Exchange 2007 with Global catalog servers

exchange 2007 connects with 2 global catalog servers
when it connects GC server A, and A is down, there is user connection error at Outlook side.
any setting to allow Exchange 2007 immediately switching to GC server B without waiting?
Thanks a lot.

Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, please follow these steps: -
If you are running a version of Exchange Server that is earlier than Exchange Server 2010, use the following steps to force Outlook to identify and use the closest global
catalog server yourself.
Click
Start, and then click Run.
In the
Open box, type regedit.exe, and then click
OK.
Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider
On the
Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: Closest GC
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Value Data: 0x0000000
Quit
Registry Editor.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
Thanks and regards

  • When exchange Domain Controller or Global Catalog servers?

I have a few questions want to get your help.
1,which situation exchange would contact with the Domain Controller, and which situation  exchange would contact with the Global Catalog servers?what's the difference?
2,for the mailbox replication service, besides moving the mailbox ,and  DAD relevant operations, which situation mailbox replication service also contact with Dc?

    Hi,
    About Question 1:
For Exchange, GC is mainly for Address Book lookups. Exchange server access to the global catalog for address information.
About DC, every domain controller contains the following three directory partitions.
    1. Configuration: Contains the Configuration container, which stores configuration objects for the entire forest in cn=configuration,dc= forestRootDomain.
    2. Schema: Contains the Schema container, which stores class and attribute definitions for all existing and possible Active Directory objects in cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc= forestRootDomain.
    3. Domain: Contains a < domain > container, which stores users, computers, groups, and other objects for a specific domain.
For example, each Exchange Server object has the attribute Boolean messageTrackingEnabled. The Exchange server processes will turn on or off message tracking depending on the value of this attribute in the directory. This is an example of configuration data.
Configuration data is stored in the Configuration partition of Active Directory, and this partition is replicated to every DC in the Forest. Therefore Exchange can potentially go to any DC to access this information.
    About Question 2:
The Mailbox Replication Service is responsible for moving mailboxes, importing and exporting .pst files, and restoring disabled and soft-deleted mailboxes. All these options need to contact with DC.
    Best regards,

  • Exchange Management Shell Cannot Find Global Catalog Servers

    Hello,
I have a client with a single Exchange 2013 RU2 multi role server.  Exchange works fine with no issues.  However, when I open EMS and try to do anything (example get-mailbox) it returns the following error.  It was working up until about a
    week ago.
"Could not find any available Global Catalog in forest domain.com"
I haven't tried rebooting the server yet because Exchange is running fine, it's just PowerShell is jacked up.  I have even tried Remote PowerShell from another server and same results.  Has anyone ever seen this?
    Thanks,
    John

can you check what  your nslookup returns you... are you able to connect to your DNS without any error.
the above error is generally towards network connectivity issues.
guess you have two lan cards on exchange. what is the DNS on both lan cards. i guess should b same.
MARK AS USEFUL/ANSWER IF IT DID

  • Mail.app and Exchange 2007 with Rollup 3 ... anyone get it to work?

Spent way too much time on this...
After finding our our Exchange 2007 server didn't have the legacy components installed to ensure WebDav would work, we can now connect to our Exchange 2007 mail server from Microsoft Entourage for all Windows Active Directory accounts.
For Apple Mail however, this is not the case. Opening mail, the account information does default in accurately (email, userID, exchange 2007 server) when I enter a users password, it says that it is unable to connect to mail server user/password failed.
If I manually create the account, the same thing occurs, a pop-up appears prompting for a password, which I enter and it comes back saying it isn't valid.
The password is valid because on the same Mac I open up Entourage and log in.
Keychain is NOT used and none of the passwords are held because of the headaches this causes.
Looking for ideas, thinking this is more of an Apple Mail.app bug not working with Exchange than a Microsoft issue.

Just want to add to this...it was resolved the Advanced tab is very important on mail.app.
The Advance tab authentication must match what the Exchange server/Active Directory is using.
For us NTLM is what we need to use.
Also we found that one exchange server had a bad installation while another had no problem connecting via mail.app.
Thus the installation is going to be looked at.

