Exchange 2003 and Mail offsite

I have a Macbook Pro running Snow leopard. My company is using exchange 2003. Is it possible to use the Mail app to send and receive emails when my Macbook Pro is off site (i.e. at home). I do not care about contacts or calendar items to sync up. I just hate using the OWA (Outlook Web Access) to read and send emails. My IT Guy said he will set up anything I need on the server to allow this but we dont know what exactly needs to be set up. Please help!! I just wanna use the Mail app to send and receive emails off site, that is all!!

The native mail client in Snow leopard only supports exchange 2007 (and that doesn't work properly at present)
If you want to connect to exchange 2003 you either need entourage or you can use mail.app if IMAP is enabled on exchange
http://blog.monkeykit.com/2007/08/31/how-to-setup-imap4-exchange-2003-email-to-s ync-with-your-iphone/ explains how to enable IMAP on exchange 2003

  • Exchange 2003 and Mac Mail (leopard) Mac Os 10.5.8

I am a new mac user....my school uses Microsoft Exchange 2003 and I can access my school account from the web using Outlook Web Access 2003. I am trying to consolidate and get my school account to my mail on my macbook....I know all of my server info as I get my email on my phone, but I am not getting anything to work on my macbook..... any ideas?

I have exchange 2003 at school(and outlook web access from internet) and I am trying to get it to show up directly into the mail part of my mac book.... I am not a techie, obviously, but when I try to add the account, I had been using Exchange instead of IMAP and POP.... The exchange process didn't work so then I actually did try IMAP and POP, but maybe the incoming outgoing server should be different than what I am putting in.... I can receive outlook (school email, contacts, etc) on my samsung blackjack so I thought there wouldn't be much to it, but obviously I am doing something wrong and I should just talk to my school

  • SPAM rules on Inbox after migration from Exchange 2003 - GFI Mail Essentials

    Hello,
Few times ago, we had an Exchange 2003 server with mailboxes which were configured with "rulemgmt.exe" tool (from Microsoft ?) to manage users mailboxes and SPAM redirection in these mailboxes.
GFI MailEssentials (antispam) was installed on a mail relay and once a SPAM was detected, it was redirected in Inbox/SPAM folder on user mailbox thanks to the rule defined by "rulemgmt.exe".
Recently, we did a migration from Exchange 2003 to 2010. Unfortunately, "rulemgmt.exe" doesn't work anymore on Exchange 2010 and it's replaced by a "Transport Rule" which works fine but only to redirect SPAMs in Junk e-mail folder. However,
if I don't set up this transport rule, SPAM redirection still works from mailboxes which were created on Exchange 2003 and e-mails go to Inbox/SPAM as before... For new mailboxes on Exchange 2010, it doesn't work which is normal.
My question is: for old mailboxes from Exchange 2003, where are the SPAM redirection (Inbox/SPAM) information stored? I don't understand how SPAM can be redirected if the information is not stored in Exchange...
The aim is to use Junk E-mail folder with the Transport Rule at the end everywhere and to clean old rules used for Inbox/SPAM.
I contact GFI support but they couldn't help me.
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    DeltaSM

Those old mailboxes probably have old rules still set.  You can use the Outlook.exe /cleanrules switch to purge those old rules.  This would require that you create an outlook profile for each of those impacted mailboxes.
You can also look at using MFCMapi -
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2860406/en-us
When that is done, you might want to perform a Clean-MailboxDatabase and then look at the mailbox rules (get-inboxrule).  If that does not work for you, could be something else within the mailbox and as such, I would recommend working with MS to get
    more info.

  • Exchange 2003 - Apple Mail problems

Very strange problem occurred this morning. I've seen numerous posts with similar characteristics, but no resolution. I'll try to be as detailed and concise as possible:
Problem: Can't connect to Exchange server to send or receive mail
    Symptoms:
    - Mail's Activity viewer show's "Logging in as user 'username'" for long periods
    - Mail's Activity viewer show's "Comparing notes with server" for long periods, if it gets this far
    - Mail's Activity viewer displays "Synchronizing with server" for long periods, if it gets this far
    - Mail's Activity viewer displays extremely slow download of mail headers, if it gets this far
    - Entourage v.X and 2004 clients can connect without problem via Exchange protocol, whereas Mail clients (v1.3.11 and 2.0.7) using Exchange or IMAP cannot
    - Mozilla Thunderbird clients can connect without problem via IMAP
    - PC clients using Outlook 2003 for Exchange have no problem at all
I'd love to get this resolved without having to reinstall clients building-wide. I'm not convinced this isn't related directly to Exchange 2003 and/or Active Directory, but suspecting and proving are two different things. Additionally, Mail seems to be the only client affected.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. As always, if we find a resolution, I'll gladly post it here for everyone's benefit.
    Thanks.

This problem is endemic for me, but I find that it's the worst with large mailboxes. One user I have has 7700+ messages in her inbox and simply can't synch with Exchange 2003 using Apple Mail (Tiger). Others see the slowdown initially, but then it goes away and new mail comes in. I don't think it's the Exchange server because I use the same config every day, with 1200+ messages in my inbox and many more in my folders, with barely any slowdowns. I theorize that the large number of messages in the inbox and folders has something to do with it - I had some success with another user by taking lots of msgs out of the inbox and moving folders out of the inbox too.
Entourage v. X works fine, but I don't have Entourage 2004 to compare it with. Outlook 2003 on the Windows side is fine too. It's just Macs running Tiger with Mail 2.0.7 that have delays. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

    Hi Team,
I have come across a client who wants to migrate to O365 from existing Exchange 2003 environment through the Hybrid Model. I am trying to introduce 2010 Sp3 to the environment. While checking the environment using Exchange pre-deployment found 2 servers
in the environment which is not present on the network now. Client has no clue what they are.
One is Exchange 2003 and the other is Exchange 2000. The problem here is i cannot introduce Exchange 2010 Sp3 unless all the Exchange servers are running minimum Exchange 2003 Sp2.
At present i find only 2 exchange 2003 Sp2 server which are in production. Need kind assistance to move forward.

    Hi,
I recommend you follow the steps below:
    1. Please upgrade Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2003 SP2 at first.
    2. Deploy Exchange 2010 servers in this order: CAS, Hub, UM and Mailbox. For more information, here is an article for your reference:

  • Running Unity with both Exchange 2003 and 2010?

My company is planning to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2010.  We are
currently using Unity 7.0.  We'd like to run the two in parrallel for a bit and take our time switching users over.
Now I've read that Unity can support Exchange 2010, but I haven't found anything about running Unity using both Exchange 2003 and 2010 in parrallel.
Is this something Unity can handle?

We're doing something similar, but we have an in-place Unity 7 and Exchange 2003 environment; we are putting some users from an org we support on an Exchange 2010 server, but do not want that to be the partner server (yet).  The instructions seem to point you to making 2010 the partner; I'm wondering why Step 13 (of your link) we are uninstalling the Exchange Server 2003 System Management Tools, if it’s a mixed environment and 2003 will still be the partner server.  I also saw somewhere that you don’t have to move the unitymsgstoresvc account to Exchange 2010 if you are in a mixed environment.  Is that true?  Thank you.

  • Exchange 2003 and Mac Mail

I have set up a work email account in Mac Mail using IMAP (the mail is stored on an internal server - Exchange 2003).
An issue has come to light where when I send messages with large attachments they DON'T go into sent items in Mail or into the exchange server. I should say that occasionally they do go into sent but more often they do not.
If I send messages with no or a small attachments then it DOES go into the sent items on both the Mac and the exchange server.
Can someone please help with this one?
    Many thanks

  • Legacy integration between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010

    Dear Team,
we are using Microsoft Exchange 2003 & 2010 Server for Emails, now we have both servers are connected, we want to raise new Single incident request for doing this activity, we want disconnect 2003 server from 2010 server so accordingly need support,

    pls do the needful,
    Thanks & regards
    Anteshwar Bhosale

    Hi Anteshwar,
If you want to remove Exchange 2003 from your coexistence environment, please perform the following procedure:
    1. Move all mailboxes to an Exchange 2010 server in the organization.
    2. Move all content from the public folder database on the legacy Exchange 2003 server to a public folder database on an Exchange 2010 server in the organization.
    3. On Exchange 2003 servers, for each offline address book (OAB), move the generation process to an Exchange 2010 server.
    4. Verify that Internet mail flow is configured to route through your Exchange 2010 transport servers.
    5. Verify that all inbound protocol services (Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Microsoft Office Outlook Web App, Outlook Anywhere, POP3, IMAP4, Autodiscover service, and any other Exchange Web service) are configured for Exchange 2010.
If all above steps have been prepared, we can remove the last Exchange 2003 server from the Exchange 2010 organization from ADSIEdit. For detailed steps about this, please refer to:

  • Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 Coexistence Activesync Issue

    Hello,
I am currently on the progress of migrating mails from Exchange 2003 SP2 to Exchange 2010 SP3. Before I can do actual migration, I need to make sure that OWA and Activesync works when Exchange 2010 becomes Internet facing.
Right now Exchange 2003 is Internet facing while Exchange 2010 is internal LAN only. OWA login from Exchange 2010 to a mailbox in Exchange 2003 works fine. However, trying to open a mailbox in Exchange 2003 from Exchange 2010 Activesync fails.
Activesync login from Exchange 2010 to a mailbox in Exchange 2010 works fine, as well as logging in from Exchange 2003 to mailbox in Exchange 2003.
Tests using AccessMyLAN ActiveSync Tester using Exchange 2010 as entry point are inconclusive. The test shows the app successfully contacting ActiveSync version 6.5 which is Exchange 2003, but results in "Activesync detected, but not correctly configured."
Tests using Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity from Exchange 2010 reveals Error HTTP 400 when contacting Exchange 2003. The cmdlet also shows it successfully contacting Activesync version 6.5 (Exchange 2003).
I have searched around, installed hotfix KB937031, enabled Integrated Windows Authentication on Exchange 2003 Microsoft-Server-Activesync, disabled Require SSL for Microsoft-Server-Activesync and exchange-oma, yet I still can't connect to a mailbox inside
Exchange 2003 through ActiveSync 2010. Website Multiple Identities for port 80 has been set correctly. Exchange 2003 has Forms-Based Authentication Enabled and is the one thing we haven't tried disabling yet.
We want to make sure everything works first, then make Exchange 2010 Internet facing, and finally do the mail migration. We do not want to migrate everyone in a single sitting. Please if anyone have ideas any help is welcomed!

Exchange 2010 will proxy ActiveSync for Exchange 2003.  For OWA, it will redirect, so you need a legacy redirect URL.  You can test all of this internally without changing your Internet connection.  For ActiveSync you can use a WiFi connection.

  • Exchange 2003 and snow leopard

This is a short post to thank Denis Tolo
for pointing out how to get Exchange 2003 servers to work with
ical address book and mail : DavMail.
This was a real lifesaver ! A bit tricky to setup but hey it gets the job done.
The company I work for does not want t support mac ppl, and does not intend to upgrade exchange just yet
so untill now I could only check my work mail via webmail .......
On a side note for the man upstairs, It does sound funny that on the iphone you practically
set-up all of this in 30 sec max whilst to get it done on the mac it took me 2 years + DavMail.
P.S. it needs to be done on Lion too

From my MBP with 10.6.2 I can connect using OWA both to a hosted service running Exchange 2007 and an internal service running Exchange 2003.
It sounds as if there is a problem with the network configuration. Is there any firewall between your client system and your company server? Are you using the same IP information (DNS, GW, etc) on the client as on the other systems which work for you?

  • Require Passcode Immediately with Exchange 2003 and iPhone 3.0?

Before I upgraded to iPhone 3.0 I was syncing with Exchange 2003 SP2 and I had set my passcode to be required after 1 hour, which was changed from the default of 4 hours. On the Exchange server we have a policy in place to have a max of 12 hours before a passcode is required which works on my WM phones.
After upgrading to 3.0, the phone now immediately requires a passcode every time I turn it on. I went into the settings to change it to be a little longer, but the only option is to have it Immediately and I have lost all of the other options. Is there a way to get back at least 1 hour or something that reflects the 12 hour setting on my Exchange server?

I can confirm that you just need to turn OFF Mail, Contacts and Calendar sync within the Exchange account, set the timeout 4 hours (or whatever - it will automatically shrink down if your Exchaange administrator's policy is more restrictive), and then turn back ON Mail, Contacts and Calendar sync.
Note you'll get a scary warning that says all your Contacts and Calendar data will be deleted from the phone - Outlook users can ignore if you're syncing with Outlook, since it will re-sync when done.
