Excessive heat, and slowdowns

Lately, whenever my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro is plugged in for at least 15 minutes, the system gets pretty hot. sometimes, when I use Chrome, the system gets hot anyways. Also, this computer was taking excessively long to load the contents of my 'applications' folder! what should I do... I'm going to reinstall snow leopard, but if that doesn't fix my problem, then what?

Hi. 70% would definitely be high enough to push the temps up and slow things down. Which App/activity was running at 70%? does quitting it cause the temps to decrease and the computer to speed up?

  • Excessive Heat from 23" Displays

Has anyone heard of excessive heat coming from the 23" display when you have 2 attached to a new G5? The heat comes directly from the screens. This is not for me but a friend has this problem and has asked if I knew of anyone that could help.

By "comes directly from the screens" does your friend mean that he/she can feel heat being emitted right from the front surface of the screen? Is that the objection? I can tell you that an LCD backlight is not completely free of near infra-red emissions. You will feel heat being thrown directly at you from the screen. But it is generally a pretty small amount until you get into large size, LCD TVs that have several, large backlight tubes. If you put your hand or face up close to one of those screens, you will feel a significant amout of radiated heat, like a space heater.
The amout of infra-red heat will diminish in proportion to the backlight level. Tell your friend to try turning down the brightness, if possible. That will also cut the heat coming through the screen.

  • Excessive Heat

Experiencing excessive heat after 20+ minutes of use.

Do you see a screen that gives you an excessive heat warning and makes the device unusable until it cools down? If not, it's just normal heating that's caused by the processor working hard. Make sure you've updated to the latest iOS or else your iPad is working harder than it needs to

  • Bulging Battery / excessive heat when charging

    Hello,
I have a bit of a problem with my blackberry:
    1. Annoying unread messages that won't go away
    2. Excessive Heat when charging
    3. Bulging Battery
Do you guys thinks that this warrants for a warranty exchange? Or is it ok for me to keep using it?

With annoying unread messages, you have to deal it with your carrier if its SMS or email provider if its email.
With bulging battery and excessive heat when charging - please refrain from using your phone while charging OR you may look for the best Blackberry charger (Model: PSMC04A) because the output is 700mA unlike the charger that came with your phone, its only 200-450mA. This is not meant to use while you are charging but because its a pretty fast charger, it doesnt take much time to complete the 100%

  • HP DV-6822TX heating and randomly shutting down

    Hi,
Ive had this HP DV6822TX for over 3 years now and its been working happily. Ive had Windows 7 for over 6 months and its been all hunky dory. Recently, Ive noticed that the back of laptop heats quite a lot and sometimes it shuts down and doesn't want to re-start (immediately). If I let it cool down for about half an hour no problems. I was running speed fan it seems to be going at 60deg Celsius. I thought it might be the GPU so I changed the battery power profile to 'balanced' instead of the full blown usage. That didnt seem to help either, so I decreased the brightness.
I'm just wondering if the Laptop needs new parts (GPU) or just better drivers. Could even be the battery but it seems to be charging quite well. I thought I once heard that the default battery charging pack was re-called for this model...
    Thanks,

Many times a laptop overheating is directly related to the cooling of the processor. The main culprit is the fan. The fan sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the side. It will also suck in hair, dust, and other debris. That stuff often gets trapped by the heat sink and over time builds up in a layer which chokes off the cool air going to the processor making the fan work harder.
    Check this out:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01657439&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...
What I recommend is getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop. If after doing this you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heatsink. You can check your warranty here:
    http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/ewarranty/warrantyResults.do?admit=109447627+1286541891570+28353475
If it is out of warranty, consider searching for the maintenance manual for your specific model, in the manual there are schematics for taking apart the laptop. Cleaning the fan is much easier that removing a motherboard, so don't feel to intimidated by the idea. Also you can remove the heatsink and then remove the thermal grease and apply a new layer which also helps alleviate heat related issues.

My iphone 5, with iOS 7.0.2, is heating and consuming the battery very fast when 3G is on, even when I'm not using it. Any solution?

iOS 7 has many multiple tasks. You can save battery life to some extent by few steps. First go to location services and bettr 'Off' them which are not needed. (Ex. Notes.. Reminders.. Etc). Also you can off few apps in 'get notifications' centre. Also usage of 3g by any mobile consumes much battery life. Better to connect any Wi-fi

I've read in other forums that there are two issues that is causing this problem of chopping audio and freezing interfaces.  One has to do with USB 2.0 /USB 3.0 issues in OS.  The other seems to be an issue with the Fusion drive.
The fix for the fusion drive issue that has been shared online is to either:
Option #1.  Don't use the fusion drive and create an external boot drive clone (either SSD or standard HD) and use as your primary drive (completely surpassing the internal fusion drive).
Option #2.  Split the internal fusion drive.  From there you can use them as two separate logical drives.  Load your OS on one of the drives (SSD or HD).   http://www.macworld.com/article/2015664/how-to-split-up-a-fusion-drive.html
Before, you do any of the above, make sure that you backup your current system setup.
I just received my imac (2013) with 3TB fusion and I plan on trying option #1.  I bought a 3TB external USB drive which I plan to clone after I have the machine running.  Once I clone the internal drive, I will test how the machine runs from both the internal fusion and the external to prove if this addresses the audio clipping/stopping problem.  Hopefully, Apple will find a fix for this.
It is really a dissapointment that a brand new $2500+ machine and software was not tested to perform something that my 2008 MacBookPro and my home built Window XT machine (circa 2003) did without issue.  I wished that I would have checked the forums about these issues before I purchased the machine.
You can do some searches online and find even more detail discussions on this topic.

  • HT1338 Problem: My Mac Pro is heating and the fan produce a lot of noise, what shall I do? I got the new Montain Lion

    Dear best Users,
What shall I do? My Mac Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/OS X 10.8 13-inch 2009= Is heating and producing a lot of noise with the internal Fan.
    Best,
    Dario van der Lündin

If you can, open Activity Monitor and see what's using up all the %CPU.
If its kernel_task, shutdown immediately and do a PRAM reset, like this:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should and with the kernel_task process back to normal.
If that's not it, try quitting whatever the process is by selecting it in the Activity monitor window, then 'Quit' in the task bar. If the process refuses to quit, post back with the name of the process.

What do you mean by 'frozen' ? Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to work ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    macbook pro i7 2.2 2011
i have Heat and Voice of the fan is too high  if i play games on mac os x lion or bootcamp windows 7
Is this problem is not good for macbook pro ?

If you are askiing whether heat and fan noise affect the machine, the answer is no, as long as the internal temperature remains within the machine's safe operating range. Keeping it within that range is what the fans are doing and why they are making noise. If the temperature exceeds that safe range, the machine will shut itself down.
If you are asking whether the heat and noise affect the user, of course the answer is yes, the user will notice them.