    Hello,
I am planning to upgrade to AD windows 2012 R2 from 2008 in 2003 on funtional level for domain and forrest, my question is, is 2007 exchange (Version build: 08.03.0245.001) supported on 2012 R2 domain environment on 2008 funtional level?
I am planning to upgrade exchange later in december to exchange 2013 but not now.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
At present, there is no official article to verify whether exchange 2007 is supported on windows server 2012 R2 domain.
But I agree with damird's suggestion.
And you don't install exchange 2007 on windows server 2012 r2.

  • Exchange 2007 with pop3 downloader to office 365 migration

    Hi,
i would like to migrate my exchange server (exchange 2007) to office 365,
presently i am downloading mails from a online mail service to exchange 2007 through a pop3 downloader  and i am distributing this mails locally ( around 20 mail box)
how do i migrate my exchange mails to office 365, is there any automated way to do the same
    requesting your valuable suggestions
    Regards
    Ratheesh
    Ratheesh

    Hi,
The partially complete in the migration report means there are some items have been skipped due to some reasons. If you check the skipped items, you will see the value is not 0 like other users with status as complete. Usually, this value is not high(1 or
2 in most circumstances) which means only limited items have been skipped.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Replacing Exchange 2007 with another server with new server name

I am working with a client to move Exchange from the server it is on now to another server. This will be new hardware and new name. The current server Exchange is on will still exist by I want to move Exchange completely off of that server.
    Current Network Setup:
Server 1: 1 SBS 2003 server is Domain Controller, Runs AD, DNS, DHCP, File Sharing, SharePoint 2003 and Remote Desktop
Server 2: Server 2008 running Exchange 2007, Backup Domain Controller, File Sharing, SharePoint 2007, Terminal Services.
    Current Plan:
Introduce Server 3 to run just Exchange 2007. I would like to completely over a short period of time move exchange from Server 2 to Server 3. I have searched over the internet and found several articles but still have a few questions. There are roughly 75
mailboxes with 50 actual users. Some users are using Outlook 2003 that came with the SBS 2003 and others are using Later versions of office. Server 3 will be a Server 2008 R2 system.
    1. What is the best method to perform this transfer. I found article TechNet
Article that explains with 2 remote offices how to do this but not sure if the same will apply.
    2. Since I am not immediately decommissioning Server 2 how can I safely remove all the roles and add them to Server 3?
    3. For the end user impact. Will the change make Outlook automatically pickup the new server name or will each user need to reconfigure their outlook profiles?
    4. I will be moving OWA since there are several Remote and Terminal Service users that use OWA for email. I would like to keep the same certificate and domain name setup if possible.

    Hi,
According to your description, I recommend you install another exchange 2007 on server 3, the exchange server role as the same as server 2.
And then, transfer all mailboxes and configurations(OWA,DNS..) from server 2 to server 3.
Finally, decommission the server 2 .
    Thanks.

  • Best Migration Method for Exchange 2007 with multiple accepted domains

We are trying to determine which method would be best for us as we migrate to O365.  Scenario as follows:
    1) Multiple accepted domains (each in their own OU in AD); example: domainA.com, domainB.com
    2) Exchange is 2007; clients will be upgrading the Outlook 2013
    3) Would like to be able to sync mailboxes starting anytime but be able to cut over a domain at a time.
Tested so far with staged migration but it appears that with this, there is a change in the TargetAddress sending all mail to the O365.  Even changing MXs didn't redirect the message as it reaches the Exchange box and immediately goes to O365.
We haven't tried the cutover as we're only able to test with the production box and if that somehow cutover the entire box, we'd be .. well, it wouldn't be good.
Anyone had any experience so that our #3 point would be doable, that would be great.
    Thx
    George

    Hi George,
According to your description, I understand that the issue is related to Exchange migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange Online for Office 365. This forum focuses on some general discussion about Office 365 ProPlus which
is the version of Office that comes with many Office 365 plans. Therefore, I suggest we can post the issue in Microsoft Exchange Online (Office 365) forum for more professional suggestions:

