Excessive hsrp updates catalyst 6509e
Hey all, I am seeing excessive HSRP updates on one of our 6509's. The switch is running HSRP between another 6509e & currently also trunking several vlans over a 10Gbps circuit to another site which also has 2 similar 6509s. I can provide more indepth details upon request.
Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on what may be causing the updates & some typical troubleshooting methods.
The updates are only showing up on one 6509; here is a tibbit from the logs:

Updating catalyst control center to 11.12 with Radeon 6750m
I am trying to update the CC from version 11.8 to the latest: 11.12. When I download the update from AMD's website, I get the following error:
When I first installed the video drivers, using the ones provided with the boot camp software, I was getting really horrid performance, and fixed it by installing another piece of software (which I can't remember where I got it from or what it was called) which allowed me to turn on powerplay and that fixed the performance problem. The reason for wanting to update is so that I can keep up to date, and also for SWTOR, which loads with a black screen with the catalyst 11.8 driver, but not with the 11.4 (I believe... might be the 11.6).Hello,
Here is an article about downgrading a Windows 8 computer. I hope it helps.
Good luck!

Hi, my desktop is a p6653w running with AMD HD 4200.
I usually do light gaming with online games so I had to recently update my drivers. I checked using HP's service updater but it didn't show any drivers available. So I went to AMD and chose to manualyl detect drivers for updates and there was the AMD Catalyst 12.6 I think. So right now I've done installing the update but the catalyst center won't open. I was wondering what could be the problem and if its due to incompatibility? I read somewhere that most HP built in amd gpu's really only on stock HP drivers. I know it wouldn't boost performance that much but I'm sure updating would help my gaming a bit.Kritterbits, welcome to the forum.
I suggest trying an earlier version of the Catalyst Control Center. Sometimes the latest version may not be compatible with your computer. If this works, please let us know.

Computer: HP Pavilion dv6-6130eo
I have installed windows 7 64 bit
Graphics cards: Switchable Intel and Radeon HD 6770M
So far, I have been using the graphics driver provided by HP including Catalyst Control Center, and it has been working fine.
I recently bought a new game: Wolfenstein:New order. I fulfill minimum requirements.
When trying to run the game, I am informed, that my Catalyst Control Center must be 14.4 or newer: Fatal error, and game cannot run.
How can I update my Catalyst Control Center to 14.4 or newer? Both graphics cards (switchable) should be working.
Thanks a lot in advance - This issue is really getting on my nerves!Hi @Guggermand

I understand that your notebooks works fine except when you try to play your new Wolfenstein New Order game, at which time it informs you that your Catalyst Control Center is out of date and must be 14.4 or higher. You stated installed Windows 7 64 bit.
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran The HP Support Assistant to aid with updating drivers and resolving issues.
Here is a link to the latest recommended HP driver AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver sp55092.exe for you system.
If that does not update your current version of the Catalyst Control Center, you will need to check the AMD website.

Do Not install ATI catalyst 13.1 update
A recent update for Radeon HD 7800 (and possibly other models) caused almost all BLUE colors to display as BLACK on the screen in Photoshop CS6 (I'm running Win 7 64 and CS6 64) if your image is in an RGB Profile.
If you drag the image window around, the blue shows normally. If you take an eyedrop sample of the color, it is actually blue... but it still looks black in the image window. If you change the image profile to CMYK, the blue looks fine. Change it back to RGB and it's black again.
Adobe support people on chat, with a shared screen, messed with my system and settings, uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted all of my preferences and profiles... basically goofed around for over 4 hours and couldn't figure out any solutions.
After I got them off my computer and spent almost two hours getting all of my settings and profile set back up, I did a trace for changes on my system. I found that AMD/ATI had done an update, Catalyst 13.1, the day before, so I rolled back my video driver and... PRESTO. Problem solved.Thank you for your post. ATI has known about this problem for quite a while, so they shouldn't have been goofing around.

Confirming what Curt has said, I've been running Catalyst 13.2 beta 5 for quite a while and it's very stable - and solves the aforementioned problems.

