  • Strange things with Speed Fan 4.14...

I have followed the suggestions exactly as told in an extensive thread here. The problem I have is that despite having the 865PE Neo2, it shows up as Winbond W83627HF. The thread says that since I have the 865PE Neo2 I should also have the Winbond "83627THF" (notice the THF and not only HF which is for the P875...).
Anyone knows why this is and how to fix that? My temps are as follows: NB 54 (I know this isn't correct), System 39, HD0 37, CPU 35. Is it really normal to have such a cool CPU while the system is 39? I thought the CPU would always be hotter/warmer than the entire system...
    Thanks in advance.

    Danny,
I have a MSI 875p NEO-FISR (MS-6758 V2), but my speed fan config screen says I have W83627THF chips. I also note the little console window always reports:
    I/O properly initialized
!!!Exception in reading CPU INFO at startup (2)!!!
    Linked ISA BUS at $0290
    Linked Intel 82801EB ICH5 SMBUS at $0C00
    Scanning ISA BUS at $0290...
Winbond W83627THF (ID=$90) found on ISA at $290
    Scanning Intel SMBus at $0C00...
LM80 found on SMBus at $2F
    SMART Enabled for drive 0
    Found Maxtor 6Y080P0 (80.0GB)
    End of detection
Am I running into a problem here due to the exception? I guess I have always just ignored this because otherwise speedfan seems to work ok.

  • Speed fan problems ??

I have a TI4200-TD8x and I installed the software MSI3D! Turbo Exp. which monitors the fan speed and the temperature of the VGA. It keeps alerting me that the fan speed is low (it's at aproximately 1500rpm and the temperature keeps slightly rising. Does anyone know what the speed fan and temperature values should be. And if the values I´m getting are not what they should be , what can I do to fix this ???

I'm also having a problem with my ti4200.
I have the latest drivers from nvidia and i use "MSI,3D Turbo experience" software to check the temperature and the fans!
Everything runs fine, except the fact that my graphic card temperature rises a lot when i play games like Painkiller and so...
I can only play 30 min with my case closed...
I would like to know what should be the temperature of my ti4200?
The default alarm of MSI,3D Turbo experience is 58ºC, and my card is running 52 degrees without playing anything...

  • Speed fan questions......

I was concerned about the cpu temperatures as I've just put some Artic Silver on the CPU & Heatsink.  I installed Speed Fan but I'm not too sure what to make of the results.
    It says
Fan 1 is at 0       rpm with a temp of 73 (hot flame)
Fan 2 is at 1722 rpm with a temp of 61 (hot flame)
Fan 3 is at 4688 rpm with a temp of 39 (blue arrow)
What is fan 1? and why so hot?
What are the clear and precise instructions for the changes to the bios? that alter the temperatures to what they should be?
and I'm currently got win98 (getting XP soon) would this make a difference at all?

just untick temp 3 in speedfan its nonsense ,go configure to access this
fan ones the other connector on board it has 3 points to plug in fans
you have to set desired temps in speedfan to suite
depending on your normal temps configure click on temp
    then play with temp options
fan 3 is cpu,the others either psu or case fan depending on header you have used

  • Speed Fan sensor ID's on Neo2 Platinum

Can anyone give me a clue to what the sensor labled "Remote Temp" in Speed Fan is reading?
It's got me kinda concerned, because sometimes indicates temps that are nearly as high as my CPU! & that wasn't the case until very recently.
In the "Configure" screen it reads like this:
Label               Chip         Sensor             Sample   Bus                    Address
    Remote Temp  MAX6648  Remote Temp  37C        I2CNvidia SMbus  $4C
    Thanks!

Winbond sensor3 is not connected to any external sensor on motherboard , and any temp on this one is bogus.
The mobo has two valid connections to winbond chip nvidia-chipset & cpu , no case sensor .
    Winbonds connected are :
    Sensor1 chipset
    Sensor2/diode cpu
In my case with SpeedFan 4.20, sensor #1 is obviously bogus as I'm reasonably certain that my chipset isn't running @ 9C... Sensor #2 has been verified as "the real deal" as CPU, however. Maybe they've been reassigned/relabeled in this version. Sensor #1 WAS cpu in version 4.17 of SpeedFan.

The MAX6648 is the sensors on the NVidia card. I never even saw that sensor until I installed my vid card and there they were.
As far as the "MAX6648" sensors go - I know that neither one of the values denote Vid core temps, which are 43-45C. As reported by temp utilities by Nvidia & Riva Tuner. Perhaps one of them is an ambient temp sensor of some sort or that SpeedFan is flat reading them incorrectly....
I know it's all academic anyway.... My "box" is reasonably dust-free, all my fans are running, there are no malfunctions (out of the ordinary anyway... it IS Windows after all!) & I don't smell the distinct odor of "electronic expiration".

