Exch2007 Server Died - Rebuilt, now need to restore, HELP !
Hi all,
Was running Win2008 & Exchange 2007 (SP2)......
Server died this morning, failed RAID :(
I use Symantec BackupExec 12.5, and have a backup of the Info Store & Logs (and the folder containing my SSL cert for OWA access)
I had already built a new Server with a different name and installed Exchange 2007 (SP3), as was looking to move all mailboxes from the old physical server onto the VM Server..... But the server crash got there first. :( :(
When I log into that server and look at mailboxes, it can see the mailboxes (well, the names),
But as the server no longer exists, how do I get back to normal ?
Do I rebuild my server, although would be Windows 2008R2 & Exchange 2007 (SP3), with the same name and same IP address as before....
Restore the database to the recovery storage group (if it lets me) ?
How would I go about restoring data into the mailbox database.edb which would be auto created in the "first storage group" ?
Am very lost here and out of my depth! :(
I had 3 DC's, 2 original DC's and I made a DC a few days before the crash...
Its Server2003 Domain level, and the Windows2003 Server holds all the roles and is the primary DC...
I had already updated the settings to make devices point to the new DC I created....
So on a Domain Controller level, am OK there, have 2 operational, and I followed the instructions using ndsutil to remove the dead DC server (which was also the mail server).
Progress now, I think:
Using BackupExec 12.5, I restored the Exchange Database & logs onto the new server (different name server).
I then used ESEUTIL to merge logs and database and also repair it, as the tool told me the DB was in a Dirty Shutdown state...
It now states the Dbase is CLEAN.
I am now able to mount the datatbase in the Recovery Storage Group, and when performing pre-merge options, I can see the mailboxes and other info.
Question now is, how do I get the info onto the new server ?
IE: Old Server name is: EMAIL1
New server name is EMAIL2
The new server had already been exposed to the Exchange organisation last week, so when I open Exhange Management Console, and look at Mailboxes, I can see 50 mailboxes, but all stating they reside on EMAIL1 server......
How do I move the container config, etc so the mailboxes are on EMAIL2 server ??
In terms of using the recover switch, am guessing that would mean building a new virtual server (not a problem, I have one ready setup), giving it the same name and IP as before, and then installing EXCH2007 using that switch ????
I recall the old server having C & D: drives, with exchange and its Dbase installed on D:
But can only assume the files were stored in the usual path (d:\program files\exch2007\mailboxes)
Cant be 100% certain though...

If you've not started the new computer yet, after you've started it you'll answer a few questions and then be asked whether you want to restore the computer. If you answer yes you'll be asked the source. Choose hard drive - make sure the TimeMachine drive is plugged in. Choose the TM drive from the list and let it go. It will take a while.
If you've already started the computer look for Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder. You'll be asked the same question about the source. Follow the instructions above. -

The phone answered this for me - when I connected the iPhone5 to my computer it gave me a choice which included "restore from backup". Problem solved

okay so last night i went to charge my ipod in the computer and it started working then i took it out of the computer and put it on a wall charger and it had a spasm attack and shut itself down, after that it said i had to connect it to itunes so when i did it kept telling me that i need to restore my ipod, but when i press restore the itunes said "the contact server is not avalible" or something similar to that, what does that actually mean and is there anyway i can fix my ipod. i have dropped my ipod a few times, on tiles, wood, in a gutter of water when it fell out my pocket but im also wondering is it something to do with my ipod or is it itunes?

iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
The abuse may prevent a restore or prevent proper operation of the iPod if you can restore the iPod. -

Connect iPhone to iTunes.
Select restore.
When prompted, select restore as new.
If you've already done the "Erase all settings" option in Settings > General > Reset then it is already set up as new. -
Macbook died so now need to transfer my backup from TC to a new Dell
My main worry is transferring all the apps/music etc that we had in itunes. As this was my sons computer there is not so much data but he currently has none of his original purchases on his new computer. As he also lost his itouch prior to the computer dieing I have no other back up except in TC. Since the TC was only operating with Macs will it now transfer those files onto a Dell PC? No, sorry, Time Machine backups are in a rather complex format that Windows (and even Macs prior to Leopard) simply don't recognize.
You'll need to borrow a Mac to have any hope of recovering them. The apps won't work on a PC at all, but you should be able to restore the iTunes library (or individual songs) to an external HD, then to the PC.
Unless the PC can read HFS+ (Mac-formatted) HDs, you should format the external with the Mac, with the MS-DOS (FAT) format, equivalent to FAT32. If the Mac is running 10.6.5 or later, you can use the ExFAT format. See #1 in Using Disk Utility for formatting instructions.

Help! I updated to ios7, my phone has itunes symbol and cable pic. Online I saw that I needed to connect to itunes but I never synced to my desktop. Stopped at Verizon and was told to install itunes, plug in and it will work. On itunes I get the error that it recognizes a phone in recovery mode and must restore befor using itunes. I have no idea how to restore a phone that is locked with the itunes logo and pic of cable.

Help !! I had a problem with my iPad 2 this morning which resulted in me taking into the apple store and them restoring it to factory settings. They advised me to restore all my apps etc from iTunes which I am trying to do, however once connected via the USB I cannot see it as a device on iTunes, and I keep getting the message on my laptop "the iPad cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later, go to iTunes.com/uk and download the latest version"

Hi, My pc running Vista crashed - memory dump blue screen - total failure to reboot. I retrieved all the directories I had data in and the Firefox program directory from the hard drive. I want to see if I can now retrieve the bookmarks from this directory structure so that they can be brought back into my new version of Firefox. Is there a file or directory which holds the bookmark details? There is an install file with the following details:

My current version of Firefox is 6.0.2

After multiple recovery attempts I finally used DiskWarrior to download saved files/folder/applicatiions to external hard drive. I cannot get old version (5.0) of bridge to run. Redownload Bridge (5.1) but still need to recover my photos.
Any advise on how this can be accomplished.Bridge is only a browser. It does not contain any files. You need to find out where you saved your photos, and hope they are still accessible on the crashed drive... Just copy them over to your new drive.

Multithreading server /- client doesnt update need a little help
I have three classes, one is my client called lobby, the second is my server, then my third is the server thread. Everything works but the client doesnt seem to update unless you type stuff in and hit enter or press send and that isbecause of the key and action listeners, how do i go about having to updating every 10 seconds or less..? I tried doing a while statement and of course it freezed it because its an infinite loop, tried making it a thread, not to good at that, i just need some advice on how to solve this problem, thanks.

Failed Upgrade to Version 3.1.2 - iPod Touch now won't restore - HELP !!
I sync'd my iPod touch (2nd Generation) today and decided to upgrade from V3.0 to the V3.1.2
The upgrade was donloaded but somehow failed to load onto the iPod. Saw the message on iTunes "Updating iPod Software" but after about an hour I gave up and reset the iPod and PC. Now I've tried to restore it but I just get the White Apple logo on the screen and a progress bar that's stuck. iTunes still shows "Restoring iPod software". Tried this about 3 times now and ready to give up !!! Any ideas welcome. Thanks. GavHaving sililar problems with one of my 2 ipod touch.

I did manage to set it up fine and get some music on it. However itunes asked that I update the software for the device. I clicked update and now the ipod is back to the start and stuck in that mode.!!

Yesterday my IPOD quit working and I got the sad icon with the ! I managed to get into the disk mode and hooked it up to my laptop and it synched. I used it today and it quit working after about 20 minutes. Will somebody please let me know what to expect when I try the next step of restoring it to factory settings? I understand that all songs will be erased from the IPOD. It has been 2 years since I loaded songs and I don't remember what I did when I first got my IPOD. I am a bit concerned since I don't know what to expect. I have a click wheel, 20BG IPOD. Thanks for any information.

When i tried to download iOS8 on my iPad Mini it told me that I needed to connect my iPad to iTunes, I have done that and now it says I need to restore my iPad. How can I get my iPad working without losing everything on my iPad? I don't want to lose my apps and photos!
Help would be much appreciated!If you are getting the connect to iTunes screen then it's too late to take a new backup and/or copy anything off it. Prior to starting the update did you take a backup, either to the cloud and/or to your computer's iTunes ? If not then have you recently taken a backup that might have your photos and apps content/settings in it ?
As long as the apps are still in your country's store then you should be able to redownload them via the Purchased tab in the App Store app (and the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes), and if the apps store their content on a server/cloud service then you might be able to get their content back from that - if they store their content on the device then you will need to have a backup.
For our photos you could try doing a search for programs that claim to be able to recover content from a device - I haven't used any so I can't suggest one.