Rebooting a SUP2T mit DFC modules and HSRP V2 hold time
Guys,
I got a general question.
For a client I setup two Catalyst 6509E with SUP2Ts and DFC modules.
For HA purposes I use HSRP in the vlan connected towards their Checkpoint Firewall (and some other vlans).
While rebooting the HSRP active core I noticed, that for some vlans the switchover in HSRP took much longer than the hold time of 10 seconds.
(roughly 40 s for one instance).
This I don't understand. The only thing that comes to my mind, is that the DFC modules in the machine that was reloaded, have continued to send HSRP V2 hellos for some time, until they have been reloaded.
Hopefully somebody can shed some light into this behaviour...
thanks
KnutJon,
thanks. Well STP came to my mind too. But it should be fine. The vlan is u-shaped and it is configured to use RSTP

- Port Channel 10 is the link between the two cores

But regardless, of how fast STP converges, HSRP should become active on the econdary router after the hold time has expired.
That is was confuses me.

Real trouble trying to install Catalyst Legacy
I'm kind of in trouble trying to install catalyst-total-hd234k package from the AUR
using yaourt to achieve this, enabled the xorg112 package to downgrade, tried pacman directly and makepkg, same result
It asks a lot of dependencies conflicting with catalyst drivers, so I accept to remove before downgrading to 1.12
It goes through like if nothing was up after downgrading, package installs without any error
Following the AMD Catalyst wiki page in here leads me to have a black screen after reboot
EDIT 2: Process of reproducing the problem I'm facing
- I enable the xorg112 repository on top of every other in /etc/pacman.conf
- Downgrade xorg with
# pacman -S xorg

let me paste form the grill:
I'm pretty sure that you didn't update catalyst-total-hd234k to version 13.1-28, because there I fixed conflict with ati-dri.
Comment by doblerone (2014-12-17 19:15)
During the last update, apparently there are some conflicts between catalyst-libgl and catalyst-total-hd234k. The suggestion is to remove catalyst-total-hd234k.
Comment by Vi0L0 (2014-12-18 08:14)
You are probably using libva-xvba-drivers which from yesterday depend on catalyst-libgl, i will add it to provides array after getting back home
Comment by Vi0L0 (2014-12-18 21:50)
13.1-29:
- added catalyst-libgl, opencl-catalyst, lib32-catalyst-libgl and lib32-opencl-catalyst into provides array to satisfy libva-xvba-driver (and maybe other that will come in the future) deps;
- added linux 3.18 support (i cannot test it actually, i can see it compiles fine though)
Comment by K3pler (2015-01-05 12:43)
Planning to replace my ultra outdated x1950pro for a less outdated hd3870 lol.
And using this driver i probably need to downgrade xorg-server from 1.16 to 1.12 from the aur, right???
Thanks for your work VioLO

Building fglrx module for 3.17.6-1-ARCH kernel ...
Ok.
Add nomodeset to your kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst , ie.:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda1 ro nomodeset
You can use the tool 'aticonfig' to generate an xorg.conf file.
--------------------- ^^^^^^^^^ --------------------------------
fglrx was added into /etc/modules-load.d/catalyst.conf
atieventsd (needs acpid pkg) on systemd:
systemctl enable atieventsd
systemctl start atieventsd
For more info and troubleshooting visit:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst
ATTENTION!
To enable 'automatic re-compilation while system shutdown/reboot'
testing feature run these commands as root:
systemctl enable catalyst-hook
systemctl start catalyst-hook
More info here:

- Then, I re-enable catalyst-hook (and optionally atieventsd) to be able to build modules at end and start of pc
$ sudo systemctl disable catalyst-hook
Removed symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/catalyst-hook.service.
$ sudo systemctl disable atieventsd
Removed symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/atieventsd.service.
$ sudo systemctl enable catalyst-hook
Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/catalyst-hook.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/catalyst-hook.service.
$ sudo systemctl enable atieventsd
Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/atieventsd.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/atieventsd.service.
- Afterwards, I blacklist the radeon module for it not to interfere with fglrx:
Added "blacklist radeon" on the nano prompt below
$ sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
- Then I generate the xorg.conf file, and get the output below with '# aticonfig --initial'