  • Voltage readings with speed fan

This may be a case of too much knowledge and not enough education. I recently got Speed Fan after linking into this site searching for information about my mobo's temps. What is bothering me are Speed Fan's reading for voltages. They seem to be way out of line. The mobo bios lists the following:
    +3.3  3.28
    +5.0  5.06
    +12.0   12.2
    -12.0    11.83
These flucuate slightly as I watch them.
Here are the readings from Speed Fan. I'm going to insert a picture and hope it works. If not then I will manually enter the numbers in a following post. I haven't a clue what all of the numbers refer to. Some seem in line while others are off the map. Which ones refer to the power supply? Thanks.
    \image{speed fan}

OK, the picture didn't work. Here are the Speed Fan voltage numbers:
    Vcore:    1.49V            5Vsb:   4.96V            +5V:    6.71V
    +12V:   12.46V            Vbat:    0.00V          +12V:  16.10V
    3.3V:      3.06V        COREA:    3.36V           -12V:   -8.43V
    Vcc:       4.99V       COREB:    3.36V             -5V:   -2.89V
    Vin2:      0.00V         +3.3V:   4.43V
Why are these numbers, some of them anyway, so extremely different than the ones I am getting in PC Health in my Bios?
Here's the rest of the data given also:
    CPU      47C
    Temp3  39C
    HD0      40C
    HD1      39C
    Fan01   5233 RPM
    Fan02   2961 RPM

  • Hi Speed Fan Running

All of a sudden the high speed fan is on and don't know how to correct or verify status. Ran permissions. I do have disk warrior if that is germain?

Sorted this out thru research on intel imac's. Found a thread talking about resetting SMC (System Mgmt Controller). Essentially the fix is holding down the power button and shutting down the IMAC. Then unplug power cord. "A reset".
I knew the IMAC was not overheating and have never heard the fan going full tilt?
Hopefully this will help others at a later time. BTW the IMAC just had it's 1st birthday without a problem.

  • Speed Fan acoustic warning

    Hi,
I just installed The Speed Fan and found that there is no acoustic warning signal, only optic a little icon.
Am I missing something or is this correct ? If yes then the optic warnings can be seen only when you look at it and this is not what we users would like to have.
    Thanks

Speedfan 4.28 can be set up to create an audible warning. Click on the Configure button and go to the Events tab. Some basic instructions are at http://www.almico.com/sfarticle.php?id=4 . I know it works as I tested it.
edit: For CPU temperature, pick the sensor for the CPU temp in the drop down box labled "If". Now, in the next box, pick <, <=, >=, or >. Next, decide how many beeps and for how many seconds(I think 0 makes it constantly beep.). In the "Then drop down box, choose an action, such as beep. Click Add, then Ok.
P.S. I would think that a properly cooled and running machine will never sound an alarm. Also, modern CPUs have Thermal Protection and will shut themselves down before they can be damaged.

  • Speed fan & MSI P965 Neo-F V2 ( F71882F sensor) Temp 3

Hi, I am using the following spec PC
    MSI P965 Neo-F V2
    2.2Ghz Core2duo
    2x1GB Ram
    320gb SATA HD
I have speed fan loaded, the temperature outputs are usually something like
    Temp1 31 - Case?
    Temp2 32 - CPU?
    Temp3 77 - mobo?
    HD0   36
    Core0 30
    Core1 30
    Graphics core 45
    ambient 0
The one i'm worried about is Temp3 77 degrees, Everest (trial version) reckons this is the mobo sensor. I can't find any other info on whether this is correct or not.
I can't find anything hot on the mobo at all, the heatsinks on the bridges (or whatever else they might be) are cool.
I'm a bit worried about this, the only thing that is strange is that the reading is 77 as soon as the mobo is on - so it's not taking time to get to that temperature.
    Anyone got any ideas? info?
    Regards
    Luke

I think is just some wrong reading, or ICH's own temperature, which 77 degree celsius is about the temperature ICH is.
Anyway, you should also refer to BIOS temp reading instead.

  • IMac G4 Fan noise very loud, excessive speed

    Hi there
My iMac is making a lot of fan noise, I have fun iStat pro and its saying my HD temp is at 106 F and I have already unplugged my power cord and reset my computer, but the fan noise is still very very loud, its hard to sleep in the same room with it also I am running leopard on it could that be an issue?
    any suggestions or solutions?

Hello I just recently bought a imac like a month ago but it's starting to make this fan noise when it starts up..
Please if someone knows what's going or how can I solve this problem tell me!
    I need help.

  • Speed fan factory setting

    Hello!
I have a mac mini late 2011 with osx 10.8.4.
This morning I installed a program for the control of the fans and I have set a wrong value: 5500rpm anyway! After the program would not let me change this value more then I removed it (with the appropriate uninstaller) but the fan still looked an airplane.
After a couple of restarts is back at around 1800rpm (verified with iStat pro from the dashboard)
After I installed another program to control fans and here appeared the default 5500rpm without being able to change anything. Removed too!
I tried to reset the SMC but the procedure found online do not seem to work.
Now the problem is that the fan speed does not increase when excess of 80 ° (which might happen, for example, I see a movie FullHD).
How can I repost the rules for managing the fan to the factory?