  • IOS 4.1 + 4.2.1 Exchange 2007 (with SP2) Calendar Sync Issues

I had noticed several issues with my calendar and it's (in)ability to sync correctly with my company Exchange Server (2007 SP2) (with OWA support and ActiveSync on, running and verified using https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com)
    OBSERVATIONS/FAULTS
    1) Over a period of time, I noticed appointments accepted from others or created myself on Webmail/Entourage 2008/Outlook 2010 in VMWare on the same Exchange server were not appearing on the iPhone
    2) Invites accepted on iPhone did appear in webmail + clients
    3) After iOS 4.2.1 update from iOS 4.1 (iPhone 4 is only 1 month old), issues got worse
    4) Did a complete restore to iOS 4.1 and clean install. Exchange would connect 100% of the time, Mail and Contacts sync without fault. Calendar would not sync at all. At the time of account reconnection, there were 4 invites unanswered in my Mail Inbox which immediately got picked up by the iPhone, but all existing invites/appointments did not appear
    5) Repeated Step 4, but going back to iOS 4.2.1 (I'm a sucker for the latest software for my sins, but don't believe this is wholly related).
    FIX
How I "fixed" this (and by fixed I mean I can get all my appointments now)
    1) Under Settings > Mail, etc.
    2) Under Calendars (bottom of settings window), switched off Time Zone Support (note, Exchange server is in the same time zone as I am in). Also set Sync option to sync all, not just 2 weeks (and yes I did have invites newer than 2 weeks in my Exchange calendar)
    3) Voila! It picked the invites up.
    4) I've since set the calendar to sync only 1 month back as I don't need all the old invites on my iPhone
    QUESTIONS
Do the Apple Support Team have any ideas why this would happen and why this fix seemed to work for me?
If anyone else is suffering this, maybe try the above and see if it helps, I'd be interested to know as this might help IT departments everywhere

I was so glad to get multiple Exchange account support with iOS 4. I have been synching with my work account (calendar, mail) and with my Google accounts (calendar, mail, contacts). After upgrading to iOS 4.1 three days ago, my Google accounts appear to be working fine but my work account refuses to connect to the Exchange server for calendar or mail.
My company forced a passcode when I originally added the account. For troubleshooting I removed the account and recreated it. The account verifies but never requires that I have a passcode. I then removed all of my Exchange accounts, restarted my phone and recreated my company Exchange account. Again, verifies without requiring a passcode, and neither my calendar nor my mail will connect - zero events, zero emails. My mail even proudly says it updated and shows the current time/date stamp - but nothing. When I upgraded to 4.02, I had to set up a passcode. I am highly suspicious that because 4.1 is not synching properly because it is not handshaking correctly regarding the security on the Exchange Server ... that is my guess. And I echo, IT NEEDS FIXED! I am screwed not being able to get my emails and calendar events on-the-fly.

  • Anyone using Exchange 2007 with Good Technology to get push on iPhone

Our firm is going to go with Good to send exchange information to the iphone. Wondering if anyone has that setup and has something to share about how it works and what the limitations are compared to linking directly to Exchange?

I am populating $users by importing a list of user names from a csv file i have
    $users = Import-Csv .\users.csv
the user names are listed in an excel document, they are in the form of "firstname lastname"
so I end up with a variable with several names like:
    $users
    username
    Joe Smith
    Bob Jones
    Bill Morden
    etc.
So what I essentially do is loop through this custom object and get the cas-mailbox status with the users name.

  • Java Card 3 : Exchange Data with Other Web Servers

    Hi everyone,
I hope to be happy and healthy.
I want to implement our internet voting protocol with jc3 connected edition. I mean by using NetBeans IDE (JC3 web project). what i need is that use jc3 as web service client but unfortunately jc3 does not support web service ( i test its APIs, but some people say it support restful web service, again i think it does not support restful APIs, too.
I need to have send and receive data over http. for example i want jc3 send a string value to a definite web server( electoral web application) and get response, over http. I have implemented my protocol by socketconnection but i need, send and receive done over http protocol. I use httpconnection ( javax.microedition.io.httpconnection) but i can not do that. I will be grateful if anyone can help me.
Thanks in advance for your help

This may be difficult to do in the real world. I am not aware of any JC3 connected edition hardware commercially available.
Is the intent that each voter will have a smart card that they can use to securely vote? It may be easier to have a host application on the voters computer that uses the smart card as a security token for signing and encrypting and then passing this encrypted data to the voting system with a HTTP connection.

  • Active Sync not Working - Exchange 2013 with Exchange 2007

    Hi
Recently we introduced Exchange 2013 servers to our existing Exchange 2007 organization. The servers are just configured with default self-signed certificate and URLs are pointing to server FQDNs.
Everything is at default as far as configuration is concerned in Exchange 2013.
After just introducing the Exchange 2013 CAS servers was checking the ActiveSync functionality using a new mailbox created on Exchange 2013. We have not yet published our Exchange 2013 servers to
Internet (before even doing that, want to ensure ActiveSync is working). We're connecting using our Private network and trying to make a connection to CAS FQDN. Checked a iOS7 (iPad) and a Windows Phone device, both of them configure successfully (with the
certificate warning, which is obvious) but when it comes to synchronizing the contents they fail saying "Cannot Get Mail. Connection to Server Failed"
Checked the IIS Logs on CAS server and found that the device makes a successful connection - as is indicated by successful configuration but thereafter nothing happnes on the device and no error
logged in Event Viewer as well. Could it be that the mailbox server is denying the connection....how to check. How to go ahead with the troubleshooting.
Everything else expect ActiveSync is working perfectly. Tries accessing the ActiveSync VD using the link
HTTPS://Server_FQDN/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, this pops-up a window asking for credentials – which is normal behavior indicating ActiveSync virtual directory is good.

    Hey Guys
Just to update here my initial testing revieled that if I run Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity by not specifying the -URL parameter like this:
    Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity -MailboxCredential (get-credential User1) |FL
the command fails for an obvious reason as shown in the result. The command is getting the mailbox server name in the ActiveSync URL returned automatically:
    ClientAccessServer
    : SITE-MBX-02.ABC.COM
    Scenario
    : Options
    ScenarioDescription
: Issue an HTTP OPTIONS command to retrieve the Exchange ActiveSync protocol version.
    PerformanceCounterName
    : DirectPush Latency
    Result
    : Failure
    Error
: The OPTIONS command returned HTTP 200, but the Exchange ActiveSync header
(MS-Server-ActiveSync) wasn't returned. The request likely did not reach a
    Client Access
    server, either because
    - A proxy server intervened (check the headers below for any that may have been
    returned by a proxy)
-The virtual directory could not be reached:
    https://SITE-MBX-02.ABC.COM/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
                         - The virtual directory does not point to a Client Access server:
    https://SITE-MBX-02.ABC.COM/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
If however, I manually provide the -URL parameter value with FQDN of CAS server:
    Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity -URL
    https://SITE-CAS-02.ABC.COM/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    -MailboxCredential (get-credential User1) |FL
    it succeeds.
We have our CAS and Mailbox servers installed on separate systems - no colocation.
This is strange and makes me curious to find out, where does the command without -URL parameter is getting the ActiveSync URL that has mailbox server in it. I checked that the new Exchange 2013 CAS servers have InternalURL parameteres populated with their
own FQDNs and the ExternalURL is empty for now.
Need help in drilling down this further.
    Thanks

I have a HA Exchange 2007 Environment of 4 servers - two IS servers (primary/standby) and two Hub Transport servers (load balanced).  When I receive an e-mail from an e-mail address with a quote in the name, such as

That transaction looks like you're sending to a non-Exchange server that is rejecting the quote character because that banner does not look like an Exchange response.  If so, that's a problem with that server, not yours.

Does anyone know how to get apple mail in Lion 10.7.2 to connect with Exchange 2007?  It worked perfectly with Snow Leopard... upgraded to lion and it won't work.  We use Exchange 2007 with SP 3 and Rollup 4.  Won't connect... and I can't get Apple to give me any direction.

We finally got it to work today.  We had to call and pay for the microsoft support service, but the issue was on the server end.  We had to go into the iis manager... went to sites... when to default website...and changed the SSL settings for Auto Discover, EWS Exadmin, echange, exchweb, owa... and the rest..
Change the settings to ignore client certificates.
Problem solved. Can finally send and receive.