ThinkPad S440 Catalyst Control Center Error
Hi,
I keep getting a message on my latop:
Catalyst control center: host application has stopped working.
This has started happening after I tried to do a BIOS update last week and I ended up with the blue screen of death & had to recover my whole laptop.
I have no idea what the message means, I was wondering if anyone could help?
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi there, i had the same problem after i installed windows 8.1
but now it's solved by updating catalyst software.
You may try to visit www.AMD.com then install autodetect drivers program.
Hope it helps.
My catalyst version is:1206.1603.28764 -
[SOLVED]Problem installing ATI catalyst drivers
Hello arch users, ive been having trouble when installing the ati proprietary drivers through pacman. I followed the wiki and added the catalyst repo into my pacman.conf file. however when i type in sudo pacman -Syu i get this:
:: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'catalyst.db' from catalyst.apocalypsus.net : The requested URL returned error: 404
error: failed to update catalyst (download library error)
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
multilib is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
there is nothing to do
and when i try to install catalyst and catalyst-utils i get this as an output:

any idea on what to do?
i want to use the proprietary over the open source because it gives me less problems when using 3d rendering.
or are there any other ways of installing these packages other than pacman?
Last edited by CokaBear (2012-07-19 19:45:35)You could add 'SigLevel = Never' under the catalyst repo in pacman.conf, so that it doesn't check for package integrity.
And about the 404, maybe your 'Server' is incorrect. I use 'Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch' -
Catalyst will not load RAW .mxf files
I am having an issue loading RAW mxf files in Catalyst. When browsing through the folder structure, no MXF files appear. It has worked for me once or twice, but not consistently. In finder, the files are obviously there and can even be dragged into the software with no problems, but that method does not allowe me to transcode, which is my big issue. You can see here that nothing shows up.http://i.imgur.com/sZoHI8g.png I've just updated Catalyst, and still no luck. Appreciate the help,Tom
I believe I found the reason for this. John, I attempted you suggestion and copied the raw mxf file to a folder in my desktop, which had no problem showing up. Everything I am working on is run off of a network drive of I believe 200 TB. For whatever reason, no folders at all show up when I bring the browser all the way back to choose which hard drive to read. Now like I mentioned, if I drag one of the files directly into the program, it works. All of the folders appear, and I can move backwards when browsing, however there is no RAW file in the individual folders unless I drop it in individually, go backwards in the folder, then back to it. So it seems that the issue is with the network drive, or the software's capabilities of using it. (The folder structure was copied directly from the card and never changed by the way.) Thank you all for your help!