    You will need  to
reinstall the iStat Menus and smcFanControl software,
    reset the defaults,
remove the software according to their documentation
Please note that clean my mac app is not necessary as Mac OS X looks after itself:

  • Imac G5 full speed fan

All of a sudden my imac G5 is starting in single user mode before getting to the login screen and the fan is running at full speed all of the time. Any idea how to get out of single user mode at startup and stopping the fan from running

    Hi bjdd;
when you are in single user mode, the fan is supposed to run at full speed.
Go to your System Preferences and then to accounts, then to login options. See if you have login window checked for name and password and if you are the only user, to automatically log in as "your name".
    See if that helps,

I forgot to mention that you can exit single user mode by typing reboot and pressing "return"

  • Computer speed/fan problems in old age

Hi everyone. Puzzling over a persistent issue with my nearly 5-year old Powerbook G4 12" here. It's had a replacement logic board and hard drive 2 years ago just as Apple Care was about to run out, so those elements are fairly new. Specs: 1.5 ghz, OS X 10.5.8, memory 1.25 ghz.
Over the years it's become really SLOW. I'm not sure if this is related, but the fan seems to run almost constantly. Not every waking second, as some people report, but a WHOLE LOT. I take good care of this computer. I've bought it new batteries, kept the software fresh and clean, etc. I finally became frustrated with this persistent sluggishness that definitely wasn't there when it was new, and wiped the disc, and reinstalled OS X from scratch.
To my surprise, it's still just as slow! The OS X Welcome Video lagged a lot when playing. On a fresh install, on a wiped drive. That video has not lagged the first two or three times I reinstalled the OS over the years.
And it's sitting next to me right now, no programs running, cpu at around 11%, and the fan is going full blast. iStatPro reports rear main fan at 5056rpm, with temps at HD: 44°, CPU bottom: 44°, Bat: 32°, GPU: 51° (all in Celsius).
One of my initial instincts was "dust?" Could it be that over time the innards have become all clogged with dust and the fan has to work extra hard (and all the time) to keep the CPU cool enough? Is the CPU clocking down to avoid overheating? Do Apple CPUs do that?

    Titaniumdoughnut:
The temperatures you report don't seem excessive, so I'm not sure what's with the fan. Dust is a possibility, but unless you operate in a very dusty environment it would be a bit unusual to have enough dust to affect the functioning of the computer. If you wish you can take the computer apart and wipe the dust off the fan with a clean, lint-free damp cloth. Do not use forced air, whether canned air or any other method, as that may force dust into more critical areas.
I know you have a new HDD, but it might be helpful to check its functioning, anyway. First, select the HDD icon on the desktop and Get Info (Command + I) and note and report the total capacity and available capacity.
Next, download and run SMART Utility 2.0.2
Third, launch the Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor) and check Page ins and Page outs as well as Swap used.

  • G5 Speed/ Fan noise

Hi, I recently got a G5 DP 1.8 (late 2004) and was curios about the fan speed noise.
When I fist turn on the G5, the fans sound like there spinning fast, then they quieten down, is it something to do with the computer processing power just idling when not in use, and when the extra power is needed, is that when the fans speed up?
If so, Is there anyway to have it going at full power all the time? as when I do my photograph work, the fans speed up and slow down every now and then.
    Any info please,
    Thanks, Andy

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
The pattern of fan activity is usually that there is a brief rev when the power button is pressed for Startup, and then the fans run at near to full speed for about 35 seconds while the system boots - and then OS X takes over fan control. The fan speed of the large Intake and Exhaust fans(that make most of the noise) varies with the amount of heat produced by the processors.
You can set 'Processor Performance' to 'Reduced', 'Automatic' or 'Highest' in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options.
Please post again if you have any questions. Good Luck.

  • Sporadic high-speed fan behavior ––– removing battery solves problem?

Every so often, my fans will peg around 6,000rpm, even though the operating temp is around 120º – not nearly hot enough to trigger such fan action. I check Activity Monitor and nothing is hogging the CPU (Safari 5.0, kernel_task 3.3, pmTool 2.6, configd 2.4, etc. – these are pretty typical readings.) The % Idle is usually around 90%.
I just discovered that removing the battery solves the problem. Just one minute later, my fan speed is at 2003rpm.
It's driving me nuts, and (of course) when I take it to the Genius Bar, it won't replicate the problem.
    Any ideas?

While I'm not sure what may be causing your sporadic fan behavior, running your MacBook Pro with the battery removed causes the system to significantly reduce the processor speed. That is probably why your system is running cooler with the battery removed... not because of any fault with the battery itself:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
You may want to reset your System Management Controller (SMS). The link below provides the details. Among the things this will address are fans that run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated. Be sure to follow the instructions specific for your machine as they vary slightly from model to model.
