Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster SP1 to SP3 failback

If for some reason SP3 causes issues, we would like to be able to leave the offline node at SP1 for a day or so. Is this possible? Will it actually failover to a lesser version or will it complain and fail? Other gotchas with this possible plan?

I understand the directions and proceedure. I have went through the URL Shekhar37k noted many times.
"You don't want the newer version cluster to fail over to the previous version node." Why not? I have not been able to find any documentation as to why or whynot.
In the SQL world SQL 2008 supports this as a method of undoing an upgrade. See here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958734. We have actually had to do this in our environment due to new bugs being introduced ocassionally.
Exchange doesn't support uninstalling a Service Pack. So the prospect of going SP3 immediately on both nodes and having no recourse but to tear it all down and rebuild does not excite me.

I thought the virtual IP address by virtue of being 'virtual' should not change? :)
I guess it makes more sense to add the Virtual IPs. You can even add multiple hosts (with different IPs).

  • How to install a set of mixed clustering exchange server (Coexistence between 2007 CCR cluster with 2010 DAG or 2013 DAG)

I need a mixed clustering environment that coexist 2007 CCR cluter with 2010 DAG or 2013 DAG.
Is there any step-by-step article I can refer to?

    Hi,
Do you want to know how to migrate CCR to DAG?
If you want to migrate from CCR to DAG, there are two available ways to achieve this.
One is to bring the new hardware, the other is to break and format the existing Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster to use the hardware.
Bring the new hardware, you need to install new server and configure Exchange 2010 DAG, then move mailbox from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010.
Breaking the existing Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster, you need to decommission your passive Exchange Server 2007 SP2 Node first, re-install Exchange 2010 server role on this server, and then configure Exchange 2010 DAG using this server. After that, you
can migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, remove the last Exchange 2007 server. Then add seond server to existing DAG.
Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Using Recovery Storage Group to recover a single mailbox in Exchange 2007 CCR

    Hi, there:
    Our Environment: Exchange 2007(SP3) CCR
Now we got a task to recover a mailbox which is still on Exchange 2007 now(but it is suspected the owner deleted many emails before he left and these deleted items is NOT recoveralble through dumpster). They want to recover this mailbox to a point
of time where they believe these email items is not deleted at that time.
By reserach below is the steps which can be porformed:
1): Create a RSG and a mailbox database which is linked to the original mailbox database which host the single mailbox that we want to recover.
2): restore the mailbox database backup to this mailbox DB under the RSG.
3): Merge the recovered single mailbox to the existed one.
    My question is:
When I create the RSG and the mailbox DB under this RSG using the tool on EMC, can I specify the path of "System folder path" and "mailbox DB file path" on  drive other than C:, the C: drive on Exchange CCR active node does
NOT have enough disk space so it has to be created somewhere othan than C: drive?

    Hi, Andy:
    Thans for your post.
    I have a look at
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997694(v=exchg.80).aspx.
One thing I have question is when you use cmdlet to create a RSG:
    new-storagegroup -Server <Server_Name> -LogFolderPath <path_to_Logfiles> -Name <RSG_Name> -SystemFolderPath  <Database_Path> -Recovery.
    What should be the <server_name>?
we use CCR, if I want to use this cmdlet to create a recovery storage group on current active node of CCR, do I need to enter the actual name for this active node, or I juts need to enter the cluster name?

  • How to create new storage group and mailbox database on exchange 2007 CCR

    Hi, Our Environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 CCR.
Now I want to create a new storage group with edb file and log files on the new drive.
    My plan is as below:
Once we have new drive ready on both active node and passive node,
1): Create new storage group with log files for this new storage group on other new drive from Active Node.
2): Create new mailbox database under this newly created storage group with the DB file on the new drive from active node.
    My question is:
1): Do I need to perform above steps from active node only? or Do I need to do it from both active node and passive node?
2): How many storage groups can we create on one Exchange 2007 Enterprise server, we already have 25 SGs in place.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. We can just create new storage group on the active node. And it’ll be replicated to the passive node.
We can use the following command in EMS to verify the new Storage Group is being replicated to the passive node:
    Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus "Second Storage Group" | Select SummaryCopyStatus,CCRTargetNode
    http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/08/how-to-create-new-storage-group-in-ccr.html
    2. For Exchange 2007 enterprise version, we can have up to 50 storage groups:
    http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2007/exchange2007_storage_groups.htm

    Hi
Its the problem with the installation file
Its better you download a fresh installation pack from the tech-net and start the upgrade and it will be successful probably the latest one below SP3 RU9
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36016
Remember to mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you
But that download is only the rollup 9 for the SP3.
The current system is SP2 With rollup 5, will i not have to Upgrade With the SP3 package first?
Before moving on to the rollups?

  • Query for exchange CCR cluster information

    Hey Scripting Guys,
I am looking for a way to determine which is the passive node of my Exchange 2007 CCR cluster. I use an imaging tool to backup the server, and I need to suspend replication, image the passive node, and then resume replication. I have all the replication starting and stopping working, but I would like to be able to check to make sure I am hitting the passive node. For now, I am assumeing that the second node is the passive one, but in the event it fails over, I don't want to miss a backup. Is there a powershell command that will pull this info for me?

    Hi,
How do i export the results to txt or CSV. I tried with the below command, but it returens me only one server, This below are the commands in used for the Clutsers servers

Is that the correct location where I can safely delete the old Exchange Server mailbox entry ? All of our Exchange Servers are 2010 SP2.
There is also the computer object named MAILBOX when I do the search in
Active Directory Users & Computers console.
So can anyone please clarify if this is the best and safest way to do without causing any email downtime ?
    /* Server Support Specialist */

    Hey there,
You need to ensure that you have the following backups in order to proceed with the decommissioning process:
    1. System State Backup of your Active directory
    2. Exchange Database Flat file Backup
    3. Run ExBPA Report and Export the Report for future reference.
    4. Go to Registry Editor and Export “My Computer” as Registry backup.
Yes you are at the right location to safely delete the old Exchange Server mailbox entry .
The best & cleanest way is to delete the whole server object. This wouldn't break your Exchange 2010 configuration. But make sure you don't delete the “Servers” folder itself.
Feel free to revert back for further queries
    Thanks

  • Exchange 2007 Active Sync Issue with 1 users mailbox

    Good Afternoon,
Server OS:  Small Business Server 2008
    Exchange:  2007 Standard - Update Rollup 13 SP3
    Mobile phone:  Blackberry Z10
We are in the process of decommissioning our Blackberry Enterprise Server, and down to one user.  I am able to setup Exchange on his new non BES server tied phone, but it will not sync any email, all Meetings, and only some contacts.  I have tried
adding this account to an Android phone with the same results.  I have numerous times went into EMC and delete the Mobile device, when re-adding the account, everything seems to point to his exchange account being the culprit.  I am getting the below
Active Sync error after adding his account.  I have Bing / Googled around, and nothing of substance I have found.  Thank you in advance!

    Hello,
Yes, it means the mailbox is corrupted. The most efficeint way is to rebuild the user's mailbox.

  • Iphone3g, Exchange 2007, pf firewall

Scenario: Iphone 3G, Exchange 2007 update 7-sp1, no front-end server, no ISA server. I have setup the firewall (packet-filter, openbsd) to allow 443 to our internal Exchange 2007 server. I have also setup a verisign certificate for the external public dns name being contacted by the iphone. I am able to access the owa link through the firewall with the iphone, but the Exchange mail cannot verify the account.

You need to install the cert on the phone.

  • Applying OS SP2 to existing Windows Srv 2008 SP1 w/ Exchange 2007 SP3 w/RU 5, before installing RU13

We are in the process of planning the deployment of Windows Server 2008 SP2, latest MS updates, and update rollup 13 for Exchange 2007 SP3.  Looking to migrate to Exchange 2013 & Exchange online in the future
Are there any issues that we need to be aware of before proceeding with the big updates.  Exchange is running fine, but we're not able to fully patch these servers unless SP2 is installed.  Thanks a bunch.
    Environment:
running Exchange 2007 SP3 with update rollup 5 for all of our email servers (CCR, HUB/CAS w/WNLB).  The OS installed for all of these are Windows 2008 SP1 (6.0.6001
Service Pack 1 Build 6001), latest MS critical updates are the only recent updates installed.
We also have Forefront Security for Exchange that I might remove.

    Hello,
Do you mean you want to upgrade Windows Server 2008 SP1 to Windows Server 2008 SP2, and then upgrade Exchange 2007 SP3 with rollup 5 to rollup 13? If so, the OS not being upgraded to a new version.
If you want to deploy Exchange 2007 SP3 with rollup13, you must install Windows Server 2008 SP2 on a computer that does not have Exchange installed, and then install Exchange 2007 SP3 with rollup 13, and move your mailboxes to new Exchange Server.
Based on your environment, you need to upgrade a clustered mailbox server, you must build a new failover cluster using Windows Server 2008 SP2 as the operating system for all nodes, and then migrate the data from the old cluster to new cluster.

  • How to upgrade Exchange 2007 from Sp1 to SP3 RU13

Hi everyone, I have a mail system Exchange 2007 SP1 CAS and HUB with 3 servers.
The mailboxes are on a Windows Server 2008 Failover Cluster.
Domain controllers are Windows Server 2003 SP2
I have to update the mail system with Service Pack 3 and RU13.
Does anyone can tell me the procedure? where I have to start by the CAS / HUB or cluster mailboxes?
How do I update the cluster of mailboxes, the resources on the active node and update it, or liability?
There's something I have to take intoaccount before upgrading?
I can upgrade directly to SP3? or I have to upgrade before SP2?  thank you very much

  • Uppgrading Exchange 2007 from sp1 to sp3 on small business server 2008 sp1

    Hello everyone
I know this topic has been discused many time in this froum. but i have to ask it again in my exact situation.
I have a realy unstable and unsafe server which i am planing to migrate all the apps and services to some virtual servers soon.
first migrating is Exchange. i have Exchange 2007 sp1 on my server sbs 2008. i have my DC,AD, dns, DHCP, File, etc on the same server as well . So that is way it is scary for me (as i am not really experienced) to even upgrade one service pack.
Now, i want to know if anyone did it before. What should i expect during upgrading or after that? so i can be ready for that?
which kind of backup can save me if somethings happens to my Exchange? is there any way to install the new Exchange 2007 and sp3 rollup 10 and then migrate all databases and mailboxes to that new server? if yes, how to do that?
    Thanks
    Nima

    Hi Nima,
Ok, I know your concern. Please make sure you have read the above KB I provided before installing SP3 for Exchange 2007. What's more, you need to make sure you right mouse click and run as admin to install it.
Moreover, here is a thread about migrating Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2013 for your reference.

Prepare the domains as required. You have to prep the forest first for SP3 before upgrading Exchange itself