New Catalyst - can't switch graphic card
Hi,
I recently updated Catalyst control center to the version 14.11.2 Beta to solve crashing problem with Dragon Age 3. However, since then I cannot manually switch between graphic cards, the option simply dissappeared in this version. Am I missing anything or the option is really no longer there?
Thanks in advance.Hello @reccol
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Catalyst 2960X Trunk Uplink - ETHCNTR-3-LOOP_BACK_DETECTED
Hy,
I have a problem with the new Catalyst 2960X Series (WS-C2960X-48FPS-L; IOS 15.0(2)EX5; C2960X-UNIVERSALK9-M).
If I trying a trunk-port-channel to the core switch in VSS-Mode( Catalyst 6509E, Version 15.1(2)SY), go short time all trunk port interface to err-disable state ... 1 interface remains up state:
Feb 13 07:47:50.459: %ETHCNTR-3-LOOP_BACK_DETECTED: Loop-back detected on GigabitEthernet1/0/50.
Feb 13 07:47:50.459: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: loopback error detected on Gi1/0/50, putting Gi1/0/50 in err-disable state
Feb 13 07:47:51.504: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/50, changed state to down
Feb 13 07:47:52.539: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/50, changed state to down
... and so on ...
Config on the C2960X:
=================
interface Port-channel1
switchport mode trunk
no keepalive
end
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/49-52
switchport mode trunk
channel-protocol lacp
channel-group 1 mode passive
end
==================
Config on C6509E:
==================
interface Port-channel56
switchport
switchport mode trunk
end
interface GigabitEthernet1/3/6, 1/4/6, 2/3/6, 2/4/6
switchport
switchport mode trunk
channel-protocol lacp
channel-group 56 mode active
end
==================
Only if I make a shutdown and no shutdown on the err-disable interface comes up the port.
After a reload, the same goes all over again.
Does anyone have any idea or solution?
Regards and thanks for help...
StefanHello, gropper1929.
I think spanning tree protocol detects a loop befoure your C6509E sends a request to form a aggregate channel (spanning tree works first after turning on the interface and prevent any traffic for 50 sec). Try to use active mode from a C2960X side too. Maybe it will help with your problem. Or you can configure err-disable for a 30 sec so after geting error it'll go up after 30 sec and form a aggregate channel.
Best Regards. -
Nexus 5548 and Define static route to forward traffic to Catalyst 4500
Dear Experts,
Need your technical assistance for the Static routing in between Nexus 5548 and Catalyst 4500.
Further I connected both Nexus 5548 with Catalyst 4500 as individual trunk ports because there is HSRP on Catalyst 4500. So I just took 1 port from each nexus 5548, make it trunk with the Core Switch (Also make trunk from each Switch each port). Change the speed on Nexus to 1000 because other side on Catalyst 4500 line card is 1G RJ45.
*Here is the Config on Nexus 5548 to make port a Trunk:*
N5548-A/ N5548-B
Interface Ethernet1/3
Switchport mode trunk
Speed 1000
Added the static route on both nexus for Core HSRP IP: *ip route 0.0.0.0/0 10.10.150.39 (Virtual HSRP IP )*
But I could not able to ping from N5548 Console to core Switch IP of HSRP? Is there any further configuration to enable routing or ping?
Pleas suggestHello,
Please see attached config for both Nexus 5548. I dont have Catalyst 4500 but below is simple config what I applied:
Both Catalyst 4500
interface gig 3/48
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encap dot1q
On Nexus 5548 Port 1/3 is trunk
Thanks,
Jehan -
Hi everyone,
After a big update, catalyst or compiz is having problems showing my desktop properly. I cannot see my wallpaper, and anything drawn to the screen is left there (resulting in the window trails) here's what it looks like: http://i52.tinypic.com/n6e1c0.jpg
The crazy thing is when I reboot, whatever was on my screen when the PC rebooted comes back, behind all windows and immovable.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, compiz is my standalone window manager - it's not run on top of anything
Last edited by MystX (2010-11-17 09:11:56)Good chance you're having the problem discussed in this thread. The (temporary) solution is to install 'xorg-server-compositing-fix' from AUR.
Unless it's something else. -
Display bug with new catalyst driver & xorg
Hello everyone,
I have just updated catalyst (fglrx) from fglrx 8.40.4 to catalyst 7.11-1 and Xorg server from 1.2.0-5 to 1.4-5. Indeed I have an ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 (RS485) on my laptop.
Everything is well except...this bad bug :
almost each time a window is created (xterm, dialog box which pops up, firefox ...; there are maybe other trigger events) a strange blurred square appears at the bottom right corner of my screen, and my cursor has a strange trail, as if a piece of widget was attached to it. The cursor trail disappears quickly, but not the square. I have to switch in console mode and to go back to X to make it clear. It is composed of pixels of different colors.
Does someone have the same problem ?
Moreover the driver gl (or gl2) does no more work with mplayer, I have to use the x11 one, but glxgears is ok and I have, according to glxinfo, direct rendering enabled.There are many problems with the latest AMD xorg driver. To fix the display corruption, add
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
To your fglrx device section in xorg.conf
Also, try disabling AIGLX - it's not working well and is known to cause some problems.
In xorg.conf:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection
