no response, so I thought I would try here (inspite of the previous posters comments!Perhaps someone can help me?
Has anyone had problems with excessive data use since switching to the new iphone and 0s4? My data use (i'm with o2) has increased over 4 times in the first month! In the 18 months with the 3g i used an average of about 150mb a month, the the most ever being 176mb. In the first two weeks of using the new phone I had racked up 450mb! I have tried the following - no push emailing, switching off notifications, closing down all the apps on the multi-task!etc. I have even taken to switching off 3G and data. O2 have given me a new sim card when I talked to them about the problem. Whilst the problem has been reduced with these measure it hasn't gone altogether and i am not getting the use or enjoyment out of my phone as I did with the 3g(i'm to worried to use many apps incase the data use goes throught the roof again) . Since I bought the phone I have added a few new apps and have played with the phone a little more but there is no possible explanition for the the massive increase in data use (it tended to happen over night - but i'm told thats when the data use information is sometimes collected). My 02 billing and data monitoring on the phone seem to be inline so I think it must be a problem with os4 or the phone.I know i'm not alone with this problem and as others start to monitor the use of data with the new limited data use coming on stream I think this could become as big as the reception issue for apple. Help anyone?

SMS is exchanged over the same network as calls - no data involved.
    MMS requires data.
iMessage requires the same as email - internet access via an available wi-fi network or via your carrier's cellular data network.
You can disable SMS/MMS altogther with your account by requesting this with AT&T. You can turn iMessage off unless your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You need to use the Apple IDs that you created for them for iCloud as well as iTunes. You will also find that you need to use them for messages and face time.

  • If I have an IPhone 4 with ATT, can I change carriers?

If I have an IPhone 4 with ATT, can I change carriers?

In addition to what stedman said, you will only
be able to use it with providers that us GSM
for their service and cannot be used on CDMA
networks, i.e. an AT&T phone cannot be used
    on Verizon or Sprint.

  • Have I an Ipod HiFi A1121 and I would like to know if it is possible to use my iphone 4 with it.

I have an Ipod HiFi A1121 and I would like to know if it is possible to use my iphone 4 with it. Thanks.

    Hello,
Yes, you can use your iPhone 4 with it, but I don't recommend using it with the dock connector as it wasn't designed for the iPhone 4 and you may have unexpected results.
I recommend using it with the auxilliary jack on the back of the unit.  That's how I use mine and it works great to this very day.  The iPod-Hifi is still an amazing and great sounding unit and they're incredibly rare to find now of days.  I saw one on sale at Amazon.com for $999 haha!

  • Can i use the iphone 5s with Straight Talk?

Can i use the iphone 5s with Straight Talk (Walmart's plan)?  Straight Talk uses GSM technology....
    Thanks!

The StraightTalk iPhones are CDMA phones. Not GSM. StraightTalk does not support the use of unlocked iPhones on their pre-paid GSM service.

  • Is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

The 5s claims it has more LTE bands than ever. Which is does if you read the tech specs on it. If I was going to go there, I would do some research. If you plan on sliding in a sim card from a german carrier, what German carrier and what LTE bands do they use? Thats what I would do.
There is a significant amount of LTE bands added on the Iphone 5s compared to the 5 yes. Will it work? It might depending on what carrier you plan to use like I said. I can't answer that sorry.

im using an iphone 4s with the latest firmware which is 6.1.3 but my wifi button keeps going grey how can i fix it? i rested network connections and it worked for a while and went grey again, what can i do?

Have you worked through the Troubleshooting iOS and WiFi knowledge base article?  If not, see if there is info in there that might help.
Is the WiFi greyed out on all WiFi networks or just the one?  If it does this on all then there may be a hardwaer problem that needs attention from the techs at an Apple store genius bar.
Before that, however, try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.  That clears a lot of iOS hang ups that occur.

I'm trying to use an iphone 3 with t-mobile plan, itune say the phone is unlocked however i can't get a signal with the new sims card

How is iTunes telling you it is unlocked? Did you go through an unlock procedure with your cell company and then Restore it in iTunes?
